Linear ion trap mass analyzer could improve analytical performance compared to the traditional three-dimensional ion trap. In this study, a systematic investigation of the effect of octopole field on the performance of linear quadrupole ion trap was studied by both theoretical simulations and experiments. An asymmetric semi-circular linear ion trap (AsC-LIT) analyzer was designed and tested based on the theoretical results. The AsC-LIT consists of one pair of larger semi-circular rods with radius Ry and one pair of smaller semi-circular rods with radius Rx (Ry > Rx) in the cross section for introducing the quantitative octopole field. The analytical performances of these simplified AsC-LITs with different amounts of octopole fields were carefully investigated using both theoretical simulations and experimental validation. Experimental results showed that it could have a mass resolution of 1645 at m/z 175 (arginine); furthermore, the low mass cutoff and CID efficiency can be significantly improved when some positive octopole is added. The simulative results indicated that 2.56% octopole component was the best choice for achieving higher analytical performances. The theoretical and experimental studies of this work could certainly enrich the knowledge of a higher order electric field effect on the linear ion trap, furthermore, the simple geometric design and performance characteristics of this new AsC-LIT make it particularly attractive in the development of miniaturized mass spectrometers.

Tungsten carbide (W2C) has emerged as a potential alternative to noble-metal catalysts toward hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) owing to its Pt-like electronic configuration. However, unsatisfactory activity, dilatory electron transfer, and inefficient synthesizing methods, especially for nanoscale particles, have severely hindered its large-scale applications. Herein, a novel heterostructure composed of W2C and tungsten phosphide (WP) embedded in nitrogen-decorated carbon (W2C/WP@NC) was constructed as an efficient HER electrocatalyst. The as-prepared W2C/WP@NC catalyst exhibits remarkable electrocatalytic activity and robust durability toward HER both in acids and bases. More notably, the W2C/WP@NC catalyst demonstrates low overpotentials of 116.37 and 196.2 mV to afford a current density of 10 mA cm–2 and reveals slight potential decays of about 6.4 and 7.64% over 12 h continuous operation in bases and acids, respectively. The overall water-splitting performance was further evaluated using the W2C/WP@NC catalyst as the cathode and commercial RuO2 as the anode in an electrolyzer, which can realize an overall current density of 10 mA cm–2 and maintain long durability of more than 12 h with a small cell voltage of 1.723 V. This work opens up new opportunities for exploring cost-efficient electrocatalysts in sustainable energy conversion.

To achieve potent inhibition, reduced environmental impacts and excellent compatibility between drilling fluid and shale inhibitors, an eco-friendly amphoteric inhibitor based on carboxymethyl chitosan (CMCS) was synthesized. The molecular structure of CMCS was characterized by potentiometric titration, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and nuclear magnetic resonance, and the carboxymethyl substitution degree was revealed to be approximately 0.94. The inhibition performance was evaluated through linear swelling and hot-rolling dispersion tests, and the results were compared with those obtained with low-molecular-weight cationic polyether diamine, high-molecular-weight non-ionic polysaccharide encapsulator, and potassium chloride. The interaction between clay particles and CMCS molecules was investigated by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, surface wettability , particle size distribution , zeta potential and surface tension tests. The results showed that CMCS with a specific amphoteric molecular structure exhibited a different inhibition behaviour compared with conventional inhibitors, more effectively prevented clay hydration and swelling and inhibited shale disintegration at both 77 °C and 150 °C. CMCS could absorb onto the clay surface via electrostatic force and hydrogen bonding, and an encapsulation film was formed through intermolecular interactions to immobilize outer free water molecules and to provide hydrophobic characteristics. CMCS intercalates into clay lattice, expels inner water and reduces the interlayer space . Additionally, CMCS reduces the surface tension of the bulk solution and hinders fluid invasion. Furthermore, CMCS was compatible with bentonite dispersion and improved the rheological and filtration properties at a suitable concentration.

In this paper, the integrated pharmacokinetics (PK) of an Acanthopanax senticosus extract preparation (ASEP, named as Ciwujia injection in clinic in China) was explored by combining with multi-component PK in rats, virtual screening, systems pharmacology and molecular docking. Firstly, the ingredients in ASEP with high contents and detectable property in rat plasma were selected. Next, the PK study of the resulted ingredients was performed in rats (1.76 ml/kg and 3.52 ml/kg of 5 times concentrated ASEP, single i.v.). Meanwhile, the drug targets for the ingredients screened out were predicted by using a target fishing online server, PharmMapper (http://www.lilab-ecust.cn/pharmmapper/) with a fit filtration threshold of z’-score >0. Next, the network pharmacology, molecular docking, diseases ontology (DO) analysis, and Kyoto encyclopedia of genes and genomes (KEGG) pathway enrichment analysis were performed respectively for the predicted targets. Finally, the supporting evidences were obtained to characterize the PK markers and carry out the integrated PK study with “plasma-drug concentration sum” or “plasma-drug AUC weighted” methods. As a result, 6 ingredients, involving 5-caffeoylquinic acid (5-CQA), 3-CQA, 4-CQA, protocatechuic acid, eleutheroside B, and gentiopicroside were selected, and their PK profiles were elucidated. The 6 ingredients were highly related to arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease and atherosclerosis and could mainly interact with similar targets, e.g., GSK3B, PDPK1, PLAU, etc., or pathways, e.g., Insulin, VEGF, FoxO, etc, providing the basis for integrating plasma drug concentration. Ultimately, the 6 ingredients were considered as PK markers and the whole in vivo process of ASEP were characterized. Our study would enhance understanding of the therapeutic effects and mechanisms of ASEP against cardiovascular diseases, and provided useful insights for future integrated PK study on anti-cardiovascular diseases TCM injections.

