In the present work, a remarkable combination of non-thermal plasma and photocatalyst was developed to widen the operating temperature window of selective catalytic reduction(SCR) of NO x with CH 4 , especially to improve the low-temperature removal efficiency of NO x . It was shown that the operating temperature window was significantly widened. Among all the catalysts prepared, 1%Ag 2 O/TiO 2 showed the highest catalytic activity for NO x removal due to the utilization of near ultraviolet light. The conversion of NO x to N 2 over the in-plasma 1%Ag 2 O/TiO 2 photocatalyst at 60 and 300 °C could achieve 31.8% and 53.0%, respectively. The combination mode of plasma and catalyst affected NO x removal efficiency greatly, the in-plasma catalysis outperformed the post-plasma catalytic mode remarkably, signifying the contribution of photocatalytic processes on the catalysts. Meanwhile, the characterizations of the catalyst demonstrated that the morphology and structure of the Ag 2 O/TiO 2 catalyst were unchanged throughout the non-thermal plasma and photocatalytic processes, implying the superior stability of the catalyst.

As a mainstream moderate-high temperature (250–420 °C) particulate denitrification catalyst, V 2 O 5 -WO 3 /TiO 2 (VWT) is not applicable to low-temperature (60–150 °C) iron ore sintering flue gas after semi dry/wet desulfurization. In order to improve the NH 3 -deNO x performance of the VWT particle catalyst at low temperatures, a series of powder VWT denitrification catalysts doped with different content of RuO 2 (R-VWT) prepared by the wet co-impregnation method were researched, and found that the particulate catalyst service temperature (about 100 % NO conversion) is lowered from 225 °C (VWT) to below 175 °C by doping 0.5 % RuO 2 . In addition, a series of characterizations indicate that the doped RuO 2 enhances the redox performance of R-VWT and promotes the generation of more surface active intermediate monodentate nitrate, and accelerates the low-temperature surface SCR transient reaction rate.

In recent years, Fe-based catalysts for the selective catalytic reduction of NO with NH 3 (NH 3 -SCR) have been attracting more attention. In this work, a novel Fe-Sb binary metal oxide catalyst was synthesized using the ethylene glycol assisted co-precipitation method and was characterized using a series of techniques. It was found that the catalyst with a molar ratio of 7:3 (Fe:Sb) displayed the best NH 3 -SCR activity with 100% conversion of NO x (nitrogen oxides) over a wide temperature window and with good resistance to H 2 O + SO 2 at 250 °C. The X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and in situ diffused reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy ( in situ DRIFTS) of NO x adsorption results suggested that strong electron interactions between Fe and Sb in Fe-O-Sb species existed and electrons of Sb could be transferred to Fe through the 2Fe 3+ + Sb 3+ ↔ 2Fe 2+ + Sb 5+ redox cycle. The introduction of Sb significantly improved the adsorption behaviour of NO x species on the Fe 0.7 Sb 0.3 O x surface, which benefitted the adsorption/transformation of NO x , thereby facilitating the NH 3 -SCR reaction. In addition, the Fe 0.7 Sb 0.3 O x catalyst demonstrated a good tolerance of H 2 O and SO 2 , since the decomposition of NH 4 HSO 4 on the catalyst surface was promoted by the introduction of Sb.

Simultaneous elimination of CO and NO x remains a formidable challenge, largely due to the competitive oxidation reactions present in industrial emission streams. Although much prior research has concentrated on enhancing performance at low temperatures, limited catalytic activity in O 2 -containing environments has recently gained attention as a pressing issue. Herein, we developed an Ir/Si 2 Ce 1 O x catalyst via a SiO 2 -induced structural regulation strategy, which promotes the fine dispersion of CeO 2 and enables the strong anchoring of Ir species. This rational design facilitates the preferential exposure of the active Ir 0 (111) crystal plane, a key factor associated with optimized surface adsorption behavior. Furthermore, the abundant Ir-O-Ce interfaces in this unique architecture induce significant electron transfer from Ce to Ir, thereby stabilizing the metallic Ir 0 . Concurrently, the activated lattice oxygen at the Ir-O-Ce interfaces facilitates the formation of the key nitrate intermediates. Consequently, the catalyst demonstrates outstanding NO reduction and CO oxidation efficiency at 250 °C under oxygen-containing conditions. Our findings highlight a viable approach for stabilizing Ir 0 through tailored Ir Ce interactions, offering a pathway to robust CO-selective catalytic reduction (CO-SCR) performance in an oxidative environment.

