The determination of isoquinoline alkaloids (IQAs) is crucial for maximizing the pharmacological benefits of Rhizoma coptidis (RC). In this study, the dendritic silica sphere (dSiO 2 ) was covalently modified with cyanuric chloride (CNCl) to synthesize a porous dNSiO 2 -CNCl NP. The fluorescence of berberine (Ber), palmatine (Pal), coptisine (Cop), and jatrorrhizine (Jat) was remarkably enhanced by dNSiO 2 -CNCl NP for at least 38-fold, inspiring the accurate determination of the isoquinoline total alkaloids (IQTAs) in RC using fluorometry. The method exhibited good linearity within the concentration range of 0.005 to 1 μM, with a limit of detection (LOD) and quantitation (LOQ) of 0.001 and 0.004 μM. Specially, Jat was discovered to form a stable covalent linkage with dNSiO 2 -CNCl, showing an innovative and enduring fluorescent nanoparticle derived from a natural product. Furthermore, using dNSiO 2 -CNCl as a substrate for fluorescence enhancement and a dispersive solid-phase extraction (d-SPE) sorbent, a fluorescence-mediated HPLV-UV method was developed to monitor Ber, Pal, and Cop in serum. Rapid qualitative analysis using fluorescence was initially performed. In chromatography analysis, the linear range for Cop was 0.20 to 10 μM, with LOD and LOQ at 0.035 and 0.110 μM, while Pal and Ber showed good linearity in the range of 0.05 to 10 μM, with LODs and LOQs at 0.013 and 0.040 μM. The spiked recovery rates ranged from 90.4% to 99.8% for the three IQAs, with intra-day precision below 7.9% and inter-day precision below 9.9%. The dual-functional dNSiO 2 -CNCl NP exhibited promising prospect in fluorescence sensing and separation applications for detecting drugs.

In recent years, loading antioxidants onto inorganic nanoparticles has attracted increasing interest. However, the existing studies not only have low antioxidant loading efficiency, but also ignore the relationship between structural changes and antioxidant properties before and after antioxidant modification, greatly limiting the improvement of the antioxidant properties of composites and their application scope. In this work, we successfully prepared bis-hindered phenolic antioxidants containing silica hydroxyl groups (Bis-mAO) and loaded them onto silicon dioxide (SiO 2 ) to get the nanocomposites (Bis-mAO-SiO 2 ). The melt blending method further prepared the corresponding polyphenylene sulfide (PPS)/Bis-mAO-SiO 2 composites. The results showed that the higher antioxidant loading and more suitable antioxidant structure made Bis-mAO-SiO 2 possess excellent antioxidant properties. The prepared PPS/Bis-mAO-SiO 2 composites remained stable under high temperatures and oxygen environments. Impressively, the maximum weight loss rate temperature of PPS/Bis-mAO-SiO 2 was increased by 11.60 °C compared to that of PPS, and after accelerated thermal oxidation at 220 °C for 24 h, the relative intensity ratio between O and C of PPS/Bis-mAO-SiO 2 only increased to 0.086, much lower than 0.132 for PPS. Moreover, the viscosity of PPS/Bis-mAO-SiO 2 only increased by 29.05 % and 88.75 % after accelerated thermal oxidation at 220 °C for 12, 24 h. Compared, PPS's viscosity increased substantially by 79.22 % and 250.3 %, respectively. This meant that the Bis-mAO-SiO 2 successfully achieved a synergistic integration of high antioxidant properties and thermal stability, implying that the work offered a strategy for fabricating high-temperature resistant antioxidant composites.

