To address the limitations of conventional microwave absorbers, such as high density, inferior mechanical stability, and narrow effective absorption bandwidth, aramid nanofibers (ANF) were employed as the three-dimensional skeleton, and spinel CoFe 2 O 4 nanoparticles served as the magnetic loss component. A series of ANF/CoFe 2 O 4 composite aerogels with different particle loadings (15 wt%, 25 wt%, 35 wt%, 45 wt%) were fabricated via deprotonation exfoliation, surface modification, solvothermal reaction, and freeze-drying routes. The microstructure, phase composition, chemical valence states, and electromagnetic parameters were systematically characterized. The results show that CoFe 2 O 4 nanoparticles are uniformly anchored on the ANF network with favorable crystallinity and stable elemental valence. With increasing loading, the dielectric permittivity rises first and then declines, while the magnetic permeability increases monotonically. The 25 wt% sample achieves optimal dielectric-magnetic impedance matching. At a matching thickness of only 3.32 mm, its minimum reflection loss reaches −50.71 dB, and the effective absorption bandwidth is 4.73 GHz, covering the X–Ku bands. The excellent absorption performance originates from the synergistic effect of multi-scale scattering in the porous network, enhanced interfacial polarization, and combined dielectric–magnetic loss. This lightweight and robust ANF-based aerogel provides a promising candidate for high-efficiency electromagnetic wave absorption materials.

Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA)-based hydrogels suffer from insufficient mechanical strength, while aramid nanofibers (ANF) have intrinsic insulation that limits their sensing applications, and the synergistic effect of composite fillers remains underexplored. This study aims to develop a multifunctional PVA/ANF/NaCl composite organohydrogel for high-performance flexible sensors. The gel was fabricated via freeze–thaw crosslinking, solvent exchange and NaCl impregnation, with systematic investigations of its microstructure, mechanical, electrical and multifunctional sensing properties, and a corresponding triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) and self-powered handwriting recognition system were constructed. Results show that 2% ANF significantly enhances the gel’s mechanical performance, 0.5 M NaCl achieves optimal mechanical-electrical balance, the gel-based sensor exhibits excellent distance, pressure and strain sensing with high cyclic stability, the TENG delivers stable electrical output, and the recognition system achieves 95% accuracy on the test set. This work provides a new material and design strategy for advanced flexible electronic devices.

MXene-based materials have been widely studied recently for effective electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding due to the prominent intrinsic electrical conductivity . Nevertheless, the poor mechanical performance of pure MXene films limits the practical application in EMI shielding. Thus, we integrate MXene with aramid nanofiber (ANF) to develop a composite film with layered structure through a simple vacuum-assisted filtration method. The resulting ANF/MXene (20/80) composite exhibits a high electrical conductivity of 879.0 S/cm, EMI shielding effectiveness (SE) of 40.6 dB and specific SE (SSE/ t , SE divided by the density and thickness) of 50,491 dB∙cm 2 ∙g −1 with an ultrathin thickness of 3.2 μm. Furthermore, the ANF/MXene (60/40) realizes a balance between mechanical properties and EMI shielding performance with the strength of 201.3 MPa and SE of 28.1 dB, which enables the ANF/MXene composite films as promising EMI shielding materials with excellent mechanical robustness.

With the further advancement of communication technology and wearable devices, it is imperative to develop multifunctional electromagnetic shielding materials. In this context, we propose a feasible approach to construct liquid metal-enhanced poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA)-aramid nanofiber (ANF)/MXene hydrogels for electromagnetic shielding and sensing. By leveraging the excellent conductivity of MXene nanosheets, we successfully prepared three-dimensional flexible PVA-ANF/MXene@Ga hydrogels (PAMG) through the three-dimensional network structure of PVA hydrogels and the mechanical reinforcement of ANFs. With the phenomenon of charge polarization relaxation, multiple interfaces are formed among MXene@Ga, ANFs, and PVA, thus enhancing the mechanical properties and electromagnetic shielding efficiency of the hydrogels. The PAMG hydrogels exhibit an electromagnetic shielding effectiveness of 35.7 dB and a higher water retention capability (with water retention exceeding 60% after 28 days). Furthermore, the hydrogels demonstrate outstanding sensing performance and exhibit high stability for a wide range of human motion detection signals. The research findings indicate that the MXene nanosheet-based electromagnetic shielding hydrogel holds great potential as an ideal platform for multifunctional electromagnetic shielding materials.

