Layered bimetallic hydroxide (LDH) has garnered significant attention due to its outstanding redox activity, making it a highly promising candidate as an anode material for sodium-ion batteries. In this study, a CoSn-LDH@MXene nanocomposite was skillfully fabricated through a one-step hydrothermal and ultrasonic treatment, involving the integration of CoSn-LDH microspheres onto Ti3C2 MXene nanosheets. CoSn-LDH was incorporated into the MXene interlayers via electrostatic adsorption, ensuring uniform dispersion, thereby preventing further MXene stacking and simultaneously increasing the interlayer distance. The exceptional electrical conductivity of MXene, combined with the abundant active sites provided by CoSn-LDH, synergistically enhances ion and electron transfer, resulting in the remarkable electrochemical performance of CoSn-LDH@MXene nanocomposites in sodium storage. An initial specific capacity of 976.1 mAh g–1 was achieved at 0.1 A g–1, with a remarkable capacity retention of 97.29% observed even after 100 cycles at 0.5 A g–1. The superior electrochemical performance of the CoSn-LDH@MXene nanocomposites can be attributed to the synergistic interplay between the robust redox-active LDH structure and the highly conductive MXene network. These findings suggest that CoSn-LDH@MXene nanocomposites hold significant promise for the advancement of sodium storage materials.

Background Carbosulfan (CBS) is a widely used carbamate pesticide in agricultural production, its easy decomposition into hypertoxic carbofuran poses serious threats to human health and food safety. Therefore, sensitive and accurate detection of CBS is of significant importance. Conventional chromatography-based techniques require expensive instruments and complicated sample pretreatment, limiting their application for fast detection. Current electrochemical and colorimetric methods for detection of pesticides based on the cascade catalytic reactions between acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and nanozymes, which exhibit inferior selectivity. Hence, selective, sensitive and fast detection of CBS is still challenging. Results In this work, an AChE-free colorimetric method was proposed for selective detection of CBS based on its unique hydrolysis behavior and nanozyme. Ti 3 C 2 nanosheets/AuPt nanoparticles (Ti 3 C 2 /AuPt NPs) with enhanced peroxidase-like activity were prepared via one-step self-reduction reaction. CBS can be hydrolyzed under acidic condition and produce –SH moieties, which could bond to Pt atoms of Ti 3 C 2 /AuPt NPs and shield the active sites of nanozyme, resulting in decreased catalytic activity. Based on the inhibitory effect on the peroxidase-like activity of Ti 3 C 2 /AuPt NPs, a colorimetric method was proposed for direct detection of CBS. Under optimal conditions, the method showed wide linear range (0.5 ng mL −1 -5 μg mL −1 ), low limit of detection (0.342 nM), good selectivity and anti-interference ability. The feasibility of this method for practical use was confirmed by analysis of CBS in real lake water samples. Significance This work proposed a simple colorimetric method for selective and fast detection of CBS, which avoided employing AChE and cascade catalytic reactions, significantly lowering the detection cost and improving detection efficiency. The method showed great potential for accurate detection of CBS in actual samples, and provided a new avenue for developing nanozyme-based colorimetric method for detection of other pesticide residues.

MXenes are promising 2D-layered anode materials for rechargeable batteries due to their outstanding electrical conductivity, high specific surface area, and tunable surface functional groups. However, serious self-stacking of the layered structure and the sluggish sodium diffusion kinetics lead to inferior rate capability and cycling stability. Herein, an organic molecular pillaring strategy is reported to enlarge the interlayer spacing of Ti3C2 through a dehydration condensation reaction between the •COOH groups in 3,3',4,4'-benzene tetracarboxylic acid (BTCA) molecules and the•NH2 groups of Ti3C2-NH2, which enables rigid organic BTCA molecules to be chemically pillared into the interlayers of Ti3C2 (Ti3C2-BTCA). The rigid organic BTCA molecules not only play a dual role of pillar and strain effects in Ti3C2 layers, but also expand the interlayer spacing. Therefore, they can significantly enhance the rate capability and cycling stability of Ti3C2. The Ti3C2-BTCA exhibits a reversible capacity of 182.30 mAh g-1 at a current density of 0.1 A g-1 after 2000 cycles, and maintained a reversible capacity of 77.9 %. Moreover, the sodium diffusion coefficients of Ti3C2-BTCA are 6.6×10-7 cm2 s-1. Ti3C2-BTCA shows a relatively low sodium diffusion barrier and a high sodium diffusion coefficient compared with Ti3C2. The interlayer engineering based on the organic molecular pillaring strategy is significant and meaningful for expanding the interlayer spacing of Ti3C2. This work provides theoretical guidance and new perspectives for the development of Na+ storage materials with high-rate capability.

