Green synthesis of metallic nanoparticles (NPs) using plant extracts has received considerable attention due to its environmentally and economically friendly nature. Various metabolites in plants such as amino acids, organic acids, sugars and phenolic compounds have been speculated to be responsible for the synthesis of metallic NPs in previous studies. However, to date, there has been a lack of direct evidence linking specific metabolites to the reduction of metal ions to form metallic NPs. Here, AgNPs are synthesized using cucumber leaf extract and characterized by UV-visible spectroscopy, dynamic light scattering (DLS) and transmission electron spectroscopy (TEM). Single particle inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (sp-ICP-MS) was used to investigate the size of newly synthesized NPs as well as the kinetics of particle formation. Gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC-MS) based metabolomics identified and quantified 245 metabolites in cucumber leaf extracts. By comparing the concentrations of metabolites before and after the reaction, the metabolites responsible for the synthesis were screened out. Reducing sugars (cellobiose, ribulose-5-phosphate, melibiose, 2-deoxy-D-glucose, tagatose, fructose, ribose, 3,6-anhydro-D-galactose) were markedly decreased after the reaction, indicating that reducing sugars are involved in the biosynthesis process and possibly function as reducing agents. The key thermodynamic data of the reaction between Ag+ and reducing sugars were obtained by using isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC), which further confirmed the interaction between Ag+ and metabolites. This study provides a deep insight into the reaction process and mechanism of green synthesized AgNPs.

Flexible conductive hydrogel-based electronic skin (E-skin) for simultaneously biotherapeutics and sensing is one of the current research directions. In this study, conductive and homogeneous silk fibroin/polyaniline/AgNPs complexes (SPAg complexes) were prepared with the assistance of silk fibroin, which greatly optimized the compatibility of PANI with the hydrogel matrix. Then, SPAg was introduced into the covalently crosslinked polymer network to prepare poly(acrylamide -co- sulfobetaine methacrylate) – SPAg hydrogels (labeled as PSPAg hydrogels). The PSPAg hydrogels exhibit good biocompatibility, excellent mechanical properties, superb adhesive performance, and fantastic sensing capabilities. Being connected to a smartphone via a Bluetooth system, the SPAg hydrogel-based E-skin was employed to accurately monitor human movements including vigorous joint moving and subtle facial micro-expressions. Finally, benefit from synergistic effect of antimicrobial and exogenous electrical stimulation, through promoting angiogenesis and accelerating collagen production in diabetic wounds, PSPAg E-skin successfully facilitates rapid diabetic wound healing. Therefore, the multifunctional PSPAg hydrogel-based E-skin shows great promise for applications in wearable devices and bioelectronics.

In order to comply with the requirement of flame retardancy and electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding for encapsulant applied to electronic devices, multifunctional thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) composites are prepared with the construction of an intumescent flame retardant (IFR) system comprising internal conductive network. In this work, ammonium polyphosphate wrapped with MXene (MXene@APP) is attained by microencapsulation, and expandible graphite decorated with Ag nanoparticles (AgNPs@EG) is prepared by the reducibility of silk sericin. The IFR system with conductivity is established by the introduction of MXene@APP, AgNPs@EG and furfural-derived Schiff base (FDS). The as-prepared TPU/MXene@APP/FDS/AgNPs@EG composites are able to attain significant elevation in flame retardancy, exhibiting V-0 rating and a LOI value of 33.1 %. Furthermore, TPU composites are integrated with warp-knitted metal mesh (WMM) to fabricate TPU@WMM coated fabric, displaying strengthened electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding effectiveness (SE) of 37.53 dB within X band. This work provides a potential method for application in encapsulant with flame retardancy and electromagnetic protection.

The application of biodegradable and environment-friendly packaging materials with antioxidant and antibacterial activities is urgent and essential for food fresh-keeping. In this work, surface-functionalized biodegradable electrospun polylactic acid (PLA) nanofiber films were fabricated via a simple two-step strategy, which integrated the bioinspired coating of tannic acid (TA, a naturally occurring plant polyphenol) and the subsequent in situ immobilization of silver nanoparticle (AgNPs). The TA coating endowed the nanofiber films with excellent antioxidant activity, while simultaneously functioning as reductant and stabilizer for the in situ synthesis of AgNPs from silver source (silver nitrate), and consequently, the reduction process did not necessitate the incorporation of extra reducing or stabilizing agents. The surface morphology and chemical composition of the functionalized PLA nanofiber films were characterized by SEM, EDX and XPS. The TA-mediated surface modification increased the nanofiber diameter compared to pristine PLA film, and the generated AgNPs made the nanofibers much rougher. The fabricated PLA-TA@AgNPs nanofiber films exhibited enhanced mechanical properties, with tensile strength increasing and ∼ 193 % compared to pristine PLA films. Furthermore, the introduction of TA coating impressively imparted the films with excellent antioxidant activity, demonstrating a potent scavenging effect on DPPH and ABTS free radicals. In vitro antibacterial assay showed excellent antibacterial ability of the PLA-TA@AgNPs nanofiber films against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. Furthermore, the functional PLA-TA@AgNPs nanofiber films extended the shelf life of strawberries to at least 8 days at room temperature, as indicated by the appearance, weight loss and firmness loss, demonstrating great potential for use in fresh-keeping packaging applications.

