Preparation and responsive performance study of AuNPs/RGO-MoO2/GCE composite modified electrodes based on its high sensitivity to acetaminophen and dopamine

Jiangdong Gu,Qiufeng An,Jiamin Chen,Yafei He,Wenhuan Huang

To detect acetaminophen (AMP) and dopamine (DA) effectively and rapidly, the Au nanoparticles (AuNPs) were deposited on the surface of glassy carbon electrode (GCE) modified with Molybdenum dioxide-doped Reduced graphene oxide (RGO-MoO 2 ) nanosheets to form AuNPs/RGO-MoO 2 /GCE composite modified electrode (electrochemical sensor) was prepared The modified electrode was studied regarding its composition, structure and the effect of process parameters such as the electrochemical response characteristics of AMP and DA, the pH value of the buffer, the scan rate, and the sensitivity of both simultaneous detections. The results show that the synergy between AuNPs and RGO-MoO 2 nanomaterials can promote the electrochemical reaction of AMP and DA, and the oxidation peak potential differences of the two are greater than 180 mV. The linear ranges of the modified electrode are 0.05–320 μ mol/L for AMP and 0.6–260 μ mol/L for DA, and the detection limits are 7.2 nmol/L and 13 nmol/L (S/N = 3), respectively. The prepared AuNPs/MoO 2 -RGO/GCE modified electrode has a wider linear range, lower detection limit, excellent reproducibility, stability and selectivity.

Integrated 3D self-supported Ni decorated MoO2 nanowires as highly efficient electrocatalysts for ultra-highly stable and large-current-density hydrogen evolution

Bowen Ren,Dongqi Li,Qiuyan Jin,Hao Cui,Chengxin Wang

The design and development of non-noble metal electrocatalysts for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) is highly desirable, but still cannot satisfy actual requirements in terms of superior activity, ultrahigh stability and ability to carry large current densities. In this study, Ni nanoparticles anchored onto MoO2 nanowires have been synthesized on carbon cloth via in situ exsolution under a reducing atmosphere. Impressively, the obtained Ni–MoO2-450 NWs/CC exhibits an excellent platinum-like HER activity with a nearly zero onset overpotential and a small Tafel slope of ∼30 mV dec−1, which implies that the fast recombination step is rate-limiting. Surprisingly, our sample gives an unprecedented stable catalytic activity over 320 hours in 1 M KOH, and can retain its activity at large current densities, even in the order of 1000 mA cm−2, which is far better than other reported catalysts. Such an outstanding performance should be mainly attributed to the integrated 3D self-supported nanocatalyst, the high electronic conductivity framework and the synergistic coupling effect between Ni and MoO2 interfaces. This work may thus provide an insight into the design and fabrication of alternative catalysts to Pt-based catalysts for the HER.

In-situ growth of MoO2/MoS2 microspheres on reduced graphene oxide with enhanced dielectric polarization and impedance matching for boosting electromagnetic wave absorption

Yiman Lu,Xiaoning Zhao,Ya Lin,Zhongqiang Wang,Ye Tao,Haiyang Xu,Yichun Liu

Dielectric materials are promising candidates for electromagnetic wave (EMW) absorption due to the significant contribution of dielectric loss to EM energy dissipation. However, dielectric materials with single component usually exhibit limited EMW absorption performance because of their impedance mismatching and insufficient EMW attenuation capability. Reasonable designs of structure and composition are required to improve their EMW absorption performance. Herein, the rGO/MoO 2 /MoS 2 (RMM) composite with MoO 2 /MoS 2 heterogeneous microspheres grown in situ on reduced graphene oxide (rGO) is prepared through intermolecular hydrogen bonding and thermal reduction. The introduction of MoO 2 /MoS 2 microspheres not only endows the composite with abundant mesopores and large specific surface area, but also facilitates the formation of heterogeneous interfaces and structural defects. By manipulating the relative component content of MoO 2 and MoS 2 , RMM achieves excellent EMW absorption. At a relatively thin thickness of 1.70 mm, the reflection loss (RL) and effective absorption bandwidth of the composite reach −74.81 dB and 4.37 GHz. Correspondingly, the specific RL (RL/t) of the composite comes to −440.06 dB/cm, which is at the forefront among other typical dielectric microwave absorbers. This work provides a universal strategy to develop high-performance dielectric-type EMW absorption materials.

