The catalytic activity, adsorption and synergistic effect over bimetallic MOF derivatives with different dopant metal were systemically compared. A series of Me-Cu/TiO 2 (Me=Fe, Co, Ni) derived from bimetallic Me/Cu-BTC MOFs were fabricated via a sacrificing template method and applied for CO-SCR. Among the bimetallic catalysts, Fe-Cu/TiO 2 presented the best low-temperature of nearly 100% NO conversion from 150 °C to 350 °C with good NO selectivity. For Me-Cu/TiO 2 (Me=Fe, Co, Ni), the productions of crucial Cu + intermediate were determined to be 51.17%, 50.45%,49.4% by XPS, which were consistent with their catalytic activity results. The superior redox behavior of Fe-Cu/TiO 2 can be attributed to its higher Oβ / (Oα +Oβ) ratio of 32.90% and the higher Me 2+ / Me 3+ ratio of 1.79. In situ infrared analysis revealed that the Fe doping not only improved the formation and stability of nitrate species, but also enhanced the quantity of Lewis acid sites by forming Cu + -CO. Furthermore, a possible low-temperature Langmuir-Hinshelwood (L-H) mechanism over Me-Cu /TiO 2 (Me=Fe, Co, Ni) was proposed.

Pt-based catalysts are promising for the selective catalytic reduction of NOx by CO (CO-SCR), but some technical issues hinder their practical application, including the high Pt loading needed, high reduction temperature, and the low tolerance toward SO2. Here, we report a novel Pt catalyst for CO-SCR, which has negatively charged single-atom Pt embedded on CuO squares, and the latter is supported on CoAlO nanosheets. This Pt–CuO/CoAlO catalyst with an ultra-low Pt loading (0.02 wt %) exhibited 91% NO conversion and 80% N2 selectivity in 3% O2 at 200 °C. More importantly, it showed almost no activity loss in 200 ppm SO2 over a 15 h test. The theoretical calculations reveal that the negatively charged Pt has a stronger NO adsorption ability than the positively charged Pt, and Cu serves as the CO adsorption site. The much-weakened SO2 adsorption on Pt–CuO/CoAlO relative to the NO and CO adsorption effectively avoids the catalyst poisoning by SO2.

Efforts have been devoted to exploring the effective composite catalysts for low-temperature selective catalytic reduction of NOx by CO (CO-SCR) using Fe-Cu bimetal oxide (Fe2Cu1) as the active component and rice husk ash (RHA), amorphous SiO2, and activated carbon (AC) as supports. The results showed that the beneficial role of RHA as a catalyst support for CO-SCR was primarily reliant on amorphous SiO2 in RHA and not on AC. Both Fe2Cu1/RHA and Fe2Cu1/amorphous SiO2 catalysts exhibited the best catalytic performance of CO-SCR, which had good stability, wide active temperature range, high conversion ratio, 100% N2 selectivity, and superior resistance to O2, SO2, and H2O (g). The CO and NOx conversion ratios of Fe2Cu1/amorphous SiO2 could reach up to approximately 100% from 100 to 500 °C. The excellent SCR performance was associated with the large specific surface area and good structural stability of amorphous SiO2, the uniform distribution of active sites, dual redox cycle of Fe2O3 and CuO species, and many surface-adsorbed oxygen species, which made amorphous SiO2-based catalysts highly competitive for application in the SCR process. This research provides the underlying insights for the improvement of industrial application to realize ″non-ammonia SCR″ technology with near-zero NOx/CO emissions synergistically at low temperatures.

