Thick microwave-absorbing coatings are essential for electromagnetic stealth and protection applications. However, during thermal spraying processes, the microstructural evolution induced by increasing coating thickness and cumulative thermal exposure significantly alter the dielectric response and absorption performance – a phenomenon that has not been systematically clarified. This study systematically examines the thickness-dependent dielectric behavior of TPU/MWCNTs coatings fabricated via flame spraying, revealing that absorption performance deteriorates sharply beyond a critical thickness of 50 μm. Specifically, as the coating thickness increases from 50 μm to 138 μm, the minimum reflection loss ( RL min ) decreases from −24.8 dB to −14.1 dB, and the effective absorption bandwidth ( EAB ) narrows from 5.2 GHz to 1.0 GHz. To address this issue, an innovative porous structure engineering strategy is proposed, wherein WPU replaces TPU and a water/ethanol co-solvent is employed to promote the formation of vertical pores within the coating. This approach significantly enhances the connectivity of conductive fillers along the thickness direction, effectively balancing polarization loss and conductive loss while optimizing both impedance matching and attenuation. The optimized porous coating achieves an exceptional RL min of −50 dB, an EAB of 5.2 GHz, and a maximum RCS of 29.8 dBm 2 . This structural design strategy not only mitigates the performance degradation in thick coatings but also provides a viable route for fabricating lightweight, broadband, and highly efficient microwave-absorbing coating.

An electrochemical MIP sensor for MT was developed. • MT recognition via hydrogen bonding/π-π stacking and electrostatic interactions. • This sensor was simple, rapid, sensitive, and highly selective. • The sensor achieves the detection of MT in milk and serum. The detection of melatonin (MT) is essential for the clinical diagnosis of mental illnesses. In this study, a glassy carbon electrode (GCE) was modified with carboxylated multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and chitosan (CS) to enhance its electrical conductivity and adhesiveness. L-tyrosine (L-tyr) was selected as the functional monomer and electropolymerized with MT to form the biocompatible MIP-MT imprinted layer. The specific recognition of MT by MIP-MT is facilitated by hydrogen bonding and π - π interactions between L-tyr and MT. Additionally, the electrostatic interaction between positively charged CS and negatively charged MT further contributes to the synergistic recognition with MIP-MT. Under optimized conditions, the IF value of MIP-MT reached 3.6. Furthermore, MIP-MT exhibited a detection limit of 0.0979 μM for MT and showed a linear relationship within the range of 0.1–100 μM. MIP-MT demonstrated recovery rates of 93.86%–99.14% in milk, presenting an innovative approach for disorders associated with MT biomarker levels. A novel self-floating Cu@TpMDA@CS sponge was fabricated via chemical crosslinking. • The Cu@TpMDA@CS sponge addresses the recovery challenge of traditional powdered COFs. • Synergistic adsorption mechanisms are discussed in detail. • Cu@TpMDA@CS sponge demonstrates robust stability and reusability after 10 cycles. Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) are promising adsorbents due to their large surface area and tunable pore structures, yet their practical application is constrained by poor recyclability and reusability. To address this issue, a self-floating Cu@TpMDA@CS sponge with a three-dimensional porous network structure was successfully fabricated by chemically crosslinking a copper-based COF (Cu@TpMDA) with chitosan (CS). This design not only facilitated recovery and practical applicability but also enabled the effective removal of hexafluorobisphenol A (BPAF) from aqueous environments. The physicochemical properties of Cu@TpMDA@CS were systematically characterized using SEM-EDS, BET, XPS, XRD, and FT-IR techniques. The adsorption performance for BPAF was evaluated through adsorption isotherm and kinetic studies, cyclic regeneration, and simulated real-water application experiments. The results showed that the adsorption of BPAF onto Cu@TpMDA@CS followed the Freundlich isotherm model and pseudo-second-order kinetic model, with a maximum adsorption capacity of 31.6 mg·g −1 . Notably, the Cu@TpMDA@CS sponge exhibited excellent cyclic reusability, and after 10 adsorption-desorption cycles, its removal efficiency remained at approximately 97.0% of its initial value. The underlying adsorption mechanism was attributed to the synergistic effects of pore filling, hydrogen bond, π-π stacking, and metal coordination interactions. In conclusion, the Cu@TpMDA@CS sponge integrates favorable adsorption performance, excellent chemical stability, and superior recyclability, effectively overcoming the recovery limitations of COF-based adsorbents and demonstrating great promise as a practical candidate for wastewater treatment. The widespread use of antibiotics has exacerbated water pollution, especially as traditional flocculation methods struggle to effectively remove persistent dissolved pollutants. Traditional coagulants often fall short of high-quality water standards due to residual toxicity and degradation issues. In contrast, natural polysaccharide-based polymeric flocculants show great promise. This study developed an efficient composite coagulation system using the complex coacervation method, enabling in situ self-assembly of chitosan (CS) and sodium carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) in aqueous solution. The formation conditions were optimized via conductivity and Zeta potential analyses. FTIR, XPS, and SEM were used to probe the composite's microscopic structure and mechanism. Results showed the CS-CMC system outperformed chitosan alone, achieving a 99.70 % turbidity removal rate in simulated Yellow River water. It also efficiently removed various pollutants, with 87.60 % norfloxacin (NOR) and 50.12 % tetracycline (TC) removal rates. The adsorption kinetics of NOR and TC followed pseudo-second-order and intraparticle diffusion models, indicating unique interaction mechanisms beyond simple adsorption, with TC adhering to the Langmuir model and Temkin model, NOR to the Freundlich model. This eco-friendly flocculant offers an efficient, multifunctional solution for green water treatment.

