In situ hydrogenation of unsaturated compounds by released hydrogen from various hydrogen sources is a good strategy to achieve highly selective hydrogenation. In this work, inexpensive CuO/TiO 2 nanocomposites were systematically screened their performance for catalyzing dehydrogenation of ammonia borane (AB) and the tandem hydrogenation of some nitroaromatics. Those CuO/TiO 2 binary nanocomposites were found to maximize the hydrogen production from the catalytic hydrolysis of AB. Owing to a positive in-situ hydrogen activation, under mild conditions these CuO/TiO 2 nanocomposites exhibited highly excellent reactivities accompanying with better recyclability in the current one-pot hydrogenation. Notably, a selected CuO (0.5) /TiO 2(0.5) nanocomposites displayed high activity and regioselectivity (up to100% yield of aim product) as well as increased ability of inhibiting the dehalogenation reaction, especially for 4-bromonitrobenzene or 4-iodonitrobenzene (up to 71.65% yield for 4-bromoaniline or 68.02% yield of 4-iodoaniline). Moreover, that CuO (0.5) /TiO 2(0.5) nanocomposites from a co-precipitation method displayed relatively better recyclability against those two control samples obtained from a stepwise preparation process.

In this work, TiO 2 nano-octahedron and nano-rods were successfully synthesized, and Cu oxides were loaded on them. Structures of CuO/TiO 2 catalysts were studied by XRD, TEM, and Raman techniques. It was founded that TiO 2 nano-octahedron and nano-rods dominantly exposed (101) and (100) facets of TiO 2 , respectively. Cu cations located in tetrahedral vacant sites on (101) facet of TiO 2 and coordinated with 4 neighbor oxygen, whereas it located in octahedral vacant sites on (100) facet of TiO 2 and coordinated with 6 neighbor oxygen, which resulted in redox cycle Cu 2+ +Ti 3+ ⟵→Cu + +Ti 4+ and more acid sites on surface of CuO/TiO 2 nano-octahedron, and thus the enhanced NH 3 -SCR performance.

CuO-based catalysts have garnered significant attention for CO oxidation reaction, while their susceptibility to sulfur poisoning limits their practical application in industrial flue gas treatment. In this study, three CuTi oxide catalysts with distinct CuO-TiO 2 heterointerfaces were prepared by sol-gel, impregnation, and mechanical mixing methods to investigate the influence of interfacial structure on CO oxidation activity and SO 2 tolerance. Catalytic performance and characterization show that a high-density CuO-TiO 2 heterointerface can induce the formation of strong Cu Ti interactions and improve the dispersion of copper species. These effects facilitate CO adsorption and increase oxygen vacancy concentration, thereby enhancing the low-temperature CO oxidation activity. Although the high-density heterointerface enhances SO 2 adsorption capacity, the accompanying strong Cu Ti interaction reduces the stability of copper sulfate (Cu-O-S) species. This promotes the decomposition of copper sulfate and helps preserve active sites, thus improving SO 2 tolerance. This work offers new insights into the rational design of sulfur-tolerant CuO-based catalysts for CO oxidation.

HKUST-1 MOFs and its derivative HKUST-CuO were coupled with TiO 2 nanoparticles to form the heterogeneous composites of HKUST-1/TiO 2 and HKUST-CuO/TiO 2 based on their well-suitable bandgap energies (Eg). Compared with mono-component HKUST-1 or HKUST-CuO, the prepared composites displayed photoelectrochemical (PEC) response due to the synergistic effect from their heterogeneous structure. Higher photocurrent response was obtained on HKUST-CuO/TiO 2 -modified ITO electrode (HKUST-CuO/TiO 2 /ITO), which could be attributed to the hollow structure with a thin shell of HKUST-CuO greatly enhancing visible spectra harvesting. The CuO component in HKUST-CuO not only could accelerate electron transfer on the heterojunction interface but also effectively separate the photo-generated charge carriers (e −1 /h + ). Based on the excellent PEC performance of prepared photoactive composite material, under visible-light excitation ( λ ≥ 420 nm) and with a working potential of 0 V (vs. Ag/AgCl), the S1 (probe DNA)/HKUST-CuO/TiO 2 /ITO PEC platform was successfully fabricated for colitoxin DNA detection without using ascorbic acid (AA) as an electron donor. Compared with the analysis results on S1/HKUST-1/TiO 2 /ITO electrode, S1/HKUST-CuO/TiO 2 /ITO displayed a wider linear response range from 1.0 × 10 −6 to 4.0 × 10 −1 nM with a lower detection limit of 3.73 × 10 −7 nM (S/ N = 3), the linear regression equation was Δ I (10 −6 A) =0.5549–0.1858 log ( C S2 /M), which confirmed the HKUST-CuO could improve sensitivity because of its prominent PEC property. The relative standard deviation (RSD) of the PEC sensor for target DNA detection of 2.0 × 10 −4 nM was 7.4%. The proposed DNA biosensor also possessed good specificity and stability. Hence, this reported work was a promising strategy for molecular diagnosis in the bio-analysis field. Graphical abstract

Simultaneous nitrogen monoxide (NO) reduction and elemental mercury (Hg 0 ) oxidation in the presence of ammonia (NH 3 ) was for the first time studied on a copper oxide/titanium dioxide (CuO/TiO 2 ) catalyst at low flue gas temperatures. More than 80% NO reduction and 90% Hg 0 oxidation were concurrently achieved on the CuO/TiO 2 catalyst at 250 °C under a simulated NH 3 selective catalytic reduction (SCR) atmosphere. NO was likely oxidized on the CuO/TiO 2 catalyst to form active nitrogenous species, particularly with the aid of oxygen. The active nitrogenous species then significantly promoted Hg 0 oxidation. NH 3 itself did not affect Hg 0 conversion on the CuO/TiO 2 catalyst. The co-occurrences of NO and NH 3 led to a reduction in oxidized mercury (HgO in this work), which partially offset the Hg 0 oxidation and therefore resulted in a relatively lower Hg 0 conversion efficiency. However, compared to flue gas without NO and NH 3 , the combined presence of NO and NH 3 still enhanced Hg 0 oxidation over the CuO/TiO 2 catalyst, primarily because of the overwhelming benefit from NO. This is superior to many other SCR catalysts, including commercial vanadia-based SCR catalysts, on which an SCR atmosphere generally inhibits Hg 0 conversion.
