A novel oxonitridosilicate, Li2La8Si6N12O7 was successfully synthesized at 1200 °C using Li3N as a flux. The crystal structure was determined through single-crystal and synchrotron powder X-ray diffraction. Li2La8Si6N12O7 crystallizes in orthorhombic space group Pcca (no. 54) with unit-cell parameters a = 15.5319(1) Å, b = 7.7382(1) Å, c = 15.5019(1) Å, and Z = 4. The structure features a layered framework built from vertex-sharing Si[N/O]4 tetrahedra, with Li[N/O]6 octahedra connecting and stabilizing both the interlayer and intralayer linkages. The octahedral coordination of Li+ was confirmed by solid-state 7Li NMR spectroscopy. Notably, the incorporation of Pr3+ and Tb3+ into the Li2La8Si6N12O7 host yields narrow-band red emission at 630 nm and green emission at 545 nm. This combination facilitates the fabrication of 365 nm near-ultraviolet light-emitting diode (UV LED) chip-based WLEDs with superior color rendering performance.

The commercialization of lithium metal batteries (LMBs) is fundamentally challenged by Li dendrite growth, which originates from an unstable solid electrolyte interphase (SEI). Engineering a Li 3 N-enriched SEI is highly desirable for achieving high conductivity and mechanical strength, but the kinetic barrier of the LiNO 3 -to-Li 3 N conversion remains a major obstacle. Here, we report a catalytic approach to engineer Li 3 N-enriched SEI layers by accelerating LiNO 3 reduction using transition metal single-atom catalysts supported on nitrogen-doped carbon (M/NC, M = Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Zn). Among them, Co/NC exhibits the highest catalytic activity, leading to an SEI with significantly enhanced mechanical robustness and ionic transport. Theoretical calculations reveal that the superior performance of Co/NC stems from the minimal energy difference between its frontier molecular orbitals and those of the key LiNO intermediate, facilitating the electron transfer process. Consequently, the symmetric battery using Co/NC catalyst achieves exceptional cyclability for over 2500 h (1 mA cm −2 , 1 mAh cm −2 ). When applied in full cells, the Co/NC-modified current collector also yields a dramatically prolonged cycle life. This work underscores the profound role of interfacial catalysis in designing high-performance SEI for practical LMBs.

Lithium dendrite growth in solid electrolytes (SEs) is one of the most serious challenges to the commercialization of all-solid-state lithium-metal batteries(ASSLMBs) with SEs. Herein , we propose an electrochemical strategy to realize an in-situ modified solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) that can simultaneously resolve both interfacial and dendrite issues. By controlling the current and deposition time in electrochemical treatment, ordered reaction between lithium metal and Si 3 N 4 particles are realized to effectively produce a Li 3 N-LiF-rich multifunctional composit including Li−Si alloys. The consequent symmetric cells demonstrated a remarkably high critical current density up to 3.3mA cm −2 at room temperature and stable plating/stripping process over 1200h at a current density of 0.5mA cm −2 . Moreover, LiCoO 2 /Li 6 PS 5 Cl/Li ASSLMBs delivered a high safety and long life of more than 500 cycles at 1.0mA cm −2 with a steady coulombic efficiency.

All-solid-state lithium metal batteries have attracted much attention for their high energy density and safety. Lithium argyrodite is an attractive solid-state electrolyte (SSE) due to its high ionic conductivity and excellent processability at room temperature. However, the poor interfacial contact and side reactions between Li metal and lithium argyrodite seriously hinder its practical applications. In this work, we prepared the lithium argyrodite Li 5.5 PS 4.5 Cl 1.5 (LPSCl) with room temperature lithium ion conductivity up to 11.2 mS/cm, and improved the interfacial stability between Li metal and LPSCl by introducing a Li 3 N interlayer with high ionic conductivity. As a result, the interfacial resistance can be reduced to as low as 1.4 Ω cm 2 in symmetric cells. The symmetrical cells can be stably cycled for >650 h at a current density of 0.5 mA cm −2 , with a critical current density as high as 1.9 mA cm −2 . Moreover, a Li/Li 3 N-LPSCl/NCM811 all-solid-state lithium battery also displays high cycling efficiency and stability over 260 cycles at 50 °C. This work provides a new idea for further optimizing the interface of all-solid-state lithium metal batteries .

