Wound healing is a complex and dynamic biological process that requires meticulous management to ensure optimal outcomes. Traditional wound dressings, such as gauze and bandages, although commonly used, often fall short in their frequent need for replacement, lack of real-time monitoring and absence of anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties, which can lead to increased risk of infection and delayed healing. Here, we address these limitations by introducing an innovative hydrogel dressing, named PHDNN6, to combine wireless Bluetooth temperature monitoring and light-triggered nitric oxide (NO) release to enhance wound healing and management. The PHDNN6 hydrogel is based on a poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) matrix, integrated with methacrylated and dopamine-grafted hyaluronic acid (HA–MA–DA), which allows the dressing to be highly responsive to changes in wound temperature, enabling continuous and real-time monitoring of the wound microenvironment wirelessly. Besides, PHDNN6 is embedded with photothermal polydopamine nanoparticles (PDA NPs) that are loaded with a NO donor, N,N′-di-sec-butyl-N,N′-dinitroso-1,4-phenylenediamine (BNN6). When exposed to near-infrared (NIR) laser irradiation, these PDA@BNN6 nanoparticles release NO to provide potent antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects. The integration of continuous wireless temperature monitoring with NO release within a single hydrogel dressing represents a significant advancement in clinical wound care. This dual-functional platform not only provides real-time diagnostic capabilities but also offers therapeutic interventions to manage wound infections and promote tissue regeneration. Our research highlights the potential of PHDNN6 to revolutionize wound management by offering a comprehensive solution that addresses both the diagnostic and therapeutic needs in wound healing.

Traditional microneedle (MN) technology offers unique advantages in treating wound infections; however, its single-function design lacks the capability for real-time monitoring of wound conditions, often resulting in uncontrolled drug release. Herein, an anti-infective and intelligent MN patch (SP-CSMN) integrating three functional modules is developed, including temperature monitoring, Bluetooth wireless communication, and responsive drug release. The patch employed chitosan (CS) as a porous substrate, filled with temperature-sensitive poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) to encapsulate and release the antibiotic rifampicin. With the integrated sensing chip, SP-CSMN enabled continuous temperature monitoring and real-time feedback via smartphone Bluetooth communication. When the wound temperature exceeds 36.5 °C for 6 h, the system can automatically identify the infection occurrence and activate the heating module to trigger PNIPAM contraction, triggering rifampicin release. This self-sensing and intelligent release cycles can repeat throughout its life-cycle. The SP-CSMN demonstrated precisely temperature-induced drug release and enhanced antibacterial activities against Staphylococcus aureus ( S. aureus ) and Escherichia coli ( E. coli ) in vitro. Furthermore, it sensitively monitored wound temperature changes in infected mice and significantly accelerated wound healing via controlled drug delivery. This advanced MN system offers a promising solution for efficient management of bacterial wound infections.

Wearable sensors are the development trend in the future iteration of medical devices , in which, flexible temperature sensors with high resolution, fast response speed, and good reliability under deformations, are one of the much important devices. In this study, a nano multilayer sensing structured fiber temperature sensor is fabricated via in situ coating reduced graphene oxide (rGO) and chitosan (CS) on the surface of stretchable polyurethane fiber (PF) by a layer-by-layer self-assembly method. The introduction of CS not only enhances the temperature sensitivity (with a temperature coefficient of −1.379 %‧°C −1 in the range of 30–60 °C) of the rGO-based fiber sensors but also greatly increases the mechanical stability of the nanofibrous membrane. Most importantly, the fiber-shaped temperature sensor shows a fast response time (2.4 s) and recovery time (3.9 s) to temperature. Moreover, the sensor achieves a high temperature resolution of 0.1 °C. Made from a simple and low-cost process, the fiber-like devices can be easily integrated into items such as gloves or face masks to monitor the real-time temperature changes. The results demonstrate the great potential of rGO-based fiber sensors for applications in human healthcare monitoring.

The three-component thermochromic materials have been widely used for temperature monitoring due to abundant colors and thermochromic temperatures. Nevertheless, there are still limitations in depicting broader temperature variations. So we propose to construct a double-stage thermochromic response strategy. We synthesize thermochromic microcapsules with dual thermochromic temperatures by in situ polymerization using melamine–formaldehyde (MF) resin as the encapsulating shell. The thermochromic microcapsules exhibit color changes from pink or blue to white under the control of 6′-(Diethylamino)-1′,3′-dimethylfluoran (DDF) and the crystal violet lactone (CVL), respectively. Furthermore, the thermochromic microcapsules exhibit exceptional thermal properties and possess a uniform spherical morphology. Simultaneously, a double-stage thermochromic fabric is produced using screen printing techniques in order to track variations in the surrounding temperature. The double-stage thermochromic fabric has the ability to alter its color state at 25 °C and 35 °C and further divide the temperature range into four segments: below 20 °C, 20 °C–25 °C, 25–35 °C, and above 35 °C. More interestingly, the double-stage thermochromic fabric still retains the thermochromic property even after being heated and cooled 25 times or immersed in various organic solvents for 24 h. This remarkable characteristic of the double-stage thermochromic fabric offers a promising avenue for temperature display across a wide range.

