MoS 2 is a promising gas sensing material due to its low resistance and low operating temperature. But the sensitivity of MoS 2 is limited by fast electron-hole complexation. In this work, phosphomolybdic acid (PMo 12 ) was used as precursor. After sulfurizing by one-step hydrothermal method , the generated MoS 2 and unspent PMo 12 can in-situ form MoS 2 /PMo 12 composite nanospheres . The gas sensing performances of the composite were comprehensively investigated. By adjusting hydrothermal reaction temperature, optimized sensitivity (MoS 2 /PMo 12 -240) to NO 2 gas can be gained. At a low operating temperature of 80 °C, the optimized response value to 100 ppm NO 2 gas is 2.466, which is higher than most reported MoS 2 -based NO 2 sensors. Moreover, MoS 2 /PMo 12 -240 composite also exhibits good selectivity, repeatability, long-term stability and humidity resistance. The mechanism of sensing performance enhancement was also analyzed and discussed. As a semiconductor-like material, PMo 12 can form heterojunction together with MoS 2 . The valence band of PMo 12 can capture the holes in MoS 2 and effectively suppresses electron-hole complexation. Thus the sensing performance can be improved. This work provides a new strategy for designing and constructing high performance sulfide composite gas sensors by introducing POMs .

The capture of radioactive gaseous iodine is essential for the sustainable development of nuclear energy and the long-term safe supply of nuclear fuel. However, the presence of nitrogen oxides in the exhaust gas generated during spent fuel reprocessing poses significant challenges to the stability of iodine adsorbents. It is crucial to consider the impact of NOx on the structure and adsorption performance of the materials. We report here the development of an aluminum-based metal–organic framework (MOF), CAU-1, engineered for efficient iodine capture. Synthesized through a cost-effective and straightforward method, CAU-1 exhibits excellent structural stability and robust adsorption performance, with a maximum iodine vapor adsorption capacity of 1277.18 mg/g at 130 °C and methyl iodide adsorption capacity of 533.10 mg/g, highlighting its potential for efficient iodine vapor removal. Notably, CAU-1 retains its structural integrity and iodine adsorption performance even in the presence of 5 % NO 2 , maintaining high adsorption capacities for I 2 (1129.41 mg/g) and CH 3 I (436.79 mg/g). Mechanistic analysis revealed the key role of the –NH 2 group in the iodine adsorption process. Additionally, co-adsorption studies with I 2 and NO 2 showed that CAU-1 can still capture iodine in the form of both I 2 and I 3 - in the presence of NO 2 . This study illustrates the potential of CAU-1 as an effective industrial adsorbent for removing iodine from NO 2 -containing gas streams.

In this work, we realized a room-temperature nitrogen dioxide (NO 2 ) gas sensor based on a platinum (Pt)-loaded nanoporous gallium nitride (NP-GaN) sensing material using the thermal reduction method and coreduction with the catalysis of polyols. The gas sensor gained excellent sensitivity to NO 2 at a concentration range of 200 ppm to 100 ppb, benefiting from the loading of Pt nanoparticles, and exhibited a short response time (22 s) and recovery time (170 s) to 100 ppm of NO 2 at room temperature with excellent selectivity to NO 2 compared with other gases. This phenomenon was attributed to the spillover effect and the synergic electronic interaction with semiconductor materials of Pt, which not only provided more electrons for the adsorption of NO 2 molecules but also occupied effective sites, causing poor sites for other gases. The low detection limit of Pt/NP-GaN was 100 ppb, and the gas sensor still had a fast response 70 d after fabrication. Besides, the gas-sensing mechanism of the gas sensor was further elaborated to determine the reason leading to its improved properties. The significant spillover impact and oxygen dissociation of Pt provided advantages to its synergic electronic interaction with semiconductor materials, leading to the improvement of the gas properties of gas sensors.

Nitric oxides emission, especially nitrogen dioxide (NO 2 ), has aroused a series of environment and ecological problems and damaged human health, it is of great significance to monitor the NO 2 concentration in the atmosphere. However, developing the real-time NO 2 sensors remains challenge due to high working temperature, limited sensitivity at the low temperature and poor selectivity. Hence, we designed and synthesized the SnO 2 -M-O V - T sensors through thermal treating the Sn metal organic frameworks (Sn-MOF), and the prepared SnO 2 -M-O V - T sensors exhibits the excellent sensing performance under a low operating temperature. The response value of SnO 2 -M-O V -300 sensor for NO 2 could reach 11677 at 120 °C, that is 100 times than pristine SnO 2 , and the response value of 170 was also achieved even at the low temperature of 50 °C. In addition, the SnO 2 -M-O V -300 sensor also showed the good cyclicity and stability for NO 2 detection. Density functional theory results show that both the oxygen vacancy and Sn atom act as the adsorption and active sites during the process of NO 2 gas sensing, yet the role of oxygen vacancy prefers the adsorption and charge transfer for NO 2 than of Sn atom. The high-performance SnO 2 -M-O V - T gas sensors display a broad application prospect in the real-time monitoring NO 2 industrial field.