Lithium metal has attracted extensive attention as a promising anode material for high-performance lithium batteries. However, an unstable and fragile solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) could be formed by the side reactions between Li metal and liquid electrolytes and induce the formation of dendritic growth. Here, we propose a facile strategy to fabricate fluorine- and nitrogen-donating gel polymer electrolytes (FN-GPEs) via the polymerization of hexafluorobutyl methacrylate (HFBMA) and triazole-based methacrylate (TBMA). A uniform porous structure is formed through the regulation of the ratio of HFBMA and TBMA in the polymer matrix, which is beneficial for absorbing the liquid electrolyte and enhancing the ionic conductivity. More significantly, the FN-GPEs containing abundant fluorinated and nitrided chains could form a stable SEI in situ with the components of LiF and Li3N. This facile strategy can achieve the complementary advantages of LiF- and Li3N-based SEI protective layers and significantly enhance the interfacial stability. Consequently, the FN-GPEs exhibit high porosity, high ionic conductivity, enhanced Li-ion transference number, and a wide electrochemical window, which endow the Li/Li symmetrical cells with excellent cyclic stability, and the LiFePO4/Li batteries show good long-term cycling stability. This work provides a new avenue to construct a stable SEI in situ on Li metal via molecular design to achieve high-performance LMBs.

Quasi-solid-state lithium metal batteries (QSSLMBs) using gel polymer electrolytes (GPEs) promise safer high-energy storage, but their performance is limited by interfacial instability that requires both fast Li + transport and durable electrode-electrolyte contact. Here we present an in-situ two-step strategy that couples electrochemical reduction with thermal curing to transform a spin-coated LiNO 3 precursor into a functionally synergistic Li 3 N/Li 2 CO 3 composite artificial SEI. The electrochemical step contributes to the formation of Li 3 N-containing ion-conducting species, while the curing step during GPE polymerization is associated with a more carbonate-rich surface that improves interfacial compatibility. DFT calculations show stronger ethylene carbonate adsorption on Li 2 CO 3 than on LiF, consistent with markedly improved wettability, as the electrolyte contact angle decreases from about 81° on cycled bare Li to about 11° on the engineered interface. The optimized anode enables stable symmetric cell cycling with 70 mV polarization for over 1200 h at 0.8 mA cm −2 , and LiFePO 4 full cells retain 95.5% capacity after 250 cycles at 0.3C and 94.4% after 300 cycles at 1C. This work shows that cooperative regulation of ion transport and contact retention within an inorganic-dominant multicomponent SEI can improve the stability of quasi-solid-state lithium metal interfaces.

The accelerated formation of lithium dendrites has considerably impeded the advancement and practical deployment of all-solid-state lithium metal batteries (ASSLMBs). In this study, a soft carbon (SC)–Li3N interface layer was developed with both ionic and electronic conductivity, for which the in situ lithiation reaction not only lithiated SC into LiC6 with good electronic/ionic conductivity but also successfully transformed the mixed-phase Li3N into pure-phase β-Li3N with a high ionic conductivity/ion diffusion coefficient and stability to lithium metal. The mixed conductive interface layer facilitates fast Li+ transport at the interface and induces the homogeneous deposition of lithium metal inside it. This effectively inhibits the formation of lithium dendrites and greatly improves the performance of the ASSLMB. The ASSLMB assembled with the SC–Li3N interface layer exhibits high areal capacity (15 mA h cm–2), high current density (7.5 mA cm–2), and long cycle life (6000 cycles). These results indicate that this interface layer has great potential for practical applications in high-energy-density ASSLMBs.

Regenerating graphite anode materials from spent lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) is essential for improving resource utilization and reducing environmental impact. However, conventional recycling routes often require excessive energy input, incur high costs, and deliver regenerated graphite with unsatisfactory electrochemical performance. To address these limitations, we propose a low-temperature catalytic repair strategy based on an integrated carbon source, nitrogen source, and catalyst system. Chitosan serves as both the carbon precursor and the in situ nitrogen dopant, while a cobalt salt functions as both a catalyst and a pore-forming template. At a mild temperature of 600 °C, a porous nitrogen-doped graphene-like carbon (PNGC) layer is constructed on the surface of spent graphite (SG). This functional layer repairs surface defects and promotes the formation of a Li 3 N-rich solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) during cycling. Benefiting from this interfacial engineering, Li + transport kinetics are markedly accelerated, parasitic electrolyte decomposition is suppressed, and both the rate capability and cycling stability of the graphite anode are significantly improved. The regenerated graphite anode delivers an initial Coulombic efficiency of 86.73% and reversible capacities of 370.6, 336.1, and 206.9 mAh g −1 at 0.1C, 1C, and 2 C, respectively, with 90.13% capacity retention after 700 cycles at 1 C, demonstrating performance comparable to that of commercial graphite. Life cycle assessment (LCA) further confirms the environmental and economic advantages of this low-temperature catalytic process, offering a green and feasible pathway for the closed-loop high-value utilization of spent graphite. The constructed porous nitrogen-doped graphene-like carbon (PNGC) layer repairs surface defects of spent graphite, induces the formation of a Li 3 N-rich stable SEI, and provides fast Li + transport channels, synergistically enhancing the electrochemical performance of regenerated graphite. Extensive research has focused on the lithium (Li) metal anode, but progress in developing this technology has been hindered by the formation of lithium dendrites and their irreversible effects. In this study, an inorganic LiF-Li 3 N-rich solid electrolyte interface (SEI) is established in ether electrolyte through the direct use of 2,3-difluoro-5-(trifluoromethyl)pyridine (DP) to enable uniform Li deposition and enhance interfacial properties for a stable Li metal anode. Theoretical calculations show that DP has a higher tendency to decompose on lithium metal. An alternative approach involving the inclusion of additional anions into the solvation sheath of Li + ions using weakly solvating solvents is proposed. During Li plating, DP is reduced to form a LiF and Li 3 N-rich SEI, resulting in a heterogeneous SEI layer on the Li metal anode surface. This approach allows stable cycling of Li|Li cells for over 1800 h at current densities of 5 mA cm −2 and 15 mAh cm −2 . The method presented here has potential significance in the identification of suitable electrolytes for future research on lithium metal anodes.

