Design and preparation of core–shell AP@HNS composites with high safety and excellent thermal decomposition performance

Wenxiang Li,Ping Ye,Changping Guo,Wenkun Zhu,Dayong Jin

Solid propellants with high safety, excellent thermal decomposition, and green performance are hot and difficult research areas in aerospace. In this paper, AP@HNS (hexanitrostilbene) composites with core–shell structure were designed and prepared by an ultrasound-assisted method using polyurethane for the interfacial modification of ammonium perchlorate (AP). The results show that the AP@HNS composites have a complete and dense shell structure when the nano-HNS content of the shell layer is 15% or more, the synergistic decomposition effect between HNS and AP can advance the high-temperature decomposition peak of AP by 102.4 °C and increase the apparent heat release 2.55 times to 1388 J g−1, and HNS improves the energy of AP while reducing environmental pollution. The safety performance test shows that the nano-HNS with 15% mass content can increase the composite characteristic drop height H50 to 32 cm and reduce the frictional susceptibility explosion probability to 77% (the H50 of AP is 27 cm and the frictional susceptibility explosion probability is 95%). The insensitive shell layer HNS significantly improves the safety performance of AP through barrier and buffering effects. This technology is expected to provide new ideas for designing and preparing solid propellants with high energy, low susceptibility, and excellent thermal decomposition performance.

Differential corrosion behavior of 3-nitro-1,2,4-triazole-5-one (NTO) and ammonium perchlorate (AP): Insights from experiments and simulations

Ziyang Guo,Liyuan Qin,Haoming Zou,Xiao Ma,Dongliang Wang,Yansong Shi,Xijuan Lv,Yujie Qiang,Wei Guo,Qinghai Shu

This study investigates the corrosion mechanism of carbon steel (CS) induced by high-energy density materials (HEDMs), NTO and AP. CS exhibited corrosion rates of 1.314 mm/y and 8.690 mm/y when exposed to NTO and AP powders, respectively. However, these rates shifted to 9.050 mm/y for NTO and 3.597 mm/y for AP in solution. Experiments combining grand canonical Monte Carlo (GCMC) and ab initio molecular dynamics (AIMD) simulations demonstrate AP’s greater susceptibility to hygroscopicity, establishing a corrosive environment. CS maintains an unabated corrosion rate as Cl - from AP reduction damages corrosion products. Conversely, NTO’s compact corrosion products effectively delay CS corrosion.

Dual-core–shell structure B@LiF@AP with multi-effect synergies to improve processibility and energy release characteristics of B

Deqi Wang,Jie Liu,Tianyu Tan,Shishuo Liu,Guozhen Xu,Zhimiao Zhang,Yang Qin,Fengsheng Li

Boron (B) is the most suitable fuel for rocket ramjet. However, boron oxide (B2O3) on the surface of B causes many problems in its application. B2O3 cross-links with hydroxyl prepolymer, which reduces the processibility of the system. Moreover, B2O3 hinders contact between the oxidation component and internal active B. Consequently, B is difficult to ignite, and its reactivity and combustion efficiency are limited. To solve these problems, a dual-core–shell structure, B@LiF@AP, B embedded with LiF as core and AP as shell, has been designed and prepared. Its multi-effect synergies, improving processibility, protecting B from oxidation by AP before burning, decomposing B2O3, and improving reactivity and combustion efficiency, have been confirmed. Compared with the mixed sample of B and AP (B–AP), the heat release of B@LiF@AP increased by 211.10%. The combustion efficiency of B@LiF@AP increased by 42.60% more than that of B@AP. The ignition test showed that its ignition energy was reduced by 37.89% and the flame temperature increased by 26.27% than that of B–AP. The application and development of boron-based rocket ramjet will be accelerated because the application problems of B are solved by B@LiF@AP.