Rapid activation of sodium persulfate (SPS) for the degradation of C.I. Reactive Red 218 (RR218) was achieved using Ti 3 C 2 MXene reduction of trace Fe 3+ . The degradation rate of RR218 reached 97.7% using a mixture containing 3 g L −1 of SPS, 3.35 mg L −1 of Fe 3+ and 60 mg L −1 of MXene stirred at 25 °C for 30 min. The intense reduction of Ti 3 C 2 MXene triggers the Fe 3+ /Fe 2+ cycle thereby accelerating the activation of SPS. When reactive dyes were degraded by Fe 3+ /SPS/MXene process, ·OH played a major role. The dye degradation capacity of the Fe 3+ /SPS/MXene process decreased after 5 cycles of recycling. In addition, the wastewater treated under these conditions resulted in high dyeing efficiencies in reuse experiments. This study not only improves the understanding of the catalytic reaction of MXene but also provides a wastewater treatment and reuse process with low metal consumption and high efficiency.

Doxorubicin, as an anthracycline antibiotic, is a commonly used and effective chemotherapeutic agent for treating various malignancies. However, it has a narrow therapeutic window. Therefore, real-time monitoring of doxorubicin concentration in chemotherapy patients is essential for enhancing treatment efficacy, minimizing side effects, and ensuring patient safety. In this paper, we proposed a Ti 3 C 2 MXene-sensitized fiber surface plasmon resonance (SPR) doxorubicin sensor. By covalently functionalizing the reflective SPR sensing structure with Ti 3 C 2 MXene, the refractive index sensitivity increased by 60.0 %. Furthermore, by covalently modifying the doxorubicin-specific aptamer, the sensor achieves high sensitivity and high specificity in the detection of doxorubicin. Within the linear range of 10–100 μM, it demonstrates a sensitivity of 0.24 nm/μM and a limit of detection of 2.79 μM. Furthermore, experiments confirmed that the doxorubicin sensor exhibits excellent specificity and can be applied for the detection of doxorubicin in real serum samples. The proposed doxorubicin sensor offers benefits such as high sensitivity, high specificity, fast response, and small size, and has the potential to meet the clinical requirements for monitoring doxorubicin concentration in chemotherapy patients.

Solar energy can be used as “green” energy by photocatalysis for the nitrogen fixation under the atmospheric conditions compared with the traditional energy-intensive industrial production of ammonia. However, the complex kinetics and high reaction barriers greatly hinder the development of the photocatalytic N2 reduction reaction. Herein, a BiOBr/MXene-Ti3C2 composite catalyst is prepared by the simple electrostatic adsorption and self-assembly method. The as-prepared 10 wt % BiOBr/Ti3C2 exhibits the best performance for N2 fixation to NH3 by photocatalysis. The evolution rate of NH3 is up to 234.6 μmol·g–1·h–1, which is approximately 48.8 times and 52.4 times higher than those of pure BiOBr and Ti3C2, respectively. It is found that the designed double vacancies of oxygen and titanium for BiOBr/Ti3C2 composites, with the availability of localized electrons, have the ability to adsorb and activate N2, which can be efficiently reduced to NH3 by the interfacial electrons transferred from the excited BiOBr/Ti3C2 composite. In addition, the results of in situ Fourier transform infrared show the generation of NxHy species by the continuous protonation processes. Moreover, titanium vacancy (VTi) induces a strong absorption energy for nitrogen atoms on the surface of BiOBr/Ti3C2 according to the density functional theory calculations. In particular, the P-electron feedback caused by VTi could effectively promote the weakening of the N≡N triple bond and elongate the N2 bond length by ∼31.6%. This work might provide new insights into the synergistic effect of double defects and inspiration for the rational design of catalysts by defect engineering in the field of catalytic synthesis of ammonia.

