Pesticide residues may enter the human body through the food chain when livestock and poultry consume pesticide-contaminated feed. Therefore, monitoring and limiting pesticide residues in animal feed and animal-origin foods is necessary. Carbendazim is one of the most frequently detected pesticides in food and feed and has various toxic effects on non-target animals. This study investigated the effects of varying concentrations of carbendazim contamination in feed on broiler chicken growth performance, serum biochemical indicators, histopathology, and carbendazim residues in broiler muscles and livers. The results demonstrated that contamination of 5–100 mg/kg carbendazim in feed did not affect broiler growth performance or health. Carbendazim contamination in feed at 200–800 mg/kg slightly reduced growth performance. Broiler kidneys showed minor histopathological alterations after 400 mg/kg carbendazim exposure. Furthermore, when the carbendazim content in feed was less than 25 mg/kg, the residual carbendazim in the muscles and livers of broilers did not exceed the maximum residue level set by the European Union and China. Based on the above findings, carbendazim residues in the feed of less than 25 mg/kg can be considered safe for chicken products.

Carbendazim (MBC) is a high-efficient and broad-spectrum fungicide, but excessive residues caused by its improper use have caused health toxicity and environmental pollution. It is an irresistible trend to find green, safe, accurate and controllable release technology of MBC. To achieve the purpose of safe and efficient use of MBC, photolabile protecting group was used to realize the controllable release. This study aimed to covalently link MBC and 6-nitropiperonyl alcohol (NP) to synthesize photocaged molecule NP-MBC. The photodegradation test showed that NP-MBC could effectively release MBC under ultraviolet light. The antifungal activity of NP-MBC showed significant difference against Rhizoctonia solani , Sclerotinia sclerotiorum and Fusarium graminearum before and after irradiation, and the effects on mycelial morphology are different. The hyphae morphology of R. solani and F. graminearum changed significantly, and mycelia were severely damaged. The hyphae surface of former was swollen and broken, and the latter was collapsed and shriveled after NP-MBC light treatment. NP-MBC could realize the light-controlled release of MBC, and the antifungal activity before and after irradiation was significantly different, which provides an effective way to release MBC.

The different techniques like spectroscopy and fluorescence quenching were used to study the interactive effect of carbendazim (CARB) and catalase (CAT) at the molecular level. The results showed that conditions were beneficial to the quenching mechanism at 25.0 °C, pH 7.0, while the binding constant k was 1.92 × 10 5 L mol −1 and the number of binding site was 1.0385. The thermodynamic parameters indicated that CARB could interact spontaneously with CAT to form a complex mainly by van der Waals’ interactions and hydrogen bonds. The interaction mechanism between CARB and CAT was that the effects of CARB on CAT in soil were activated and then restore stability. However, the effects of CARB on simple CAT were activated and then inhibited.

Carbendazim is primarily employed to manage crop diseases. However, excessive pesticide usage poses risks to human health. Therefore, developing a highly sensitive detection method for carbendazim is essential. Nitrogen-doped carbon dots Rhp-N CDs were synthesized through a straightforward one-step hydrothermal process, using Rhizoma paridis extracts and o -phenylenediamine as precursors. Rhp-N CDs were purified using dialysis, thin-layer chromatography, and column chromatography. Transmission electron microscopy revealed that the Rhp-N CDs displayed a spherical morphology with an average particle size of 2.19 nm. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis indicated that they were composed of carbon (C), nitrogen (N), and oxygen (O) elements. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy showed that Rhp-N CDs contained amino groups on their surface. The linear ranges of carbendazim detection were 0–50 μg/L and 50–150 μg/L, with low detection limits of 6.81 ng/L and 20.9 ng/L, respectively. Furthermore, the fluorescence quenching mechanism of the target on Rhp-N CDs was elucidated. The nano-fluorescent probe was demonstrated to be effective in determining the content of carbendazim in samples of Snow pears, Winter jujubes, Snow peaches, and Bananas, thereby illustrating the possibility of its practical application.

