Eco-friendly exfoliation of two-dimensional nanosheets from their layered bulks is very attracting but still remains a big challenge. Here, we report a novel preparation route of two-dimensional nanosheets through soaking the bulk layered material in the C 2 H 4 O 3 -based chemical exfoliation system followed by microwave irradiation. This route has demonstrated the effective exfoliation of two-dimensional nanosheets (graphene nanosheets, BNNS and MoS 2 NS) from their layered bulks in a green and eco-friendly way. The average layer-number of the obtained graphene nanosheets, BNNS and MoS 2 NS is 4, 6 and 5, respectively, behaving a few-layer feature. Interestingly, when the graphene paper is prepared from the exfoliated graphene nanosheets by simple vacuum filtration and mechanical pressing, its average electrical conductivity is up to 7.36 × 10 5 S/m and the EMI SE value reaches to 61 dB, both among the highest for the graphene papers reported previously. Since there exists no serious fragmentation of layered materials during the whole exfoliation, the present exfoliation strategy is more competent in preparing the large-sized two-dimensional nanosheets over those conventional green routes.

Self-cleaning coatings need to have a certain degree of breathability to avoid peeling due to interfacial stress. In this study, a multifunctional superhydrophobic breathable DDA-PDA@BNNS/silicon resin coating is successfully designed by modifying sucrose-assisted exfoliation of boron nitride nanosheets (BNNS) with dodecylamine (DDA) and polydopamine (PDA). The coating shows a contact angle as high as 153.6° and a rolling angle as low as 4.8°, which can effectively avoid the adhesion of solid and liquid contaminants and extend the freezing time of ice up to six times. Meanwhile, the porous network structure of boron nitride nanosheets hardly changes the water vapor transmission rate of the substrate material . The DDA-PDA@BNNS/silicon resin breathable superhydrophobic coating is expected to achieve practical applications in long-lasting self-cleaning and antifouling.

A novel one-dimensional boron nitride and titanium oxide hierarchical heterostructures (BNMT-BNNS/TiO 2 ) composite photocatalyst endowed with high specific surface area was synthesized by molten salt assisted annealing and sol-gel method. With the increase of TiO 2 concentration, the photocatalytic degradation efficiency of BNMT-BNNS/TiO 2 hierarchical heterostructures increased first and then decreases, while the adsorption tended to decrease. When the molar ratio of TiO 2 to BNMT-BNNS was 27:50, BNMT-BNNS/TiO 2 displayed a higher specific surface area of 79.6770 m 2 g -1 than that of TiO 2 (19.810 m 2 g -1 ). The methylene blue photodegradation rate of BNMT-BNNS/TiO 2 is 99.62% after 115 min ultraviolet irradiation, show 1.62 times higher than that of the synthesized pure TiO 2 . The positive synergistic degradation mechanism between the strong adsorption of BNMT-BNNS support and the excellent photocatalysis of TiO 2 was also discussed in detail. This work reports the synthesis of BNMT-BNNS/TiO 2 photocatalysts with high surface area, excellent photocatalytic performance and reusability . BNMT-BNNS/TiO 2 has potential applications in practical environmental purification.

Adding heat conducting particles to a polymer matrix to prepare thermally conductive and electrical insulation materials is an effective approach to address the safety issues arising from the accumulation of heat in the working process of electronic devices. In this work, thermally conductive and electrical insulation nano-paper, consisting of Boron Nitride nano-sheet (BNNS) and cellulose nanofiber (CNF), was prepared using an aerogel 3D skeleton template method. For comparison, BNNS/CNF nano-paper was also produced using a simple blending method. At a BNNS loading of 50 wt%, the thermal conductivity of BNNS/CNF aerogel nano-paper and blended nano-paper at 70 °C are 2.4 W/mK and 1.2 W/mK respectively, revealing an increase of 94.4%. Under similar conditions, the volume resistivity of BNNS/CNF aerogel nano-paper and blended nano-paper are 4.0 × 1014and 4.2 × 1014Ω·cm respectively. In view of its excellent thermal conductivity and electrical insulation performance, therefore, BNNS/CNF aerogel nano-paper holds great potential for electronic-related applications.Keywords:BNNS;CNF;aerogel;3D skeleton;nano-paper;thermal conductivity;electrical insulation

