Graphical This study focuses on a green synthesis of Cu 2 O and Cu 2 O−Ag particles using ascorbic acid (LAA) as a reducing agent in the presence of two surfactants, polyethylene glycol 6000 and sodium dodecyl sulfate. The hybrid materials exhibit strongly antibacterial activity and are potential for the application in the acrylic emulsion coating. Nanomaterials based on metal oxides, especially Cu 2 O, have received much attention in recent years due to the many unique properties of the surface plasmon resonance they provide. The report presented the co-precipitation method, a simple preparation method to produce Cu 2 O oxide particles. In addition, to improve the unique antibacterial properties of Cu 2 O, a proposed method is to attach Ag nanoparticles to the surface of Cu 2 O particles. The Cu 2 O and Cu 2 O−Ag particles were synthesized based on redox reactions using ascorbic acid (LAA) as a reducing agent. Moreover, in this experiment, two surfactants, polyethylene glycol 6000 (PEG 6000) and sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), were added during the manufacturing process to create particle samples and particle combinations with better properties than the original sample. Changes in the characteristics and properties of particle samples are determined by many different physical and chemical methods such as ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy (UV-Vis), infrared spectroscopy (IR), noise X-ray radiation (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), dynamic light scattering (DLS), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Finally, the activity against bacteria, including E. coli and S. aureus , was also tested using the agar well diffusion method to determine the zone of inhibition. The results improved the particle size value, which decreased by half to 200 nm when two additional surfactants, PEG and SDS, were added. In addition, the antibacterial ability has also been shown to increase significantly when the diameter of the bacterial inhibition zone increased significantly, reaching values of 20 mm (Cu 2 O/Ag/SDS) and 32 mm (Cu 2 O/Ag/PEG) for the E. coli bacterial strain. The initial test sample was only about 14 mm in size. The S. aureus bacterial strain also had a similar improvement trend after adding Ag to the Cu 2 O surface with the appearance of two surfactants, SDS and PEG. The inhibition zone diameter values reached the optimal value at 36 mm in the Cu 2 O/Ag/PEG particle combination sample compared to only the initial 26 mm in the Cu 2 O particle sample. Finally, the particle samples are added to the acrylic emulsion paint film to evaluate the changes. Positive results were obtained, such as improvement in adhesion (1.22 MPa), relative hardness (240/425), and sand drop resistance (100 L/mil) in the Cu 2 O/Ag/PEG particle combination sample, which showed the correctness and accuracy of the research.

In this study, 3D Fe 3 O 4 micro-flowers were synthesized by the self-assembly approach, then rhombic dodecahedral Cu 2 O was successfully loaded onto their surface by wet chemical method . Ag nanocrystals were reduced in situ on the surface of Fe 3 O 4 /Cu 2 O composites to prepare novel Fe 3 O 4 /Cu 2 O/Ag composites. The composites were characterized by SEM, TEM, XRD , XPS, VSM and UV–Vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy. The effect of Ag nanocrystals on the photocatalytic performance of the Fe 3 O 4 /Cu 2 O composites was investigated by the degradation of methyl orange under visible light irradiation, and the Fe 3 O 4 /Cu 2 O/Ag composites showed higher photocatalytic efficiency than the Fe 3 O 4 /Cu 2 O composites. Photoelectrochemical and PL measurements were carried out to investigate the synergistic effect between the semiconductors and Ag nanocrystals and it was confirmed that the Fe 3 O 4 /Cu 2 O/Ag composites effectively inhibited the recombination of electron-hole pairs, thus improving the photocatalytic activity. The fact that the Fe 3 O 4 /Cu 2 O/Ag composites could be magnetically recycled and that they retained more than 90% of their original activity after six repeated experiments indicates, that they show great potential for wastewater treatment applications.

