RMgPO 4 :Mn 2+ (R = Li, Na, and K) phosphors are synthesized by a solid-state reaction method in air. The crystal structures and luminescence properties are investigated. A broad emission band peaking at 638 nm of RMgPO 4 :Mn 2+ (R = Li and Na) phosphors with excitation 408 nm is observed in the range of 550–800 nm owing to the 4 T 1 (G) → 6 A 1 transition of the Mn 2+ ion. KMgPO 4 :Mn 2+ phosphor with excitation 416 nm shows a broad emission band peaking at 658 nm in the range of 550–800 nm owing to the 4 T 1 (G) → 6 A 1 transition of the Mn 2+ ion. The optimal Mn 2+ ion concentration in RMgPO 4 :Mn 2+ (R = Li, Na, and K) phosphors is about 5 mol%. The lifetimes of RMg 0.95 PO 4 :0.05Mn 2+ (R = Li, Na, and K) phosphors is ~6.21, 6.03, and 6.28 ms, respectively. The luminous mechanism is explained by Tanabe-Sugano diagram of Mn 2+ ion.

Sodium titanate nanotube (Na-TNT) sample has been prepared by a hydrothermal method using TiO 2 and NaOH as starting materials and then calcined at 400 °C in air. X-ray diffraction and N 2 adsorption–desorption tests have been employed to characterize its crystal and pore structure . The Na-TNT can be used as the negative electrode for electric energy storage devices using Na + -based organic electrolytes. The charge storage mechanism at the Na-TNT negative electrode has been investigated by electrochemical tests (galvanostatic charge–discharge, cyclic voltammetry , etc.), ex-situ XRD and HRTEM measurements. The electric energy storage devices of Na-TNT/graphite have been constructed and the influence of graphite/Na-TNT mass ratio on their performance has been studied.

RE–Fe–B–Na (RE = Nd–Er) colloidal nanoparticles are prepared by high-temperature solution synthesis. These nanoparticles are ultra-small monodisperse, air-stable and amorphous, whose particle size and magnetic property are characterized by transmission electron microscope and superconducting quantum interference device. Taking Nd–Fe–B–Na nanoparticle as an example, it is found that the particle size can be controlled in less than 7 nm. Besides, the magnetic properties of RE–Fe–B–Na colloidal nanoparticles can be compared for different rare earth elements. Based on the bulk ferromagnetic coupling, other possible magnetic coupling mechanism is discussed.

The Fe 3+ -modified 1, 8-naphthalic anhydride (Fe-NA) was prepared, and thereafter successfully grafted on the mesoporous surface of bimodal mesopores material (BMMs) by post-synthesis method. The influence of various parameters, including amount of Fe 3+ ion, various solvents, different concentrations and loadings of FC-NA on the fluorescence behavior of resultant hybrid materials (FC-NA grafted BMMs) was investigated, and then its fluorescence properties were compared to the parent FC-NA. Meanwhile, their structural properties and photoluminescence performances were investigated using various characterizations XRD , TEM , SEM, SAXS , FT-IR, TGA, ICP-OES, elemental analysis , N 2 adsorption-desorption isotherms, and fluorescence measurement. The results showed that the mesoporous structural integrity was remained intact after introduction of FC-NA in the mesoporous channels of APTES-BMMs. Particularly, SAXS patterns revealed the mass fractal dimension of the hybrid FC-NA@BMMs were gradually increased with increasing loaded amount of FC-NA, and resulted in the uneven distribution and self-similarity fractal features. The fluorescence profiles exhibited the occurrence of red-shifts and then blue-shifts of characteristic peak with increasing grafted FC-NA amount. These shifts demonstrated a highly aggregation on the amine-modified mesoporous surface of APTES-BMMs when the obtained mass ratio of FC-NA/AP-BMMs was lower than 0.2, whereas a uniform monodispersion distribution was observed when the mass ratio got higher than 0.2. The obtained functionalized mesoporous materials with enhanced fluorescence intensity have a potential application in drug sustained/controlled delivery systems.

