Antibiotic pollution, a kind of important plague to human society, has received increasing attention. The photocatalysis with high degradation efficiency, energy saving, and environmentally friendly, has been becoming one of the most promising wastewater treatment techniques. In this paper, using in-situ hydrothermal synthesis technology, a semiconductor material for photodegradation of antibiotics, SnS 2 nanoparticles (SnSPs), was combined onto the surface of Zirconium-based metal organic frames (abbreviated to UiO-66), which afforded a nano-heterojunction of SnS 2 [email protected] ( [email protected] ), a novel photocatalytic material with regrowth of UiO-66 crystal during the hydrothermal reaction. After combining with metal organic frames (MOFs), the antibiotic degradation performance of SnSPs has been greatly improved because its specific surface areas could be enlarged, and provided more active sites for photocatalytic degradation. The obtained [email protected] was applied to photocatalytic degradation of antibiotics. It showed significant degradation of tetracycline (TC) under visible light irradiation, and the degradation rate got to 90.0% within 75 min, which was 4.3 times and 5.1 times higher than that of pure SnSPs and UiO-66, respectively. The possible photocatalytic mechanism of [email protected] nano-heterojunction was also investigated. In summary, a novel nano-heterojunction photocatalyst was prepared by a simple method, which had excellent application prospect for the treatment of medical wastewater.

The carrier transfer mechanism of S-scheme heterojunctions has been extensively explored, yet their impact on light absorption performance remains ambiguous. In this work, a finely designed S-scheme heterojunction was developed by coupling oxidation photocatalyst a specific covalent organic framework (COF)-TaTp, and reduction photocatalyst SnS 2 (SS) for in-situ H 2 O 2 photo-production and sterilization. The optimized 10% SS/TaTp achieved a 3.45- and 16.87-fold enhancement in H 2 O 2 generation than pure TaTp and SS, respectively, with significant improvements under visible and near-infrared (NIR) light. In-situ XPS, EPR, and Kelvin probe force microscopy (KPFM) verified the S-scheme charge transfer mechanism, underscoring accelerated photo-induced electrons migration and strengthened redox capacity. The internal electric field of 10% SS/TaTp was calculated to be 2.14 and 4.63 times stronger than TaTp and SS. Intriguingly, the electron localization function and partial density of states analyses revealed that the interfacial C-N-S covalent bonds finely tuned the energy band structure and generated hybrid energy levels in the heterojunction, thus improving light harvesting and catalytic performance in both visible-light and NIR region. This work highlights the role of interfacial covalent interactions in tuning energy levels in COF-based S-scheme photocatalysts.

The application of resistive random-access memory (RRAM) in storage and neuromorphic computing has attracted widespread attention. Benefitting from the quantum effect, transition metal dichalcogenides (TMD) quantum dots (QDs) exhibit distinctive optical and electronic properties, which make them promising candidates for emerging RRAM. Here, we show a high-performance forming-free flexible RRAM based on high-quality tin disulfide (SnS2) QDs prepared by a facile liquid phase method. The RRAM device demonstrates high flexibility with a large on/off ratio of ∼106 and a long retention time of over 3 × 104 s. The excellent switching behavior of the memristor is elucidated by a charge trapping/de-trapping mechanism where the SnS2 QDs act as charge trapping centers. This study is of significance for the understanding and development of TMD QD-based flexible memristors.

Aqueous zinc-ion batteries (AZIBs) face critical challenges including poor cycling stability, zinc dendrite growth, and low zinc utilization. To address these issues, a multifunctional SnS2–CuS heterostructure is proposed, serving both as a zinc anode protective layer in conventional AZIBs and a metal-free anode in rocking-chair zinc-ion batteries (RCZIBs). In AZIBs, the SnS2–CuS heterostructure generates a synergistic effect between different phases. This effect improves interfacial charge transfer efficiency, guides the oriented deposition of Zn2+ along the (001) crystal plane of SnS2, and optimizes Zn2+ migration kinetics. When deployed as the anode for RCZIBs, the elaborate heterostructure construction efficiently alleviates the severe volume expansion of CuS during repeated charge–discharge cycling, while interfacial charge polarization derived from heterogeneous coupling further accelerates the electrochemical reaction kinetics. To clarify the electrochemical mechanism, in situ XRD, in situ EIS, DRT analysis, and ex situ XPS are used to track phase transitions and interfacial dynamic processes. Density functional theory calculations also theoretically verify that the SnS2–CuS heterostructure significantly enhances Zn2+ storage capability. Electrochemical tests show that the assembled RCZIB delivers a discharge specific capacity of 179.03 mAh g−1 at 0.2 A g−1, retaining 114.51 mAh g−1 after 200 cycles. Moreover, it maintains 83.6% of its initial capacity after 1000 cycles at 1 A g−1, demonstrating outstanding cycling stability. This study achieves the compatible application of the SnS2–CuS heterostructure in both AZIBs and RCZIBs and highlights its considerable potential for next-generation high-performance energy storage systems.

