In this work, the humic acid (HA)-modified g-C3N4-supported hydrotalcite-like compounds (g-C3N4@HTLcs/HA) was successfully synthesized, characterized, and further applied to remove 2,4-dichlorophenol (DP), glyphosate (GH), and tetracycline (TL) from aqueous solution. The results showed that g-C3N4@HTLcs/HA had obvious layered structure, and a large amount of HA was successfully loaded on the surface. When HA concentration was 100 mg L–1, the adsorption capacity of DP, GH, and TL was relatively high. The optimal pH range of TL adsorption was 7–9 and that of DP and GH were 3–9, and the influence of ionic strength on the adsorption of g-C3N4@HTLcs/HA100 was limited. The isotherm experimental data of TL, GH, and DP adsorption onto g-C3N4@HTLcs/HA100 were best fitted by Freundlich and Langmuir models. The adsorption of TL, DP, and GH was all consonant with the pseudo-second-order kinetic model and spontaneous endothermic process. Based on the mass transfer theory, the diffusion of TL, DP, and GH on the adsorption process under liquid film control was derived. The adsorption mechanism might be the ion exchange between the layers of hydrotalcite, and the surface complexation and hydrogen bonding between various groups of HA and organic contaminants. This work suggested that g-C3N4@HTLcs/HA100 was effective in treatment of water containing various organic pollutants.

The coexistence of glyphosate (GLY) and microcystin-LR (MC-LR) in the environment has become a problem that cannot be ignored. However, the combined toxic effects of these compounds on aquatic organisms remain underexplored. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the individual and combined effects of GLY and MC-LR on the neurobehavior of exposed adult zebrafish and their untreated offspring (F1 larvae), as well as to explore the underlying mechanisms. In this study, six month old male zebrafish were exposed to 3.5 mg/L GLY and 35 μg/L MC-LR, alone and in combination, for 21 d. The results revealed that exposure to GLY and/or MC-LR decreased locomotor activity, heightened anxiety-like behaviors, and disrupted social interactions in adult zebrafish, thereby confirming their neurotoxic effects. Pathological damage, along with elevated levels of ROS, IL-1β, and caspase-3, were observed in the brains of the treated fish. RNA-seq analysis further revealed that GLY and/or MC-LR treatment induced widespread transcriptional changes in the zebrafish brain, potentially impacting a range of biological functions, including neurobehavior. Meanwhile, paternal exposure to GLY and MC-LR, either individually or in combination, inhibited the spontaneous movement of untreated embryos at 24 hpf and reduced swimming activity at 120 hpf. Transcriptome sequencing of larvae further elucidates the intricate mechanisms underlying the intergenerational neurotoxicity induced by GLY and/or MC-LR, and the metabolic alterations potentially play an important role in mediating this toxicity. Overall, these findings collectively provide robust evidence of intergenerational effects resulting from exposure to individual and combined GLY and MC-LR, especially regarding persistent impacts on behavioral parameters, which should be emphasized in future ecological and health risk assessments.

Because of their extremely low amount in complex samples, it is quite challenging to accurate determine residues of phosphorus-containing amino-acid-like herbicides (PAAHs) in food products. Here we develop novel core-shell mesoporous silica (CSMS) microspheres coated by titanium dioxide (CSMS@TiO 2 ) for extraction and enrichment of PAAHs in baby foods. After the dispersive solid phase extraction (d-SPE), sheathless capillary electrophoresis-mass spectrometry (sheathless CE-MS) is utilized to achieve efficient separation and sensitive detection. The synthesized CSMS@TiO 2 composites are characterized by various spectroscopic techniques, proving TiO 2 is uniformly distributed onto the channel surface of CSMS. The composites have essential features that are favorable for adsorption of the analytes on the material for d-SPE, including uniform diameter (1.0 μm with a shell thickness of 133 nm), large perpendicular mesopores (15.6 nm), high surface area (101.1 m 2 /g) and large pore volume (0.4 cm 3 /g). Taking glyphosate, glufosinate and their main metabolites (aminomethylphosphonic acid and 3-methylphosphinicopropionic acid) as analytes, selective and efficient enrichment is achieved by CSMS@TiO 2 -based d-SPE through the affinity interaction between titanium dioxide and phosphate groups. Sensitive detection of target compounds is achieved with low limits of quantitation (LOQs) between 0.3–1.6 ng/mL and excellent inter/intra-day repeatability. The compounds in nine different commercial baby foods from local markets are analyzed using the proposed method. Good recoveries of 82.3–102.6% are achieved with low RSDs ( n = 5) of 2.1–8.3%. Our study indicates that the proposed CSMS@TiO 2 -based d-SPE combined with sheathless CE-MS is an accurate and reliable approach for sensitive determination of trace-amount PAAHs and their metabolites in complex samples.

