Peroxymonosulfate (PMS)-based advanced oxidation technology has emerged as an effective means for removing organic pollutants from water due to its strong oxidizing ability. However, enhancing the activation efficiency of PMS represents a key challenge at present. SrTiO3, a typical perovskite metal oxide, holds potential in the field of the photocatalytic degradation of pollutants, yet its application is limited by the wide bandgap and fast carrier recombination rates. This study optimized the photocatalytic performance of SrTiO3by regulating its electronic structure and optical properties through cobalt (Co) doping. Experimental results (TRPL, TPV, UV–Vis DRS, ESR, etc.) and DFT calculations (GGA-PBE) demonstrated that Co doping shifted the d-band center of SrTiO3upwards, optimized the adsorption energy of SO4−, enhanced the sunlight response range, and significantly improved carrier extraction efficiency. Under visible light irradiation, 2,4-dichlorophenol (2,4-DCP) could be effectively degraded within 60 min in a wide pH range. Through Fukui function calculation (B3LYP/6-31G*) and experimental characterization analysis (HPLC-MS and IC), the possible degradation pathways of 2,4-DCP and the mechanism for photocatalysis were investigated. The toxicity analysis (T.E.S.T) confirmed the reduced toxicity of the degradation products of 2,4-DCPs. This study provides a reference for the catalyst design and optimization strategy of PMS-based advanced oxidation technology.

Organic dye pollution in industrial wastewater poses a serious environmental challenge, with methylene blue (MB) serving as a typical persistent pollutant due to its stable chemical structure, recalcitrance to degradation, and eco-toxicity. Conventional physical, chemical, and biological treatment methods suffer from limitations such as insufficient efficiency, high cost, or the tendency to generate secondary pollution. Based on green and sustainable photocatalysis technology, this study designed and prepared a NiO/SrTiO3p-n heterojunction photocatalysts, aiming to broaden the light-response range and enhance charge-carrier separation efficiency. The optimal sample (NiO (10%)/SrTiO3) achieved complete photocatalytic degradation of MB within 9 min, with an apparent rate constant 34.6 times that of pure SrTiO3. It also showed good cyclic stability. Trapping experiments confirmed that •OH and •O2−were the key active species in the degradation process. Combined with band structure and PL analyses, an S-scheme charge-transfer mechanism was proposed, clarifying the critical role of the built-in electric field at the heterojunction interface in promoting carrier separation while maintaining high redox capability. This work not only provides a new pathway for developing efficient and stable SrTiO3-based photocatalysts but also offers theoretical and experimental support for the practical application of p-n heterojunction photocatalysts in environmental pollution control.

Sunlight-driven photocatalytic overall water splitting (OWS) is a promising approach for solar-to-chemical energy conversion. However, its realization with a single photocatalyst by one-step excitation has been extremely limited due to the rapid recombination of photogenerated charges, slow surface redox kinetics, and undesired reverse reactions. Herein, we sought to enhance the OWS performance of SrTiO3 (STO) by exploring the synergistic effects of different kinds of metal/oxide dual cocatalysts. The results show that the Pt/CrOx-STO system had a superior activity, which achieved stoichiometric water splitting with H2/O2 evolution of 1814.17/1020.47 μmol g–1 h–1 under simulated sunlight, without using any sacrificial reagents. The enhanced efficiency can be attributed to the improved interfacial transport of photogenerated charges and the boosted surface kinetics. Importantly, the CrOx layer served as a selective membrane that prevented the O2 diffusion and facilitated H+ transport, while partially covering the highly active site of Pt nanoparticles, thus significantly inhibiting the reverse recombination reaction of H2 and O2. In particular, this dual catalyst system emphasized a low dependence on the properties of the substrate material and is therefore widely applicable and economical. This work demonstrated the potential of the Pt/CrOx dual cocatalyst modification strategy for optimizing photocatalytic OWS, providing a pathway toward selective and sustainable conversion of H2O to H2 and O2.

Sr(Nb 0.5 Ga 0.5 ) x Ti 1-x O 3 (x = 1 %, 2 %, 3 %, 5 %) (STNG) ceramics were synthesized in nitrogen atmosphere by a solid state method. All samples exhibited a cubic perovskite structure without secondary phase. With the increase of the co-doped concentration of Nb 5+ and Ga 3+ , the grain sizes increased firstly and then decreased. The STNG ceramic with x = 3 % exhibited a colossal permittivity (CP) of 24502 and a low dielectric loss of 0.012 at 1kHz and room temperature. Compared with those samples sintered in air, the samples sintered in nitrogen atmosphere have a higher dielectric constant with lower dielectric loss. The phase structure, surface morphology, element distribution, element valence states and dielectric properties of STNG ceramics were investigated. And the mechanism of colossal permittivity was also explored, which indicated that the CP could be attributed to the formation of [ T i 4 + • e − V O • • − e • T i 4 + ] defect dipole.