Co 3 O 4 /CeO 2 catalyst with rich oxygen vacancies was fabricated. • Co 3 O 4 /CeO 2 catalyst achieves 100% NO x conversion within 225 −400 °C under oxygen-enriched conditions. • The heterostructure interface induces a strong Ce(4 f)–O(2p)–Co(3d) orbital coupling and triggers electron redistribution. • The heterostructure and oxygen vacancies ensured the pathway less affected by O 2 . The development of efficient and low-cost catalysts for the selective catalytic reduction of NO by CO (CO-SCR) under aerobic conditions remains a critical challenge. Heterostructure catalysts, particularly those engineered at the interface between rare earth and transition metal oxides, represent a promising frontier for the CO-SCR reaction. However, a deep understanding of their catalytic mechanism and active sites remains limited. In this work, the Co 3 O 4 /CeO 2 heterostructure catalyst with dispersed Co 3 O 4 nanoparticles on CeO 2 is designed and synthesized via a two-step precipitation method, serving as a model system. The optimized catalyst exhibits superior performance with 100% NO conversion across a wide temperature window (225–400 °C) and robust thermal stability, outperforming pure CeO 2 . Advanced spectral characterization and density functional theory calculations reveal that the heterostructure interface induces a strong Ce(4 f)-O(2p)-Co(3d) orbital coupling, which triggers electron redistribution. This unique interface environment optimizes the adsorption and activation of NO molecules and lowers the N-O bond cleavage energy, thereby enabling the high catalytic performance. This work offers a facile synthesis strategy for designing high-performance heterostructure catalysts and provides fundamental insight into the interface-driven mechanism for CO-SCR applications. Selective catalytic reduction of NO using CO (CO-SCR) is a promising technology for the purification of NO in the flue gas. However, the presence of O 2 significantly inhibits the activity of the CO-SCR catalyst. Herein, we synthesize a hollow Mn-doped CeO 2 @Co 3 O 4 catalyst (Mn-CeO 2 @Co 3 O 4 ), which achieved 82% NO conversion, 100% CO conversion, and 78% N 2 selectivity under 5 vol% O 2 at 200 °C, superior to those of CeO 2 @Co 3 O 4 and Co 3 O 4 @CeO 2 catalysts. The characterization results indicate that the strong electronic interaction at the heterointerfaces between Co 3 O 4 and CeO 2 plays a crucial role in promoting selective adsorption of NO. Furthermore, the Mn doping into the Co 3 O 4 lattice of the catalyst facilitates the conversion of N 2 O intermediates, thereby enhancing the overall activity. This research provides a new strategy for the design and synthesis of CO-SCR catalysts.

Nitrogen oxides (NOx) are harmful air pollutants, and their selective catalytic reduction by CO (CO-SCR) offers the dual benefit of removing both NO and CO, thus realizing the concept of “waste-to-value”. However, most CO-SCR catalysts are effective only at ≥300 °C, limiting low-temperature applications. Herein, we explore Ni–Cu mixed oxides (NiCuOx) that leverage the synergistic roles of Cu+ species and the Ni3+/Ni2+ redox cycle and the surface synergistic oxygen vacancies (SSOVs) that facilitate NO dissociation. NiCuOx catalysts were synthesized using three conventional methods─sol–gel, coprecipitation, and hydrothermal─as well as a less conventional microwave-assisted deep eutectic solvent (DES) method, and their CO-SCR performance was systematically evaluated. Among them, the DES-derived catalyst (DES-NiCuOx) exhibits superior catalytic performance, achieving 100% NO conversion above 120 °C and 100% N2 selectivity above 150 °C, ranking among the highest reported to date for nonprecious metal catalysts. This outstanding activity is attributed to its larger specific surface area; enriched Cu+ species and OVs, particularly SSOVs; and improved redox properties. In situ DRIFTS analysis reveals that interfacial Ni3+–□–Cu+ (where □ represents an OV) structures in DES-NiCuOx promote NO dissociation and CO adsorption. Moreover, the concurrent involvement of Langmuir–Hinshelwood and Mars–van Krevelen mechanisms, facilitated by excellent oxygen mobility and redox properties, plays a vital role in enhancing low-temperature CO-SCR efficiency. This work highlights the advantages of the DES synthesis route for preparing highly dispersed mixed metal oxides and provides new insights into the rational design of efficient catalysts for low-temperature NOx abatement.

Supported catalysts have been extensively investigated and implemented in the industry due to their cost-effectiveness and promising catalytic performance. However, due to the general inert nature of the support itself, its role in the catalyst performance is often neglected and therefore not well understood despite the consideration of the physical properties of the support. This study applies the concept of electronic metal-support interaction (EMSI) to explore the impact of various supports on the active metals in Fe-Ni-based catalysts for the CO-selective catalytic reduction reaction. Through density functional theory calculations and several advanced characterizations, it can be confirmed that the EMSI effect can modify the valence states of active metals and foster interaction between different active metals, thereby influencing the reactant adsorption and catalyst performance greatly. These findings highlight the significant impact of the support on the chemical states of active metals, having far-reaching implications for designing and optimizing the supported industrial catalysts.