Tin dioxide (SnO 2 )-based materials with renowned conversion-alloying hybrid mechanism represent great potential as anodes for next-generation lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). Nevertheless, their commercial applications are still plagued by fast capacity decay and insufficient rate capability originated from sluggish reaction kinetics and irreversible conversion reaction. Herein, heterogeneous SnO 2 /SnS 2 quantum dots are carefully constructed on graphene oxide (SnO 2 /SnS 2 QDs@GO) via one-step hydrothermal synthesis leveraging well-matched bandgaps of SnO 2 and SnS 2 , in which GO not only provides enough negative charges to restrict the nucleation of QDs, but also is employed as robust conductive network to reinforce the structural stability of the electrode. Experimental and first-principles calculation results confirm that the constructed heterointerface promotes electronic conductivity and accelerates interfacial charge transfer kinetics while simultaneously lowering Li 2 O decomposition energy barrier to realize high reaction reversibility, ultimately favoring excellent rate capability and cyclability. Moreover, the built-in electric field induced by SnO 2 /SnS 2 heterojunction greatly boosts electronic/ionic transport kinetics. Endowed with the elaborate structure combining intrinsic and extrinsic advantages, the cell assembled with SnO 2 /SnS 2 QDs@GO electrode presents high reversible capacity of 1216.9 mAh g −1 after 100 cycles at 0.1 A g −1 and desirable long-cycle stability over 1500 cycles at 5.0 A g −1 . Therefore, this work may provide new insights into engineering semiconductor-based heterojunction anode for advanced LIBs.

An ECL-smartphone colorimetric dual-mode sensor is developed using SnS 2 QDs and Ag 2 O nanozyme. • SnS 2 QDs exhibit high and stable ECL intensity for durable detection. • Ag 2 O nanozyme catalyzes TMB oxidation, in free of H 2 O 2 . • This sensor achieves high-sensitivity detection to suppress false positives. Sulfadiazine (SDZ), a widely used antibiotic, poses a serious residue threat to food safety, necessitating the development of rapid, sensitive, and reliable detection. Here, a dual-mode sensor combining electrochemiluminescence (ECL) and smartphone-based colorimetry is developed using SnS 2 quantum dots (QDs) as the ECL emitter and Ag 2 O nanozyme as the 3,3′,5,5′-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) coloring catalyst. This dual-mode platform, which features a molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP)-SDZ-aptamer sandwich configuration, combines the high sensitivity and wide dynamic range of ECL with the simplicity, visual readability, and portability of smartphone-based colorimetric analysis. The sensor exhibited high sensitivity in a wide linear range (10 −4 –10 3 μM) with a low detection limit (5.8 × 10 −5 μM, S/N = 3). Spiked recovery tests in real chicken samples confirmed its high accuracy and reliability. This work not only provides a convenient, low-cost, and accurate method for SDZ detection but also offers a new strategy for the potential application of multimodal sensing platforms in food safety monitoring. Ammonia (NH3) detection at room temperature under varying humidity conditions is crucial for environmental monitoring, industrial safety, and healthcare. However, ammonia detection remains a challenge due to the lack of sensitivity and selectivity of current room temperature based sensors. In this context, Ti3C2Tx MXene and flower-like SnS2 composites were investigated for NH3 sensing. A comparative analysis of multilayered and few-layered nanohybrid composites demonstrated that the few-layered configuration displayed a markedly enhanced response to ammonia. Its larger surface area, higher electrical conductivity, and higher number of active sites contribute to its superior gas diffusion and charge transfer properties. The composite was further functionalized with Nafion (NF) to enhance sensitivity and selectivity under humid conditions. In an optimized NF-functionalized few-layered Ti3C2Tx/SnS2 sensor, we achieved a 12.11 response ratio towards 100 ppm NH3, with a response time of 42 s and a recovery time of 156 s, as well as excellent selectivity towards interfering gases. Reliability tests conducted in humid environments confirmed the excellent operational stability and durability of the proposed sensor. These experimental results demonstrate that the developed few-layered Ti3C2Tx/SnS2/NF nanohybrid composite provides a highly durable, sensitive, and selective platform for NH3 detection in practical applications at room temperature.