Natural polymers are considered powerful candidate for preparing a new generation of intelligent sensors, however, their application in fire environment is limited restricted by the low flame retardancy and thermal stability. Herein, we developed a novel flexible film (SSGP) entirely composed of bio-mass, namely natural silk nanofibers, sodium alginate and phytic acid, via solution casting and self-assembly strategy. It exhibited reliable tensile properties (11.01 MPa), high flame retardancy (LOI reached 38 %), and thermal stability. Specifically, SSGP not only showed sensitive and reversible response at different temperatures (50-125 °C) with a GF of 10.8, but also triggered warning within 2.2 s of being exposed to a flame without being incinerated. Moreover, SSGP responded to humidity changes in the environment (22-94 % RH) and could be used for respiratory monitoring, with a response/recovery time of only 0.76 s/1.01 s. Additionally, SSGP based on natural polymers retain degradability (39.8 % within 30 days). Thus, SSGP had the potential to be integrated as a core component into sensor for real-time monitoring of ambient temperature and respiration of personnel in steelworks, fire rescue, battlefield and other flame environment. This study may provide new insights into the application of natural polymers in the flexible multifunctional sensor.

Approximately 4.5% to 7.0% of hospitalized patients suffer from pressure ulcers. Mitigating risks for pressure ulcers through sensors remains a challenge and a high requirement. A simple, low-cost, battery-free, multi-parameter passive wireless flexible sensor (MPWFS) for all-around pressure and temperature monitoring to prevent pressure ulcers is developed. The pressure sensing unit is fabricated with functional gradient-structured balsa wood and has high sensitivity of 0.34 kPa −1 with a wide detection range of 0–20 kPa. The temperature sensing unit, which is 0.4 mm × 0.2 mm, is embedded in the surface of the pressure sensing unit, enabling temperature monitoring with a resolution of 0.1 °C. The flexible Radio Frequency energy-harvesting unit, data acquisition, and processing, as well as Bluetooth-Low-Energy wireless transmission, are integrated within a 20 mm × 20 mm unit. It acquires continuous temperature and pressure data without a battery at any position more than 1 m away from the power transmitter. Moreover, the combination of the sensor array design with a mobile terminal provides the MPWFS's various benefits, including tracking changes in the supine posture, warning about pressure ulcers, and monitoring falls out of bed. This study presents a new method for long-term bedridden patient care.

Various products, including foods and pharmaceuticals, are sensitive to temperature fluctuations. Thus, temperature monitoring during production, transportation, and storage is critical. Facile indicators are required to monitor temperature conditions via color changes in real time. This study aimed to prepare and apply thiol-functionalized covalent organic frameworks (COFs) as a novel indicator for monitoring thermal history and temperature abuse. The COFs underwent obvious color changes from bright yellow to purple after exposure to different temperatures for varying durations. The reaction kinetics are analyzed under isothermal conditions, which reveal that the order of reaction rates is k −20°C < k 4°C < k 20°C < k 35°C < k 55°C . The activation energy ( E a ) of the COFs is calculated using the Arrhenius equation as 50.71 kJ moL −1 . The COFs are capable of sensitive color changes and offer a broad temperature tracking range, thereby demonstrating their application potential for the monitoring of temperature and time exposure history during production, transportation, and storage. This excellent performance thermal history indicator also shows promise for expanding the application field of COFs.

Electron donor–acceptor (D–A) molecules are emerging tools for designing sensitive luminogens, attracting significant research attention. However, due to poor quantum yields under certain conditions, current D–A fluorophores often suffer from fluorescence quenching in practical applications. Developing new D–A dyes and functional composites is crucial for expanding their applications. Here, a novel donor–acceptor type flavonoid dye molecule, namely “AFL”, exhibiting both polarity-dependent fluorescence emission wavelength shift and viscosity-dependent intensity change, for polarity measurement and temperature sensing is designed and synthesized. Because the intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) can be enhanced by a decrease of excited state energy caused in high-polarity organic solvents, AFL undergoes fluorescence emission wavelength shift that shows fluorescence color response to solvents of different polarities and hence differentiates between them. Moreover, the actual temperature can be monitored by the as-designed AFL@tetradecanoic acid (AFL@TA) sensor. By combining with TA, viscosity sensitively changes upon the temperature change of insoluble composites, thus realizing the fluorescence intensity response to temperature. Remarkable recyclable performance and satisfactory mechanical properties are integrated. This study provides a promising approach to developing a new D–A fluorescent probe and furnishes perspectives on the potential of such D–A type flavonoid material in stimuli-responsive systems with a focus on visualization sensing technology.