Nanocellulose is an abundant green resource that, owing to the larger surface area, length, and diameter of the fibers, can be used as a framework for loading Ag nanoparticles and serve as substrate for surface enhancement Raman scattering (SERS). These properties would cause the hydroxyl groups on the surface to adsorb the Ag ions and reduce them to Ag seed to form a load fulcrum. This paper presents a convenient and environmentally friendly method for the fabrication of silver-nanocellulose composites (NCF-Ag). A commonly used pesticide, carbendazim (CBZ), was used as a SERS probe to evaluate the properties of NCF-Ag. The results showed that NCF-Ag possesses good homogeneity, reproducibility, and stability. Additionally, CBZ was found to have a low limit of detection (LOD), i.e., 1.0 × 10−8M, which indicates the possibility for trace analysis. Furthermore, it presents good linearity withR2= 0.98 at 1007 and 1270 cm−1in the range from 10−4~10−7M CBZ.Keywords:nanocellulose;surface enhancement Raman scattering (SERS);carbendazim;Ag nanoparticle

Carbendazim (CBZ), a broad-spectrum benzimidazole fungicide, is widely applied to the management of plant pathogens and the prevention or treatment of fungal diseases in fruits, vegetables, and cereals. However, its excessive and repeated usage can lead to its bioaccumulation in edible crops, posing potential health and environmental risks. Conventional detection methods for CBZ are generally expensive, time-consuming, and unsuitable for on-site analysis. Here we present a portable, low-cost, and selective platform for the trace detection of CBZ residues based on aptamer conformational change and photonic crystal signal. A two-dimensional photonic crystal hydrogel (2DPCH) aptasensor was fabricated by integrating a CBZ-specific DNA aptamer into a poly(acrylamide- co -acrylic acid) hydrogel embedded with an ordered 2D array of polystyrene microspheres. Upon CBZ binding, the aptamer folds into a curled structure, contracting the hydrogel and reducing the interparticle spacing, resulting in a visible increase in the Debye diffraction ring diameter. Under optimized conditions, the sensor exhibited a linear response for CBZ concentrations from 1.0 × 10 −2 μM to 1.0 × 10 −1 μM, with a detection limit of 2.8 nM. The aptasensor also demonstrated excellent selectivity, anti-interference and stability, and performed reliably in real-sample analysis of apple skins and soil. This work integrates photonic crystal diffraction and aptamer-based molecular recognition for highly specific and label-free detection of CBZ. The conformational change of aptamer mechanically stresses the polymer network, modulating the interparticle spacing of 2D photonic crystals, and ultimately converting the molecular recognition into an amplified, macroscopic change in the Debye diffraction ring diameter. This strategy can be extended to construct other pesticides aptasensors by simply selecting other pesticides-specific aptamers. The platform enables simple, visual, selective and sensitive detection without the need for complex instrumentation, offering great potential for portable detection of pesticide residues in food and environmental samples.

This paper describes a fluorometric assay for the determination of carbendazim (CBZ) in aqueous samples based on an unmodified CBZ-specific aptamer and the fluorescent intercalator SYBR Green I (SG-I). The CBZ aptamer has double-stranded parts and G-quadruplex spatial structures, which can be recognized by SG-I. It leads to strong fluorescent emission of SG-I. In the presence of CBZ, the aptamer will bind to CBZ to form stable compounds due to its specific affinity. This will induce the conformational change of the aptamer. SG-I will then detach from the aptamer, leading to the decrease of its fluorescence. Therefore, the concentration of CBZ is determined through the changes in fluorescence of the system. This fluorometric biosensor for CBZ detection is constructed with a linear range from 3.58 to 230 nM with a limit of detection (LOD) of 3.58 nM. With great sensitivity and selectivity, this assay is efficient and convenient with a < 40 min operation time. Meanwhile, the average recovery of CBZ is 99.87–101.77% in the application of actual water samples with relative standard deviations (RSD) ranging from 1.97 to 2.63%.

Reduced holey graphene (rHG) has a large number of nanopores and a 3D porous network. As the pore size of the in-plane hole becomes larger, the defect density and the number of edges of rHG increase, which is conducive to accelerating electron transfer and exhibiting excellent electrochemical performance. The electrochemical sensor based on rHG successfully detects carbendazim in the concentration range of 0.1−100 μM with low detection limit (13.14 nM) and the sensitivity reaching to 22.541 μA μM −1 cm −2 . Furthermore, the sensor exhibits outstanding anti-interference, stability, and satisfactory recoveries in real samples.

