To support smart grid technologies and mitigate the intermittency of renewable energy sources, efficient electrochemical energy storage is essential. Despite their inherent advantages, supercapacitors are constrained by insufficient energy density, limiting their practical deployment. To address this challenge, we report a hierarchical CoMoO 4 @NiMn-LDH core-shell heterostructure grown directly on nickel foam (NF) via a two-step hydrothermal method. The integration of a highly active NiMn-LDH nanosheet shell onto the CoMoO 4 nanorod core synergistically enhances electron transport and ion diffusion. Morphological characterization confirms the formation of a well-integrated porous structure comprising vertically oriented NiMn-LDH nanosheets encapsulating uniformly distributed CoMoO 4 nanorods. The synergistic interplay of structure and composition yields a CoMoO 4 @NiMn-LDH/NF electrode with a high areal capacitance of 17,869.6 mF cm −2 at 2 mA cm −2 , surpassing that of the corresponding single-component electrodes. Moreover, the electrode retains 79.74% of its capacitance at 10 mA cm −2 , demonstrating exceptional rate capability, and maintains 99.98% of its initial capacitance after 8000 charge–discharge cycles, indicating excellent structural stability. Kinetic analysis reveals a hybrid charge storage mechanism in which the capacitive contribution progressively increases at higher scan rates, facilitating rapid charge–discharge processes. An asymmetric supercapacitor assembled with this composite as the positive electrode and activated carbon as the negative electrode delivers an areal capacitance of 2593.25 mF cm −2 and a maximum energy density of 0.922 mWh cm −2 at a power density of 1.6 mW cm −2 . Overall, this study presents a versatile core–shell heterostructure design strategy for developing high-energy, high-power supercapacitor electrodes.

This work addresses the critical challenges of expensive noble-metal catalysts and inferior conductivity of transition metal hydroxides in water electrolysis by developing in-situ grown NiMn layered double hydroxide (NiMn LDH/NF) self-supported electrodes through one-step electrodeposition on nickel foam. The engineered 2D porous nanosheet architecture delivers abundant active sites, achieving exceptional hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) performance with 17 mV overpotential at 10 mA cm-2. Furthermore, cerium doping strategy effectively regulates nucleation kinetics through Ce3+/Ce4+ redox couples, constructing flower-like hierarchical Ce-NiMn LDH/NF architecture. The optimized electronic structure and enhanced surface hydroxylation significantly boost oxygen evolution reaction (OER) kinetics, requiring merely 212 mV overpotential to deliver the current density of 50 mA cm-2. The NiMn LDH/NF||Ce-NiMn LDH/NF electrolytic system demonstrates exceptional performance for overall water splitting, achieving an ultralow cell voltage of 1.44 V at 10 mA cm-2. Remarkably, it retains 97.66 % of its initial activity after 100 h of continuous operation, underscoring the efficacy of the rare-earth cation-doped structural engineering strategy. This approach enables the rational design of high-performance, durable, and cost-effective electrocatalytic systems by synergistically optimizing electronic configurations, active site accessibility, and long-term stability.

Graphical Hierarchical NiMn-LDH@MWCNT composites , which are composed of NiMn-LDH nanosheets growing directly on MWCNT, have been synthesized in situ via one-step hydrothermal method. The composites possess excellent specific capacitive and rate performance, in which the electrochemical process is controlled by diffusion. The assembled NiMn-LDH-4//AC device exhibits the energy density of 51.5 Wh kg −1 at the power density of 455.7 W kg −1 and 83.9 % capacitance retention after 5000 cycles. As an electrochemical energy storage material, transition metal layered double hydroxides (MLDHs) have attracted attention due to tunable two-dimensional structure and low cost. In this study, NiMn-LDH@MWCNT composites with hierarchical structure have been successfully synthesized with simple and economical one-step hydrothermal method. The hierarchical structure of composites was formed by NiMn-LDH nanosheets growing directly on multiwall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs). This design not only can maintain excellent network conductive channels, but also increase active sites, enlarge specific surface area, and reduce internal resistance. Our results show that the NiMn-LDH-4 composite exhibits an excellent electrochemical performance with an ultrahigh specific capacitance of 1863 F g −1 at a current density of 1 A g −1 and 1164 F g −1 when the current density goes up 10 times. This may be attributed to the synergy effect of the hierarchical structure and introduction MWCNT. Moreover, the assembled NiMn-LDH-4//AC device can provide a relatively high specific energy density of 51.5 Wh kg −1 at a high energy density of 455.7 W kg −1 and possess great cycling stability (83.9 % capacitance retention after 5000 cycles).

