All-inorganic ABX 3 (X = Cl,Br,I) can work as an ionic luminescence material in optoelectronic field. Here Mn-doped CsCdCl 3 hexagonal perovskite powders were synthesized and found to give bright orange-yellow colored emission at room temperature with an astonishingly quantum yield close to 100% at successful incorporation of 2.1% atomic ratio Mn ions. This enhanced emission comes from the local magnetic polaron—combined STEs with ferromagnetic Mn–Mn pair d-d transition ( 4 T 1 → 6 A 1 ) in replacement of Cd dimers in the CsCdCl 3 lattice. Compared with CsCdBr 3, this local magnetic polaron rely on the magnetic couplings, for example, in the Mn ions in the octahedral point and edge alternately connected 1-d chain and between 1-d chains, upon Mn concentrations. The magnetic coupling can modify the optical absorption edge and photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY), and tune emission color from yellow to red. The PLQY maximum occurs at 350 K. The more Mn–Mn FM coupling in denser Mn-X octahedra face-shared chains in the bromides lead to a larger emission redshift than in the chloride. The magnetic coupling in the perovskite out of local Mn connection styles (separated, or point, edge and face shared TM ions) can determine its PLQY and emission color, which is useful in the future material design and optoelectronic or spintronic devices.

Mn nanoparticles (nano-Mn) were successfully synthesized and doped into MgH 2 to improve its de/hydrogenation properties. Compared with MgH 2 , the onset desorption temperature of 10 wt.% nano-Mn modified MgH 2 was decreased to 175 °C and 6.7, 6.5 and 6.1 wt.% hydrogen could be released within 5, 10 and 25 min at 300, 275 and 250 °C, respectively. Besides, the composite started to take up hydrogen at room temperature and absorbed 2.0 wt.% hydrogen within 30 min at low temperature of 50 °C. The hydrogenation activation energy of MgH 2 was reduced from (72.5±2.7) to (18.8±0.2) kJ/mol after doping with 10 wt.% nano-Mn. In addition, the MgH 2 + 10 wt.% nano-Mn composite exhibited superior cyclic property, maintaining 92% initial capacity after 20 cycles.

Developing new phosphor ceramics with higher thermal conductivity is a matter of priority for high power solid-state lighting. Herein, translucent red-emitting AlN : Mn phosphor ceramic with high thermal conductivity (72.37 W m −1 K −1 at 25 °C) and high luminescence thermal stability are successfully fabricated by pressureless sintering at 1800 °C for 3 h. Preparation process, photoluminescence , afterglow and electronic compensation mechanisms were discussed in detail. TEM analysis showed that the tiny grain boundaries are composed of disordered Al 2 O 3 phases. The EPR and TL spectra were used to reveal the O-related trap distribution. The AlN: Mn phosphor ceramics have brightly red afterglow with the longest afterglow time of 88 s and possess high luminescence thermal stability, that is to say, the luminescence intensity at 250 °C preserves 93.7% of that at room temperature . The encapsulated AlN: Mn LED device has a very bright red emission peak at 598 nm with a color purity of about 99%, indicating great application potential in solid-state lighting.

After reaction with permanganate or ferrate, the resulted Mn-loaded and Fe-loaded biochar (MnOx/biochar and FeOx/biochar) exhibited excellent catalytic ozonation activity. O 3 (2.5 mg/L) eliminated 48% of atrazine (ATZ, 5 μM) within 30 min at pH 7.0, while under identical conditions, ozonation efficiency of ATZ increased to 83% and 100% in MnOx/biochar and FeOx/biochar (20 mg/L) heterogeneous catalytic systems, respectively. Radical scavenger experiment and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) analysis confirmed that hydroxyl radical (•OH) was the dominant oxidant. Total Lewis acid sites on MnOx/biochar and FeOx/biochar were 3.5 and 4.1 times of that on the raw biochar, which induced enhanced adsorption of O 3 and its subsequent decomposition into •OH. Electron transfer via redox pairs on MnOx/biochar and FeOx/biochar was observed by cyclic voltammetry scans, which also functioned in the improved catalytic capacity. Degradation pathways of ATZ in MnOx/biochar and FeOx/biochar ozonation systems were proposed, with 34.6% and 44.8% of dechlorination effect accomplished within 30 min of reaction, which was improved by 4.1 and 5.3 times compared to pure ozonation. After 12-hour treatment, acute toxicity of ATZ oxidation products was reduced from 38.3% of pure ozonation system to 14.5% and 6.3% of activated ozonation systems with MnOx/biochar and FeOx/biochar, respectively. Mn-loaded biochar and Fe-loaded biochar have great potential for heterogeneous catalytic ozonation of polluted water.