Durable CuO/ZnO/CeO 2 /ZrO 2 catalyst on SiC support for methanol steam reforming (MSR) was prepared by the combination of inverse microemulsion method and precipitation method which is termed as inverse microemulsion/precipitation method. The presence of Ce−O−Zr solid solution facilitated the production of oxygen vacancies and Ce 3+ species in the prepared CuO/ZnO/CeO 2 /ZrO 2 catalyst. Owing to the unique tiny reaction pool and the addition of precipitant for inverse microemulsion/precipitation method, the particle size of the prepared catalyst was principally between 2 and 6 nm, with an average size of 3.66 nm. Besides, the small particle size and the highly dispersed of Cu species boosted the reduction performance of the catalyst, enabling the reduction temperature to be only 201 °C. The methanol conversion of the reduced catalyst was still reached 98.8 % after 150 h, considerably higher than that of solution combustion method (70 %), without carbon deposition and pronounced sintering after MSR reaction.

Poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrene sulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) is widely used as a hole transport layer (HTL) in inverted perovskite solar cells (PSCs) because of its excellent hole transport capability and simple preparation process. According to theoretical studies, a thinner PEDOT:PSS HTL allows more incident light to enter the perovskite layer. However, the PEDOT:PSS HTL prepared by the traditional deposition process has some limitations, such as the thick HTL, abundant defects at the PEDOT:PSS/perovskite interface, etc. Is there a preparation process that can achieve the thinning and modification of the PEDOT:PSS HTL in one-step process at the same time? In this work, inspired by the semiconductor etching process, an eco-friendly solvent etching technique is applied during the spin-coating process to fabricate an ultrathin PEDOT:PSS HTL and simultaneously introduce a green passivator (polyethylene glycol, PEG) as the bridge molecule on the HTL upper surface. In this process, the green PEG aqueous etchant can etch the excess bulk PEDOT:PSS away to form an ultrathin PEDOT:PSS HTL with PEG molecules and rich PEDOT domains remained on its surface (PEG-PEDOT:PSS HTL). This well-designed HTL is successfully thinned to enhance its light transmission and can be better matched with the Sn–Pb perovskite layer. As a result, the power conversion efficiency of Sn–Pb PSCs using the PEG-PEDOT:PSS HTL is improved from 20.52% of the reference to 21.58%, and the stability of Sn–Pb PSCs is dramatically enhanced as well.

An antifouling aptasensor is described for voltammetric determination of adenosine triphosphate (ATP). A glassy carbon electrode (GCE) was modified with a graphene oxide and poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (GO-PEDOT) composite film by electrodeposition. Next, the zwitterionic peptide (EKEKEKE) was attached. It forms an antifouling layer on the modified GCE and serves as the support for subsequent aptamer immobilization. The resulting aptasensor typically is operated at a potential of 0.18 V (vs. SCE) using hexacyanoferrate as the electrochemical probe. It has a linear response in the 0.1 pM to 1.0 μM ATP concentration range, a 0.03 pM detection limit and a sensitivity of 2674.7 μA·μM −1 ·cm −2 . It has outstanding selectivity, satisfactory reproducibility and desired stability. It was used to quantify ATP in ATP-spiked 10% serum solutions.

The Cs-based inorganic perovskite solar cells (PSCs), such as CsPbI 2 Br, have made a striking breakthrough with power conversion efficiency (PCE) over 16% and potential to be used as top cells for tandem devices. Herein, I − is partially replaced with the acetate anion (Ac − ) in the CsPbI 2 Br framework, producing multiple benefits. The Ac − doping can change the morphology, electronic properties, and band structure of the host CsPbI 2 Br film. The obtained CsPbI 2− x Br(Ac) x perovskite films present lower trap densities, longer carrier lifetimes, and fast charge transportation compared to the host CsPbI 2 Br films. Interestingly, the CsPbI 2− x Br(Ac) x PSCs exhibit a maximum PCE of 15.56% and an ultrahigh open circuit voltage ( V oc ) of 1.30 V without sacrificing photocurrent. Notably, such a remarkable V oc is among the highest values of the previously reported CsPbI 2 Br PSCs, while the PCE far exceeds all of them. In addition, the obtained CsPbI 2− x Br(Ac) x PSCs exhibit high reproducibility and good stability. The stable CsPbI 2− x Br(Ac) x PSCs with high V oc and PCE are desirable for tandem solar cell applications.

