Solar-energy-driven CO 2 conversion into valuable chemical fuels holds great renewable potential. However, most photocatalysts' weak CO 2 adsorption limits more artificial photosynthesis for further utilization. Herein, we present an in situ assembling approach to produce stable Cs 2 AgBiBr 6 /Ce-UiO-66-H composite, in which a tight contact interface between the two participated components was constructed. Benefiting from the photocatalytic properties and high adsorption capacity for CO 2 , the optimized 20Cs 2 AgBiBr 6 /Ce-UiO-66-H adsorption-photocatalyst exhibits outstanding performance for reductive CO 2 deoxygenation with considerable CO generation rate (309.01 μmol g −1 h −1 ) under simulated solar light irradiation with 300 W Xe lamp, which is about 2.1 and 2.7 times than that of pure Cs 2 AgBiBr 6 and Ce-UiO-66-H, respectively. The excellent catalytic conversion of CO 2 is ascribed to the effective solar harvest and quickly photo-excited carriers’ separation in such assembled architecture. Importantly, due to the in-situ synthesis, Cs 2 AgBiBr 6 QDs are intercalated in the Ce-UiO-66-H frameworks and it could lead to improved stability and induce abundant oxygen vacancies in Cs 2 AgBiBr 6 /Ce-UiO-66-H, which can maintain unchangeable CO 2 conversion rate under wet air with consecutive ten hours of the recycling test. In this work, the combining metal–organic frameworks and lead-free halide perovskite provide great potential for artificial photocatalytic CO 2 -to-CO conversion under a mild gas–solid reaction condition via utilizing solar energy.

This paper reported a facile method for fabricating CdTe quantum dots decorated fluorescent mesoporous silica nanoparticles containing poly(p-phenylenevinylene) by electrostatic interaction in aqueous solution. The resulted fluorescent hybrid nanomaterials showed the dual-emission centered at 500 nm and 717 nm, which can be used as a fluorescent probe to detect Cu 2+ in water through fluorescence resonance energy transfer. Cu 2+ can be captured by the amino groups of the polyethyleneimine to form an absorbent complex, resulting in a strong quenching of red-emission from CdTe quantum dots on the surface of nanoparticles via energy transfer. However, the green-emission of poly(p-phenylenevinylene) remained. Therefore the addition of Cu 2+ induced the fluorescent evolution of the nanoprobe from red to green. The nanoprobe provided an efficient platform for the sensing of Cu 2+ with a detection limit of 31.2 nM. Compared with pure quantum dots, the nanoprobe can distinguish Cu 2+ from Hg 2+ .

With the production and application of antibiotics, the generated substandard antibiotic wastewater has brought unprecedented damage to the environment and finally the health of human beings. To alleviate this problem, photocatalytic degradation was proposed, and various catalysts have been developed with high efficiency and low cost. Herein, a novel 0D/3D/2D dual Z-heterojunction photocatalyst CdS QDs/Bi 2 WO 6 /g-C 3 N 4 was constructed by in-situ growth method in order to efficiently degrade multiple antibiotic pollutants. The combination of multi-dimensional materials is more conducive to the close contact between materials and the effective transport of photogenerated carriers. Results reveal that the sample of 75 %CdS QDs/Bi 2 WO 6 /g-C 3 N 4 (denoted as 0.75CSBC) showed the best degradation activity and stability for tetracycline (TC), and the degradation rate could reach 80.83 % within 12 min under visible light irradiation. Based on the detailed analysis of the results from free radical trapping experiment, Mott-Schottky test and liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) test, the photocatalytic degradation mechanism and pathway were proposed. Besides, 0.75CSBC showed excellent degradation activity for levofloxacin (LVFX), oxytetracycline hydrochloride (OTC) and norfloxacin (NFLX), confirming its good universality. The multi-dimensional dual Z-heterojunction photocatalyst not only provides more active sites but also promotes the efficient migration of photogenerated charge, together with an excellent stability, indicating its wide practical application in the field of photocatalytic wastewater treatment. This work also provides an interesting method for the preparation of multi-dimensional heterogeneous catalysts.

Spinal cord injury (SCI) is one of the most devastating acute diseases. Zn 2+ has been verified plays a crucial role in SCI repair, however, how to continuously release zinc ions at the lesion site is still a cutting-edge challenge. Therefore, it is urgent to design a novel nanoplatform for promoting SCI repair with multifunction of controlled release of Zn 2+ and regulating ROS microenvironment of mitochondrion. Herein, we propose a protocol of preparing NIR sensitive ZnO quantum dots (QDs) decorated MXene hydrogel for SCI repair. TEM and EDS mapping showed that the ZnO QDs were uniformly distributed on the Mxene nanosheets. Catalase (CAT) analysis showed that the ZnO-Ti 3 C 2 nano enzymes could effectively scavenge ROS. Molecular biology studies showed that ZnO-Ti 3 C 2 @H repaired mitochondrial function by scavenging ROS with a clearance rate of up to 80 %. Neuronal apoptosis was subsequently reduced, and nerves and blood vessels were regenerated. NIR irradiation warmed the injury site to 42.9 °C, which enabled rapid enrichment of Zn 2+ at the lesion site. Footprinting and pathology experiments have shown that it improves functional recovery after injury and results in near-normal BMS scores. These results suggest that this multifunctional type of material incorporating NIR controlled release of Zn 2+ provides a promising strategy for promoting SCI repair.