Rechargeable zinc–air (Zn–air) batteries having high theoretical energy density are the most attractive energy technologies for future electric vehicles and flexible/wearable electronics. However, the serious lack of highly efficient and cost-effective oxygen electrocatalysts is one of the major obstacles for their future commercialization. Herein, we presented a core/shell design based on porous NiCo2O4 nanowires and ultrathin NiMn LDH nanosheets as an efficient method for the synthesis of electrocatalysts for rechargeable Zn–air batteries. Due to the large active surface area, rapid mass/charge transport, and high electron conductivity as well as unique structures, the core/shell NiCo2O4@NiMn LDH materials could deliver a rather low OER overpotential of 255 mV at 10.0 mA cm−2 while maintaining good stability in alkaline media. When these materials were further employed as air-cathode materials for Zn–air batteries, they exhibited an ultrahigh energy density (866 W h kg−1), superior reversibility (initial round-trip efficiency of 63.5%) and excellent stability (voltage gap increased by only about 20 mV after 500 cycles), which were much better than those of commercial Ir/C catalyst. Furthermore, the as-prepared flexible solid Zn–air battery also displayed very good mechanical properties, long cycle life and outstanding round-trip efficiency (70–74%).

Transition-metal oxides (TMOs) exhibit exceptional potential as candidate materials in supercapacitor applications. Nevertheless, their actual performance falls far short of expectations due to challenges such as poor electronic conductivity, insufficient electrochemical durability, and the scarcity of active sites within TMOs. Herein, we successfully synthesized a NiMoO4 nanorod@NiMn-LDH nanosheet core–shell structure onto nickel foam (NiMoO4@NiMn-LDH/NF) via a straightforward two-step hydrothermal process, achieving complementary enhancement in performance. The core–shell architecture effectively shortens ion transport pathways and exposes abundant active sites, which establish a vital basis for boosting the energy storage efficiency of devices. Additionally, the notable synergistic effect among transition-metal ions further boosts the electrochemical performance. Consequently, the NiMoO4@NiMn-LDH/NF electrode exhibits an impressive areal capacitance of 9438.4 mF cm−2 under 2 mA cm–2. Moreover, it features pre-eminent rate capability and preserves 99.9% of its capacitance over 6000 cycles. Significantly, the constructed NiMoO4@NiMn-LDH/NF//activated carbon configuration achieves a 1.2 mW h cm–2 high energy density under a 3.2 mW cm–2 power density, sustaining 95% superior capacitance retention over 7000 cycles. Our research demonstrates that the NiMoO4@NiMn-LDH core–shell nanocomposite offers an excellent and feasible strategy for the energy storage field.

The development of low-cost and high-efficiency electrocatalysts for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is essential to produce high-purity hydrogen in large scale. Herein, a three-dimensional (3D) seaweed-like hierarchical structure was fabricated using two-dimensional (2D) NiMn LDH nanosheets wrapped on one-dimensional (1D) NiSe nanowires with nickel foam (NF) as a substrate (NiSe@NiMn LDH/NF) via hydrothermal and electrodeposition processes. Owing to the strong interfacial synergy, 3D seaweed-like hierarchical structure, higher conductivity, and strong structural stability, the NiSe@NiMn LDH/NF exhibited superior OER performance with an overpotential of 287 mV at 100 mA cm −2 , and stably operated for 160 h at large current. Moreover, the overall water splitting system with NiSe@NiMn LDH/NF as the anode and Pt/C/NF as the cathode exhibited a low cell voltage of 1.59/1.64 V to reach 50/100 mA cm −2 , and excellent stability for 110 h at 300 mA cm −2 . The density function theory (DFT) calculations unveiled that NiSe@NiMn LDH enabled the interfacial synergy, reallocating the electron density at the interface, and further weakening the energy barrier of OH* by strengthening chemical bonds with OH* intermediates to improve the intrinsic OER activity.

The design and catalytic potential of materials with simultaneously oxidation and reduction performance remains underexplored, particularly in three-dimensional electrochemical systems. This study developed a carbon nanosheet framework with iron insertion and nitrogen doping, as the skeleton for the deposition of. nickel‑manganese metal mixture. Advanced characterization confirmed that the addition of Fe/C-N skeleton can improve morphology and specific surface, which in turn enhances electronic conductivity and degradation efficiency. Electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) and density functional theory (DFT) calculations certify that the Fe/C-N skeleton can enhance the electron supply capacity and thereby accelerate the generation and stabilization of •H and •OH species during the reaction. Under optimal conditions, the system achieved a maximum Chloracetamide (MCAcAm) degradation rate of 68.86 % and good stability. Moreover, in practical tests using industrial wastewater pre-treated with chlorination, the composite showed exceptional efficiency, achieving 86.14 % chemical oxygen demand (COD) and 74.01 % total organic carbon (TOC) removal within 1 h. These results highlight the potential of NiMn-LDH/MnO 2 -Fe/C-N (Name it NML-Fe/C-N) for practical wastewater treatment and provide valuable insights into the design of advanced electrode materials and the mechanisms of electrocatalytic degradation.