Miniaturized and integrated high-frequency flexible electronics for artificial intelligence (AI) with high computational requirements demand high-performance thermal interface materials (TIMs). The composite films made by adding boron nitride nanosheets (BNNS) fillers into aramid nanofibers (ANF) have garnered considerable research interest, primarily owing to superior heat conduction and favorable insulating performance. However, the abundant nanopores in BNNS/ANF films not only limit further improvement in thermal conductivity but also compromise mechanical integrity. Herein, using vacuum filtration and densification by polyimide (PI), we fabricated a structurally dense and performance-optimized PI/BNNS/ANF composite film. Experimental results show that this structurally optimized material significantly improves thermal conductivity, reaching 10.78 W m −1 K −1 (a 33.3% increase) and mechanical strength (32 MPa, a 29.1% increase) over the films without PI densification, while retaining excellent dielectric properties characterized by low permittivity and minimal dielectric dissipation. This study confirms that the introduction of PI is highly effective in boosting the comprehensive performance of BNNS/ANF composite films, providing a new solution for high-performance TIMs in compute-intensive AI. Highlights Composite films were successfully prepared via polyimide densification. The composite films exhibit a dense and continuous microstructure. Both thermal and mechanical properties are improved. Simulation results verify the reduction in interfacial thermal resistance. Low dielectric constant and low dielectric loss were maintained.

An ANF/BN composite coating was constructed on meta-aramid paper. • BN nanosheets created efficient thermal conduction pathways. • Hydrogen bonding enhanced the interfacial interaction between ANF and BN. • The composite paper achieved improved thermal conductivity while maintaining insulation. • The composite paper demonstrated effective heat dissipation in LED applications. Meta-aramid paper (MAP), a critical insulating material in high-power-density electrical equipment, currently faces a severe bottleneck due to the inherent trade-off between high electrical insulation and low thermal conductivity. In this work, a high-performance composite thermal conduction coating was formulated by uniformly compounding liquid-phase ball-milled, size-controlled boron nitride (BN) or its nanosheets (BNNSs) with aramid nanofibers (ANFs). This coating was then directly applied onto the surface of a MAP substrate, followed by hot-pressing to construct a dense thermal-conduction network with preferential in-plane packing of BN platelets. Within the coating architecture, ANFs acted as an efficient nanoscale binder, providing excellent wrapping and interfacial interlocking to firmly anchor the BN or BNNSs on the MAP. The regulation of BN lateral size together with the preferential in-plane packing of the BN platelets facilitates the formation of more continuous in-plane thermal-conduction pathways. Experimental results demonstrated that the composite paper exhibited an outstanding in-plane thermal conductivity of 3.25 W·m −1 ·K −1 , representing a remarkable ~378% enhancement over pristine MAP. Against the backdrop of the global shortage of freshwater resources, solar steam regeneration technology has attracted significant attention due to its great potential for efficient seawater desalination. However, the complex system architecture and high manufacturing costs have hindered its large - scale economic application. In this study, an integrated solar - driven interfacial evaporator based on aramid nanofiber (ANF) and carbon nanotube (CNT) composite nanofiber aerogel was developed. Through vacuum - assisted filtration combined with directional freezing technology, an ANF/CNT aerogel with vertical channels and a transverse layered structure was successfully constructed, achieving both efficient photothermal evaporation and mechanical extrusion desalination functions. The evaporation rate of the ANF/CNT - 30% aerogel for simulated seawater reached 2.04 kg·m −2 ·h −1 , and its net evaporation rate was 1.51 times that of dark evaporation, confirming that the directional structure significantly improves the evaporation efficiency. During the 7 – day continuous operation, the daily pure water production rate (8 h) of the device reached 19.0 L·m −2 , and the internal salt was effectively removed through cyclic extrusion, ensuring the long - term stability of the aerogel. This integrated structure design and simple preparation process endow the ANF/CNT aerogel with significant cost advantages and application potential, providing an innovative solution for high - efficiency and low - consumption seawater desalination technology.

With the development of 5G communication technology, electronic devices face the challenge of performance fluctuations when exposed to temperature-varying environments and multiband electromagnetic radiation. Addressing the limited performance of single-component materials, this article proposes a design strategy for synergistically enhanced composite films. Through the synergistic effects of multiple components and the regulation of multidimensional structures, the performance limitations of functional materials are overcome. In this work, a hierarchical aramid nanofiber (ANF)/silver nanowire (AgNWs)/multiwalled carbon nanotube (MWCNTs)-poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) composite film was fabricated via stepwise vacuum filtration. The bottom-layer ANF provides robust mechanical stability, and AgNWs in the interlayer form the primary conductive network. The top-layer MWCNTs-PEDOT:PSS with a “reinforced-concrete” structure significantly enhances the interfacial adhesion between AgNWs and ANF layers. This architecture fills conductive network gaps, creates additional pathways, and retards AgNWs’ oxidation effectively. The composite film retains excellent mechanical properties with a tensile strength of 231.67 MPa. It exhibits a rapid electrothermal response, reaching 122 °C from room temperature within 15 s under a low voltage of 4 V. Meanwhile, its electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding effectiveness in the X-band reaches 35.57 dB. It overcomes the performance limitations caused by uneven dispersion of traditional fillers and poor interfacial adhesion. These advantages endow it with great potential in various fields, such as smart wearable devices, aerospace engineering, flexible electronics, and medical applications.