Anti/de-icing coatings to equipment surface are emergingly becoming an essential protection against ice formation and accumulation, especially when they serve in harsh environments. Herein, a novel approach for obtaining photothermal superhydrophobic anti/de-icing FCF-BP/SiO 2 coating with prominent abrasion resistance properties was presented. The fluoroalkyl silane and amino silane were polymerized at elevated temperatures and then closely combined with the resin and curing agent to obtain a film-forming polymer. This polymerization process involved the reaction of amino group on the surface of the modified fluorocarbon resin with the isocyanate group in the curing agent. Then the polypyrrole-coated basalt scales (BP) and SiO 2 NPs were employed to the modified coating system to construct a wear-resistant microscopic surface structure by the inverse infusion process (IIP). The water contact angle (CA) and the sliding angle (SA) of the tested coating was up to 155° ± 2° and 1.5° ± 0.5°, respectively, delaying the icing time to 656 s and maintaining the ice adhesion strength lower than 20 kPa after several icing-deicing cycles. It was verified that the FCF-BP/SiO 2 coating remained superhydrophobic and exhibited excellent mechanical durability even after 300 times of abrasion with sandpaper and 100 times of tape-peeling. Even at −10 °C, the frost (accumulated at −10 °C for 2 h) or ice cube (0.5 g) on the FCF-BP/SiO 2 coating could be effectively removed by 1.00 Sun within approximately 309 s and 760 s, respectively. This provides potential applications for fabricating functional anti/de-icing materials in some prospective fields including marine or aviation fields.

Biogas slurry, an inevitable outcome of anaerobic digestion (AD), is a treatment burden for urban environmental management. In this study, two kinds of biogas slurry (slurry J and slurry C), collected from the AD plants in Japan and China, were treated using novel TiZrO 4 @Cu and TiZrO 4 @Cu@SiO 2 multilayered hollow spheres containing Cu sub-nanoclusters as the catalyst. The results showed that the chemical oxygen demand (COD) was removed by 63 % for slurry J and 44 % for slurry C after 5 h. The Cu sub-nanoclusters acted as co-catalysts and active centers, facilitating rapid electron transfer to oxygen molecules and forming highly reactive •O 2 − and •OH species (Use slurry J as the based solution). These free radicals cleaved the interconnecting bonds between benzene rings, disintegrated the ring structure, formed intermediate compounds such as n-hexylic acid, and ultimately mineralized organic pollutants in biogas slurry into CO 2 and H 2 O. At the same time, TiZrO 4 @Cu@SiO 2 had excellent stability due to the protection of the SiO 2 shell and reduced threefold Cu leaching than TiZrO 4 @Cu. The COD removal rate was always 60 % in six cycles in the slurry J. The new catalyst ensured the high performance of catalytic air oxidation at low temperatures, which has significant potential as an environmentally friendly and energy-saving method for organic wastewater treatment.

Herein, core–shell Ag@SiO 2 /TiO 2 nanocomposites were synthesized and applied to activate peroxydisulfate (PDS) for wastewater purification. The Ag core and Ag-doped TiO 2 shell were obtained by stober method and calcination method. The dispersion degree and size of Ag in TiO 2 would influence the oxygen vacancy. Ag enhanced the visible absorption of TiO 2 and activated PDS. Improved degradation performance was attributed to enhanced PDS activation by photogenerated e − , which separated h + and thus promoted methyl orange(MO) degradation. Reactive oxidative species were verified under dark and light conditions via quenching experiments and electron paramagnetic resonance tests, demonstrating SO 4 •– , h + , O 2 •– , and 1 O 2 were formed in light, whereasSO 4 •– , •OH, O 2 •– , and 1 O 2 were responsible for MO degradation under dark conditions. The Ag@SiO 2 /TiO 2 /PDS/light system showed selectivity for removal of cationic dyes (e.g., methylene blue and malachite green) through adsorption and photocatalysis, whereas anionic dyes (e.g., MO) were degraded by photocatalysis alone. Besides, we found excess adsorption of micropollutant onto catalyst may be adverse to the activation of PDS. Therefore, the adsorption of oxidant (such as PDS) onto the catalyst surface would be beneficial for catalytic activation and micropollutant degradation, especially onto active sites. This work aims to provide a new avenue for core-shell structure catalyst synthesis in wastewater purification.