Modification of a wide-bandgap semiconductor with noble metals that can exhibit surface plasmon effect is an effective approach to make it responsive to the visible light . In this work, a series of cubic and all-edge-truncated SrTiO 3 with and without thermal pretreatment in air are modified by Ag nanoparticles via photodeposition method. The crystal structure, morphology, loading amount of Ag nanoparticles, and optical properties of the obtained Ag-SrTiO 3 nanomaterials are well characterized by powder X-ray diffraction, scanning microscope, transmission electron microscope, energy disperse X-ray spectroscopy, ICP-MS and UV–vis diffuse-reflection spectroscopy. The loading amount and size of the Ag nanoparticles can be controlled to some extent by tuning the photodeposition time via growth-dissolution mechanism. The Ag nanoparticles are inclined to deposit on different locations on the surface of cubic and truncated SrTiO 3 with and without thermal pretreatment. The resultant SrTiO 3 modified by Ag nanoparticles exhibits visible light activity for photocatalytic reduction of CO 2 , which is closely related to the oxygen vacancy induced by thermal pretreatment, size and amount of Ag nanoparticles. Accordingly, there is an optimized photodeposition time for the synthesis of the photocatalyst that exhibits the highest photocatalytic activity.

Photocatalytic reduction of CO 2 to methanol over SrTiO 3 (ST) perovskite oxide is considered as a promising method to alleviate environment and energy problems at the same time. Meanwhile, the inducing of Cu plays an important role in photocatalytic activity and selectivity. Herein, a series of SrTi 1-x Cu x O 3 -H 2 (STCu x -H, x = 0.04, 0.06, 0.08, and 0.1) nanofiber catalysts were prepared by electrospinning combined with in-situ dissolution strategy. Cu x O dissolved in situ on a one-dimensional nanofiber structure could realize more active sites exposed and convenient directional movement of electrons, simultaneously. The unique structure facilitates the enhancement of photocatalytic activity and the improvement of selectivity. The methanol yield of STCu 0.08 -H nanofiber catalyst upped to 5.38 ± 0.19 μmol·g −1 ·h −1 , which was twice that of ST. Moreover, the photocatalytic activity did not decrease significantly after four times of reuse. The characterization further demonstrated that STCu 0.08 -H had stronger light response ability and faster electron transfer ability than ST under the synergistic action of Cu 2+ and Cu + . STCu 0.08 -H had superior CO 2 adsorption, activation ability, and electronic reduction capability by DFT calculation. This study provided a new idea about the design of perovskite oxide nanofiber for photocatalytic CO 2 reduction.

Understanding the processes of charge generation, transfer and capture is important for the design and synthesis of efficient photocatalysts. In this work, light-induced charge separation and effect of O 2 on electron transfer processes in SrTiO 3 were investigated by electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR). It was found that photoinduced electron transfer from O 2− to Ti 4+ produced Ti 3+ and O − redox radical pairs under vacuum condition. Under oxygen atmosphere, however, surface bound superoxide radicals O 2 − were formed by electron reduction of adsorbed oxygen at initial photoirradiation stage, and quenched by the reverse electron transfer to Ti 4+ upon further photoirradiation. Formation of long-lived charge separation associated [Ti 3+ ---O − ] species and the reversibility of surface bound superoxide radicals mediating the processes of photogenerated electrons may be accountable for the high activity of SrTiO 3 in photocatalytic water splitting reaction.

A porous carbon quantum dots (CQDs)–SrTiO3/graphene material (CSG) was synthesized using a novel sol–gel carbonized propagation method (SCPM). In this method, the prepared gel was first immersed in an organic solvent with low-temperature self-propagating properties, and after being ignited, the product is obtained through carbonized propagation processes. Various characterization studies showed that CQDs, SrTiO3 and graphene can be combined through the SCPM, and CQDs and SrTiO3 form a heterojunction on the surface of the material, which is conducive to the recovery of the photocatalyst and improvement of the photocatalytic performance. The existence of a reducing atmosphere resulted in the occurrence of the doping process of CQDs. Photocatalytic degradation experiments showed that, with the increase of ethanol consumption, the catalytic performance tends to be stable. CSG-5, which consumes 80 mL of ethanol, has the best effect on MB degradation. When the dosage is 1.5 g L−1 and the concentration of MB is 5 mg L−1, the degradation rate is 94%. h+ and ˙O2− played a major role in the degradation system of CSG-5. UPLC-MS/MS results showed that 8 kinds of intermediates were produced during the degradation process. The special structure and preparation method of CSG-5 might help to prepare better photocatalysts.