A facile one-pot strategy synthesizes porous B-NiCo-LDH/Ti 3 C 2 2D/2D heterostructures. • B doping tunes electronic structure and strengthens NiCo-LDH/Ti 3 C 2 interfacial bond. • Composite shows enlarged surface area and optimal porous structure for ion transport. • This work offers a universal strategy for designing doped 2D heterostructures. MXenes and layered double hydroxides (LDHs) emerge as advanced electrode candidates for high-performance supercapacitors. Nevertheless, pure Ti 3 C 2 or LDH suffers from either self-stacking or low electronic conductivity and instability. In this work, porous B-doped NiCo-LDH (B-NiCo-LDH) anchored on Ti 3 C 2 nanosheets has been designed and fabricated via a one-pot co-precipitation reaction. Element doping, composite fabrication and structural regulation are realized simultaneously via a simple one-step synthetic strategy. The obtained 2D/2D B-NiCo-LDH/Ti 3 C 2 heterostructures combine the advantages of LDH, Ti 3 C 2 , element doping and porous structure. Boron incorporation diminishes interfacial binding energy in the B-NiCo-LDH/Ti 3 C 2 system, expedites electron movement across interfaces, and ameliorates the composite’s electrical conductivity. The optimal B-NiCo-LDH/Ti 3 C 2 -20 delivers a specific capacitance of 1581.66 F g −1 at 1.0 A g −1 , a rate capability with 82.73% capacitance retention at 20 A g −1 , and a cycling stability of 77.55% after 5000 cycles. An aqueous battery-type hybrid asymmetric supercapacitor (HASC, B-NiCo-LDH/Ti 3 C 2 -20//Bi 2 O 3 /Ti 3 C 2 ) exhibits an energy density of 87.28 Wh kg −1 at a power density of 753.86 W kg −1 . This work provides a feasible strategy for improving energy storage performance via the design of element-doped 2D heterostructures. Germanium (Ge) is a promising high-capacity anode material for lithium-ion batteries; however, its practical application remains limited by substantial volume variation, unstable interfacial reactions, and rapid capacity degradation during repeated lithiation/delithiation. In this work, a binder-free Ge/C/MXene@NF hybrid electrode was developed through a sequential fabrication process, where Ge nanoparticles were immobilized within a PVP-derived carbon matrix supported on a three-dimensional nickel-foam scaffold and subsequently integrated with a Ti3C2TxMXene conductive network to construct a hierarchical Ge/C/MXene hybrid architecture. The nickel foam provides a continuous current-collecting framework and mechanical support, while the MXene network improves electrical connectivity, electrolyte accessibility, and interfacial charge-transfer kinetics. Structural and compositional analyses further indicate the presence of PVP-derived carbon and a possible minor NiGe interfacial phase formed during annealing. Comparison with Ge@NF and the individual component electrodes provides insight into the respective contributions of MXene, Ge, and the PVP-derived carbon framework to the electrochemical behaviour of the composite electrode. Using the total deposited active-material mass as the normalisation basis, the MXene@Ge@NF electrode retains a reversible specific capacity of 789.8 mAh g−1after 100 cycles at an effective current density of 76.2 mA g−1. The observed electrochemical behaviour originates from the integrated contributions of Ge nanoparticles, the PVP-derived carbon matrix, the conductive Ti3C2TxMXene network, the three-dimensional nickel-foam scaffold, and possible Ni–Ge interfacial interactions. Rather than representing a Ge-dominated electrode, this architecture demonstrates the advantages of integrating multiple functional components within a binder-free Ge/C/MXene hybrid architecture.

Red phosphorus (P), with high theoretical specific capacity and environmental benignity, represents a promising anode material for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). However, its practical application is hindered by intrinsic limitations, such as poor electronic conductivity and substantial volume fluctuation, resulting in sluggish redox reaction kinetics and compromised reaction reversibility. Herein, we design a 3D P-bonded radially-oriented Ti 3 C 2 microsphere composite electrode (P80/MS-Ti 3 C 2 ) via an innovative electrostatic spraying technique. The unique, highly conductive, radially-oriented Ti 3 C 2 matrix uniformly and tightly encapsulates P nanoparticles within the channels, which establish continuous ion/electron pathways and prevent the aggregation of 2D Ti 3 C 2 sheets. Simultaneously, the formation of robust Ti-O-P covalent bonds at the interface significantly enhances the intrinsic electronic conductivity and alleviates the volume expansion and exfoliation of red P during cycling. The synergistic integration of stabilized covalent interfaces and meticulously-engineered architecture endow the optimized P80/MS-Ti 3 C 2 electrode with high reversible specific capacities and outstanding cycling stability, achieving 1269.5 mAh g − 1 at 500 mA g − 1 after 700 cycles and 1064.3 mAh g − 1 at 1 A g − 1 after 1000 cycles even under a high P loading of 36.7%, with P approaching its theoretical capacity. This work provides an effective structural and interfacial engineering strategy to overcome the fundamental challenges of P-based electrodes, demonstrating great potential for high-performance LIBs.