Two-dimensional all-inorganic halide perovskites (CsPbX3, X = Cl, Br or I) have emerged as prominent materials due to their unique properties, including ultrathin thickness in high surface area for catalysis, good mechanical flexibility for flexible electronics/optoelectronics, and high charge extraction and transport for photodetectors. However, the high luminescence of two-dimensional Mn-doped CsPbX3 that is crucial to light-emitting diodes and display applications remains unfulfilled. The existing synthesis approaches of two-dimensional Mn-doped CsPbX3 usually result in low luminescence because of either low solubility of precursors at low temperature or high concentrated nanocubes at high temperature (e.g. 180 °C). Herein, we report a moderate-temperature and atmospheric approach to synthesize highly luminescent Mn-doped CsPbCl3 nanoplatelets with only 4 monolayers. Different Mn–Pb feed ratios are explored to study the morphology evolution from nanocubes to nanoplatelets and the corresponding influence of two emission peaks at around 400 nm and 600 nm. The photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) of our Mn-doped CsPbCl3 nanoplatelets is up to 53.76%, which is the highest reported value in Mn-doped two-dimensional all-inorganic halide perovskites. The nanoplatelets exhibit excellent stability at room temperature in air (over 60 days). For the first time, both orange-red and warm white light-emitting diodes (LEDs) have been achieved through the nanoplatelets as the color conversion materials. Moreover, flexible composite fluorescent polymer films based on the nanoplatelets are demonstrated with high luminescence and stability (over 6 months), which indicate prominent potential in flexible displays.

Halide perovskites have been employed as photocatalysts for CO2 photoreduction due to their excellent optical properties and unique electronic structure. However, their photocatalytic performance is relatively poor. Herein, we demonstrate a new strategy with Mn-doped CsPb(Br/Cl)3 mixed-halide perovskites as catalysts to enhance the efficiency of CO2 photoreduction. By tuning the content of Mn, a series of CsPb(Br/Cl)3:Mn perovskites are obtained and show high efficiency in CO2 conversion to CO and CH4. For the optimum catalyst sample, especially, the yields of CO and CH4 reach 1917 μmol g−1 and 82 μmol g−1 which are 14.2 and 1.4 times higher than those of CsPbBr3. This work provides new insights into improving the reactivity of perovskites in CO2 photoreduction.

A new 3-dimensional (3D) Mn-based metal organic framework (Mn-MOF) was created through hydrothermal method. This Mn-MOF has the molecular formula of C 10 H 10 Mn 3 N 4 O 12 and possesses orthorhombic symmetry in the Pbcn space group. As the electrode material for supercapacitors, a small amount of Cu powder is added to modify the electrode material (Mn-MOF-Cu), which has higher specific capacitance, better cycle stability and longer cycle life than the Mn-MOF. The specific capacitance of the optimized electrode material can reach 1606 F g −1 at 0.5 A g −1 , which is significantly higher than the original Mn-MOF electrode material (1106 F g −1 ). The key aspect which improves the electrochemical behavior of Mn-MOF-Cu is the introduction of Cu powder as a conductive additive, so that the advantages of the unique 3D structure of the Mn-MOF in terms of electron transport can be better displayed.

The development of efficient oxygen evolution reaction (OER) electrocatalysts is of vital importance for acidic water decomposition. Currently, the rutile structured RuO 2 is considered to be the best candidate and has been studied widely. However, the state-of-the-art rutile RuO 2 still suffers from unsatisfactory activity and stability, while other crystalline structures of Ru-based oxides are seldom reported as OER electrocatalysts. The present work, for the first time, successfully synthesizes orthorhombic (Ru, Mn) 2 O 3 electrocatalyst through cation exchange. The orthorhombic (Ru, Mn) 2 O 3 particles exhibit the outstanding electrocatalysis performance as OER electrocatalyst, showing an ultralow overpotential of 168 mV at 10 mA cm −2 in acidic water and good stability in 40 h of OER. The outstanding electrocatalysis performance is attributed to the distinct Ru d -band structure together with the larger surface density of Ru active site, which reduces the free energy of the rate-limiting step during OER.