The persistent accumulation of tetracycline (TC) antibiotics in aquatic environments poses severe ecological and public health risks, necessitating the development of multifunctional platforms capable of simultaneous detection and degradation. Herein, we report magnetically recoverable plasmonic Fe3O4/Cu2O-Ag nanocomposites (NCs) that integrate visible-light-driven photocatalysis with ultrasensitive surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) detection. Hierarchical flower-like Fe3O4nanocrystals were employed as magnetic supports, followed by in situ growth of Cu2O nanocrystals and controlled deposition of Ag nanocrystals. The optimized composite (FCA-2) exhibited enhanced visible-light absorption (Eg= 1.86 eV), suppressed electron–hole recombination, and improved photocurrent response, which were attributed to Schottky barrier formation at the Cu2O-Ag interface and localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) effects. Under simulated solar irradiation, FCA-2 NCs achieved 91.79% degradation of TC within 60 min, following pseudo-first-order kinetics (k = 20.37 × 10−3min−1). Finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) simulations revealed that optimal Ag loading maximized plasmonic “hot spot” density, thereby enhancing electromagnetic field intensity and SERS performance. The FCA-2 substrate enabled ultrasensitive TC detection with a limit of detection of as low as 10−10M. Moreover, the superparamagnetic Fe3O4core allowed for rapid magnetic separation and sustained performance over multiple SERS–photocatalysis cycles, with negligible signal attenuation after 30 days. This work presents a rational strategy for constructing plasmonic magnetic NCs that synergistically couple photocatalytic remediation, ultrasensitive sensing, and magnetic recyclability, offering significant potential for integrated environmental monitoring and sustainable water treatment applications.

Electrocatalytic CO2 reduction reaction (CO2RR) to high value-added products, such as ethylene (C2H4), offers a promising approach to achieve carbon neutrality. Although recent studies have reported that a tandem catalyst (for example, Cu–Ag systems) exhibits advantage in C2H4 production, its practical application is largely inhibited by the following: (1) a traditional tandem catalyst cannot effectively stabilize the *CO intermediate, resulting in sluggish C–C coupling, and (2) inadequate H2O activation ability hinders the hydrogenation of intermediates. To break through the above bottleneck, herein, palladium (Pd) was introduced into Cu2O–Ag, a typical conventional tandem catalyst, to construct a Cu2O–Pd–Ag ternary catalyst. Extensive experiment and density functional theory calculation prove that Pd can efficiently stabilize the *CO intermediate and promote the H2O activation, which contributes to the C–C coupling and intermediate hydrogenation, the key steps in the conversion of CO2 to C2H4. Beneficial to the efficient synergy of Cu2O, Pd, and Ag, the optimal Cu2O–Pd–Ag ternary catalyst achieves CO2RR toward C2H4 with a faradaic efficiency of 63.2% at −1.2 VRHE, which is higher than that achieved by Cu2O–Ag and most of other reported catalysts. This work is a fruitful exploration of a rare ternary catalyst, providing a new route for constructing an efficient CO2RR electrocatalyst.

Semiconductor metal-oxide/metal heterostructures with synergetic properties have potential applications in photocatalysis and optical sensors. Here, Cu 2 O sub-micro cubes were synthesized under environmentally benign conditions using 2, 2, 6, 6-tetramethylpyperdine-1-oxyl (TEMPO)-oxidized cellulose nanofibrils as a reducing and stabilizing agent. Then the surface of the Cu 2 O cubes was decorated with silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) by a substitution reaction. The Cu 2 O/Ag heterostructures within the cellulose nanofibrils (CNFs) network were employed as a promising surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) assay for efficient sensing of methylene blue (MB), reaching a maximum enhancement factor (EF) of 4.0 × 10 4 . Their SERS intensities depended on the coverage density of AgNPs and the wavelength of the excitation laser. The excellent SERS performance may result from the charge transfer between Ag and Cu 2 O molecules and the strong electromagnetic field at the interface. The CNF-Cu 2 O/Ag substrates were capable of detecting MB dye down to 10 −8 M level with a relative standard deviation of 10–15%, demonstrating great sensitivity and reproducibility.

Combining the advantages of semiconductors and precious metals to produce highly sensitive Surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) substrates. In this paper, Cu 2 O@Ag core-shell particles were prepared, optical fibers were selected as substrates to strengthen the portability of SERS substrates, optical fiber SERS probes were prepared by electrostatic adsorption method and chemical bonding method, and the performance of SERS probes prepared by the two methods under the same deposition time was discussed, which it was found that the optical fiber probes prepared by chemical bonding method had better Raman enhancement effect. Rhodamine 6G(R6G) was used as the detection molecule to investigate the detection limit, uniformity, reproducibility of fiber SERS probe. 4-nitrophenyl thiophenol (4-NTP) is an organic molecule used in the synthesis of pesticides and dyes, excessive use can be harmful, it was found that the detection concentration of 4-NTP is as low as 10 −6 M, and the detection limit of the optical fiber SERS probe is used to detect thiram in pears, which its detection limit is 0.5 mg/L, which is far lower than the national standard of the United States and China (5 mg/L). The above experimental results show that an excellent fiber optic SERS probe has been successfully developed.