Carbendazim is widely used in agriculture with resultant residues persisting in the environment posing a major concern to human and animal reproductive health. The focus of this study is to develop a stable and highly selective substrate for rapid, sensitive and cost-effective detection of carbendazim residues. A surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) active core–shell substrate was successfully prepared using molecular imprinting technology. Silver nanoparticles were prepared and coated with a thin silica (SiO2) shell to enhance the substrates' stability and recyclability. Subsequently, molecular imprinting on the Ag@SiO2 by precipitation polymerisation using carbendazim as the template was to ensure selectivity of the substrate. The composite Ag@SiO2-molecularly imprinted polymers(MIP) could selectively rebind and successfully detect carbendazim by SERS at concentrations as low as 10−9 M. The intensity of the Raman peaks increased with increase in the concentration of carbendazim. In addition, the substrate demonstrated reasonable reproducibility and reusability. The detection of carbendazim can be attributed to the presence of carbendazim-specific cavities on the imprinted shell to allow the analyte get onto or near the plasmonic core allowing electromagnetic and chemical enhancement resulting in the SERS signal. Therefore, Ag@SiO2-MIP is a stable and selective SERS substrate for detection of carbendazim.

Because of diverse adverse effects of carbendazim (CBZ) upon the human body and environment, a simple method for the determination of this molecule is urgently needed. Therefore, a method based on an aptamer was developed. An aptamer of carbendazim, CZ12, labeled with a fluorescent molecule (FAM), was adsorbed on graphene oxide (GO) by π-π stacking. The fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) between the molecule and GO was used to rapidly quench the fluorescence signal. In the presence of carbendazim, the fluorescent molecule selectively combines with carbendazim, thereby greatly reducing the binding efficiency of the former with GO. Thus, by mixing a FAM-labeled carbendazim aptamer, GO, and food samples, the carbendazim content was determined from the fluorescence measurements. The limit of quantification was 10.0 ng/mL for strawberry, banana, pitaya, and Panax notoginseng samples. The linear range was from 0 to 125 ng/mL with a linear correlation coefficient equal to 0.9918.

Sonochemistry is an innovative and sustainable method among the emerging non-thermal technologies for agrochemical removal, food processing, and preservation. The study aimed to investigate the effects of probe-type ultrasound (PU) on the residual degradation mechanisms of carbendazim (CBZ) fungicides, potential reduction pathways, and toxicity assessment. The results showed that CBZ fungicide residues were significantly reduced ( p < 0.05 ) by up to 79.20 % as the PU power level increased. The GC–MS analysis identified six degradation products of CBZ fungicides, including 3–2-Hydroxyphenyl-1,2,4-triazol-5-amine, 2-aminobenzimidazole, hexahydropyridine, 3-methoxy-benzaldehyde oxime,1,4-dimethylpyrazole, and 1-alanine-ethylamide. In addition, the toxicity of CBZ was evaluated against Aspergillus Niger (AN) using colony counts as an indicator of fungal growth, inhibition ratio, and survival rate. The results revealed that the lower power level showed a strong inhibition ratio of up to 73.30 % compared to the highest power level, which was 28.50 %. Increasing the power level significantly increased the AN’s survival rate from 25.50 % to 75.60 %. The current study’s results suggest that sonication has significant potential to degrade agrochemicals by generating hydroxyl radicals. The current study provides new insights into the sonication-assisted degradation of CZB by describing its degradation mechanism and toxicity assessment. Unlike literature-reported studies, our results proposed a detailed degradation pathway, degradation byproducts, and a toxicity assessment of degradation intermediates, providing both the degradation behavior and the effectiveness of sonication treatment in reducing agrochemical residues.

This work designed a low-cost and sensitive electrochemical sensor based on chitosan (CTS)-modified peanut shell-derived porous carbon (PSPC) for the detection of carbendazim (CBZ). PSPC exhibited a unique three-dimensional interconnected porous structure. The hierarchical porous carbon architecture with high specific surface area not only enhanced the adsorption capacity of CBZ but also significantly increased the interface contact area of electrode/electrolyte. CTS was uniformly deposited on the surface of PSPC via ultrasound-assisted liquid-phase dispersion method for the preparation of the PSPC@CTS nanocomposite. Benefiting from the good biocompatibility, adsorption ability and film-forming property of CTS, the PSPC@CTS modified electrode demonstrated good CBZ enrichment ability and improved structural stability. The PSPC@CTS/GCE sensor exhibited a low detection limit of 17.41 nM (S/N = 3) within the linear CBZ concentration range of 0.01–10.0 µM. Satisfactory recoveries of 96.78 –100.42% could validate its practical application potential of the PSPC@CTS modified sensor for the CBZ detection in food samples.
