Lead zirconate titanate (PZT) based piezoelectric ceramics are applied in ultrasonic transducers and multilayer actuators fields universally. Excellent piezoelectric properties of PZT-based ceramics of low sintering temperature are crucial for the applications of high-power motors and multilayer piezo-actuators due to the reduction of cost and energy consumption. In this paper, a ternary solid-solution ceramic system 0.05Pb(Mn 1/3 Sb 2/3 )O 3 -0.47PbZrO 3 -0.48PbTiO 3 (PMS-PZT) was studied. A new complex additive composed of SiO 2 -Li 2 O 3 -CuO was doped into the PMS-PZT ceramics. The doping of CuO and Li 2 O 3 was discovered to be able to lower the sintering temperature and remain electric properties efficiently, while the doping of SiO 2 can decrease the grain size and increase the density. All ceramic samples were fabricated by solid-phase reaction method and sintered in the low temperature range from 800 °C to 1000 °C. The phase structure, morphology of natural surface and electrical properties of ceramics doped by 0.5 wt% additive were characterized. The 0.5 wt% additive doped PMS-PZT ceramics exhibit remarkable comprehensive piezoelectric properties sintered at 900 °C ( d 33 = 343 pC/N, Q m = 1016, T c = 328 °C, tan δ = 0.4 % (at 25 °C), ε r = 1344, d 33 * = 490 pm/V). The sintering temperature 900 °C is significantly below the melting point of Ag (961.9 °C) and Cu (1083.4 °C), so the more cost-effective Cu internal electrodes and Ag rich Ag/Pd electrodes can be used to substitute the expensive Pd rich Ag/Pd internal electrodes in the production of devices composed of multilayer ceramic. The research of this work provides an important candidate additive for the applications of high-performance transducers and multilayer actuators with low cost.

A series of novel MIL-53(Fe)/CoWO 4 composites were synthesized by combining MIL-53(Fe) and CoWO 4 nanoparticles via solvothermal method. The structural characterizations showed that CoWO 4 nanoparticles were uniformly distributed on the surface of hexagonal bipyramid MIL-53(Fe). Combining XPS and Mott-Schottky plots, a Z-scheme heterojunction was formed between MIL-53(Fe) and CoWO 4 , resulting in a significant improvement in the electron-hole pair separation efficiency. UV–vis diffused reflectance spectra indicated that the optical arrange of MIL-53(Fe)/CoWO 4 composites were expanded to visible light. The photocatalytic degradation experiments under visible light irradiation showed that MIL/CWO-60 synergistically with PMS degraded 90.5 % of TC-HCl within 50 min. The XRD spectra of used and unused composites were identical, indicating good stability in four consecutive cycles. Electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) and free radicals trapping experiment revealed that active species included O 2− , SO 4 − , h + , OH and 1 O 2 , and mechanism of the synergistic degradation of TC-HCl by MIL-53(Fe)/CoWO 4 composites and PMS was proposed.

Peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activation is an intriguing technology for refractory organic pollutant removal in wastewater treatment. Herein, a highly dispersed Mn-Ce bimetallic oxide on carbon nanotubes (MCC) was synthesized and applied to catalyze PMS for the degradation of phenol. The material was well characterized using a transmission electron microscope (TEM), N2adsorption–desorption isotherms, X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The synthesized MCC showed superior activity for PMS activation. Thekvalue of phenol removal with MCC is 0.135 min−1, which is greatly superior to that of CNT (6.17 × 10−5min−1) and Mn-Ce bimetallic oxide (3.18 × 10−4min−1). Electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR), along with radical quenching experiments, revealed that the activation of PMS by MCC for phenol degradation involves both radical and non-radical reaction pathways. Moreover, a synergic effect between Mn-Ce bimetallic oxide and CNT was identified to be responsible for the outstanding catalytic activity. Keywords:PMS activation;Mn-Ce bimetallic oxide;CNT;synergic effect