Controlling the combustion and agglomeration characteristics of solid propellants via new micro-unit composite fuel Al@AP

Lu Liu,Lipeng Sang,Dongliang Gou,Zhan Wen,Gangchui Zhang,Peijin Liu,Guoqiang He,Wen Ao

New micro-unit composite fuels Al@AP with different mass ratios of Al and AP are designed, prepared, and added to solid propellants in place of the original aluminum powder . Through Thermogravimetric Analysis- Differential scanning calorimetry- Mass Spectrometry (TG-DSC-MS), laser ignition experiment, thermocouple temperature measurement, burning rate test, and combustion diagnostic, we study how Al@AP affects the ignition, combustion, and agglomeration properties of solid propellants. The results indicate that the increase of Al content of Al@AP can promote the advance of thermal decomposition of AP. As the AP content increases in Al@AP, the ignition delay time of Al@AP decreases by three times, and the mass burning rate increases by almost five times. At the same time, Al@AP significantly improves the burning rate and temperature gradient . When compare to the baseline propellant, Al@AP-containing propellants present a maximum increase in burning rate of 33% at low pressures and 19% at high pressures. In terms of agglomeration reduction, the number of large-size agglomerates in the CCPs of propellants containing Al@AP is reduced, the average particle size decreases by 78%, and the combustion efficiency increases to 99.34%. A mechanism is proposed to explain how the micro-unit composite fuel Al@AP alters propellant combustion and agglomeration. In summary, Al@AP provides excellent control over ignition, combustion, and agglomeration characteristics. This study provides guidance on the application and development of new aluminum-based composite fuels used in solid propellants.

RING Finger Protein 10 Regulates AP-1/Meox2 to Mediate Pirarubicin-Induced Cardiomyocyte Apoptosis

Hongwei Shi,Liang Duan,Ying Lan,Quan He,Peng Pu,Heng Tang

Pirarubicin (THP) is one of the classic chemotherapy drugs for cancer treatment. It is often clinically limited because of its cardiotoxicity. The occurrence and development of THP-mediated chemotherapy-related cardiotoxicity (CRC) may be reversed by RING finger protein 10 (RNF10). This study was performed with the aim of evaluating the inhibitory effect of RNF10 on THP-mediated CRC and its molecular mechanism. In vivo, we found that the expression of RNF10 decreased in THP-induced CRC rats, accompanied by Meox2 inhibition and AP-1 activation, resulting in increased cardiomyocyte apoptosis. After small interfering RNA (siRNA) and lentivirus transfection (Lv) of RNF10 in vitro, the expression of RNF10, Meox2, and AP-1 proteins and the degree of cardiomyocyte apoptosis were detected. We found that overexpression of RNF10 in H9C2 cardiomyocytes significantly promoted Meox2 and inhibited AP-1, alleviated apoptosis, and showed further inhibitory activity on THP-induced cardiomyocyte toxicity. Silencing RNF10 showed the opposite result. Our study showed that RNF10 inhibited THP-induced CRC through the activity of Meox2 and AP-1 proteins. RNF10 may be the next drug target for the treatment of CRC and other related cardiovascular diseases.

Novel graphene iron organic nanocomposites for enhancing combustion and safety properties of AP-HTPB propellant

Ming Zhang,Fengqi Zhao,Jiankan Zhang,Ying Wang,Xueli Chen,Ting An,Zhao Qin,Haixia Hao

Graphene iron tannate and graphene iron gallate nanocomposites (G-D-Fe and G-M-Fe) were designed, synthesized and characterized to deal with the performance requirement of AP-HTPB propellent. Effects of the G-D-Fe and G-M-Fe on the thermal decomposition of AP, laser ignition, combustion and safety characteristics of AP-HTPB propellant were explored. By taking Catocene as the benchmark (156.80 mJ), the G-D-Fe improves the safety performance of propellant, and the ignition energy ( E 50 ) is increased by 17.25 mJ. Besides, the G-D-Fe and G-M-Fe have positive effects on enhancing the burning rate and the reducing the pressure exponent of propellant, and the influence of G-D-Fe is more significant. The burning rate enhances from 13.87 to 16.92 mm·s −1 at 15 MPa and the pressure exponent reduces from 0.47 to 0.32 in 4∼15 MPa after the introduction of G-D-Fe. The catalytic mechanism of G-D-Fe were analyzed on the basis of flame morphology, combustion wave structure, in-situ FTIR and gas-phase FTIR-MS. The outstanding catalytic property of G-D-Fe is due to its promotion effect on AP pyrolysis and the formation of stable products, which is conductive to the intense reactions of gas products and the thermal transmission between burning surface and gas phase, and reflecting in the significant enhanced burning rate.

