Owing to the unique mechano-optical response, mechanoluminescence (ML) materials possess dynamic, sensitive, visual, and recoverable strain sensing capabilities. However, the dilemma of lacking outstanding ML materials with high detection precision under micro deformations still exists, thereby hindering advanced applications in multi-angle and multidimensional scenarios. Herein, a novel Pr 3+ -doped perovskite oxide (NaTaO 3 :Pr 3+ )-based composite elastic thin film is developed, which achieves ultrasensitive ML responses to both microscale compressive and tensile strains. Compared with the record of LiTaO 3 :Tb 3+ , the corresponding deformation detection limit has been improved by five times, reaching 0.01%, which is comparable to the performance of the widely used piezoresistive and capacitive sensors. The results reveal that the ML originates from the interaction between adjacent defects and the varying local piezoelectric fields near Pr Na O 9 and Pr Ta O 6 polyhedra. Most notably, the strain and ML demonstrate identical distributions on a 3D-printed model coated with NaTaO 3 :Pr 3+ thin film even under micro deformation less than 0.4%, highlighting the significant potential of NaTaO 3 :Pr 3+ for advanced 3D microstrain sensing applications. This work provides convincing insights into the investigation of ML mechanisms through local trap and piezoelectricity analyses, along with an exemplificative application in advanced strain sensing and visualization at microscopic and multidimensional scales.

Indium zinc oxide (IZO) ceramic targets have been extensively studied due to the advantage of high film mobility and controllable resistivity. As the base materials used for IZO ceramic targets, it is crucial to synthesize IZO composite nanoparticles by an effective technique. Herein, praseodymium (Pr)-doped IZO composite nanoparticles are fabricated by co-precipitation method. The influencing factors for the synthesis of the composite nanoparticles are analyzed, and the nanoparticles show the best properties of most uniform particle shape, size, and elemental distribution under the preparation conditions of ammonia or sodium hydroxide as an alkaline precipitant, pH of 7, and sintering temperature of 800°C. The phase composition, micro-morphology, compositional homogeneity, and chemical bonding and functional group changes of precursors and sintered particles are analyzed. Meanwhile, combined with the thermogravimetric - differential scanning calorimetry (TG-DSC) analysis of the decomposition process of the hydroxide precursor during heating, the crystallization activation energy for the transformation of the precursor from the amorphous to the crystalline state was calculated by the Kissinger and Ozawa method. Based on the concept of crystallization fraction, the crystallization mechanism of the mixed particles of precursors is explored. In addition, ceramic targets prepared from the IZO nanoparticles by this method exhibit excellent uniform elemental distribution and fine grain (<4 µm), high density (>99%), and low resistivity (<4 mΩ·cm). This work provides an efficient strategy for the preparation of IZO composite nanoparticles for applications in advanced photoelectric ceramic targets.

Bacterial infections caused by the growth and reproduction of pathogenic bacteria on wounds are one of the main reasons that hinder wound healing. Antibacterial wound dressings protect wounds from bacterial infections. Herein, we developed a polymeric antibacterial composite film using polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and sodium alginate (SA) as the substrate. The film used praseodymium-doped yttrium orthosilicate (Y2SiO5: Pr3+, YSO-Pr) to convert visible light into short-wavelength ultraviolet light (UVC) to kill bacteria. The YSO-Pr/PVA/SA showed upconversion luminescence in photoluminescence spectrometry tests, and the emitted UVC inhibited Gram-positive (Staphylococcus aureus) and Gram-negative (Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa) bacteria in antibacterial tests. In vivo animal tests showed that YSO-Pr/PVA/SA is effective and safe for inhibiting bacteria in real wounds. The in vitro cytotoxicity test further confirmed the good biocompatibility of the antibacterial film. In addition, YSO-Pr/PVA/SA exhibited sufficient tensile strength. Overall, this study demonstrates the potential of upconversion materials for use in medical dressings.
