Regulating the electronic structure of Fe active sites is an effective strategy to enhance peroxymonosulfate (PMS)-triggered high-valent iron-oxo (Fe IV =O) systems for environmental remediation. In this study, we designed the emerging two-dimensional Mo 4 / 3 B 2 MBene with ordered metal vacancies as ideal anchoring sites for Fe Ⅲ to boost PMS activation and regulate Fe IV =O generation. The Mo 4 / 3 B 2 MBene/Fe Ⅲ /PMS system exhibits outstanding catalytic performance: the pseudo-first-order rate constant ( k obs ) of bisphenol A (BPA) degradation is 200-fold higher than that of the pristine Fe Ⅲ /PMS system, and over 90% of BPA can be removed within 5 min. PMSO probe experiments and density functional theory (DFT) calculations confirm that surface-anchored Fe Ⅲ acts as the active center to activate PMS via direct electron transfer for Fe IV =O formation, and verify the critical role of ordered metal vacancies. Quenching experiments and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy reveal that sulfate radicals and hydroxyl radicals serve as supplementary reactive oxygen species in the Mo 4 / 3 B 2 MBene/Fe Ⅲ /PMS system. This work provides a new Fe site design strategy to promote Fe IV =O generation for water purification.

Broadband near-infrared (NIR) luminescent materials hold the key to next-generation, smart, NIR light sources. The emerging halide perovskite materials are regarded as promising candidates for optoelectronics because of their superior optical properties and easy solution processability. However, it remains a major challenge to realize efficient and thermally stable broadband NIR luminescence in these materials. Herein, we report a novel strategy to achieve broadband NIR luminescence by utilizing the transitions from the lowest 1T2 level of Mo4+ to the components of its 3T1 ground state in the soft Cs2Zr(Cl,Br)6 lattice. The multiple transitions, each occurring within the (4d2) t22 crystal-field configuration and containing zero-phonon and vibronic contributions, superimpose on each other to generate the broadband NIR emission. The emission spectrum encompasses the long wavelength region from 800 to 1400 nm centered at 970 nm with a full width at half-maximum of 170 nm. More importantly, the title NIR phosphor shows an exceptional quantum efficiency (66.9%) and thermal stability (67%@150 °C). The as-fabricated NIR phosphor-converted light-emitting diode shows great potential as an NIR lighting source. This research opens a new horizon for realizing high-performance broadband NIR luminescence by exploiting multiple electronic transitions of activators in the soft lattice.

The development of ultrasensitive thermometric phosphors has become an active area of research due to their appealing applications in the contactless temperature detection field. Herein, the scheelite-related compounds—CaGd 2 (WO 4 ) 4 : Nd 3+ , Yb 3+ and CaGd 2 (MoO 4 ) 4 : Nd 3+ , Yb 3+ , which exhibit high sensing capacity—are successfully prepared and systematically characterized. The X-ray diffraction analysis reveals that CaGd 2 (WO 4 ) 4 : Nd 3+ , Yb 3+ exhibits the monoclinic structure, whereas CaGd 2 (MoO 4 ) 4 : Nd 3+ , Yb 3+ is in the tetragonal phase. The maximum phonon cut-off energy of CaGd 2 (WO 4 ) 4 : Nd 3+ , Yb 3+ is 929 cm −1 , slightly larger than that of CaGd 2 (MoO 4 ) 4 : Nd 3+ , Yb 3+ (904 cm −1 ). Irradiated by 980 nm laser, PL spectra consist of the Nd 3+ : 4 F j → 4 I 9/2 (j = 7/2, 5/2, 3/2) and Yb 3+ : 2 F 5/2 → 2 F 7/2 emissions located in the near-infrared (NIR) range. Negative and positive thermal quenching behaviors are observed for the emissions of Nd 3+ (754, 802, and 868 nm) and Yb 3+ (1008 nm), respectively, attributed to the cooperative effects of the phonon-assisted energy transfer process of Yb 3+ → Nd 3+ and excited state absorption process of Nd 3+ . Moreover, the host material can affect the luminescence properties, thermal enhancement factor of the NIR anti-Stokes emission, and thermal sensing performance of the Nd 3+ -Yb 3+ pair. Consequently, CaGd 2 (MoO 4 ) 4 : Nd 3+ , Yb 3+ exhibits higher sensing sensitivity (S r-max = ∼6.00%K −1 ) than CaGd 2 (WO 4 ) 4 : Nd 3+ , Yb 3+ (S r-max = ∼5.56%K −1 ). This study provides useful information for the construction of high-performance ratiometric thermometers based on the inverse thermal dependence of the NIR emissions of Nd 3+ and Yb 3+ ions.

Lead-free halide double perovskites (LFHDPs) have gained prominence as eco-friendly optoelectronic materials due to their structural stability and flexible tunability. Lanthanide (Ln 3+ ) ions have rich energy levels, which can endow LFHDP materials with emissions ranging from visible to near-infrared (NIR) region through the ion doping strategy. However, their NIR applications remain limited by narrowband emission and low photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) due to weak absorption cross-section. Herein, Cs 2 NaInCl 6 :Ln 3+ were successfully synthesized, and the problem of low absorption of Ln 3+ ions is effectively solved. Incorporating Mo 4+ /Ag + ions achieves a near-unity PLQY and expands the excitation spectrum across the full visible range and a small part of NIR region (250–850 nm). Mechanism analysis revealed synergistic energy transfer pathways involving self-trapping excitons and intermediate energy states of Mo 4+ ion, enhancing both photon absorption and PLQY. The universal applicability of this approach has been validated across Bi-based and multiple lanthanide ions (Ln: Ho, Er, Tm, Yb). These optimized materials demonstrate exceptional broadband emission characteristics suitable for multi-scenario NIR applications, including light-emitting-diodes (LEDs), night vision, imaging, anti-counterfeiting technologies. This co-doping methodology establishes a versatile framework for overcoming inherent limitations in Ln 3+ -activated materials, offering new possibilities for efficient NIR optoelectronic devices.