Exonuclease I assisted fluorometric aptasensor for adenosine detection using 2-AP modified DNA

Haiyan Liu,Yunfeng Bai,Jun Qin,Haiyan Wang,Yuzhen Wang,Zezhong Chen,Feng Feng

A novel sensitive fluorescence method was developed for adenosine detection by using adenosine aptamer, Exo I and a 2-aminopurine-modified DNA (2-AP probe). 2-AP probe was completely complementary to adenosine aptamer. This strategy took advantage of the high binding affinity of adenosine aptamer and the susceptibility of 2-aminopurine (2-AP) to the local base stacking environment. In the absence of the adenosine, the formation of double-stranded DNA (dsDNA) through the hybridization of the aptamer with the 2-AP probe prevented the digestion of 2-AP probe by Exo I. The fluorescence of 2-AP was significantly quenched due to the base-stacking interaction. In the presence of adenosine, the binding of adenosine with the aptamer prevented the hybridization between aptamer and 2-AP probe, leading to the digestion of 2-AP probe by Exo I and the release of 2-AP. The fluorescence was recovered. A limit of detection of 0.30   μM and a linear range from 10   μM to 600   μM ( R 2   =   0.9933) were achieved by this assay. Moreover, adenosine analogs did not produce any significant change in the fluorescence intensity response, indicating good selectivity of this sensor for adenosine detection. Finally, it was used for the diluted serum sample.

MoS2 embedded triangular silver nanosheets modified MOF-808 as electrochemical sensing platform for highly sensitive simultaneous detection of ACOP and 4-AP

Xiaoqin Wei,Hao Guo,Mingyue Wang,Zongyan Lu,Zeyun Yang,Lei Sun,Zhiguo Yu,Yinsheng Liu,Wu Yang

The detection of acetaminophen (ACOP) and its toxic hydrolyzed product p-aminophenol (4-AP) is very significant for clinical diagnosis and quality control of drug formulation. In this study, a novel electrochemical sensor based on MoS 2 embedding triangular Ag nanoplates (Tri-AgNPs) coated MOF-808 was developed for simultaneous and sensitive detection of ACOP and 4-AP. The morphology and structure MOF-808@MoS 2 /Tri-AgNPs nanocomposite were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and so on. The electrochemical and electrocatalytic properties of the composite electrode were evaluated by cyclic voltammetry (CV) and differential pulse voltammetry (DPV). The experimental results demonstrated that the constructed sensor had excellent electrochemical performance for ACOP and 4-AP detection due to the synergistic interaction among MOF-808, MoS 2 and Tri-AgNPs. The proposed sensor exhibited a wide linear range (1–450 μM) and low limits of detection for detection of ACOP (0.054 μM) and 4-AP (0.046 μM). At the same time, the sensor also showed outstanding repeatability, reproducibility, stability and selectivity . In addition, MOF-808@MoS 2 /Tri-AgNPs/GCE was also employed to determine ACOP and 4-AP in acetaminophen tablets and Yellow River water samples with satisfactory recovery rates, which indicated the feasibility of the developed electrochemical sensor in the actual sample analysis.

Core-shell structured AP/Fe3O4 composite with enhanced catalytic thermal decomposition property: Fabrication and mechanism study

Shao-Bo Cao,Lin-Yu Zhou,Cai Zhang,Liang-Liang Zhang,Guo-Lei Xiang,Jie-Xin Wang,Jian-Feng Chen

To address the aggregation problem of nanocatalysts in ammonium perchlorate (AP), AP/Fe 3 O 4 core-shell composites (CSC) were synthesized by nanodispersion-assisted antisolvent recrystallization induced self-assembly method. DFT and FTIR test results reveal that covalent bonds between citrate and Fe 3 O 4 along with hydrogen bonds between citrate and AP drive the formation of AP/Fe 3 O 4 CSC. With coating 5.4 wt% Fe 3 O 4 , the high-temperature decomposition peak temperature of AP is decreased by 91.3 °C, the heat release is increased by 125% and the apparent activation energy is lowered by 47.9%. AP/Fe 3 O 4 CSC exhibit excellent thermal decomposition performance because the highly dispersed nanocatalysts on AP surface provide more catalytic sites and accelerate the reaction heat transferring from burning surface to condensed AP. Guided by this strategy, AP/Co 3 O 4 and AP/Fe 2 O 3 CSC were also prepared with enhanced thermal decomposition performance, which indicates this strategy has good applicability to improve the catalytic performance of nano metal oxides for AP decomposition.