A high-temperature-resistance insulating layer with high thermal conductivity is the key component for fabricating the instant metal-based electric heating tube. However, it is still a challenge for materials to possess excellent high-temperature resistance, superior insulating property, and high thermal conductivity at the same time. Here, a novel SiO 2 bridged AlN/MSR composite based on methylphenyl silicone resin (MSR) and AlN filler was reported. MSR with a high thermal decomposition temperature of 452.0 °C and a high withstand voltage of 5.6 kV was first synthesized by adjusting the contents of alkyl and phenyl groups . The superior high-temperature resistant insulating property is 3.7 and 2.4 times higher than the national standard requirement of 1.5 kV and commercial silicone resin, respectively. The hydrogen bonds formed between SiO 2 , AlN, and MSR and the electrostatic adsorption between SiO 2 and AlN can remarkably improve the uniform dispersion of AlN in MSR and thus enhance the insulating property, thermal conductivity , and thermal stability. With the addition of 2 wt% SiO 2 and 50 wt% AlN, the SiO 2 -AlN/MSR composite exhibits an extremely high withstand voltage of 7.3 kV, a high thermal conductivity of 0.553 W·m −1 ·K −1 , and an enhanced decomposition temperature of 475 °C. The superior insulating property and thermal conductivity are 4.9 and 1.3 times higher than the national standard requirement and pure MSR, respectively. This novel composite shows great potential for application in the fields requiring integrated superior insulating property, high-temperature resistance, and high thermal conductivity.

We present a design of middle-infrared modulation absorbers based on vanadium dioxide (VO2). By using the electron beam evaporation technique, the Ag/SiO2/VO2/Ag/VO2 multilayer structure can achieve double band strong absorption in the mid-infrared, and dynamically adjust the absorption performance through VO2. The simulation results demonstrate a remarkable absorption rate of 91.8% and 98.9% at 9.09 µm and 10.25 µm, respectively. The high absorption is elucidated by analyzing the field strength distribution in each layer. Meanwhile, based on the phase change characteristics of VO2, the absorber has exceptional thermal regulation, with a remarkable 78% heat regulation range in the mid-infrared band. The size altering of the absorbing layer is effective in enhancing and optimizing the structure's absorption performance. The structure is used to characterize probe molecules of CV and R6 G by mid-infrared spectroscopy, which illustrates an impressive limit of detection (LOD) of 10−7 M for both substances. These results provide valuable insights for designing future high-performance tunable optical devices.

In this paper, we present a method to enhance the stability of Fe–N–C electrocatalysts, known for their significant oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) activity and positioned as promising alternatives to commercial noble metal-based catalysts. Despite the favorable ORR activity, Fe–N–C suffers from inadequate stability in acidic media, primarily attributed the loss of active FeN 4 sites resulted from Fe-demetalation. However, recent investigation reveals that pyridine N exhibits remarkable stability in retaining Fe atoms. To address this, we achieved a high proportion of pyridine N doping in carbon nanofibers through a process involving nano-SiO 2 shell coating and electrospinning. The nano-SiO 2 shell coating method demonstrates efficacy and versatility in transforming pyrrole-type FeN 4 into pyridine-type FeN 4 , irrespective of the origin material being trivalent or divalent Fe, whether organic or inorganic.

The increasing demand for improving the performance of optical devices and the development of nanotechnology have driven research on diffusion films. The preparation of diffusion films with well-defined microstructures can achieve uniform diffusion and scattering of light, thereby improving the efficiency and performance of optical devices. In this study, diffusion films with high transmittance and haze were prepared using PMMA@TiO2@SiO2 (P@T@S) composite microspheres, and the PMMA microspheres and nanoparticles were combined through electrostatic attraction. As compared with PMMA microspheres, the P@T@S composite microspheres displayed better heat resistance as well as swelling resistance. Optical performance data showed that the P@T@S diffusion film had the perfect optical performance with a transmittance up to 90.5% and a haze of 88.3%. The excellent light diffusion effect of the P@T@S diffusion film was experimentally demonstrated, with the light through the film not only displaying the largest area but also maintaining a relatively high brightness. Our findings can provide reference and guidance for further development of light diffusion films, which are of potential application in optoelectronic devices.