Hydroxyl Radical Modulation on MoNi3/MoO2+x Heterostructure via Synergistic Vacancy and Interfacial Engineering for Highly Selective Imine Synthesis Coupled with Hydrogen Evolution

Zhian Chen,Yi Shu,Xia Gui,Nengcong Yang,Yunfei Li,Saidi Qi,Song Sun,Haiqun Cao,Sheng Ye,Chunyan Zhang

The production of high-value chemicals from renewable biomass carbon resources represents a critical pathway toward sustainable development. However, this process is often constrained by harsh reaction conditions and low selectivity. Herein, we design an oxygen vacancy (OV)-rich MoNi3/MoO2+x heterostructure catalyst, which exhibited superior performance in a neutral phosphate buffer (pH = 7), with an anodic reaction selectivity of 95% for the biomass derived benzylamine oxidation to N-benzylidene benzylamine and a low overpotential of 64 mV at 10 mA cm–2 for cathode H2 evolution. The high selectivity was achieved by tuning •OH coverage through the precise construction of a unique interface between OV-rich amorphous MoO2+x and metallic MoNi3. Moreover, the dual electrode system operated stably for 150 h at 10 mA cm–2 under an applied voltage of only 1.53 V. This work provides an effective approach for the green production of high-value imines and H2 by synergistic vacancy and interfacial engineering.

Interfacial engineering regulated by CeOx to boost efficiently alkaline overall water splitting and acidic hydrogen evolution reaction

Jian Chen,Zhen Hu,Yang Ou,Qinghua Zhang,Xiaopeng Qi,Lin Gu,Tongxiang Liang

Development of a low-cost and durable bifunctional electrocatalyst with high catalytic activity by hybridizing rare earth metal and non-noble metal is of utmost significance. Herein, a bifunctional electrocatalyst consisting of MoO 2 and CeO x heterostructure is synthesized via interfacial engineering. Particularly, due to its unique hetero-interface with abundant oxygen vacancies, the MoO 2 -CeO x /NF is able to exhibit outstanding hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) performance with an overpotential of 26 mV at 10 mA cm −2 , and a preferable oxygen evolution reaction (OER) overpotential of 272 mV at 100 mA cm −2 in 1 M KOH. The recorded HER and OER overpotentials of MoO 2 -CeO x /NF are clearly smaller than those of Pt/C (HER overpotential of 27 mV) and RuO 2 (OER overpotential of 393 mV) at the same current density. More importantly, MoO 2 -CeO x /NF can also exhibit good HER activity with an overpotential of 50 mV at 10 mA cm −2 in acidic media. Thus, it is expected that this work can offer a new approach in the realization of high-catalytic alkaline overall water splitting and acidic HER performance through the rational design of rare-earth metal and non-noble metal heterostructure.

Dual-Responsive Antibacterial Hydrogel Patch for Chronic-Infected Wound Healing

Jianjun Guo,Liang Yao,Xianqing Wang,Rijian Song,Bo Yang,Daochao Jin,Jianjun Guo,Guohua Wu

Bacterial infections in chronic wounds, such as bedsores and diabetic ulcers, present significant healthcare challenges. Excessive antibiotic use leads to drug resistance and lacks precision for targeted wound treatment. Our study introduces an innovative solution: a near-infrared (NIR) and pH dual-responsive hydrogel patch incorporating regenerated silk fibroin (RSF) and molybdenum dioxide (MoO2) nanoparticles (NPs), offering enhanced mechanical properties, precise drug release, and superior antibacterial efficacy. The dual-responsive hydrogel patch allows for precise control over antibiotic release triggered by NIR light and pH fluctuations, enabling tailored treatment for infected wounds. First, the pH-responsive characteristic matches the alkaline environment of the infected wound, ensuring on-demand antibiotic release. Second, NIR exposure accelerates antibiotic release, enhancing wound healing and providing additional antibacterial effects. Additionally, the patch further blocks bacterial infection, promotes wound repair, and degrades in sync with the healing process, further bolstering the efficacy against wound infections.

Electrospun polyacrylonitrile-metal-organic framework derived N-doped porous carbon nanofibers loaded with MoS2/MoO2 heteronanorods for simultaneous detection of dopamine and uric acid in serum