Flexible temperature sensors with high resolution and good reliability under deformation are a major research focus for wearable electronic devices for skin temperature monitoring. In this study, a fiber-like temperature sensor is fabricated by in situ growing poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) on the surface of thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) fiber. The temperature sensor achieves a high sensitivity of 0.95%·°C–1 with a high linearity between 20 and 40 °C. Most importantly, the sensor achieves a high temperature resolution of 0.2 °C. Due to its structure, the temperature-sensitive fiber is easily embedded into textiles. By sewing the fiber into normal textiles in an S-shape, the interference of strain can be nearly avoided, even when the textile is stretched to 140%. Also, the obtained sensors can monitor skin temperature during exercise, which demonstrates the potential of the sensor’s application in healthcare and disease diagnosis.

Firefighting protective clothing is an essential equipment that can protect firefighters from burn injuries during the firefighting process. However, it is still a challenge to detect the damage of firefighting protective clothing at an early stage when firefighters are exposed to excessively high temperature in fire cases. Herein, an ultralight self-powered fire alarm electronic textile (SFA e-textile) based on conductive aerogel fiber that comprises calcium alginate (CA), Fe3O4 nanoparticles (Fe3O4 NPs), and silver nanowires (Ag NWs) was developed, which achieved ultrasensitive temperature monitoring and energy harvesting in firefighting clothing. The resulting SFA e-textile was integrated into firefighting protective clothing to realize wide-range temperature sensing at 100–400 °C and repeatable fire warning capability, which could timely transmit an alarm signal to the wearer before the firefighting protective clothing malfunctioned in extreme fire environments. In addition, a self-powered fire self-rescue location system was further established based on the SFA e-textile that can help rescuers search and rescue trapped firefighters in fire cases. The power in the self-powered fire location system was offered by an SFA e-textile-based triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG). This work provided a useful design strategy for the preparation of ultralight wearable temperature-monitoring SFA e-textile used in firefighting protective clothing.

In the realm of field-programmable gate array (FPGA) design, temperature emerges as a pivotal parameter that critically impacts system stability, reliability, energy efficiency, and fault diagnosis capabilities. Despite continuous advancements in temperature measurement technologies, real-time, rapid, and high-precision monitoring of FPGA surface temperature remains a central challenge in ensuring stable system operation, urgently requiring effective solutions. In this work, a fiber-optic temperature sensor for monitoring the surface temperature of an FPGA has been developed, featuring an upconversion luminescence-enhanced fiber microsphere structure consisting of upconversion nanoparticles (UCNPs) with polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), ensuring high-precision temperature measurement capability. To investigate its sensing performance, the fiber-optic microsphere sensor was evaluated within the temperature range of 300-350 K using fluorescence intensity ratio (FIR) technology. The results revealed a peak relative sensitivity of 1.27% K-1 at 300 K and demonstrated a detection accuracy superior to 0.5°C. The fiber-optic sensor was positioned on an FPGA chip and monitored for temperature changes through multiple consecutive power-on and cooling cycles. Comparison with the FPGA board's built-in temperature sensor showed high consistency in operating temperatures. Notably, the fiber-optic sensor demonstrated superior resistance to external environmental interference. The results indicate that the developed sensor, from material design to device application, has great potential for precise and stable temperature monitoring in FPGA applications.

Wearable devices have great potential for development in the fields of human health detection and human-computer interaction due to its flexibility and portability. In this work, Firstly, the resistance response performance of paper/Cu/Al 2 O 3 to temperature is optimized by changing the sputtering time of Al 2 O 3 . Combining the resistance change and stability after one month, paper/Cu/Al 2 O 3 films with 1 min Al 2 O 3 layer is selected. Then, temperature sensor based on optimized paper/Cu/Al 2 O 3 and graphene/PVDF composite temperature-sensitive layers is fabricated. The sensor shows negative temperature coefficient, high temperature response and stability, which provides significant advantages in the field of temperature monitoring. The fastest response/recovery time of the sensor is 1.4 s and 10.48 s respectively, which is fast and reliable in capturing the temperature changes and thus has the capability of real-time temperature monitoring. Another outstanding feature of the sensor is its high linearity to temperature fluctuations (R 2 =0.947). This feature suggests that the sensor enables real-time resistance-temperature interaction. In addition, its practical applications will be explored. The sensor can quickly sense the temperature of fingers, hot water, and working mobile phones. At the same time, the excellent performance of the sensor enables it to achieve the function of illuminating the LED. It lays the foundation for the application of temperature sensors in flexible wearable device applications.