The rapid advancement of infrared detection technologies poses formidable challenges to conventional stealth materials. However, most existing infrared stealth materials rely on a single mechanism-either surface emissivity modulation or thermal conduction blocking-which limits their capacity to deliver durable and stable performance. Herein, a novel vanadium dioxide (VO 2 )/aramid nanofiber (ANF)/polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) aerogel composite was successfully fabricated through a vacuum filtration and freeze-drying process. In this system, ANF and PVA form a robust support framework with exceptional mechanical properties, while VO 2 nanoparticles provide dynamic thermal camouflage properties. The resulting VO 2 /ANF/PVA aerogel exhibited a low density of 0.052 ± 0.002 g/cm 3 , minimal shrinkage rate of 3.5 ± 0.2 %, high porosity of 96.5 ± 0.3 %, substantial compressive stress (0.169 ± 0.001 MPa at 75 % strain), and extremely low thermal conductivity of 0.048 ± 0.003 W/(m·K). Notably, the aerogel demonstrated significant infrared emissivity modulation (from 0.92 to 0.6) across a temperature range of 15–100 °C. As a thermal camouflage coating, it reduced the radiative temperature of a 70 °C object to 17.9 °C while maintaining stable performance for over 2000 s. This study achieved synergistic optimization of material structure and functionality through design of composite structures, offering valuable insights for developing advanced adaptive stealth materials.

With the rapid development of intelligent, portable, and wearable electronic devices, flexible electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding materials with integrated multifunctional performance have gained increasing attention. In this work, the flexible sandwich-structured aramid nanofiber (ANF)/poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):polystyrene sulfonate (PEDOT:PSS)-MXene-ANF/PEDOT:PSS composite film was successfully fabricated through alternating vacuum-assisted filtration and laminated hot pressing. Within this system, PEDOT:PSS played a dual role in enhancing interfacial bonding and regulating electrical conductivity. As an interfacial binder, PEDOT:PSS significantly strengthened the adhesion between the MXene layer and the ANF substrate through strong interfacial interactions. Meanwhile, as a conductive bridge, its conjugated π-π structure facilitated efficient electron transport and carrier migration, markedly improving the overall conductivity of the film. The synergistic interaction between PEDOT:PSS and MXene led to the formation of a continuous and stable conductive network, providing efficient pathways for charge transport and energy dissipation. As a result of this synergistic design, when the mass ratio of PEDOT:PSS to MXene was 1:6, the APM6 composite film exhibited optimal comprehensive performance, with an EMI shielding efficiency (SE) of 52.57 dB, a specific EMI SE of SSE/t of 7904.197 dB·cm 2 ·g −1 , a Joule heating temperature of 110℃ at 2.5 V, a photothermal conversion temperature of 185℃ under 0.6 W/cm 2 laser irradiation, and a tensile strength of 42.75 MPa. These results demonstrated that the composite film possessed excellent EMI shielding and thermal management capabilities, making it a promising candidate for advanced electronic devices, military and aerospace applications.

High-efficiency, porous and renewable magnetic microwave absorbing (MA) materials have been enthusiastically pursued due to their suitable impedance matching, light weight, strong multiple scattering and the synergy effect of dielectric and magnetic loss. Herein, a three-dimensional (3D) Co@C/ANF aerogel, composed of magnetic MOF derivatives embedded in biomass aramid nanofiber (ANF), was prepared for the first time through a directional-freezing method followed by an annealing process. To evaluate their MA attenuation performance, the electromagnetic parameters of Co@C/ANF composites with different component ratios were measured at 2–18 GHz. Profiting from the preserved porous structure of MOF derivatives, the construction of multiple heterogeneous interfaces and suitable electromagnetic parameters, Co@C/ANF 2 : 1 exhibited a good MA performance of RLmin = −64.3 dB (indicating more than 99.99996% microwaves were absorbed) and EABmax = 6.8 GHz. Considering the admirable overall performance, the Co@C/ANF aerogel is deemed to be a promising candidate for the next-generation of lightweight, reproducible, and high-performance MA materials.