SrTiO 3 as a photocatalytic overall water splitting material has received extensive attention in recent years, while effectively suppressing Ti 3+ is the key to enhancing the photocatalytic performance. Herein, a polymerizable complexation method is employed to enable Al 3+ uniformly enter into SrTiO 3 lattice for reducing Ti 3+ , and substituting Ti 4+ with the formation of oxygen vacancy. Thus, the photogenerated carrier transport is promoted, and the resulting appropriate surface oxygen vacancy is also conducive to the adsorption of water molecules and OH*. The optimized 2% Al 3+ -doped SrTiO 3 possesses a lower Ti 3+ concentration, compared with the same sample prepared by the solid-phase griding method. Consequently, 2% Al-STO sample deposited co-catalysts achieves the highest activity and durability with the H 2 and O 2 evolution rates of 1.256 mmol·h −1 and 0.692 mmol·h −1 (0.04 g catalyst), respectively, corresponding to the AQE value of 55.46% at 365 nm. The characterizations and DFT calculation results reveal that the uniform Al 3+ doping promotes the increase in the surface oxygen vacancy, which is beneficial for accelerating the reduction reaction and facilitating carrier separation and migration, therefore enhancing the overall water splitting reaction.

The construction of low-cost, high-performance electrocatalysts instead of platinum catalysts is critical to solving the energy crisis. Here, using simple electrospinning and hydrothermal methods, new MoS2 nanosheets on SrTiO3 nanofibers (NFs) and 2D SrTiO3@MoS2 heterostructure NFs are synthesized. In addition, SrTiO3@MoS2 heterostructure NFs are compared with bare SrTiO3 NFs and MoS2 nanosheets. Importantly, the prepared SrTiO3@MoS2 heterostructure shows better hydrogen-evolution reaction performance than other MoS2-based electrocatalysts with an overpotential of 165 mV at 10 mA cm−2, a Tafel slope of 81.41 mV dec−1, and long-term electrochemical durability of 3000 cycles. Therefore, the present work strongly demonstrates the positive synergy between SrTiO3 NFs and layered MoS2, and also provides a strategy for preparing low-cost and high-activity water-decomposition electrocatalysts.

We systematically investigated the impact of reaction atmosphere on the Pt cocatalyst photodeposition and hydrogen evolution . A long induction period which is hardly found in close-system appears in the presence of oxygen, and is affected by the concentration of chloroplatinic acid. The Pt cocatalyst is metal state and contributes to the electronic states near Fermi level judging from the valence band X-ray photoelectron spectrum. The cocatalyst metal Pt will reduce the surface photovoltage signals due to the metal feature. The hydrogen evolution rate increased and reached a platform with increasing the Pt coverage on the surface of photocatalyst which is characterized by the Pt:Ti atomic ratio.

Construction of versatile multijunctions with visible light response, effective charges transport and separation, suitable band positions, and good stability is highly expected for the photocatalytic VOCs degradation. Herein, one-dimensional titania nanotube supported SrTiO3 heterostructure (STO/TN) was developed by a hydrothermal process and then simultaneously sensitized with carbon nitride polymer (CN) and doped with nitrogen (CN-STO/TN) for photocatalytic mineralization of toluene. CN-STO/TN simultaneously exhibits the following advantages: (1) the nanotube structure enhances light-harvesting, enables effective charges transport and separation, retains sufficient energy of the charges, facilitates the pollutant species transport and reactants enrichment by the confinement effect; (2) synergistic effect of CN sensitization and N-doping extends the light response to the visible light region; (3) multichannel charges separation and transport among the multijunctions promote the photogenerated carriers separation. These beneficial factors lead to the remarkably higher visible light photocatalytic performance of CN-STO/TN in comparison with the component photocatalysts, 27 times that of TN, 13.5 times that of STO, and 4.9 times that of CN, respectively. These results demonstrate that the combination of morphology tailoring and energy band alignment manipulation is important in designing effective heterojunctions for photocatalytic applications.