Ti3C2 MXenes have attracted considerable attention in the field of electromagnetic wave (EMW) absorption due to their conductive layered structure. In recent years, modulating the electromagnetic properties of MXenes through surface functional group engineering has emerged as a research focus, yet the synergistic effects among different functional groups and their dominant mechanisms remain unclear. Here, accordion-like Ti3C2(Cl, O)x has been synthesized via a molten salt etching method. By adjusting the etching temperature, the surface Cl/O atomic ratio and total surface termination number of Ti3C2(Cl, O)x can be precisely regulated while maintaining a stable interlayer spacing, which provides an ideal platform for revealing the intrinsic influence of surface chemistry on EMW absorbing performance. The surface chemistry effectively regulates the balance between conduction loss and polarization loss. At relatively low etching temperatures (550–650 °C), EMW absorption is dominated by polarization loss induced by surface terminations. In contrast, at higher etching temperatures (700 °C), the synergistic contribution of enhanced conduction loss and residual polarization endows the material with pronounced dielectric dispersion, enabling efficient EMW attenuation over a broader frequency range. The Ti3C2(Cl, O)x etched at 650 °C shows strong absorption with a minimum reflection loss of −52.3 dB, while the sample etched at 700 °C has an ultra-wide effective absorption bandwidth of 8.35 GHz, surpassing previously reported pristine MXene absorbers. This work provides an effective strategy for tailoring the EMW absorption performance of MXenes at the atomic scale through surface chemistry engineering.

The strategic integration of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) with MXenes presents a promising avenue to overcome charge separation bottlenecks in photocatalysis. This study constructs a hierarchical S-scheme heterojunction by in-situ growing ultrafine Zinc–Tetrakis(4-carboxyphenyl) porphyrin (Cobalt-incorporated) Zn-TCPP(Co) MOF nanoparticles (15 nm) on two-dimensional functionalized MXene nanosheets. This unique “particle-on-lamella” architecture is engineered with molecular bridges, establishing a chemically bonded interface via C–Ti–O and N–Ti bonds that facilitate rapid charge transfer. The optimized heterostructure exhibits a narrow bandgap of 1.95 eV, a significantly prolonged charge carrier lifetime of 35.5 ns, and a high photocurrent density of 1.7 µA cm − 2 . By leveraging synergistic S-scheme charge separation, MXene’s metallic conductivity, and molecular single-atom Co sites, the composite achieves an exceptional hydrogen evolution rate of 24.3 mmol g − 1 h − 1 with an apparent quantum efficiency of 10.2% at 420 nm—representing a sixfold enhancement over pristine Zn-TCPP(Co). This performance surpasses many recently reported MOF- and MXene-based photocatalysts. Combined density functional theory calculations and experimental analyses confirm the critical role of the internal electric field in driving the S-scheme mechanism, which effectively preserves strong redox potentials. This work provides a definitive blueprint for high-performance photocatalytic systems through molecular-level interfacial engineering.

A humic substance/Ti 3 C 2 /ZnO composite was developed to enhance photoelectrocatalytic degradation of tetracycline. • Humic substances derived from livestock manure and straw promoted tetracycline enrichment and interfacial electron transfer. • The integrated system removed 95.2% of tetracycline in water and achieved effective degradation in soil. • The degradation process is governed by coupled adsorption enrichment and in situ photoelectrocatalysis. The challenge of degrading tetracycline (TC) in nature was addressed herein by developing a photoelectrocatalytic system using a humic substance (HS)-modified Ti 3 C 2 /ZnO nanocomposite. The HS which was extracted from animal organic waste facilitated the spontaneous physical adsorption of TC and promoted electron transfer. Concurrently, the Ti 3 C 2 /ZnO Schottky junction enhanced separation of photogenerated electron-hole pairs. This synergy resulted in a TC removal efficiency of 95.2% in aqueous solution within 100 min, and 40.2% in simulated soil environments. Combined with theoretical calculations, the underlying degradation mechanism was elucidated.