Tetracycline (TC), a widely used broad-spectrum antibiotic for treating bacterial infections, poses significant risks to human health and ecological environments caused by extensive abuse. Hence, sensitive detection and efficient degradation of TC are crucial for protecting both human health and ecological environment. In this work, a multifunctional Z-scheme Cu 2 O@Ag/g-C 3 N 4 heterojunction was designed and constructed in order to achieve both ultrasensitive surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) detection and efficient photocatalytic degradation of TC. The influence of the Ag content on the SERS performance was investigated using the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method. The charge transfer (CT) mechanism was deduced by band gap and Fermi level calculations. The results showed that the synergistic effect of electromagnetic enhancement (EM) and chemical enhancement (CE) contributed to the excellent SERS sensitivity of Cu 2 O@Ag/g-C 3 N 4 nanocomposites (NCs). The limit of detection (LOD) for TC using Cu 2 O@Ag/g-C 3 N 4 NCs as SERS substrate was as low as 10 −12 M, and the SERS substrate could also be used to TC detection in real milk samples. In addition, Cu 2 O@Ag/g-C 3 N 4 NCs could also act as the efficient photocatalyst to achieve the removal of TC with degradation rate of 94 % under visible light irradiation. Especially, the Cu 2 O@Ag/g-C 3 N 4 NCs maintained excellent photocatalytic performance even after six cycles. Possible degradation pathways and photocatalytic degradation mechanism of TC catalyzed by Cu 2 O@Ag/g-C 3 N 4 NCs were also proposed. This multifunctional Z-scheme Cu 2 O@Ag/g-C 3 N 4 NCs should thus have great potential for the integration of ultrasensitive SERS detection and efficient degradation of antibiotics.

Implant-associated infections (IAIs) are severe complications following orthopedic procedures involving implanted materials. Previous researchers had created various antibacterial coatings to prevent early postoperative infections. Nevertheless, these coatings frequently lack the wear-resistant properties necessary for long-term effectiveness, and their production process is intricate. To overcome this challenge, we developed and employed a chemical technique, incorporating Ag or Cu 2 O nanoparticles uniformly into the surface of titanium alloys to confer antibacterial properties. The microstructure and elemental composition of the coating were characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy-dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). Our results demonstrated that the coating exhibited potent antibacterial activity, eliminating nearly all adhered bacteria within the first 6 hours. Prolonged friction test results revealed that the coating retained notable antibacterial activity and excellent biocompatibility. Notably, the straightforward fabrication process of this coating could allow for its application on implants of various shapes and materials, underscoring its potential for broad clinical adoption. In summary, this simple chemical method for surface modification of titanium alloys could provide long-lasting antibacterial properties, offering a cost-efficient and transformative strategy for preventing implant-associated infections. Dual-mode sensing can enhance detection reliability by cross-validating results from distinct signals. Herein, a colorimetric and turbidimetric dual-mode sensing platform based on Cu 2 O@Ag nanozyme with robust oxidase-like activity is developed for point-of-use (POU) detection of demeton. The Cu 2 O@Ag efficiently catalyzes the oxidation of 3,3′,5,5′-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB), producing concurrent absorbance and turbidity signals. Demeton blocks active sites and suppresses catalytic activity in a concentration-dependent manner. Based on the principle, two modes for POU testing of demeton are developed. The first mode is based on a smartphone-assisted colorimetric swab and shows a linear range of 50 - 4000 ng/mL with the detection limit of 0.190 ng/mL. The other is based on a portable turbidimeter and exhibits a linear detection range of 50 to 3000 ng/mL with a detection limit of 2.997 ng/mL. The approaches are successfully validated in real food samples including baby cabbage, lettuce, cilantro, and tea leaves. This work presents a rapid, low-cost, and instrument-flexible dual-mode sensing strategy for on-site analysis of demeton residue. Also, the dual-mode detection based on colorimetric and turbidimetric signals for the first time offers a novel insight for dual-mode sensing.