Xu Li,Zhang Jinmi,Hu Maoyuan,Li Jianlong,Li Sheng,Xiong Xiaoli

As crucial biomarkers, the rapid and sensitive detection of dopamine (DA) and uric acid (UA) is essential for disease prevention and diagnosis. In this study, MoS 2 /MoO 2 heteronanorod modified N-doped porous carbon nanofiber (N-PCNFs@MoS 2 /MoO 2 ) sensing electrodes for the simultaneous detection of DA and UA were fabricated by electrostatic spinning coupled with vulcanization reaction. The carbonization treatment of the ZIF-8/PAN precursor endows material with hierarchical pores and a highly conductive network, which significantly increases the specific surface area and active sites and provides a fast electron transport channel for electrochemical reactions. Moreover, the synergistic effect of MoS 2 /MoO 2 optimizes the ion transport pathway and further enhances the electrocatalytic performance. Experimental results show that the electrode exhibites excellent performance for the simultaneous detection of DA and UA. The linear range for DA detection is 0.5–35 µM with a limit of detection (LOD) of 0.038 µM (S/ N  = 3), while UA shows a two-segment linear response with linear ranges of 1–20 µM and 20–110 µM, respectively, and a LOD of 0.245 µM (S/ N  = 3). This electrode is capable of realizing the simultaneous detection of DA and UA in human serum, showing a broad application prospect in the field of biosensing. Section Graphical

Construction of a N−Mo−O bond bridged MoO2/Mo-doped g-C3N4 Schottky heterojunction composite with enhanced interfacial compatibility for efficient photocatalytic degradation of tetracycline

Meifei Chen,Xiunan Cai,Qing Yang,Wenqin Lu,Zuqiang Huang,Tao Gan,Huayu Hu,Yanjuan Zhang

To improve the photocatalytic performance of g-C 3 N 4 (CN), mechanical activation (MA) treatment of precursor followed by calcination was developed to construct a N−Mo−O bond bridged MoO 2 /Mo-doped CN (MA-MoO 2 /Mo-CN) Schottky heterojunction composite, which was used as a visible light-driven photocatalyst for degrading tetracycline (TC). The as-prepared MA-MoO 2 /Mo-CN with strong interfacial interaction showed excellent photocatalytic performance and structural stability, with 92.3% of TC degradation efficiency within 90 min and maintaining over 90% of degradation efficiency after five consecutive cycles. The enhanced photocatalytic performance can be ascribed to that MA treatment induced the improvement of surface area and the formation of N vacancies and N−Mo−O bonds, which served as a bridge to connect Mo-CN and MoO 2 for constructing a Schottky barrier. These provided more reactive sites and effectively enhanced migration efficiency of interface electrons, separation efficiency of photogenerated carriers, and light absorption capacity. In addition, the mechanism of photocatalytic degradation of TC and its possible degradation pathway were investigated. This research provides an environmentally friendly and feasible method for producing highly active precious metal-free photocatalysts with excellent migration and separation efficiency of photoexcited charge carriers.

Industrially Promising Nanowire Heterostructure Catalyst for Enhancing Overall Water Splitting at Large Current Density

Guangfu Qian,Jinli Chen,Lin Luo,Tianqi Yu,Yamei Wang,Wenjie Jiang,Qinglian Xu,Shouquan Feng,Shibin Yin

Developing a highly effective and durable bifunctional non-noble catalyst is necessary for water electrolysis. In this work, we synthesize the N-doped carbon-coated Ni–MoO2 nanowire heterostructure catalyst anchored on nickel foam for boosting the hydrogen and oxygen evolution reaction (HER and OER). Electrochemical results indicate that it exhibits low overpotentials for HER (50 and 304 mV) and OER (240 and 400 mV) at ±10 and ±2000 mA cm–2. Furthermore, it can keep for 340 h under a multicurrent-process condition (10–1500 mA cm–2) as a cathode and anode without obvious attenuation. The outstanding performance could be ascribed to the heterostructure existing in Ni and MoO2, N-doped-carbon coating structure, and nanowire architecture anchored on nickel foam. This work could provide an industrially promising, cheap, and green method for hydrogen production.

Stacking of Tailored Chalcogenide Nanosheets around MoO2-C Conductive Stakes Modulated by a Hybrid POM⊂MOF Precursor Template: Composite Conversion–Insertion Cathodes for Rechargeable Mg–Li Dual-Salt Batteries

Chenglong Wu,Jiulin Hu,Jing Tian,Fulu Chu,Zhenguo Yao,Yongjian Zheng,Dongguang Yin,Chilin Li