Thermal decomposition and combustion behavior of the core-shell Al@AP composite embedded with CuO as a catalyst

Jie-Yao Lyu,Geng Xu,Haorui Zhang,Wenming Yang,Qi-Long Yan

Conventional solid propellants suffer from undesirable combustion performance due to the poor mass and heat transfer between metal fuels and oxidizers, as well as a lack of catalytic active sites between the catalyst and catalyzed objects. Embedding metal fuels and catalysts within the oxidizer has shown promise in improving the overall combustion performance of HTPB/AP/Al and HTPB/AP/RDX/Al composite solid propellants. However, the underlying mechanisms responsible for this enhancement remain to be further understood. In this study, we investigated the reactivities of core–shell Al@AP and Al@AP/CuO composites using thermal analysis and combustion diagnostic techniques. The results demonstrated that the decomposition of AP was promoted, as evidenced by a lower peak temperature (415.2–334.7 ℃), higher total heat release (116.4–720.8 J·g −1 ), a transition in the decomposition physical model from the random nucleation and 2D/3D growth of nuclei model to the auto-catalytic model, and increased generation of NO 2 . Furthermore, the Al@AP/CuO propellant pellet exhibited a more stable flame without agglomeration, and the condensed combustion products (CCPs) contained a lower amount of unreacted Al compared to that of conventional mixtures. These findings highlighted the potential of core–shell Al@AP and Al@AP/CuO composites as replacements for discrete ingredients of solid propellants, thereby offering improved performance for next-generation propulsion systems.

Jinghan Guo,Yalin Wu,Yanhui Li,Shuangying Li,Zhi Li,Jingwen Niu,Chunmao Chen,Qingxiang Zhou

A creative electrochemical probe utilizing molecularly imprinted modified magnetic carbon dots was designed and fabricated. Carbon dots are a new kind of green, pollution-free, cheap and easy to obtain nanomaterials . The combination of Fe 3 O 4 and carbon dots improved the defect of ferric oxide being easy to aggregate, and their co-modification significantly enhanced the electrochemical activity of the electrode. Cyclic voltammetry and differential pulse voltammetry were executed to evaluate the electrochemical behavior of the co-modified electrode surface and performance of the probe. The constructed probe exhibited excellent selectivity and sensitivity for determining bisphenol AP in plastic products. The introduction of molecularly imprinted polymers endowed the sensor excellent selectivity, ensuring specific recognition of bisphenol AP. The fabricated sensor demonstrated a good two-stage linear range of 0.07–0.3 μM and 0.3–10 μM, and the detection limit was 0.027 μM. The constructed probe was validated to detect bisphenol AP in self-heating hot pot, instant noodle bucket and disposable plastic cup, and satisfactory results were achieved. These results indicated that the fabricated sensor was a cheap, rapid, and selective sensing-platform for detecting bisphenol AP, and could be employed as a reliable routine tool.

Mechanism evaluation of the interactions between bisphenol AP and bovine serum albumin based on multi-spectroscopy, wavefunction analysis, and molecular docking

Tian-Zhu GUAN,Ning LI,Ya GAO,Ya-Jun GAO,Ming YANG,Qiong LI,Li-Xia XIAO

The hazardous effects of bisphenol compounds on organisms have attracted wide attention. Hence, elaborating of the specific binding mode of emerging contaminants to macromolecules provides a pivotal insight into the interaction mechanism. In the present study, the structure changes of bovine serum albumin (BSA) upon binding with bisphenol AP (BPAP) were explored via multi-spectroscopies under simulated physiological conditions. Stern-Volmer calculation showed BPAP quenched the endogenous fluorescence of BSA by static quenching. Thermodynamic results with respect to temperatures indicate that the van der Waals force and hydrogen bond interactions play a pivotal role in BSA-BPAP complex formation. Circular dichroism and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopies also quantitatively confirm the secondary structural changes of the complex. Explicit topological analysis was theoretically conducted by the wavefunction analysis method. Electrostatic potential map pinpointed the global surface minimum and maximum of BPAP, which correspond to −26.86 and 52.50 kcal mol −1 around oxygen atom and hydrogen atom, respectively. To acquire clearer perspective, local orbital localizer and electron localization function were calculated to visually represent the electron delocalization in BPAP. More specifically, molecular docking indicated that BPAP was located in the hydrophobic cavity of BSA. Herein, the experimental and theoretical results reveal BPAP and BSA interaction mechanism in detail. These insights have great value in warning the toxicity assessment of BPAP on BSA in humans and wildlife.