This study introduces a novel water-insoluble dispersant for coal water slurry (CWS), namely, a poly(sodium styrene sulfonate)-graftedSiO2nanoparticle (SiO2-g-PSSNa). SiO2-g-PSSNa was synthesized by combining the surface acylation reaction with surface-initiated atom transfer radical polymerization (SI-ATRP). Fourier transform infrared spectrometry (FTIR), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), energy dispersive spectrometer (EDS), nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) verified that SiO2-g-PSSNa with the desired structure was successfully obtained. Afterwards, the performance of SiO2-g-PSSNa as a dispersant in CWS preparation was evaluated. The results indicated that the optimal dosage of SiO2-g-PSSNa was 0.3%. Compared to the famous commercial products, PSSNa and lignosulfonate (LS), SiO2-g-PSSNa exhibits improved viscosity reduction performance. When SiO2-g-PSSNa was used as the dispersant, the maximum coal loading of CWS was 64.2%, which was higher than LS (63.4%) and PSSNa (63.9%). All CWSs obtained in this study were pseudoplastic fluids and more consistent with the Herschel–Bulkley rheological model. The turbiscan stability index (TSI) of CWS prepared with SiO2-g-PSSNa was 0.05, which was significantly lower than CWSs obtained from PSSNa (0.30) and LS (0.36). Therefore, SiO2-g-PSSNa also exhibits excellent stability performance. This result was confirmed by rod penetration tests. The underlying mechanism was also clarified by various measurements, such as contact angle, zeta potential, EDS and low-field nuclear magnetic resonance spectra (low-field NMR). The results reveal that SiO2-g-PSSNa can adsorbed onto the coal surface. SiO2-g-PSSNa possesses a special branched structure, which bears a higher charge density as compared to linear ones with approximate chemical composition. As a result, coal particles adsorbed with SiO2-g-PSSNa exhibit more electronegativity. With the enhancement of the electrostatic repulsive between coal particles, the apparent viscosity was lowered and the static stability was improved. This study demonstrated that solubility in water is not an essential factor in engineering the dispersant. Densely charged groups are probably more important.

In view of the serious harm and widespread pollution caused by deoxynivalenol (DON), it is crucial to quantify its presence in the food safety assessment process. Here, we designed a core-shell-satellite nano assembly structure as a probe, composed of an anisotropic AuNR@Ag core, an ultra-thin SiO 2 layer and a high surface coverage AuNPs satellites, which showed outstanding SERS activity and high stability. Anti-DON antibodies were modified on the surface of the prepared core-shell-satellite nano-assembly structure as SERS immunoprobe for DON specific detection using SERS-based lateral flow immunoassay (LFIA) with the advantages of simplicity, rapidity, and high sensitivity. Under optimal conditions, the detection limit for detecting DON using the SERS-LFIA method was 0.053 fg/mL, and the linear detection ranged from 0.1 fg/mL to 1 μg/mL. The SERS-LFIA strips based on AuNR@Ag@SiO 2 -AuNP nanostructures demonstrated the great potential for quick quantitative DON detection, providing a reference for trace detection of highly toxin mycotoxins.

Nowadays, modern industries are rapidly developing, which is caused by a significant amount of high-temperature exhaust gases in the atmosphere, and it contains complex pollutants, formaldehyde, solid particles, and harmful gases that are discharged. For this scenario, the conventional filtering materials are challenged for prevention of high-temperature exhaust gas formaldehyde volatilization because they are composed of metal and inorganic materials caused by oxidation-prone and resilient wear. A recently introduced technique to fabricate composite nanofiber membranes with high strength, modulus, efficiency, low resistance for high-temperature exhaust gas filtering, and its capability to adsorb formaldehyde was discussed in this study. Initially, Polyamide acid (PAA) solution and silicon dioxide (SiO 2 ) nanomicrospheres are used as raw materials for producing electrostatic and thermal imidization Polyimide (PI/SiO 2 ) nanofiber membranes (NFMs) in co-spinning processes. Furthermore, zeoliticimidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) was transferred into PI/SiO 2 NFMs and produced the PI/SiO2@ZIF-8 NFM. These findings show that adding SiO 2 nanomicrospheres reduced the fiber packing density as well as air filtration resistance, and PI/SiO2@ZIF-8 NFMs achieve up to 99.703% filtration efficiency and maintain a pressure drop of 178.7 Pa. The weight loss rate is only 4% at temperatures above 300 °C, and the heat resistance is outstanding. Moreover, the PI/SiO2@ZIF-8 NFMs demonstrate a good formaldehyde adsorption performance with a saturation adsorption capacity for formaldehyde within 4 hours of 41.58 mg/g, which is more than 12 times that of the PI/SiO2 NFMs without ZIF-8.