Addressing global energy and freshwater scarcity requires sustainable, integrated technologies. Inspired by sunflower's water transport mechanisms, we developed a hydrophilic composite aerogel based on polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), chitosan (CS), and waterborne polyurethane (WPU). Incorporating carboxylated multi-walled carbon nanotubes (c-MWCNTs) yielded the BMPCW aerogel, a bifunctional system for simultaneous solar desalination and hydrovoltaic power generation. This design synergizes the aerogel's interfacial evaporation properties with c-MWCNTs' conductivity and photothermal conversion, significantly enhancing water/ion transport and energy conversion efficiency. Under 1 kW m −2 simulated sunlight, the system achieved a high freshwater evaporation rate of 3.41 kg m −2 h −1 and generated an open-circuit voltage of 125.2 mV in 3.5 wt% sodium chloride (NaCl) solution. The BMPCW aerogel exhibits excellent chemical stability, renewability, and maintains robust performance over multiple cycles. Aerogel array devices successfully demonstrated applicability in seawater desalination and powering small electronics. This work highlights the aerogel's potential for distributed energy, smart agriculture, and offshore applications, offering a novel biomaterial strategy and feasible pathway for sustainable clean water and green energy co-production.

Multifunctional wound dressings are promising medical materials for various applications. Among them, dressings with antimicrobial activity , high biosafety, and real-time monitoring have attracted considerable research interest. Herein, a biodegradable hemostatic sponge comprising a chitosan skeleton and polyelectrolyte–surfactant complex (CS–PEC) was developed as a versatile wound dressing for wound pH monitoring and inhibition of bacterial infection. CS–PEC sponge with high porosity exhibited satisfactory fluid absorption capacity and biocompatibility, along with antibacterial properties against E. coli and S. aureus . In vivo experiments in rat liver trauma model revealed that wounds treated with the CS–PEC sponge recorded less blood loss (97.1 mg) and shorter hemostasis time (27.2 s) than those treated with commercial gelatin sponge (309.1 mg and 163.5 s, respectively). Furthermore, PECs based on unconventional luminescent molecules ( L -C 16 -Hyp) were used as pH fluorescent indicators, which endowed the sponge with fluorescence-responsive behavior to wound pH changes in the range of 5.0–8.5. Visual images can be captured using a smartphone and converted to RGB color mode values for on-site assessment of wound status. This study sheds light on the design and application of unconventional luminescent materials in wound dressing and provides a smart and effective solution for wound management.

The escalating global freshwater crisis demands urgent development of high-performance desalination technologies. Solar-driven interfacial evaporation (SIE) has emerged as an energy-efficient and environmentally sustainable technology for seawater purification, yet its practical adoption remains hindered by persistent challenges: performance degradation under prolonged operation, and inherent discontinuity of solar energy day and night. Herein, we propose a novel all-day solar-driven interfacial evaporators by solar-thermoelectric cogeneration system, which synergistically integrates a magnetically responsive Janus CS@Fe₃O₄/SA-MF evaporator with thermoelectric generator (TEG) and solar cells. The Janus evaporator fabricated by a facile two-step dip-coating methodology, features engineered asymmetric wettability (contact angle contrast: 152.5° vs. 0°) and exceptional broadband absorption (>99% across 250–2500 nm). Under solar irradiation (1 sun), the system achieved an exceptional evaporation rate of 2.678 kg·m⁻²·h⁻¹ over 10 hours with 96% efficiency, while simultaneously generating electricity according to the Seebeck effect (maximum output: 116 mV, 6.32 mA). Remarkably, due to the Peltier effect, the energy storage of the solar cell enabled sustained nocturnal operation, maintaining an evaporation rate of 1.088 kg·m⁻²·h⁻¹ (7 times of pure water). The synergistic design utilizes solar evaporation during the day and energy conversion at night to effectively overcome the barrier of dependence on sunlight. This work proposed cogeneration strategy opens new avenues for sustainable freshwater production and decentralized energy supply in water-energy nexus applications.