In this work, the ZnO microsphere is prepared by hydrothermal method and modified with different concentrations of Eu. The morphology of ZnO:Eu sample shows flower-like microspheres with many nanosheets. The gas performance of ZnO:Eu microsphere is investigated for detecting NO 2 . Compared with pure ZnO, the response of ZnO:2 % Eu sensor is increased by 8 times, and the optimal operating temperature of that is decreased to 130 °C. Especially, the gas sensing properties of ZnO:2 % Eu sensor is enhanced under UV excitation. The recovery time of ZnO:Eu sensor is reduced by 1200 s, and the response is increased by 3.6 times under UV excitation. The above results show an increase in sensor response due to doping Eu and UV excitation. At last, the possible gas mechanism of ZnO:Eu is discussed with and without UV excitation. This finding provides important guidance for UV-assisted sensors to enhance NO 2 response.

Along with the rapid development of modern industry and the continuous improvement of environmental protection standards, it was imperative to detect harmful gases. In this study, the SnO/SnO 2 core–shell homojunction was successfully prepared by the vapor-oxidate-solid (VOS) method and a simple heating experimental device with Sn-bearing e-waste as raw material. The gradient oxidation of SnO was researched by detecting the crystal structure, micro-morphology and surface chemical state at different temperatures. The SnO/SnO 2 -based sensor was used for the gas sensitivity test of NO 2 . At 150 °C, high response value, response time and recovery time of SnO/SnO 2 homojunction to 50 ppm NO 2 were 421, 39 s and 27 s, respectively, which had better sensing performance compared with commercial SnO 2 . Moreover, the mechanism analysis indicated that homojunction and oxygen vacancies were important reasons for improving the gas-sensing performance of SnO/SnO 2 homojunction. It provided an effective strategy for recycling Sn resources and promoted the application prospect of SnO/SnO 2 homojunction in the NO 2 sensing field.

The detection of air pollutant nitrogen dioxide (NO 2 ) is of great importance arising from its great harm to the ecological environment and human health. However, the detection range of most NO 2 sensors is ppm-level, and it is still challenging to achieve lower concentration (ppb-level) NO 2 detection. Herein, 2D tin diselenide nanoflakes decorated with 1D zinc oxide nanowires (SnSe 2 /ZnO) heterojunctions were first reported by facile hydrothermal and ultra-sonication methods. The response of the fabricated SnSe 2 /ZnO sensor enhances 3.41 times on average compared with that of pure SnSe 2 sensor to 50–150 ppb NO 2 with a high detection sensitivity (22.57 ppm -1 ) at room temperature. In addition, the SnSe 2 /ZnO sensor has complete recovery, negligible cross-sensitivity, and small relative standard deviation (6.98%) during the 1 month sensing test, which can meet the requirements for NO 2 detection in environmental monitoring. The enhanced NO 2 sensing performance can be attributed to the n-n heterojunction constructed between SnSe 2 and ZnO. The as-prepared sensor based on SnSe 2 /ZnO hybrid significantly promotes the development of the low detection limit of the NO 2 sensor at room temperature.

A novel amperometric NO 2 sensor was fabricated using a nanostructured La 0.8 Sr 0.2 MnO 3-δ (nano-LSM) sensing electrode (SE) and a Ce 0.8 Gd 0.2 O 1.9 (CGO) electrolyte. The focus of this study was to extend the electrochemical active site at the three-phase boundary (TPB) and reduce the interfacial resistance by introducing a hybrid ion/electron conducting porous layer (CGO +LSM) between the SE and the electrolyte. By adjusting the amount of LSM, the effects of the LSM/CGO ratio on the microstructure and sensitivity of the sensor were investigated. The results showed that the addition of LSM did not change the porous structure of the CGO porous skeleton, but the number of pores decreased with the increase of LSM addition, while the size of pores increased with increasing the amount of LSM added. The nano-LSM was prepared in-situ into the porous skeleton by the impregnation technology, which was highly dispersed in the porous skeleton, having reached the bottom of the porous layer with a particle size of less than 100 nm. The sensor with a mixed conductor as the porous layer effectively improved the sensitivity of the sensor. Analysis by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and the distribution of relaxation techniques (DRT) demonstrated that the addition of the electronic conductor LSM into the CGO porous layer significantly reduced the diffusion resistance of the sensor and enhanced the oxygen exchange performance, thus improving the response performance of the sensor. The sensor with 30wt% LSM/CGO porous layer had good reproducibility and excellent stability. The sensor had good anti-interference performance against co-existing CH 4 , CO 2 , H 2 , NO, and NH 3 , with good linearity between sensor response values and NO 2 concentrations over different O 2 concentrations and relative humidity (RH).