Layered transition metal oxides have great potential as cathode materials for sodium ion batteries, but some limitations like structural instability and poor rate performance restricts its further application. To overcome the above issues, a simultaneously modified P2-type cathode of Na0.85Li0.12Ni0.22Mn0.66O2 with 1% weight TiO2 coating (NLNMO-1%wt TiO2) based on doping and coating approaches was prepared by high-temperature solid-state reaction and liquid phase coating. This new strategy reduces the relative content of Mn3+, which suppresses the Jahn-Teller effect and enhanes the structural stability. The as-prepared cathode shows improved rate capability, with a high reversible capacity of 111.4 mAh g−1 at 1 C and a capacity retention of 94.5% after 100 cycles. At 5 C, it maintains a capacity of 87.1 mAh g−1 at 5 C with capacity retention of 81.8% after 400 cycles. Additionally, it provides a stable CEI film, reducing side reactions and electrode pulverization. which could be confirmed by scanning electron microscopy and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy. Overall, this synergistic modification strategy provides a pathway for improving the electrochemical performance of layered oxide cathode materials for sodium-ion batteries.

Layered composite oxide materials with O3/P2 biphasic crystallographic structure typically demonstrate a combination of high capacities of the O3 phase and high operation voltages of the P2 phase. However, their practical applications are seriously obstructed by difficulties in thermodynamic phase regulation, complicated electrochemical phase transition, and unsatisfactory cycling life. Herein, we propose an efficient structural evolution strategy from biphase to monophase of Na 0.766+ x Li x Ni 0.33− x Mn 0.5 Fe 0.1 Ti 0.07 O 2 through Li + substitution. The role of Li + substitution not only simplifies the unfavorable phase transition by altering the local coordination of transition metal (TM) cations but also stabilizes the cathode–electrolyte interphase to prevent the degradation of TM cations during battery cycling. As a result, the thermodynamically robust O3-Na 0.826 Li 0.06 Ni 0.27 Mn 0.5 Fe 0.1 Ti 0.07 O 2 cathode delivers a high capacity of 139.4 mAh g −1 at 0.1 C and shows prolonged cycling life at high rates, with capacity retention of 81.6% at 5 C over 500 cycles. This work establishes a solid relationship between the thermodynamic structure evolution and electrochemistry of layered cathode materials, contributing to the development of long-life sodium-ion batteries.

Organic materials have garnered significant attention due to abundant resources, recyclability, and ease of design. However, they are hampered in practical applications by poor conductivity and high solubility. Herein, a lithium metal battery is developed in this work, utilizing the cathode material polyanthraquinonyl sulfide (PAQS) doped with a trace of NaCl. Additionally, the ionic liquid lithium bis-trifluoromethanesulfonimide and lithium metal as the anode. Physicochemical characterizations utilizing Raman spectroscopy and X-photoelectron spectroscopy indicate that both Na + and Li + migrate within the cell, forming a dual-cation battery. In addition, the battery displays exceptional rate performance with a capacity of 86 mAh·g −1 at 20 C, which is more than triples the capacity without NaCl, and has excellent cycling performance. Moreover, it retains 98 % capacity after 1000 cycles at 2 C with no significant degradation. This research offers an innovative strategy for developing a high-performance double-cation battery.

An electrostatic engineering strategy is proposed to regulate the Na + coordinated structure by employing a fluorinated metal–organic framework as an electron-rich model.
The abundant electron-rich F sites can accelerate Na-salt disassociation while forcing anions into Na + coordination structure though electrostatic effect to weaken the Na–O coordination, thus promoting rapid Na + transport.
Anion-rich weak Na + solvation structure is achieved and contributes to a highly stable inorganic-rich solid–electrolyte interphase, significantly enhances the interfacial stability toward Na anode.
Impressively, Na/Na symmetric cell delivered stable Na plating/stripping over 2500 h, and the assembled all-solid-state sodium metal batteries demonstrated stable performance of over 2000 cycles under high rate of 2 C with capacity retention nearly 100%.