Semiconductor quantum dots (QDs) and tungsten disulfide nanosheets (WS 2 NTs) have been widely studied in photocatalysis and photoelectrochemistry as representative electron donor–acceptor pairs but rarely in fluorescence sensing. In this study, we investigated the effect of WS 2 NTs on the fluorescence signal of cadmium telluride (CdTe) QDs by grafting an aptamer as a bridge between them. The corresponding quenching mechanism was systematically explored, and results described the photoinduced electron transfer (PET) from excited CdTe QDs to WS 2 NTs. Based on these results, a novel ratiometric fluorescence aptasensor was developed for zearalenone (ZEN) determination by innovatively introducing exonuclease I to digest the aptamer of ZEN and control the PET between CdTe QDs and WS 2 NTs. The designed aptasensor exhibited an acceptable linear range and detection limit (0.1 pg mL −1 ), and superior accuracy and selectivity. This ratiometric fluorescence aptasensor was also used to monitor ZEN in rice and corn flour.

Supported metallic nanoparticles render highly tunable physical and chemical properties to mixed-dimensionality materials in electrocatalysts. However, some supports are susceptible to being dissolved in acidic solution or are unstable in ambient air. The development of high-performance catalysts has been facing the major hurdles of the sluggish activity in alkaline solution and requesting high energy to stabilize the nanoparticles on their supports, challenging the pH-universality and the applicability of the supported metallic nanoparticles. Here, a one-step strategy is proposed to modulate the growth of Pt quantum dots (QDs) on HF-free MXene under atomic-level by a low-temperature metal–support interaction reaction. By controllable tailoring in the morphology and strain induced by terminations, Pt (111) QDs with a sub-nanoscale size of 1.15 nm are grown as 0D/1D heterostructure to overcome the restrictions of employing reduction gas and high annealing temperature. The catalyst exhibits a low overpotential of 33.3 mV for acidic solution, while 65.1 mV for alkaline solution at a specific current density of 10 mA cm −2 . This study not only paves a scalable pathway to developing cost-efficient catalysts in moderate conditions, but also demonstrates an effective surface modulation strategy for 0D/1D heterostructures.

In this work, a novel bi-modal imaging probe with enhanced CT contrast efficiency and FL brightness was constructed, in which the combination of a binary CT contrast agent BaHoF 5 and Cu-doped QDs served as a vehicle; hyaluronic acid (HA) was employed as a tumor-targeting ligand. With its CT contrast efficiency about 2.1- and 3.9-fold higher than PEG-BaHoF 5 and Iohexol, the CT contrast efficiency and the fluorescent brightness of the bi-modal probe were both enhanced. Likewise, its fluorescent brightness is almost 6-fold brighter after Cu-doped QDs loading. The most important contribution of this work lies on the proposed strategy. The inherent contradiction of the imaging sensitivity of CT and FL imaging is well balanced and a great CT/FL bi-modal imaging performance is simultaneously obtained even at low concentration (400 μg/mL) of the probe, which was superior to the previous CT/FL bi-modal probes. Moreover, since BaHoF 5 as a binary CT contrast agent was introduced instead of conventional Au and Bi 2 S 3 , the CT/FL bi-modal probe would be more suitable for different patients under different operation voltages. In addition, the in vitro tumor cell imaging also demonstrated a good photo-stability, FL brightness, and tumor-targeting capability of the probe, indicating its great potential in practical bi-modal imaging for further tumor diagnosis and therapy.
A novel bi-modal imaging probe with enhanced CT contrast efficiency and FL brightness was fabricated, in which its CT contrast efficiency was about 2.1- and 3.9-fold higher than PEG-BaHoF 5 and Iohexol, respectively, and its fluorescent brightness almost 6-fold brighter after Cu-doped QDs loading.

A ratiometric sensor of MOF/ CdTe QDs was constructed by physically mixing CdTe QDs ( λ em = 605 nm) with MOF (Fe-MIL-88NH 2, λ em = 425 nm). Under an UV lamp ( λ ex = 365 nm), orange-red CdTe QDs is gradually quenched with increasing levels of Hg 2+ or Cu 2+ , while blue MOF is unchanged, accompanying with a visual change from bright pink to blue fluorescence. Hence, a new method for determining Hg 2+ and Cu 2+ by MOF/CdTe QDs sensor is established, whose detection limits are 0.22 ng mL −1 for Hg 2+ (2.1% RSD) and 0.26 ng mL −1 for Cu 2+ (1.1% RSD), respectively. In addition, on-site, rapid and visual determination of Hg 2+ /Cu 2+ in red wine without any pretreatment is realized by using a MOF/CdTe QDs paper-based sensor. For Hg 2+ and Cu 2+ , the semi-quantitative detection ranges of the paper-based sensor are both 10 ~ 5000 ng mL −1 , implying that it has great application value in analyzing Hg 2+ and Cu 2+ in liquid samples.