In order to achieve high recovery for low concentration NO 2 gas detection, the α-6T OTFT gas sensors were fabricated by inducing growth method. The effect of interface inducing layer and active layer thickness on the sensor performance was studied. It was found that the p -6P inducing layer improved the surface properties of SiO 2 substrates and the α-6T films were manipulated to favorable film formation on p -6P interface layer. The α-6T crystal grains can be fused well and the large-area continuous crystal films were obtained. By the thickness modulation of α-6T active films, the sensors can achieve the detection to the low concentration of 1 ppm to NO 2 gas and exhibit the rapid recovery of 28 s. And the sensitivity was as high as 998% / ppm and the responsivity was up to 2645% for 1 ppm NO 2 gas. The formation of ultra-thin films on surface substrates is an effective method, which can induce the growth of organic semiconductor films and obtain the high-property devices.

Green hydrothermal synthesis of flower-like WSe 2 using biodegradable ascorbic acid as the reducing agent. • Vacuum sintering at 450 ∘ C improved the crystallinity, surface activity, and charge transport of WSe 2 enhancing NO 2 sensing. • Optimal 3% Pd decoration enabled catalytic/interfacial sensitization, achieving a response of 2.26 toward 16 ppm NO 2 with good selectivity and stability. Although WSe 2 has shown great potential for NO 2 sensing, its development remains challenging because conventional hydrothermal synthesis often relies on hazardous reducing agents such as NaBH 4 and N 2 H 4 ⋅ H 2 O, which may cause rapid H 2 release, toxicity, and environmentally harmful byproducts. In addition, the sensing performance of WSe 2 is often limited by insufficient active sites and inefficient charge transfer. Herein, flower-like WSe 2 nanostructures were synthesized via a one-step hydrothermal route using benign, biodegradable, eco-friendly, and cost-effective C 6 H 8 O 6 as the reducing agent. The obtained WSe 2 was vacuum-sintered at the optimized temperature of 450 ∘ C and further decorated with Pd nanoparticles to enhance NO 2 sensing performance. The optimized 3% Pd-WSe 2 -450 ∘ C sensor exhibited a response ( R a / R g ) of 2.26 toward 16 ppm NO 2 at an operating temperature of 114 ∘ C, with response and recovery times of 20 and 190 s, respectively. The enhanced sensing performance is attributed to the synergistic effects of Pd decoration, improved crystallinity, abundant surface oxygen species, and efficient interfacial charge modulation. This work demonstrates a Pd-modified WSe 2 -based NO 2 gas sensor, where green synthesis, vacuum sintering, and interfacial Pd engineering synergistically enhance the sensing performance. Developing a strategy to tailor the morphology and sensing properties of CuO nanosheets array for low-temperature, ppb-level selective Nitrogen dioxide (NO2) detection is of great significance as it represents a key step toward addressing challenges related to air quality improvement, human health protection, and environmental sustainability. In this work, CuO nanosheets were synthesized via a seed-induced hydrothermal in-situ method, which lead to a small thickness of 16.72 nm, and a high concentration of oxygen vacancies. The as-prepared CuO nanosheets exhibited a high response of 4.65 with short response and recovery times of 59 s and 72 s, respectively, toward 100 ppb NO2 at 75℃. The sensing mechanism was investigated using electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR), and in situ diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy (DRIFTS). Density functional theory (DFT) calculations were employed to elucidate the selectivity of NO2 over interfering gases. The in-situ grown CuO nanosheets (comparable to the Debye length) provided expanded reaction interfaces and efficient electron transport channels upon exposure to NO2, which facilitated enhanced interactions between the gas molecules and active sites, improving the sensing response. Moreover, the high concentration of oxygen vacancies acted as reactive centers that effectively reduced the reaction energy barrier, enabling ppb-level, highly sensitive, and selective NO2 detection at low operating temperatures. Overall, this work provides a new material for gas sensing, which promises advancements in high-performance, low-temperature NO2 sensors