Doping engineering of metallic elements is of significant importance in photocatalysis, especially in the transition element range where metals possess empty ‘d’ orbitals that readily absorb electrons and increase carrier concentration. The doping of Mn ions produces dipole interactions that change the local structure of BiOCl, thus increasing the specific surface area of BiOCl and the number of mesoporous distributions, and providing a broader platform and richer surface active sites for catalytic reactions. The combination of Mn doping and metal Bi reduces the forbidden bandwidth of BiOCl, thereby increasing the absorption in the light region and strengthening the photocatalytic ability of BiOCl. The degradation of norfloxacin by Bi/Mn-doped BiOCl can reach 86.5% within 10 min. The synergistic effect of Mn doping and Bi metal can change the internal energy level and increase light absorption simultaneously. The photocatalytic system created by such a dual-technology combination has promising applications in environmental remediation. Keywords:photocatalysis;BiOCl;manganese doping;self-assembly

A new 3D Mn-MOF was prepared with the ligand H 2 L (H 2 L = 5-(pyrazin-2-yl) isophthalic acid) by solvothermal method. Then the Mn-MOF was used as a precursor to synthesize CdS/Mn-MOF composites. The degradation efficiency of Rhodamine B (RhB) by CdS/Mn-MOF (theoretical mass ratio of CdS to Mn-MOF is 1:1) is 98.7% in 60 min, which is 19.7 times and 2.3 times that of Mn-MOF and CdS, respectively. The outstanding performance is owed to the loading of CdS, which significantly broadens the photoresponsive range of Mn-MOF and improves the utilization of visible light. Meanwhile, the heterojunction formed between Mn-MOF and CdS can effectively inhibit the recombination of photogenerated electrons and holes. Furthermore, the photocurrent intensity of CdS/Mn-MOF(50) is higher than that of Mn-MOF and CdS. The photocatalytic performance of CdS/Mn-MOF(50) also exhibits excellent stability and reusability . In addition, the enhanced mechanism of photocatalytic activity was investigated systematically.

This study aimed to regulate the band structure and enhance the reduction ability of CdS by substituting it with Mn 2+ . Subsequently, this nano MnCdS solid solution was anchored on the surface of truncated octahedral Cu 2 O through a simple hydrothermal process, forming an S-scheme heterojunction at the interface between MnCdS and Cu 2 O. Equilibrating the Fermi level at the MnCdS/Cu 2 O heterojunction led to spontaneous diffusion of electrons in MnCdS to Cu 2 O, generating an internal electric field that drove the recombination of electrons in the conduction band (CB) of Cu 2 O and holes in the valence band (VB) of MnCdS. Consequently, this process preserved the powerful photogenerated electrons in the CB of MnCdS, facilitating robust photocatalytic hydrogen evolution . The MnCdS/Cu 2 O exhibited a photocatalytic hydrogen evolution rate of 66.3 mmol g −1 h −1 , which was 3.4- and 54.3-times higher than that of MnCdS (19.4 mmol g −1 h −1 ) and Cu 2 O (1.2 mmol g −1 h −1 ), respectively. This study elucidates advanced S-scheme heterojunction catalyst architectures for photocatalytic hydrogen production.

In this work, a facile one-pot two-step mechanochemical technology is firstly developed to prepare Fe/Mn-based binary hexacyanoferrates (Na x (FeMn)[Fe(CN) 6 ] y , FeMnHCF)/carbon composites by coupling in-situ construction of the conductive network and solid-state reaction. It is found that construction of hierarchical conductive network is favorable to improve the rate performance and cycling stability, with an 80.5% capacity retention over 1000 cycles at 360 mA/g. Furthermore, the capacity attenuation and stabilization mechanisms are investigated by GITT, EIS , and ex-situ XRD . The capacity attenuation in the early stage can be attributed to the large charge transfer resistance, while in the latter stage the long cycling stability is ascribed to the solid solution reaction with the mitigated stress distortion during the desodiation/sodiation process. Overall, the proposed mechanochemical synthesis of Fe/Mn-based binary hexacyanoferrate shows great potential in environmental friendliness and cost-saving production as well as comprehensive product performance.