Rubidium and cesium are highly-priced and important rare alkali elements but they always co-exist with large amount of sodium and potassium in a complex system resulting very difficult and expensive to recover. Hexacyanoferrates (MHCFs) is one of the most efficient methods to separate Rb + and Cs + if we don't consider certain drawbacks such as too small particle size and too viscous liquids to be precipitated. In this study, a new kind of hexacyanoferrate, magnesium (II) hexacyanoferrate (RbCs–MgHCF) has been fabricated at room temperature and applied for the first time to recover Rb + and Cs + from high-salty solutions. Compared with traditional divalent transition elements, such as CuHCFs, ZnHCFs, NiHCFs, CoHCFs or FeHCFs, RbCs–MgHCF had excellent precipitation property and large particle size of about 300 nm. The structure, morphology and composition were characterized by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Inductively coupled plasma (ICP), and Energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). The effects of various factors (divalent metal cations, surfactant, Mg 2+ /(Rb + +Cs + ) mole ratio, pH value and titration rate) on the recovery of Rb + and Cs + were explored in 50 mL batch experiments. Scale-up experiment were conducted in 6 and 18 L. Results identified that deposition ratio for Cs + and Rb + were 99% and 95% among pH ranges of 4.0–11.0. The composition of RbCs–MgHCF was confirmed to be Rb 0.61 Cs 1.20 K 0.17 Mg 1.01 Fe(CN) 6 by ICP and EDS and the synthesis mechanism of RbCs–MgHCF is proposed.

For patients receiving organ transplants, monitoring the blood concentration of MPA can provide timely information on whether MPA has reached the effective therapeutic window to better function while reducing the incidence of rejection or adverse reactions. In this study, an electrochemical sensor for the detection of MPA was built using a nanocomposite made of CS-MWCNT and AuNPs. At the same time, the high performance liquid phase (HPLC) method for MPA was established and compared with this sensor. The surface morphology, structure, and roughness of the material on the electrode were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transforms infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and atomic force microscopy (AFM). In addition, the electrochemical behavior of the modified electrode was characterized by cyclic voltammetry (CV) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The standard curve was obtained in blank plasma, not pure buffer solution. The peak current was linearly related to the MPA concentration in the linear range of 0.001–0.1 mM with a detection limit of 0.05 μM and good anti-interference ability. Moreover, the sensor was employed with success for the determination of MPA in rat plasma with good recovery. The electrochemical sensor presented here is eco-friendly, and sensitive, and offers a great possibility for practical applicability.

The sluggish kinetics of oxygen evolution reaction (OER) becomes one of the big obstacles for large-scale electrolytic water splitting. It is urgent to develop low-cost and efficient OER catalyst with fast reaction kinetics and low energy barrier. Herein, a novel OER catalyst of carbon nanotubes (CNT) supported cesium-doped NiFe-layered double hydroxide nanosheets (Cs–NiFe-LDH) is synthesized via a facile one-pot solvothermal reaction. The porous Cs–NiFe-LDH@CNT catalyst delivers an ultralow overpotential of 240 mV @10 mA cm −2 , a small Tafel slope of 56.22 mV dec −1 , and excellent long-term stability. The outstanding catalytic performance is mainly attributed to the synergistic effects of Cs doping and CNT network: the modification of the electronic structure of NiFe-LDH by Cs doping and the conductivity enhancement by CNT network can facilitate the electron transfer and kinetics; the Cs doping and CNT introduction can generate rich active sites; the nanoporous architecture can facilitate the ion diffusion and O 2 bubble release. This work provides a synergistic strategy to design and synthesize transition metal based OER catalysts with low-cost, fast kinetics and good stability for water splitting.

Biomass chitosan (CS) was used as a template, graphitic phase carbon nitride (g-C 3 N 4 ) with high nitrogen content and certain catalytic activity was used as a dopant, and nano-transition metal cobalt (Co) was used as a catalytic center point. The carbon aerogel (C (CS)/g-C 3 N 4 /Co) with a three-dimensional network-like structure was prepared by assembling the three materials through experimental operations such as freeze-drying and high-temperature carbonization. It was demonstrated by scanning and transmission characterization that the CS in the carbon aerogel could provide more active sites for the cobalt nanoparticles, and the doping of graphite-phase carbon nitride as a template dispersed the cobalt nanoparticles and changed the conductivity of the CS. To investigate the catalytic effect of carbon aerogel on ammonium perchlorate (AP), it was investigated by differential thermal analyzer and TG thermal analysis. This carbon aerogel was very effective in catalyzing AP, and the 10 wt% content of the catalyst reduced the AP pyrolysis peak from 703.9 to 595.5 K. And to further investigate the synergistic effect of the three materials, further carbon aerogels such as C (CS)/Co, g-C 3 N 4 /Co were prepared and applied to catalyze AP, and the same ratio reduced the AP pyrolysis peak by 98.1 °C and 97.7 °C. This result indicates a synergistic effect of the assembly of the three materials.

Poly (lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA) nanoparticles are an ideal paclitaxel (PTX)-carrying system due to its biocompatibility and biodegradability. But it possessed disadvantage of drug burst release. In this research, a layer-by-layer deposition of chitosan (CS) and sodium alginate (ALG) was applied to modify the PLGA nanoparticles. The surface charges and morphology of the PLGA, PLGA/CS and PLGA/CS/ALG particles was measured by capillary electrophoresis and SEM and TEM, respectively. The drug encapsulation and loading efficiency were confirmed by ultraviolet spectrophotometer. The nanoparticles were stable and exhibited controlled drug release performance, with good cytotoxicity to human lung carcinoma cells (HepG 2). Cumulatively, our research suggests that this kind of three-layer nanoparticle with LbL-coated shield has great properties to act as a novel drug-loaded system.