Mg anode has pronounced advantages in terms of high volumetric capacity, resource abundance, and dendrite-free electrochemical plating, which make rechargeable Mg-based batteries stand out as a representative next-generation energy storage system utilized in the field of large-scale stationary electric grid. However, sluggish Mg2+ diffusion in cathode lattices and facile passivation on the Mg anode hinder the commercialization of Mg batteries. Exploring a highly electroactive cathode prototype with hierarchical nanostructure and compatible electrolyte system with the capability of activating both an anode and a cathode is still a challenge. Here, we propose a POM⊂MOF (NENU-5) core–shell architecture as a hybrid precursor template to achieve the stacking of tailored chalcogenide nanosheets around MoO2-C conductive stakes, which can be employed as conversion–insertion cathodes (Cu1.96S-MoS2-MoO2 and Cu2Se-MoO2) for Mg–Li dual-salt batteries. Li-salt modulation further activates the capacity and rate performance at the cathode side by preferential Li-driven displacement reaction in Cu+ extrusible lattices. The heterogeneous conductive network and conformal dual-doped carbon coating enable a reversible capacity as high as 200 mAh/g with a coulombic efficiency close to 100%. The composite cathode can endure a long-term cycling up to 400 cycles and a high current density up to 2 A/g. The diversity of MOF-based materials infused by functional molecules or clusters would enrich the nanoengineering of electrodes to meet the performance demand for future multivalent batteries.

Donor–Acceptor Couples of Metal and Metal Oxides with Enriched Ni3+ Active Sites for Oxygen Evolution

Shan Ni,Hongnan Qu,Huifang Xing,Zihao Xu,Xiangyang Zhu,Menglei Yuan,Li Wang,Jiemiao Yu,Yanqing Li,Liangrong Yang,Huizhou Liu

Exploiting precious-metal-free and high-activity oxygen evolution reaction (OER) electrocatalysts has been in great demands toward many energy storage and conversion processes, for example, carbon dioxide reduction, metal–air batteries, and water splitting. In this study, the simple solid-state method is employed for coupling Ni (electron donors) with lower-Fermi-level MoO2 or WOx (electron acceptors) into donor–acceptor ensembles with well-designed interfaces as robust electrocatalysts for OER. The resulting Ni/MoO2 and Ni/WOx electrocatalysts exhibit smaller overpotentials of 287 and 333 mV at 10 mA cm–2 as well as smaller Tafel slopes of 51 and 65 mV/dec, respectively, with respect to the single Ni, MoO2, WOx, and even the benchmark RuO2 in 1 M KOH. Specially, on account of a higher Fermi level of Ni in comparison with MoO2 and WOx, their strong electronic interaction results in directional interfacial electron transfer and increases the hole density over Ni, dramatically enriching the population of high-valence Ni3+ active sites and decreasing the Fermi level of Ni. The existence of Ni3+ can strengthen the chemisorption of OH–, and the downshift of the Ni Fermi level can significantly expedite migration of electrons toward the surface of catalysts during OER, thus synergistically boosting the OER catalytic performance. Furthermore, the inner Ni/MoO2 and Ni/WOx heterostructures and the electrochemically induced surface layers of oxides/hydroxides collectively boost the OER kinetics. This study highlights the importance of designing highly efficient OER electrocatalysts with high-valence active species (Ni3+) and better matched energy levels induced by the work function difference through interfacial engineering.

Nitrogen moieties -dominated Co–N-doped nanoparticle-modified cathodes in heterogeneous-electro-Fenton-like system for catalytic decontamination of EDTA-Ni(II)

Huajing Zhou,Jun Luo,Yuancai Chen

Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) could form stable complexes with toxic metals such as nickel due to its strong chelation. In this study, with the same doping level of Co and N, MoO 2 and ZIF-67 were used as precursors to prepare MoO 2 @Co/N and FeC@Co/N electrocatalysts for the modified graphite felt cathodes in heterogeneous-electro-Fenton-like reaction (HEFL) system. The X-ray diffraction and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy results indicated that both of the catalysts are dominated with pyridinic N (2.42% and 2.82%) upon co-doping Co/N, and FeC@Co/N exhibited an obviously higher additional sp -hybridized nitrogen ( sp -N) peak. The co-doping of Co/N induced the lattice modifications to produce more lattice defects, where pyridinic N and sp -N, related with the active sites (C–N, Co-Nx), were formed at near-ring defects along sheet edges through the nitrogen replacement of C C groups. FeC@Co/N demonstrated superior oxygen reduction reaction catalytic activity in terms of Cyclic Voltammetry and Rotating Ring-disk Electrode, and exhibited the remarkably higher current density (30 mA) and lower onset potential (−0.208 V) in Linear Sweep Voltammetry analysis. In the FeC@Co/N/CF modified HEFL system, despite the generated H 2 O 2 concentrations (62.5 mg L −1 ) is not very high, the reducing reaction of ≡Fe(III)/Co(III)–OH could get the electron directly from the cathode, which would greatly reduce the consumption of H 2 O 2, high utilization efficiency of H 2 O 2 (η: 87.63%) could greatly improve the EDTA-Ni removal (97.5%) and TOC (92.6%). This work demonstrates the feasibility of utilizing FeC@Co/N/CF as a cathode for breaking metal-complex in HEFL process.
