The Al-doped Ni 2 P/Al-SBA-15 catalyst with high hydrodeoxygenation (HDO) activity was synthesized by temperature programmed reduction at a relatively low reduction temperature of 400 °C. The as-prepared catalyst was characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), H 2 temperature-programmed reduction (H 2 -TPR), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), transmission electron microscope (TEM), NH 3 temperature programmed desorption (NH 3 -TPD), N 2 adsorption–desorption and CO uptake. The effect of Al on benzofuran (BF) HDO performance was investigated. The result indicates that the incorporation of Al into the SBA-15 support can promote the formation of much uniform, smaller, highly dispersed Ni 2 P particles on the catalyst. The Al also contributes to suppress the enrichment of P and promote more exposed Ni sites on the surface. In addition, the incorporation of Al can enhance the acid strength. The total deoxygenated product yield over Ni 2 P/Al-SBA-15 reached 90.3%, which is an increase of 19.4%, when compared with that found for Ni 2 P/SBA-15 (70.9%).

Monodispersed mesoporous SBA-15 silica was synthesized by adding n -decane to conventional synthesis recipe. Pd catalysts for 2-alkyl-anthraquinone hydrogenation were then prepared on the as-synthesized SBA-15 and characterized by scanning and transmission electron micrographs, X-ray diffraction, XPS spectroscopy and N 2 adsorption-desorption. At the molar ratio of n -decane to P123 (C10/P123) ranging between 120 and 240, monodispersed SBA-15, together with the shortened length of pore channels, expanded size of mesopores and decreased proportion of micropores could be obtained. The Pd catalyst on SBA-15 synthesized with 240 in C10/P123 exhibited the superior catalytic performance. The initial hydrogenation rate of 2-ethyl-, tert-butyl- and amyl-anthraquinone increases by approximately 300%, 183% and 150% compared with that on SBA-15 synthesized using a recipe without n -decane, with the selectivity to active anthraquinone of >99%.

Upgrading bio-ethanol into high value chemicals is an important issue in biomass conversion, and conversion of ethanol into butadiene is one of the most feasible methods. Here Zr-incorporating mesoporous SBA-15 (Zr–SBA-15) materials with different Si/Zr ratios were successfully synthesized by a one-pot method and were employed as catalysts for the conversion of the ethanol (EtOH)–acetaldehyde (AcH) mixture to butadiene. The textural structure and acidity of Zr–SBA-15 were investigated by using XRD, N2 adsorption, TEM, FT-IR, UV-vis, XPS, NH3-TPD and Py-IR, and the results of these characterizations indicated the mesoporosity of Zr–SBA-15 and confirmed the incorporation of Zr into the framework. Zr–O–Si bonds were formed by the incorporation and exhibited Lewis acidity predominantly. The influence of the Si/Zr ratio and reaction conditions (temperature, EtOH/AcH ratio and WHSV) showed that a suitable Si/Zr ratio was needed to balance the butadiene selectivity, by-product selectivity and total conversion. Amongst the prepared catalysts, Zr–SBA-15-20 achieved the best butadiene selectivity of 74.0% at a relatively low temperature (275 °C). The good catalytic performance could be attributed to the homogeneous dispersion of Zr species and Zr–O–Si bond generated by Zr incorporation. Furthermore, EtOH-TPD and AcH-TPD experiments proved the essential role of acetaldehyde addition and the well-accepted reaction pathway.

Abstract A composite material (FeSIL) prepared by FeCl 3 -imidazolium ionic liquid grafted on SBA-15 exhibited effective catalytic activity for solvent-free oxidation of styrene into benzaldehyde with high selectivity using H 2 O 2 oxidant and it presented easy recovery and reusability. In situ DRIFTS spectra for styrene and H 2 O 2 adsorption showed that an intermediate Fe 3+ –π surface complex on the catalyst surface was responsible for the activation of styrene and its reaction with H 2 O 2 molecules on the surface or in the bulk phase. Graphic Abstract Iron-chloride immobilized ionic liquid (FeSIL) was prepared by N -methylimidazole reacting with chloropropylsilane grafted on SBA-15 and coordinating of FeCl 3 to the imidazolium on the surface. The higher catalytic activity of the catalyst for effective oxidation of styrene under solvent-free condition were achieved The catalyst can be easily recovered and effectively reused without a significant loss in its activity.