This study presents the development of nitrogen-doped carbon sphere/SnS 2 nanocomposites (SnS 2 @NCS) as efficient platinum-free counter electrodes for dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). Nitrogen doping introduces topological defects into the carbon matrix, facilitating the epitaxial growth of ultrathin SnS 2 nanosheets into hierarchical architectures. The optimized SnS 2 @NCS electrode exhibits significantly enhanced catalytic activity, demonstrated by a low charge–transfer resistance of 1.070 Ω cm −2 (representing a 74.6% reduction compared to the undoped SnS 2 @CS) and achieves a power conversion efficiency of 8.18%, rivaling that of platinum-based counterparts. The improved performance is attributed to synergistic effects arising from C N bonds and SnS 2 nanosheets, which collectively enhance interfacial charge transport and electrolyte infiltration. This work demonstrates a cost-effective strategy for fabricating high-performance DSSCs.

Room-temperature Na-ion batteries (NIBs) have been generally expected to offer a hopeful perspective for renewable energy storage applications on a large scale. However, a shortage of appropriate anode materials for NIBs has hindered their large-scale applications. Here, we report the strong chemical bonding of tin sulfide on amino-functionalized graphene that is prepared by a facile amine-thermal reaction. In contrast to previous reports on graphene-based composite electrodes, our strategy has the following merits: the one-step formation of amino-functionalized reduced grapheme oxide (RGO) from GO and tight contact of SnS2 nanocrystals at an amino-functionalized graphene interface. This concept has been demonstrated by experimental results which are in congruence with first principles theoretical calculations. When investigated as an anode material for NIBs, the composite maintained a capacity of 680 mA h g−1 after cycling for 100 cycles at a current density of 200 mA g−1, and 480 mA h g−1 after 1000 cycles at 1 A g−1. The outstanding performance results from the unique structure of the hybrid nanosheets.

Free-standing graphene-based composite paper electrodes with various active materials have attracted tremendous interest for next-generation lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) due to advantages such as their light weight, excellent mechanical flexibility, and superior electrochemical performance. However, despite its high theoretical energy density, SnS2 is rather difficult to composite with the graphene paper, because conventional reduction procedures for graphene oxide (GO) induce either decomposition or oxidation of SnS2. Herein, a novel solid/gas two-phase interface hydrothermal process is reported to fabricate flexible free-standing SnS2/graphene nanocomposite papers (SGP) assisted by a reducing and stabilizing agent thioacetamide aqueous solution. Such hydrothermal process not only successfully reduces SnS2/graphene oxide paper (SGOP) to SGP, but more importantly, keeps intact the paper configuration as well as the phase stability of SnS2. The as-prepared SGP electrode exhibits high reversible discharge capacity, outstanding cyclic stability and rate capability, which can be attributed to the synergistic effect of the conductive and flexible graphene matrix for accommodation of the volumetric changes of SnS2 upon cycling and the planar SnS2 nanospacers between the graphene layers introducing nanopores for penetration of electrolyte and inhibition of graphene nanosheets restacking. This report demonstrates a new strategy for more active materials with promising lithium storage properties joining the flexible graphene-based paper electrode family.

Conductive metal–organic frameworks (C-MOF) materials possess a high absorbability and structural tunability. However, their low sensitivity and poor specificity limit their applications. Constructing PN heterostructures with other semiconductor materials can regulate the C-MOF energy band structure, reduce particle stacking, and boost gas-sensing performance. Here, we synthesize Cu 3 (HHTP) 2 (C-MOF) material in-situ onto SnS 2 nanolayers to form PN heterojunctions that facilitate high-performance NH 3 sensing, a four times higher response compared to pristine MOF-based sensors, ultralow detection limits (experimental: 125 ppb; theoretical: 9.84 ppb), and improved selectivity against various rotten gases. Machine learning is applied to analyse the effects of temperature, time, humidity, and category on the sensing response, achieving 78.5 % accuracy in predicting meat storage time. By adding a Bluetooth module and cloud-based signal analysis, we provide a proof-of-concept for a portable, fast response, non-destructive remote gas sensing device for real-time food-freshness monitoring deployable at any stage along the food supply chain.