Magnetic poly(styrene–glycidyl methacrylate) porous microspheres (MPPM) with high magnetic contents were prepared by surfactant reverse micelles and emulsion polymerization of monomers, in which the well-dispersed Fe 3 O 4 nanoparticles were modified by polyethylene glycol (PEG) and oleic acid (OA) respectively. The characterizations showed that both of the OA–MPPM and the PEG–MPPM were ferromagnetic, however, the OA–MPPM was used to immobilize the bacteria for more advantages. Therefore, the effects of monomer ratio, surfactant, crosslinker and amount of Fe 3 O 4 on the structure, morphology and magnetic contents of the OA–MPPM were investigated. Then, the OA–MPPM was utilized to immobilize Klebsiella sp. FD-3, an iron-reducing bacterium for Fe(III)EDTA reduction applied in NO x removal. Compared with free bacteria, the immobilized FD-3 showed a better tolerance to the unbeneficial pH and temperature conditions.

Elimination of NO x from the non-electric industrial boilers has become priority under the effective implementation of ultra-low emissions. A series of Ce-promoted FeVO 4 catalysts with improved acidity and reducibility have been synthesized in this work. Thereinto, 10Ce/FeVO 4 exhibited an optimum low-temperature performance with 90% of NO x conversion and 95% of N 2 selectivity at 200–300 °C which was kept nearly unchanged with different concentrations of SO 2 ranging from 50 ppm to 200 ppm, showing a superior sulfur tolerance. An array of well-designed experiments has demonstrated that Ce mainly existed as CeVO 4 under a low doping content (1 wt%) on FeVO 4 , which could efficiently increase the amount of acid sites. With more cerium (5–12 wt%) loading on FeVO 4 , the appearance of CeO 2 further resulted in a strong interaction between cerium species and ion species, thus significantly improving the low-temperature catalytic activity . Therefore, the optimum coexistence of CeVO 4 and CeO 2 over 10Ce/FeVO 4 modulated its Brønsted acid and enhanced its redox circulation of Fe 3+ species. Moreover, the NH 3 -SCR reaction pathways of 10Ce/FeVO 4 were broadened from only Eley-Rideal to both Eley-Rideal and Langmiur-Hinshelwood mechanisms after Ce loading on FeVO 4 catalyst. With the presence of SO 2 , the S O/S-O deriving from the generated Ce 2 (SO 4 ) 3 and NH 4 HSO 4 increased the Brønsted acid sites, inducing a satisfying SO 2 tolerance of 10Ce/FeVO 4 catalyst, although the Langmiur-Hinshelwood pathway of 10Ce/FeVO 4 was immediately cut off due to the competitive adsorption of gaseous SO 2 and NO x . This work exemplifies a promising strategy for developing an ideal low-temperature NH 3 -SCR catalyst with good SO 2 resistance.

Adopting effective methods to identify clearly the active surface sites is crucial to engineer high-performance catalysts. To develop cost-effective and applicable NH 3 -SCR catalysts, the distribution states of Ag on HZSM-5 support have been identified by XRD and XPS extrapolation methods. As quantified, Ag dispersion on HZSM-5 has a threshold of 0.12 mmol Ag/100 m 2 . Above the threshold, bigger Ag 0 particles with better capability to activate O 2 and NO x molecules can be formed, thus achieving Ag/ZSM-5 catalysts with much better reaction performance below 300 °C. In contrast, below the threshold, Ag is mainly present in the form of highly dispersed nano-clusters/micro-crystallites, and partly as Ag + ions, thus being unfavorable to the reaction at low temperature. DFT calculation has testified that the aggregated Ag 0 particles with bigger sizes (>5 nm) have weaker interfacial interaction with the support, thus showing better capability to activate the reactant molecules. The optimal NH 3 -SCR performance is achieved on 8% Ag/ZSM-5 with a mean Ag size of 8.6 nm and a Ag 0 /Ag + ratio of 1.72, on which 100% NO conversion with a wide window from 250 to 400 °C can be achieved with H 2 assistance. In conclusion, both the Ag particle size and Ag 0 /Ag + ratio are the two main factors determining NH 3 -SCR performance on Ag/ZSM-5 catalysts.

Urea is applied as an ammonia source for SCR in diesel vehicles, but incomplete urea decomposition may lead to insufficiency of NH3 and deposition of solid by-products. To improve the urea decomposition activity of Cu-SSZ-13 SCR catalysts, Cu-SSZ-13 was combined with TiO2 nanoparticles by a simple impregnation method. TiO2/Cu-SSZ-13 composites exhibited lowered decomposition temperatures of urea and related solid by-products. Thus, the composited catalysts showed higher NOx conversion and a lower amount of urea-related deposits than unmodified Cu-SSZ-13 in a simulated urea deposition scenario. The superiority of the urea decomposition activity of the composited catalysts was maintained upon 800 °C hydrothermal aging due to stabilized anatase over the catalysts according to XRD and Raman spectroscopy. H2-TPR, UV-vis, and STEM revealed the formation of Cu–Ti–O species due to Cu–Ti interactions, which was adverse to SCR activity, but no extra hydrothermal aging effect was observed on the composited catalysts compared with unmodified Cu-SSZ-13. This work showed the potential to improve the low-temperature urea-SCR performance of Cu-SSZ-13 via TiO2 modification.
