Intensive energy dependence and membrane fouling are the inherent limitations of membrane distillation (MD) process for the application. Solar energy is promising sustainable energy for both alleviating the energy shortage and activating the Fenton-like reaction for various pollutants degradation. By in situ integrating Fenton-like and photothermal MD processes, the restriction of energy dependence and membrane fouling on the MD process might be effectively liberated. In this study, Co-MoS 2 /CNT was introduced to PTFE membrane modification through vacuum filtration, which simultaneously endowed the membrane with optothermal effect and Fenton-like activation abilities. The membrane was evaluated in a dye wastewater treatment under the irradiation of 1 kW/m 2 light density. Results showed that the degradation degree of RhB can reach 80 % within 1 h on the feed side, while the permeate flux maintains at 2.43 kg/(m 2 ·h) with an initial feed temperature of 35 °C. In addition, the flux of the Co-MoS 2 /CNT/PTFE membrane can be maintained above 95 % after three fouling-cleaning cycles, indicating that the modified membrane has a good self-cleaning performance. This work provides a low carbon option which improving mass transfer effect and fouling control ability for dye wastewater treatment by MD using solar energy.

Realizing MoS2 basal plane activation is highly desirable and challenging in the field of hydrodesulfurization (HDS). Herein, we have developed a new strategy of dual Co single atom doping (SAD) combined with CO in situ regulation, which can successfully activate the basal plane of Co3.6%–MoS2-0.3 generating high ratios of thermostable 1T-plane (∼70%) and large S vacancies. For the first time, a synergistic effect has been unraveled where the lattice substituted neighboring dual SA Co can efficiently activate in-plane S through extensively reducing its band gap (2.21 → 0.14 eV), which tremendously favors S subtraction and 2H → 1T phase transition assisted by CO. Boosted thiophene HDS activity can be eventually achieved with the reaction rate constant (k) being 8.3 times higher than that of commercial cCo3.6%–MoS2 (0.04 → 0.33 h–1). Generally, the present work paves a new way for next-generation HDS catalyst design with activated basal plane.

The design and synthesis of non-precious metal catalysts that effectively convert water into molecular hydrogen in an acidic environment is essential to reduce the energy loss in the water splitting process. Among them, molybdenum disulfide (MoS 2 ) is considered as an effective alternative to Pt-based materials due to its excellent structure properties. Here, by using metal-organic framework (MOF) as the precursor, sodium molybdate as molybdenum sources and thiourea as sulfur sources, a hollow structure of Co–MoS 2 electrocatalyst was prepared on highly conductive carbon nanowire arrays/carbon cloth (CA/CC) by hydrothermal reaction . The combination of carbon nanowire arrays and carbon cloth ensures the high conductivity, while the hollow Co–MoS 2 structure promotes the penetration of electrolytes and the release of hydrogen bubbles . The overpotential is only 296 mV when the current density was ~1500 mA/cm 2 , which shows excellent catalytic hydrogen evolution activity of the material. In addition, the three-dimensional hollow structure avoids the use of adhesives between the active material and the self-supporting material, which can improve the stability of the material and provides a new idea to design commercial electrocatalysts.