Solid-state sodium metal batteries utilizing inorganic solid electrolytes (SEs) hold immense potentials such as intrinsical safety, high energy density, and environmental sustainability. However, the interfacial inhomogeneity/instability at the anode-SE interface usually triggers the penetration of sodium dendrites into the electrolyte, leading to short circuit and battery failure. Herein, confronting with the original nonuniform and high-resistance solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) at the Na-Na 3 Zr 2 Si 2 PO 12 interface, an oxygen-regulated SEI innovative approach is proposed to enhance the cycling stability of anode-SEs interface, through a spontaneous reaction between the metallic sodium (containing trace amounts of oxygen) and the Na 3 Zr 2 Si 2 PO 12 SE. The oxygen-regulated spontaneous SEI is thin, uniform, and kinetically stable to facilitate homogenous interfacial Na + transportation. Benefitting from the optimized SEI, the assembled symmetric cell exhibits an ultra-stable sodium plating/stripping cycle for over 6600 h under a practical capacity of 3 mAh cm −2 . Quasi-solid-state batteries with Na 3 V 2 (PO 4 ) 3 cathode deliver excellent cyclability over 500 cycles at a rate of 0.5 C (1 C = 117 mA cm −2 ) with a high capacity retention of 95.4%. This oxygen-regulated SEI strategy may offer a potential avenue for the future development of high-energy-density solid-state metal batteries.

Na-ion batteries (NIBs) are sustainable alternatives to Li-ion technologies due to the abundant and widely-distributed resources. However, the most promising cathode materials of NIBs so far, O3 layered oxides, suffer from serious air instability issues, which significantly increases the manufactural cost and carbon footprint because of the long-term use of dry rooms. While some feasible strategies are proposed via case studies, universal design strategies for air-stable cathodes are yet to be established. Herein, the air degradation mechanisms of O3 cathodes are investigated via combined first-principles and experimental approaches, with bond dissociation energy proposed as an effective descriptor for predicting air stability. Experimental validations in various unary, binary, and ternary O3 cathodes confirm that the air stability can indeed be effectively improved via simple compositional design. Guided by the predictive model, the designed material can sustain 30-day air-storage without structural or electrochemical degradation. It is calculated that such air-stable cathodes can significantly reduce both energy consumption (≈4 100 000 kWh) and carbon footprint (≈2200-ton CO 2 ) annually for a 2 GWh NIBs manufactory. Therefore, the fundamental understandings and universal design strategy presented open an avenue for rational materials design of NIBs toward both elemental and manufactural sustainability.

The severe parasitic interface reaction and dendrite growth retard the practical applications of all-solid-state (ASS) Na batteries with sulfide solid electrolytes (SEs). Here, a novel composite SE is proposed, with a high ionic conductivity, composed of Na 3 SbS 4 (NSS) and oxysulfide glass. The study reveals that the P 2 S 7- a O a and PS 4- a O a units in oxysulfide play various roles: The former is deoxidized to release free O ions, which reacts with the anode via migrating to form oxides, favoring an improved interface stability. The latter is highly stable upon cycling, thereby maintaining an ion transport network. Meanwhile, NSS acts as a dendrite predator via reacting with penetrated Na. These advantages enable the resulting ASS Na battery with superior long-term cycling performance at a high current density at room temperature, one of the best results so far. This discovery sheds light on innovative advanced SE materials through an oxysulfide-based composite design.

Aqueous hybrid Na–Zn ion batteries (ASZIBs) are promising for large-scale energy storage due to their low cost and potential for high output voltage. However, most ASZIBs show limited discharge voltage (<2.0 V) and capacity (<100 mAh g –1 ) due to inefficient usage of the dual ions. In this study, a novel large-electrochemical-window “water-in-gel” electrolyte based CuHCF-CNT/Zn Na–Zn hybrid battery is proposed, which achieves a high extraction voltage of Na ion (2.1 V vs Zn/Zn 2+ ), together with a large discharge specific capacity (260 mAh g –1 ) thanks to the Zn-ion insertion, delivering a superior energy density of 440 Wh kg –1 . The hybrid battery also shows a high capacity retention of 96.8% after 450 cycles. Moreover, an ultrahigh discharge capacity of 1250 mAh g –1 is achieved when further coupled with the Zn-O 2 reaction, delivering the promising application of ion intercalation and metal–air hybrid battery.