The extensive application of glyphosate (Gly) presents significant environmental and health risks, underscoring the necessity for advanced sensors to monitor Gly levels. In this study, a novel ratiometric fluorescent sensor (Eu-TTA@COOH-COF) was developed by coordinating Eu³ ⁺ ions with carboxylated covalent organic frameworks (COOH-COF) and grafting 2-thenoyltrifluoroacetone (TTA) ligand to enhance Eu³ ⁺ sensitization. Gly detection relied on its energy competition with the COF, which quenched the characteristic red emission of Eu³ ⁺ (613 nm), and electron transfer to the COOH-COF matrix amplifying the intrinsic blue fluorescence emission (435 nm) of the COF. This dual-signal response enabled precise Gly quantification with a detection limit of 0.049 μM. In addition, a hydrophobic electrospun film (Eu-TTA@COOH-COF@PVDF) with excellent luminescent property was prepared by encapsulating the Eu-TTA@COOH-COF fluorescent probe within a polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) matrix. Gly exposure triggered a concentration-dependent fluorescence shift from red to blue, which can be quantified using an RGB recognition applet in smartphones. This thin-film sensing device provides valuable insights for developing intelligent portable sensing platforms to enable on-site detection of pesticide residues.

Critical to sensor performance in real agricultural matrices are high interference resistance and prevention of false-positive/negative signals. To address this, a Z-scheme BiOI nanoflakes (NFs)/Au NPs/TiO2 NPs heterojunction was designed with photocurrent-polarity-switching capability, an inherent feature that could minimize interference from oxidative and reductive species. Subsequently integrated Fe3O4 NPs with catalase-mimicking activity suppressed the photocurrent response to baseline levels, substantially reducing the background noise. In the presence of glyphosate (Gly), the quenching effect was inhibited, leading to a “signal on–off–on” photoelectrochemical (PEC) detection mode. In addition, the inherent magnetism of Fe3O4 NPs enhanced the specificity by facilitating the efficient removal of nonbound interferents and enabling “split-type” PEC detection processes. This approach achieved Gly quantification within a linear range of 0.05–5 mg·L–1, with practical applicability demonstrated in three agricultural matrices. By strategically integrating heterojunction engineering with magnetic nanozyme signaling, this work establishes a PEC sensing paradigm exhibiting exceptional anti-interference capability.

Glyphosate, a widely used herbicide, and its primary metabolite aminomethyl phosphonic acid have been found to cause environmental and ecological issues and threaten human health. The conventional pretreatment method was insufficient for the extraction, concentration, and enrichment of trace substances, resulting in poor specificity. Thus, our objective was to develop a method for glyphosate pesticide detection using dummy molecularly imprinted solid-phase extraction (DMI-SPE) combined with liquid chromatography-tandem quadrupole mass spectrometry (DMI-SPE-LC/MS/MS). The sol-gel method was used to prepare the molecularly imprinted material, using glyphosine as the dummy template molecule, to achieve specific adsorption to glyphosate and reduce costs. The optimized polymerization conditions achieved maximum adsorption of 28.6 µg/mg glyphosate by the molecularly imprinted material. The established DMI-SPE-LC/MS/MS method was used to detect glyphosate and its metabolite (aminomethyl)phosphonic acid in tea. The concentration ranges of glyphosate and (aminomethyl)phosphonic acid (from 0.05 to 4 µg/mL) were linear with correlation coefficients of 0.999 and 0.991, respectively. The recoveries of (aminomethyl)phosphonic acid at three spiked levels ranged from 79.95% to 83.74%, with RSDs between 6.40% and 7.45%, while the recoveries of glyphosate ranged from 98.69% to 106.26%, with RSDs between 0.91% and 1.18%. Our results demonstrate that the developed DMI-SPE-LC/MS/MS method achieves high sensitivity and specific detection of glyphosate and its metabolite (aminomethyl)phosphonic acid in tea matrices.