With increasing global concerns over energy efficiency and environmental protection, traditional refrigeration technologies encounter significant challenges. The electrocaloric effect (ECE), as a solid-state and environmentally friendly refrigeration technology, has emerged a key focus for next-generation cooling devices owing to its ease of control and broad applicability. However, low thermal conductivity (κ < 0.2 W/(m·K)) and high electric field requirements (>100 MV/m) limit its practical application. Herein, we propose a dual-filler synergy strategy by integrating barium strontium zirconium titanate (BSZT) nanofibers (high polarization) and hydroxylated boron nitride nanosheets (BNNSs–OH, high κ and low dielectric constant) into a relaxor ferroelectric polymer matrix. This effectively simultaneously addresses dielectric mismatch and poor thermal management, two long-standing bottlenecks of single-filler ECE systems. The optimized composite (9 wt % BSZT/8 wt % BNNSs) demonstrates outstanding performance at room temperature (30 °C): a significant electrocaloric temperature change (ΔT = 13.5 K at 75 MV/m), enhanced thermal conductivity (κ = 1.6 W/(m·K)), and improved breakdown strength (Eb = 394 MV/m). Compared to the pristine polymer, the composite demonstrates a 230% improvement in cooling efficiency, alongside great cyclic stability over 1000 cycles. This work offers a material-based solution for high-performance solid-state cooling, facilitating practical applications in portable devices, wearable electronics, and chip thermal management.

Employing inorganic nanofillers as reinforcements to modify the mechanical and electromagnetic properties of organic materials has been documented to be an extremely efficient method. Herein, an inorganic BN nanosheet (BNNS) was employed to promote the mechanical performance and optimize the crystal structure of ceramic BN materials. First, spinnable hybrid BNNS/polyborazine precursors with different mixing ratios were synthesized by high-temperature polymerization. The exfoliation and amine-functionalization of BNNSs were achieved by ball milling before they were doped into pure borazine monomer (PMAB) through a deamination reaction. The results demonstrate that the dopant of modified BNNS (aBNNS) promotes the ceramic yield of hybrid precursors (up to 66.3%) without destroying fiber spinnability. HP-0.05% shows optimal spinnability with low flow activation energy (1.04 kJ/mol). The finest diameter of green fibers spun by them could reach 5.61 µm, with a smooth and integral surface. Then the influence of aBNNS on the fiber micro-structure and mechanical performance was also measured. It is found that aBNNS benefits the improvement of fiber density (from 1.6 to 2.0 g/cm 3 ), and significantly enhances the crystallinity from 66.65% to 94.28%. Thus, the strength is increased by nearly 60% (up to 1.2 GPa) and the Young's modulus is increased by about 72% (up to 125.0 GPa). The incorporation of trace BNNS offers new insight and potential for the preparation of high-performance BN fibers.

With the rapid development of marine renewable energy, especially offshore photovoltaic systems, the problem of biofouling of photovoltaic equipment in the marine environment has become increasingly prominent. The attachment of marine organisms such as algae will significantly affect the photoelectric conversion efficiency of photovoltaic panels, thereby reducing the stability and economy of the system. In this study, a composite siloxane coating was designed and prepared. Methyltrimethoxysilane (MTMS) was used as the organosilicon component. The negative potential of the coating was significantly enhanced by incorporating hexagonal boron nitride nanosheets (h-BNNS). This negative potential and the negative charge on the surface of marine organisms, especially algae, would produce electrostatic repulsion, which can effectively reduce the attachment of organisms. The results show that the prepared coating exhibits excellent performance in anti-biofouling, adhesion, chemical stability, transparency, and self-cleaning properties. The transparency of the coating reached 92.7%. After immersion with Chlorella for 28 days, the coverage percentage on the coating surface was only 0.98%, while the coverage percentage on the blank sample was 23.25%. The corrosion resistance and salt resistance of the coating also ensure its stability in complex marine environments, and it has broad application prospects.