A sensitive electrochemical sensor was constructed for tyrosine detection by collaborating a highly conductivity, excellent electrocatalysis and large surface of nitrogen-rich porous covalent organic framework in situ grown on three-dimensional conductive carboxylated multi-walled carbon nanotubes network and catalytic activity of triangular silver nanosheets. The prepared electrochemical sensing platform exhibited satisfactory results for detection of tyrosine with a wide linear range of 0.6–280 μM and a low detection limit of 0.017 μM, which were significantly superior to those of most existing electrochemical methods. At the same time, the developed sensor was successfully applied to the detection of tyrosine in real samples including human serum and urine and displayed high recoveries, good stability, reproducibility, and anti-interference ability. This study not only provides a novel sensing platform for tyrosine monitoring but also offers an innovative design concept for leveraging multifunctional nanocomposites in biosensing applications. Graphical This work presents UV-induced Tetrahydrofuran (THF) etching lignin-based AgNPs, the use of water to regulate the oxidation ability of THF medium, controlling the conversion of lignin-based AgNPs to AgNWs, color-variable AgNPs, AgNPs precipitation, and rapidly release Ag + , to prepare multi-functional. Its application potential in conductive coatings, and enhanced antibacterial and product separation was tested. This study presents a novel approach for regulating the properties of lignin-based silver nanoparticles (AgNPs), which was UV-induced Tetrahydrofuran (THF) to form peroxide for the etching of these nanoparticles. The lignin coating was first degraded by oxidation, and the properties of the exposed AgNPs changed under etching. Notably, water can greatly regulate the oxidation capacity of the THF medium, thereby controlling the degradation degree of lignin coating and obtaining dissolution, aggregation, precipitation, and color-variable phenomena of AgNPs under the synergistic effect of UV irradiation and peroxide etching. By adjusting UV irradiation time, various functional products of silver nanowires (AgNWs), color-variable AgNPs, lignin-based AgNPs aggregates, and composite solution of Ag particles and Ag + were obtained. The transformation of these product properties is closely related to the oxidation capacity of H 2 O/THF medium. In addition, Multi-functional Lignin-based AgNPs show excellent application potential in conductive coating, antibacterial enhancement, and product separation, providing a promising avenue for the targeted utilization of lignin-based AgNPs.

Utilizing efficient diagnostic methods to assess antibody levels in unexposed individuals and vaccinated populations is of significant importance for the prevention and control of rabies virus (RV). In this study, we developed a novel label-free electrochemical immunosensor based on AgNPs@Co( II )MOFs@PtNPs composite materials for the rapid detection of RV antibodies. The RV nucleocapsid protein (NP) antigen and its nanobodies were firstly prepared using genetic engineering techniques as reagent materials. Next, a bimetallic composite of AgNPs@Co( II )MOFs@PtNPs was synthesized via a mixed solvothermal method, with cobalt-based metal-organic frameworks (Co-MOFs) serving as the substrate. This composite was deposited onto the surface of a glassy carbon electrode, where the RV-NP antigen was covalently attached to the Co-MOF surface, enabling specific binding with RV antibodies. The antigen-antibody interaction resulted in detectable changes in the current, facilitating the sensing process. Finally, the developed immunosensor exhibited a linear detection range for RV NP antibodies from 7.576 × 10 −11 mol/L to 3.788 × 10 −5 mol/L, with a correlation coefficient (R 2 ) of 0.9965 in differential pulse voltammetry, and the limit of detection was defined as 4.508 × 10 −10 mol/L. Furthermore, the newly immunosensor demonstrated excellent repeatability, stability, specificity, and clinical applicability, making it a promising, precise, and cost-effective tool for the early screening of RV antibodies.

In this study, the flat-sheet membrane of polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF)/polystyrene-maleic anhydride (SMA) was fabricated via the thermally induced phase separation (TIPS) technique. Subsequently, a dual-functional anti-fouling hybrid separation layer was developed by co-immobilizing zwitterionic SBMA and silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) onto the polymer membrane upper surface through Michael addition reaction and in-situ dopamine generation method. An organic-inorganic hybrid layer exhibiting dual resistance to both protein fouling and microbial fouling was constructed via the "SBMA-AgNPs" synergistic modification strategy. Furthermore, the antifouling mechanism and performance of the membrane system were systematically investigated. The results demonstrated that when BSA and Escherichia coli (E. coli) were employed as organic and microbial foulant models respectively, the membrane loaded with both zwitterionic SBMA and inorganic AgNPs achieved a flux recovery ratio (FRR) of 96.8 % and antibacterial efficiency exceeding 99.9 %, significantly outperforming membranes loaded with only either AgNPs or SBMA. Meanwhile, the irreversible resistance during operation reduced to 4.5 % and the pure water flux (PWF) decay rate reduced to 20.7 %. Finally, based on the evaluation of the long-term stability and FRR of post-backwashing, the synergistic enhancement anti-fouling mechanism of "organic-inorganic" coupling was elucidated by combining the hydration layer theory of zwitterionic SBMA and the antibacterial mechanism of AgNPs. This study offers novel insights and approaches for the future advancements of water treatment membrane technology.