In this work, HZSM-5, Al-SBA-15 and Al-SBA-15/HZSM-5 were adopted as supporting materials for the nickel-based catalysts used in hydrodeoxygenation process. Incipient wetness impregnation method was employed to load nickel species onto these materials. The physicochemical characterization was carried out using advanced instruments. The effect of composition of nickel-based catalysts on hydrodeoxygenation (HDO) reaction was studied. Support materials of nickel-based catalyst have a significantly impact on HDO activity. The highest selectivity (67.9%) of propyl-cyclohexane was obtained over nickel based Al-SBA-15/HZSM-5 catalyst, and nearly all the eugenol was completely hydrodeoxygenated after reaction. The impact of light fractions existed in bio-oil on phenols upgrading process was investigated. The conversion of eugenol mixed with light fractions reached nearly 100% for all the reactions. Eugenol mixed with light fractions as reactant could reduce ring break reaction during hydrodeoxygenation process. The selectivity of alkanes remained nearly unchanged after adding ethylene glycol into the reactant. However, the selectivity of propyl-cyclohexane was significantly decreased by mixing furfural or acetic acid with eugenol as reactant.

Formylglycine-generating enzymes can selectively recognize and oxidize cysteine residues within the sulfatase sub motif at the terminus of proteins to form aldehyde-bearing formylglycine (FGly) residues, and are normally used in protein labeling. In this study, an aldehyde tag was introduced to proteins using formylglycine-generating enzymes encoded by a reconstructed set of the pET28a plasmid system for enzyme immobilization. The haloacid dehalogenase ST2570 fromSulfolobus tokodaiiwas used as a model enzyme. The C-terminal aldehyde-tagged ST2570 (ST2570CQ) exhibited significant enzymological properties, such as new free aldehyde groups, a high level of protein expression and improved enzyme activity. SBA-15 has widely been used as an immobilization support for its large surface and excellent thermal and chemical stability. It was functionalized with amino groups by aminopropyltriethoxysilane. The C-terminal aldehyde-tagged ST2570 was immobilized to SBA-15 by covalent binding. The site-specific immobilization of ST2570 avoided the chemical denaturation that occurs in general covalent immobilization and resulted in better fastening compared to physical adsorption. The site-specific immobilized ST2570 showed 3-fold higher thermal stability, 1.2-fold higher catalytic ability and improved operational stability than free ST2570. The site-specific immobilized ST2570 retained 60% of its original activity after seven cycles of batch operation, and it was superior to the ST2570 immobilized to SBA-15 by physical adsorption, which loses 40% of its original activity when used for the second time. It is remarkable that the site-specific immobilized ST2570 still retained 100% of its original activity after 10 cycles of reuse in the semi-continuous flow reactor. Overall, these results provide support for the industrial-scale production and application of site-specific, covalently immobilized ST2570.

Surface modification of porous particles with functional groups is a common way to anchor noble metal catalysts. Herein, surface modification of mesoporous silica (SBA-15) was performed using polyphenols (PNs) through oxidative copolymerization of tea polyphenols and theophylline. The PNs modification ratios on subsequent both Pt loading and chemical states of supported Pt are thoroughly investigated. Catalytic activity of the resulting catalysts was evaluated through various hydrosilylation reactions, while its recyclability was also examined. Results show that modification with PNs can not only facilitates the loading of Pt, but also favors the formation of more active Pt 0 species, thereby increase the catalytic activity of the catalyst. Among them, the SBA-15-PNs-Pt-2 catalyst with the highest PNs ratios exhibits both high activity, good selectivity of anti-Markovnikov addition products and excellent recycling performance. Meanwhile, whether it is under low catalyst loadings or toward the hydrosilylation reactions between a series of substrates, the SBA-15-PNs-Pt-2 catalyst all exhibit undeclined activity, which again signifies the substantial role of PNs in both loading and anchoring Pt species.