Achieving a lower detection limit is always crucial for X-ray detectors in medical imaging. Two-dimensional (2D) perovskites are superior candidate materials for X-ray detection due to their high bulk resistivity, excellent environmental stability, and negligible ion migration under high bias. However, the reported detection limit of 2D perovskite X-ray detectors still apparently lags behind that of their 3D analogues due to the difficulty in the growth of high-quality bulk 2D perovskite single crystals (SCs). Herein, we demonstrate an X-ray detector with an ultra-low detection limit based on high-quality bulk PEA2PbBr4 SCs grown in HBr solution for the first time. According to the solubility difference of reactants, a slowly varying nucleation curve for the precursor solution is designed to stabilize growth rate and reduce defect density during crystal growth. The fabricated Au/PEA2PbBr4/Au detector shows a low noise level of 10−5 nA Hz−1/2 and an ultra-low dark current drift of 6.6 × 10−7 pA cm−1 V−1 s−1. Together with a commendable hole lifetime of 2.76 μs and hole mobility-lifetime product of 5.8 × 10−4 cm2 V−1, the produced detector exhibits a high sensitivity of 2998 μC Gyair s−1 cm−2 and a record-low detection limit of 0.79 nGyair s−1. The current work would be beneficial for the development of next generation medical imaging.

The effect of surface roughness on the detachment between the bubbles and the glass beads (soda-lime) was comprehensively investigated. Glass beads with dimensions of −1.20 + 1.12 mm were acid etched to achieve varying degrees of surface roughness, followed by silanation reactions conducted for different immersion times. The characterization of surface roughness was conducted using a ContourGT-K 3D optical microscope. Measurements of receding contact angle, induction time and detachment force were conducted to assess the influence of surface roughness on bubble and glass bead attachment/detachment. It is observed that the etching surface of glass beads with uniform protrusions and depressions, the hydrophobic glass beads exhibited shorter induction time, larger contact angle and higher critical detachment force. However, the stability of aggregates of bubbles and hydrophilic glass beads was reduced, making them prone to detachment. Moreover, larger protrusions and depressions on hydrophobic glass bead surfaces with increasing etching time, resulted in an increase in induction time, a decrease in receding contact angle and critical detachment force. The stability of bubbles and hydrophilic glass bead aggregates remained unchanged.

This study aimed to enhance the weak antibacterial activity of silk fibroin (SF) by creating a composite edible coating film. The film was composed of chitosan (CS), SF, and a 3% (v/v) cinnamon essential oil microemulsion (CEOM), which showed excellent inhibition rates of over 99% against two bacteria and four fungi. The resulting film had a transparency of 84.6% and a contact angle of 61.85° on hydrophobic surfaces. In addition, it exhibited a low water vapor permeability of 1.09 × 10 −12 g·cm −1 ·s −1 ·Pa −1 . These properties make it ideal for use in food coating applications. To assess the preservation capabilities of the composite films, strawberries were coated with different films: CS, SF, SF-CEOM, and SF-CS-CEOM. The results showed that the SF-CS-CEOM film had a similar effect to the SF-CEOM film in suppressing the deterioration of strawberries, when compared to the untreated group, and the shelf life of the strawberries was extended from 2 days to 8 days. The SF-CS-CEOM film inhibits oxidation and metabolism by reducing gas exchange, thereby protecting the integrity of cell membranes, maintaining firmness, and reducing weight loss, while delaying the onset of spoilage by inhibiting microbial growth.

The rapid and reliable quantitative detection of biological targets encounters challenges such as limited driving forces in reactions, low overall strand utilization, and the synthetic complexity of multi-modal materials. To address these issues, the design concept “entropy–enthalpy coupling with dual-mode decoupling” is introduced for the first time. Using miRNA-21 as a model analyte, an entropy–enthalpy co-driven decoupled dual-mode biosensor was developed by integrating independent photoelectrochemical (PEC) and fluorescent (FL) modules to assess its feasibility. Specifically, an output strand was designed within a three-stranded substrate/output complex, in which the terminal bases form hairpin structures through complementary pairing. This configuration enables the establishment of an entropy–enthalpy coupling driving force—increased entropy for the substrate strand and decreased enthalpy for the output strand—during cyclic amplification reactions. Additionally, by conjugating the substrate, fuel and output strands separately to magnetic beads, photosensitive materials, and fluorophores, complete decoupling of the PEC and FL modes was achieved, allowing independent PEC and FL signal outputs. In the developed biosensor, the device demonstrated well-defined linear correlation for PEC and FL within the 10 aM to 10 nM range, and the detection limits for miRNA-21 were established at 4.2 aM (PEC) and 5.3 aM (FL). Experimental results demonstrated the substantial potential of the “entropy–enthalpy coupling with dual-mode decoupling” framework for rapid and reliable quantitative detection of biological targets, while also providing new design paradigms for sensors in fields such as food safety and agriculture.