Cycling lithium (Li) metal anode with a low negative/positive capacity (N/P) ratio is critical to build high-energy-density Li metal batteries (LMBs). Many strategies focusing on interfacial protection are limited to shallow conditions using excessive Li with a high negative/positive capacity (N/P) ratio > 50. Herein, we demonstrate a deeply enhanced charge transfer kinetic by a rational incorporation of nickel (Ni) seeds in the Li anodes with a tailored interfacial chemistry. The Ni seeds in the bulk Li anode not only act as well-dispersed nucleation sites to enable Ni-seeded growth of granular Li deposits, but also adsorb acetonitrile (AN) molecules when the Ni-seeded Li anodes are paired with an AN-based electrolyte using lithium bis-(fluorosulfonyl)imide as salt, forming a fast Li + conducting interphase with co-produced LiF, Li 3 N and Li 2 S components. These benefits conduct an exchange current density ~ 20 times higher than that of the bare Li in conventional carbonate electrolytes. Stable cycling of LMBs with a practical cathode loading (~ 5 mAh cm −2 ) and a low N/P capacity ratio of 2 is also demonstrated, showing the prominence of this remedy for developing high-energy-density LMBs.

Lithium (Li) is a promising anode for high-energy rechargeable batteries but its practical implementation is impeded by uncontrollable dendrite growth and huge volume changes. Herein, we report a dendrite-free Li composite anode with minimum volume change, which is composed of 3D interpenetrating Li and lithiophilic MoN nanosheets prepared by mechanical rolling and folding. The conductive 2D MoN nanosheets boasting excellent lithiophilic affinity and small lattice mismatch with Li induce planar Li plating therefore suppressing dendrite growth along the perpendicular direction. The MoN nanosheets interwoven framwork provides abundant Li accommodation sites and the horizontally plated Li fills the nanoscale gaps between the MoN nanosheets, thus minimizing volume change during cycling. Li 3 N generated in situ by the surface reaction between MoN and Li enhances the ionic conductivity and interface stability. The Li-MoN anode shows a low Li plating overpotential of 15.0 mV and excellent stability for 2,500 h at 1 mA cm −2 . Paired with the LiFePO 4 cathode, the full cell shows 99.7 % Coulombic efficiency and 87.7 % capacity retention after 650 cycles at 170 mA g −1 . The results provide insights into the design of 3D host enabling planar Li plating for dendrite-free and minimum-volume-change Li metal anodes.

Li metal anode has been considered as the ideal anode for next-generation batteries due to its ultrahigh capacity and lowest electrochemical potential. However, its practical application is still impeded by low Coulombic efficiency, huge volume change, and safety hazards arising from Li dendrite growth. In this work, a three-dimensional (3D) structured highly stable Li metal anode is designed and easily preapred. Benefiting from the in situ reaction between Li metal and AlN, highly Li+ conductive Li3N and lithiophilic LiAl alloy have been simultaneously formed and homogeneously distributed in the framework, in which Li metal is finely dispersed and embedded. The outstanding electron/ion mixed conductivity of Li3N/LiAl and 3D composite structure with enhanced interfacial area significantly improve the electrode kinetics and suppress the volume change on cycling, while a lithiophilic effect of LiAl alloy and uniform distribution of Li ion flux inside the electrode avoid dendritic Li deposition. As a result, the proposed Li metal electrode exhibits exceptional electrochemical reversibility in both carbonate and ether-based electrolytes. Paired with LiFePO4 and sulfurized polyacrylonitrile (S@pPAN) cathodes, the full cells deliver highly stable and long-term cycling performance. Therefore, the proposed strategy to fabricate Li metal anodes could promote the practical application of Li metal batteries.