The separation of zirconium (Zr) and hafnium (Hf) represents a critical challenge in the nuclear industry, where Hf-selective adsorbents are essential for sustainable separation. Here, mesoporous silica SBA-15 synthesized via a soft-template strategy was employed as an Hf-selective adsorbent for Zr/Hf separation. Under optimal conditions, SBA-15 demonstrated pronounced selectivity for Hf4+, achieving a separation coefficient (βHf/Zr) of 2.9. The adsorption behavior for both Zr4+ and Hf4+ on SBA-15 was well described by the Langmuir isotherm and pseudo-second-order kinetic models, indicating that the adsorption of Zr4+ and Hf4+ is a monolayer chemisorption. Thermodynamic analysis further confirms that the adsorption process is spontaneous and endothermic. Combined with characterizations and density functional theory calculations, the abundant intrinsic silanol groups (−Si–OH) on SBA-15 were determined as the primary adsorption sites. Furthermore, the binding energy between Hf4+ and SBA-15 (−9.69 eV) is markedly lower than that between Zr4+ and SBA-15 (−9.40 eV), driving the preferential adsorption of Hf4+. Compared with Zr, the expanded 5d orbital distribution of Hf facilitates more effective bonding with the 2p orbitals of oxygen in silanol groups. This work offers a promising green and sustainable approach for the selective separation of Hf from Zr/Hf mixtures, with potential applications in both scientific research and industry.

Combustion of diesel and other fuel oils releases sulfur oxides (SOx) from their inherent organosulfur compounds, causing exhaust catalyst deactivation and severe environmental pollution. Given the limitations of conventional hydrodesulfurization (HDS) in removing refractory sulfur species under mild conditions, developing efficient oxidative desulfurization (ODS) strategies has become increasingly important. To address this challenge, a supported high-entropy metal oxide catalyst, HEO(Pt)@SBA-15, was synthesized using mesoporous SBA-15 as the support and Pt in high-entropy oxide (HEO) as the primary active component. Detailed characterizations demonstatre that the high-entropy oxide was successfully confined within the mesoporous framework. The subsequent dispersion of the HEO(Pt)@SBA-15 catalyst in the ionic liquid 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate ([Bmim]BF4) yielded a heterogeneous ionic-liquid catalyst designated HEO(Pt)@SBA-15-B. This hybrid catalyst integrates strong extractive capability with the robust oxidation properties of the high-entropy oxide. In extractive-coupled catalytic oxidative desulfurization (ECODS) of diesel, HEO(Pt)@SBA-15-B exhibited remarkable efficiency arising from the synergistic interplay between ionic-liquid extraction and catalytic oxidation. Complete removal of dibenzothiophene was achieved within 5 h under optimized conditions, and the catalyst retained 94.2% DBT conversion after five consecutive cycles, demonstrating excellent stability and reusability.

The goal of producing limonene epoxide and separating p -cymene from tire pyrolysis oil (TPO) could be achieved after epoxidation . However, the existing catalytic epoxidation process has the problem of cumbersome catalyst separation process, which is not conducive to industrial applications. In this work, the heterogeneous catalysts polyoxometalate-SBA-15 were prepared with the point of simplifying separation process. Heteropoly acid anions (phosphotungstic acid or peroxophosphotungstic acid) with catalytic active successfully enter the mesoporous pores of SBA-15, exhibiting high limonene conversion in the TPO system. The PW 4 species produced by phosphotungstic acid after oxidation of H 2 O 2 was favorable for improving the selectivity of epoxidation. The catalyst S- D -PW 4 prepared showed high catalytic activity and epoxidation selectivity with the condition of H 2 O 2 as an oxidant and free of solvent. Furthermore, A statistical experimental approach was used to comprehensively evaluate the reaction conditions. The conversion of limonene in TPO could reach 99.78%, and the yield of 1,2-limonene epoxide and diepoxide were 67.96% and 20.16%, respectively. A variety of characterization techniques such as 31 P NMR, XPS, and ICP were employed to analyze the difference in catalyst before and after epoxidation. S- D -PW 4 could be easily separated and the catalytic activity and epoxidation selectivity remained high after 5 cycles.