In order to further expand the practical applicability of nano photo-activators, a low-toxicity bismuth ferrite mixture (BFO) combined with MnO 2 were used to construct nano-catalyst@nickel foam (NF) composite material. A variety of characterization methods were applied to determine the physical, chemical and photoelectrochemical properties of BFO/MnO 2 @NF. Subsequently, the performance of BFO/MnO 2 @NF/PMS/Light degradation system was evaluated through the enrofloxacin (ENR) removal experiment. And 87.5% of ENR could achieve removal with 4 cm 2 of BFO/MnO 2 (3:1)@NF and 0.6 g L −1 of peroxymonosulfate (PMS) at the pH of 6.86 in the coupled system. In addition, during the ENR degradation process, the leaching percentages of Bi, Fe, and Mn ions in the BFO/MnO 2 nano powder and BFO/MnO 2 @ NF were 0.041%, 0.29%, 0.12% and 0.035%, 0.068%, 0.084% (0.035% of Ni dissolution), respectively. It could be seen that the leaching concentration of metal ions during the reaction of the nickel foam-supported composite material was much lower than that of the corresponding nano-catalysts powder. Furthermore, the coupled system maintained excellent catalytic performance even after 8 running cycles. Thus, the BFO/MnO 2 @NF was easy to recover from the system and met the needs of practical applications, which would provide more opportunities for the design of nano-catalysts and practical applications in wastewater treatment processes.

A collaborative system including peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activation in a photocatalytic fuel cell (PFC) with an BiOI/TiO 2 nanotube arrays p-n type heterojunction as photoanode under visible light (PFC(BiOI/TNA)/PMS/vis system) was established. Xenon lamp was used as the light source of visible light. A 4.6 times higher pseudo-first-order bezafibrate (BZF) degradation rate constant was achieved in this system compared with the single PFC(BiOI/TNA)/vis system. The radical quenching experiments revealed that the contribution of reactive oxidative species (ROS) followed the order of 1 O 2 ≈ h + >> •OH > SO 4 •− >>O 2 •− . The EPR tests demonstrated that PMS addition enlarged the formation of 1 O 2 , •OH and SO 4 •− , but suppressed O 2 •− yield. Interestingly, 1 O 2 was further proved to dominantly originated from the priority reaction between positive photoinduced holes ( h + ) and negatively charged PMS. Besides, N 2 -purging tests and density functional theory calculation indicated that PMS probably reacted with residual photoinduced electron ( e − ) on the more negative conduction band (CB) of BiOI to form •OH and SO 4 •− , but competed with dissolved oxygen. Other e − transferred to the less negative CB of TNA through p-n junction will efficiently move to cathode through the external circuit. The greatly promoted power generation of PFC system was observed after PMS addition due to extra h + consumption and efficient e − separation and transfer. Besides, three possible pathways for BZF degradation were proposed including hydroxylation, fibrate chain substituent and amino bond fracture. This study can provide new insights into the mechanisms of PMS assisted photocatalysis and accompanying energy recovery.

The photocatalysis-assisted peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activation process has shown great potential for organic wastewater treatment. Herein, the composite photocatalyst (FeTAPc/PDI/CN) was obtained by grafting graphitic carbon nitride (CN) and amino iron phthalocyanine (FeTAPc) onto both ends of perylene tetracarboxylic anhydride (PTCDA) through an imidization process. Under simulated solar irradiation, the catalyst exhibited a remarkable degradation performance toward the target pollutant by activated PMS over a wide pH range from 3 to 11. The degradation efficiency of SMX reached 100 % in 7 min with the reaction kinetic constant of 0.845 min −1 , which was 13 times higher than that of pure CN. In addition, the removal rate of FeTAPc/PDI/CN-4 for SMX was more than 80 % after 9 cycles. The introduction of phthalocyanine and PDI improved the separation efficiency of photogenerated electron-hole pairs. Furthermore, the active species involved in the SMX degradation were identified as •OH, SO 4 • - , •O 2 – and 1 O 2 . The possible degradation pathways were proposed based on the identified intermediates, in which the oxidation of the amino group on the benzene ring was the main degradation pathway. This study is anticipated to result in a favorable method for designing CN-based photocatalysts with high stability and excellent catalytic activity for environmental remediation.