Heat dissipation is of importance for modern microelectronic devices. However, it is still a great challenge for the composite to achieve eminent thermal, mechanical, electrical insulation, and thermal diffusion performance simultaneously. Negatively charged MXene and positively charged boron nitride nanosheets (BNNSs) self-assembled into sandwich heterostructured MXene-BNNSs (MXene@BNNS) fillers via electrostatic interactions. At a 50:1 BNNS-to-MXene mass ratio, the 2D MXene is well wrapped between the insulated BNNSs. The synergistic effect between the two nanosheets significantly improved the construction efficiency of thermal transport pathways. The in-plane thermal conductivity of 25 wt% MXene@BNNS/epoxy is 0.912 W m −1 K −1 , which is increased by 404% and 98.1% compared to epoxy resins and BNNS/epoxy composites, respectively. Furthermore, the composite also has enhanced thermal stability with a temperature at 5% weight loss ( T d5% ) of 376.1°C and a char yield of 27.87%, good electrical insulation with a volume resistivity of 6.37 × 10 13 Ω cm and dielectric properties (dielectric constant < 4.0), suggesting it is a promising thermal management material. Highlights BNNS and MXene electrostatically self-assemble into a sandwich heterostructure. The MXene@BNNS/epoxy has better heat dissipation than BNNS/epoxy. The composites possess outstanding electrical insulation and dielectric properties. The thermal property of the composite is enhanced by MXene@BNNS.

The development of modern microelectronic devices and chip integration cause electronics devices to generate excessive heat. To overcome such challenges in the near future, designing thermally conductive composites with improved stability, conductivity, and excellent electric insulation properties is critical. In this study, a novel strategy was proposed to construct superior thermally conductive networks with boron nitride nanosheets-Multiwalled carbon nanotubes (BNNS-MWCNT)/ poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) nanocomposites through the electrospinning technique and hot-pressing process. BNNS and MWCNT are aligned along with the fiber orientation , and MWCNT, with high length-to-diameter ratio characteristics, can act as a bridging point for uncontacted BNNS. Interestingly, when the mass fraction of BNNS-MWCNT was 20 % and the mass ratio between the BNNS: MWCNT was maintained as 9:1, the resultant BNNS-MWCNT/PVA nanocomposites exhibited an excellent in-plane thermal conductivity of 11.49 W/(m·K) and observed a tremendous heat dissipation capacity than PVA and BNNS/PVA composites. Moreover, the BNNS-MWCNT/PVA recorded excellent electrical insulation properties. The present work provides inspiration for the preparation of composites with low fillers and high thermal conductivity.

The development of thermal conduction polymer-based composites is important to solve the heat dissipation of electronic instruments under overheating conditions. The construction of thermal conductive pathways in composites and the reduction of contact resistance between fillers are crucial for concerning excellent thermal conduction properties. Herein, the oriented coherent thermal conductive network in composites is successfully developed via the in situ growth of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) into boron nitride nanosheets (BNNSs) skeleton prepared from ice-templated. The thermal conductivity of composites reaches 3.21 W m −1 K −1 approximately low filler loading of 9.86 vol%, due to the formation of the covalent bonding between CNTs and BNNSs as reducing the thermal contact resistance by one order of magnitude. More importantly, non-equilibrium molecular dynamics (NEMD) simulations are carried out to demonstrate the influence of CNTs in elevating the heat conductivity between BNNSs. Meanwhile, the volume resistivity of composites up to 10 15 Ω cm far met the requirement of electrical insulation. This study provided a valuable idea for the design of thermal management materials for potential applications in integrated circuits.

Miniaturized and integrated high-frequency flexible electronics for artificial intelligence (AI) with high computational requirements demand high-performance thermal interface materials (TIMs). The composite films made by adding boron nitride nanosheets (BNNS) fillers into aramid nanofibers (ANF) have garnered considerable research interest, primarily owing to superior heat conduction and favorable insulating performance. However, the abundant nanopores in BNNS/ANF films not only limit further improvement in thermal conductivity but also compromise mechanical integrity. Herein, using vacuum filtration and densification by polyimide (PI), we fabricated a structurally dense and performance-optimized PI/BNNS/ANF composite film. Experimental results show that this structurally optimized material significantly improves thermal conductivity, reaching 10.78 W m −1 K −1 (a 33.3% increase) and mechanical strength (32 MPa, a 29.1% increase) over the films without PI densification, while retaining excellent dielectric properties characterized by low permittivity and minimal dielectric dissipation. This study confirms that the introduction of PI is highly effective in boosting the comprehensive performance of BNNS/ANF composite films, providing a new solution for high-performance TIMs in compute-intensive AI. Highlights Composite films were successfully prepared via polyimide densification. The composite films exhibit a dense and continuous microstructure. Both thermal and mechanical properties are improved. Simulation results verify the reduction in interfacial thermal resistance. Low dielectric constant and low dielectric loss were maintained.