Real-time monitoring of bearing operational status is critical for mechanical equipment safety. However, integrated temperature-strain sensors often encounter crosstalk between signals, which affects the accuracy and stability of measurements. Achieving precise in-situ monitoring of bearing temperature and strain conditions remains a significant technical challenge. Here, highly linear and stable AgNPs thin-film temperature sensors (AgNPs TFTSs) and AgNPs microcrack thin-film strain gauges (AgNPs MTFSGs) are proposed using laser-assisted printing technology, which are capable of accurately acquiring condition parameters of bearing. The printed AgNPs TFTS exhibited a low hysteresis error of 2.6 % and a high linearity of 0.999. The microcracks in AgNPs MTFSG were induced by ultraviolet (UV) laser, yielding a significant enhancement of the gauge factor (GF) from 1.03 (baseline) to 3.19. This twofold sensitivity improvement was achieved while maintaining excellent linearity (R²=0.997). In particular, these thin-film sensors exhibited good stability even when applied to bearings. Typically, AgNPs TFTS and AgNPs MTFSG maintained a low resistance drift rate of 0.012 %/h and a repeatability error of 2.1 % respectively, demonstrating broad adaptability. In addition, both AgNPs TFTS and AgNPs MTFSG exhibited excellent dynamic and static response characteristics. This provides a method for the direct in-situ fabrication of thin-film sensors with high linearity and high stability on mechanical components, such as gears, bolts, and so on.

A novel homogeneous fluorescence analysis method was developed for the simultaneous detection of glyphosate (GLY) and thiamethoxam (TMX) using aptamer-functionalized carbon dots and polymer dots in conjunction with complementary chain-modified silver nanoparticles (AgNPs). This analytical strategy is based on the principles of fluorescence resonance energy transfer and an indirect competition reaction model. The fluorescence intensity shows a linear correlation with the logarithm of GLY and TMX concentrations over the range of 0.5–1000 ng/mL. The limits of detection for GLY and TMX were determined to be 0.12 ng/mL and 0.10 ng/mL, respectively. The method was successfully applied to the detection of GLY and TMX in various matrices (tap water, apple, pear, and rapeseed oil), with the results being verified by HPLC. This study presents a cost-effective, rapid, and highly sensitive detection method, which holds great promise for future applications in environmental and food-related fields.

MXenes show potential applications in sustainable energy due to their distinct layered structure, large surface area, adjustable surface chemistry and good conductivity, but the big challenge still remains in achieving both high specific capacitance and excellent stability. Herein, ternary strategy of 0D/1D/2D composite was proposed to realize high-performance supercapacitors (SCs) by synergy effect of silver nanoparticles and silver nanowires with Ti 3 C 2 T x . The enhancement in interlayer spacing, specific surface area and electrochemical conductivity resulted in abundant electrochemical active sites and improved ionic accessibility. Therefore, the ternary electrode exhibited excellent specific capacitance and superior cyclic stability, and it showed a specific capacitance of 796.6F g −1 at 2 mV s −1 , more than twice of 387.7F g −1 for Ti 3 C 2 T x . Moreover, the capacitance retention for ternary electrode was 98.2% after 10,000 CV cycles at 50 mV s −1 , comparable to 99.2% for Ti 3 C 2 T x . Furthermore, the symmetric SC with ternary electrode demonstrated specific capacitance of 109F g −1 at 2 mV s −1 with capacitance retention of 96.1% after 10,000 cycles, highlighting great potential for sustainable energy.

Trace allergens hidden in food products, particularly those arising from cross-contamination during manufacturing, can elicit severe and potentially life-threatening allergic reactions. This underscores critical demand for rapid and ultrasensitive detection technologies to identify trace-level allergens in food matrices, thereby enabling proactive prevention of food allergy risks. In this study, a surface-enhanced Raman scattering-based lateral flow immunoassay (SERS-LFA) based on the Au MBA @AgNPs-Apt SERS tag was developed for rapid and ultrasensitive screening of the allergenic risks in food. With the competitive detection principle, the SERS-LFA achieved detection of target allergenic proteins with a limit of detection (LOD) of 2.2 ng/mL within 8 min. Notably, by integrating additional test line on the nitrocellulose (NC) membrane, the method was adapted for multi-target detection. Under the optimized conditions, the SERS-LFA could simultaneously detect milk allergenic β-lactoglobulin (β-Lg) and fish allergenic parvalbumin (PV) with LODs of 40 ng/mL and 1.1 ng/mL, respectively. The proposed method demonstrated excellent specificity, reproducibility, and comparable performance to commercial ELISA kits in real-sample analysis, establishing a robust on-site methodology for rapid allergy risk screening in complex food matrices.