In this study, we used the hydrothermal method and high-temperature calcination method to attach CuFe 2 O 4 to CuO for the first time. The (1 1 1) plane of CuO and (1 1 2) plane of CuFe 2 O 4 formed surface heterojunction, which acts as the interface for adsorbing PMS. Meanwhile, the most stable form of CuFe 2 O 4 /CuO, charge transfer and charge density in CuFe 2 O 4 /CuO/PMS system are proposed by combining density functional theory (DFT) and transmission electron microscope (TEM). The experimental data from electron spin resonance (ESR) determinations and active species capture demonstrated that both nonradical singlet oxygen ( 1 O 2 ) and active radicals (•OH, •SO 4 - ) participate in CIP degradation. The degradation pathways and the intermediates are proposed by Fukui index and liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS). Based on the T.E.S.T program (Toxicity Calculation Software), the bioaccumulation factor, acute toxicity, mutagenicity, and development toxicity of intermediates are proposed. Also, CuFe 2 O 4 /CuO demonstrated good reusability and stability. The findings within this work offered deep insights into the mechanisms of organic pollutants degradation via SR-AOP over Fe-Cu catalyst. Besides, verification of the experimental results indicated that the CIP removal of 86.67% and the mineralization efficiency of 47.17% under optimal conditions. Finally, chemical oxygen demand (COD) and fluorescence spectra in a three-dimensional excitation-emission matrix (3D EEMs) are used to characterize the potential performance of catalyst CuFe 2 O 4 /CuO-500 in medical wastewater.

Peroxymonosulfate (PMS)-based advanced oxidation process are widely used in the degradation of organic pollutants . The degradation of the electron-rich azo dye Acid Orange 7 (AO7) through a PMS/CuO heterogeneous system in borate and phosphate buffer were systematically investigated. The CuO was characterized via X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, fourier-transform infrared spectra, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and energy dispersive spectroscopy (SEM-EDS) techniques. The difference of AO7 degradation by PMS/CuO system in borate and phosphate buffer varied with the buffer concentration, PMS concentration, CuO dosage and pH. AO7 degradation fitted well with the pseudo-first order kinetics in these two buffer solutions , the reaction rate constant ( k obs ) of AO7 degradation in phosphate buffer increased with the increase of phosphate concentration firstly and then reached the maximum value of 0.0123 min −1 at 0.2 M, but it decreased obviously with the increase of borate concentration. It was found that the k obs in two buffers increased linearly with the increase of PMS concentration, and increased with the increase of CuO dosage in borate, while the reaction in phosphate buffer was slightly affected by CuO dosage. Additionally, the k obs increased from 0.0057 min −1 to 0.0487 min −1 with the increase of pH value in phosphate, but decreased gradually with the increase of pH value from 7.0 to 8.5 in borate due to the deprotonation of PMS. Fewer reactive species were produced in phosphate including SO 4 •– , •OH and 1 O 2 . The conversion between Cu(Ⅱ) and Cu(Ⅰ) was a crucial process for the activation of PMS by CuO in borate, which was hindered in phosphate. This study will provide a reference for the application of different types of buffers in heterogeneous catalysis of PMS.

Reactive oxygen species (ROS) mediated tumor therapeutic strategies have been extensively studied. However, its effectiveness in eliminating tumor cells is inevitably restricted by the hypoxia or the insufficient hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 ) content. To fundamentally address these challenges, an O 2 -independent and stimuli-responsive nanosystem (named CuS@PMS) is ingeniously constructed by loading peroxymonosulfate (PMS: HSO 5 − ) into hollow mesoporous copper sulfide (CuS) to mediate the generation of sulfate radicals (SO 4 − ). The CuS@PMS was then introduced into polycaprolactone (PCL) to prepare into breast meshes by selective laser sintering. Specifically, the released Cu 2+ ions combining with the photothermal property of CuS synergistically activate PMS, ensuring the cascade amplification of SO 4 − . Unlike conventional ROS, the production of SO 4 − independent on the content of O 2 and H 2 O 2 in the tumor microenvironment, characterizing a longer half-life and faster reaction rate, thereby possessing more advantages in antitumor. The results showed that the SO 4 − yield of PCL/CuS@PMS group significantly higher than that of PCL/PMS group, especially under near-infrared (NIR) light. Moreover, the antitumor efficiency of PCL/CuS@PMS + NIR group was 43 % higher than that of PCL/PMS group in an O 2 -independent manner. The study provided a more efficient, highly adaptable and versatile approach for tumor treatment.