Chromium (VI) [Cr(VI)] is considered to be a serious environmental pollutant because of its highly carcinogenic and mutagenic properties. In this study, we fabricated fluorescent probes for Cr(VI) detection by encapsulating cadmium telluride quantum dots (CdTe QDs) into zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8). The obtained composites, designated as CdTe QDs@ZIF-8, were able to sense Cr(VI) through the combined action of fluorescence dynamic and static quenching. Under the optimum conditions, the obtained CdTe QDs@ZIF-8 composites showed high selectivity and sensitivity toward Cr(VI). The fluorescence intensity of the CdTe QDs@ZIF-8 composites decreased as the concentration of Cr(VI) increased across from the range of 2.5 to 40 μM with a detection limit of 0.06 μM. The CdTe QDs@ZIF-8 composites were successfully applied to determine Cr(VI) in tap water and seawater samples; the average recoveries of Cr(VI) at different spiking concentration levels ranged from 94.0% to 104.1% with relative standard deviations below 4.8%. This work provides a novel fluorescent detection method for Cr(VI) and discrimination between Cr(VI) and Cr(III), which can be used for rapid recognition and determination of Cr(VI) in complex matrices.

A fluorescence probe was delicately designed for the detection of malachite green (MG) in water and fish samples. Through the electrostatic self-assembly of CdTe QDs on the surface of polystyrene (PS) microspheres, the fluorescence signal was amplified. After grafting molecularly imprinted film, the fluorescence probe of MIP@PS@CdTe was fabricated and applied to the detection of MG based on fluorescence quenching . The linear range of MG detection was 0.01–20 μmol L − 1 , and the detection limit was 4.7 nmol L − 1 (3 σ , n = 9) which was much lower than those of the previous reports. The recoveries of MG in aquaculture water and fish samples ranging from 87.6% to 105.4% illustrated that the detection by MIP@PS@CdTe probe was accurate and reliable.

In situ liquid cell electron microscopy technology has high temporal and spatial resolution, enabling real-time observation of physical and chemical processes in liquid environments. However, the common in situ liquid cell scanning electron microscopy (LC-SEM) technology has faced limitations due to the relatively large thickness of the SiNx window, resulting in unsatisfactory resolution, limiting the broad adoption of the LC-SEM technology. This article represents one novel approach of utilizing ultra-thin SiNx windows for LC-SEM observation of the distribution and dynamic changes of gold (Au) nanoparticles/zinc oxide quantum dots (ZnO QDs)/reduced graphene oxide (rGO) ternary composites in liquid. The results demonstrate a single/near-single dispersed distribution of ZnO QDs on the surface of the rGO, with Au nanoparticles and ZnO clusters mainly concentrated on the rGO folds. The composite structure demonstrates relative stability, attributed to electrostatic forces. Using Au nanoparticles and ZnO QDs as hierarchical reference markers, a high LC-SEM image resolution of ~4 nm is obtained, which allows the observation and motion analysis of the Au nanoparticles, rGO nanosheets, as well as ZnO QDs in the liquid cell. Such LC-SEM technology shows good repeatability on the noble-metal/ZnO-QDs/rGO ternary composite samples, with good potential for the future QD composite material researches.

Herein, a novel dual-mode biosensor integrating photoelectrochemical (PEC) and fluorescence (FL) sensing detection was developed for circulating tumor cells (CTCs) based on aptamer DNA-linked CdTe QDs (Apt-CdTe QDs)/Bi 2 MoO 6 /CdS “dual Z-scheme” sensing system. Apt-CdTe QDs were assembled on FTO/CdS/Bi 2 MoO 6 /cDNA electrode through hybridization with cDNA, resulting in the formation of a double Z-scheme CdS/Bi 2 MoO 6 /CdTe heterostructure that significantly enhanced the separation of photo-generated charge carriers, thereby improving photocatalytic efficiency. Upon the presence of MCF-7 cells, Apt-QDs were captured and subsequently released from the captured electrode, leading to a decrease in photocurrent and an increase in fluorescence intensity, thus enabling effective PEC-FL dual-mode detection. The detection of CTCs exhibited a linear relationship within the concentration range from 50 to 100000 cells mL −1 with limit of detection of 1 cell mL −1 in both PEC and FL modes. This approach effectively corrected systematic errors, improved detection accuracy and sensitivity, and held great potential in the clinical detection of CTCs.