Cobalt ferrite (CoFe 2 O 4 ) has been widely employed as a catalyst for the activation of peroxymonosulfate (PMS), in which hydroxyl radicals ( • OH) and sulfate radicals (SO 4 •− ) are generally recognized as the main reactive species responsible for the degradation of pollutants. In this study, we find that both one-electron transfer and oxygen-atom transfer reactions are involved in the CoFe 2 O 4 /PMS process, by using methyl phenyl sulfoxide (MPSO) as a chemical probe. Results from radical quenching and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) experiments indicate that the free radicals (i.e., • OH and SO 4 •− ) play only a minor role in the degradation of sulfamethoxazole (SMX). A mechanism involving Co(II)-PMS complex both on the surface of CoFe 2 O 4 and in solution as the dominant reactive species is proposed. Furthermore, the degradation performance of SMX under different conditions were investigated to further cognize the Co(II)-PMS complex-mediated oxidation process. This study broadens our understanding of the role of transition metal-based catalysts in the activation of PMS for the degradation of organic pollutants.

FeNi binary metal alloy anchored foam carbon composite electrode was successfully constructed by electrodeposition self-assembly strategy (FeNi@CF). FeNi with heterogeneous structure serves as a charge transfer bridge, promoting charge separation. The degradation efficiency of TMP within 20 min was 98.15 % (k = 0.1935 min −1 ). The contribution of active components to TMP degradation follows the order of SO 4 − · (63.22 %)>·OH (39.55 %)>·O 2 – (9.33 %)> 1 O 2 (5.27 %), which is consistent with the proposed charge separation mechanism. DFT calculations show that the introduction of FeNi alloy can disrupt the sp2 hybrid structure of carbon in graphite electrodes, resulting in the formation of nucleophilic and electrophilic atomic centers on their surfaces, reducing the steric hindrance of PMS adsorption (E ads = −3.28 eV), enhancing the adsorption strength of PMS, increasing the area of active centers, and improving the activation efficiency of PMS. The free radical quenching and intermediate identification experiments further confirmed the mechanism and pathway of TMP degradation. In addition, FeNi@CF has good repeatability and stability, making it suitable for treating pollutants in various water matrices. This work is expected to provide ideas for risk assessment of various toxic and persistent organic pollutants in drinking water and wastewater.

As the most promising techniques for refractory antibiotic degradation in wastewater management, sulfate radical-based advanced oxidation processes (SR-AOPs) have attracted considerable attention. However, systematic studies on potassium peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activation by MOF-derived metal oxides coated with LDH materials are still lacking. In this work, a series of catalysts consisting of CoCu-MOFs coated with CuAl/LDH were synthesized for PMS activation in the removal of sulfamethoxazole (SMX). As expected, CoCu-MOFs coated with CuAl/LDH catalyst showed high SMX removal and stability in PMS activation. In the CoCu/LDH/PMS reaction, the SMX removal was nearly 100% after 60 min, and the mineralization reached 53.7%. The catalyst showed excellent catalytic stability and low metal leaching concentrations (Co: 0.013 mg/L, Cu: 0.313 mg/L), as detected by ICP. Sulfate radicals and hydroxyl radicals were identified as the dominant reactive species in the CoCu/LDH/PMS system. Moreover, the presence of 1 O 2 in the process revealed the coupling of non-radical and radical processes. The XPS results showed that the layered structure of CoCu/LDH promoted the recycling of metal ions (high and low valence), which facilitated heterogeneous PMS activation. The effects of different reaction conditions and reuse cycles were also determined. The SMX oxidation pathways were proposed based on the intermediates identified by LC/MS. The high activity and stability of CoCu/LDH provide a new mechanistic understanding of PMS activation catalysts and their potential utilization in practical wastewater treatment.
