In this study, recycled poly(vinyl butyral) (r-PVB) and maleic anhydride grafted poly(ethylene-octene) (POE-g-MA) were employed to synergistically toughen polypropylene (PP) via one-step reactive melt blending. Results revealed that hydroxyl groups of r-PVB reacted with anhydride groups of POE-g-MA at the interface, generating in situ compatibilizers and significantly improving interfacial adhesion. Although thermodynamic predictions suggested that POE-g-MA should encapsulate r-PVB, the actual morphology was dominated by viscosity-driven kinetics, leading to the formation of a unique core-shell structure with r-PVB as the shell and POE-g-MA as the core. This morphology effectively promoted energy dissipation, enabling the PP/r-PVB/POE-g-MA (70/10/20) blend to achieve a notched impact strength of 78.0 kJ/m 2 , which is 16.6 times higher than that of neat PP, thus realizing super-toughening. This work not only provides a new pathway for value-added recycling of r-PVB but also reveals a kinetic-dominated mechanism of phase morphology in reactive multicomponent blends.
Converting the UV-blue irradiation into longer wavelength can efficiently ameliorate the insufficient solar spectral response and enhance the power conversion efficiency (PCE) of silicon solar cells , whereas there is still no appropriate strategy to make the corresponding luminescence downshifting materials compatible with commercial silicon photovoltaic modules practically. Herein, we first demonstrate an in-situ fabricated CsPbBr 3 PQDs/POE encapsulation adhesive film , which can simultaneously achieve continuously large-scale manufacture through melt extrusion and possess well compatibility with the encapsulation technique of silicon photovoltaic modules . According to the separate granulation preparation and technical optimization, the composited adhesive film exhibits an intensive PL emission at 515 nm with a full width at a half-maximum of 20 nm and an ultra high PLQY of 98.2%. Moreover, less than 5% PL intensity decline even after keeping in 50 °C/90 RH aging condition for >2400 h proves its excellent working stability and barrier property. By means of hot pressing operation, the silicon solar cells encapsulated with CsPbBr 3 PQDs/POE adhesive film harvest an absolute PCE enhancement of 0.68%. This work provides a way of great potential towards further improving the silicon photovoltaic industry and corresponding optoelectronic applications .
Achieving optimal fiber impregnation and robust interfacial adhesion is critical for long glass fiber-reinforced polyamide 6 (LGF-PA6) composites. In this study, a high-flow branched PA6 resin was synthesized to enhance impregnation efficiency. A multi-scale interfacial architecture was subsequently engineered using APTES-functionalized fibers and POE-g-MAH compatibilizer. Investigations revealed that loading POE-g-MAH established a robust organic–inorganic interface via covalent and hydrogen bonds dual-mode bonding. Nanomechanical mapping confirmed the formation of a gradient interfacial transition zone of 449 nm, which effectively induced crystallization and refined the crystalline morphology. Consequently, the 30 wt% LGF-PA6 composites achieved peak performance, featuring a tensile strength of 185 MPa and exceptional impact resistance at −40°C, alongside enhanced surface scratch resistance. These findings demonstrate that precise multi-scale interfacial tuning, spanning molecular-level bonding, interphase nanomechanics, and crystalline architecture, represents a pivotal strategy for the design of advanced structural composites targeting lightweight engineering applications. Highlights A high-flow PA6 was developed for efficient impregnation of glass fibers. Multi-scale regulation affects H-bonding, crystallinity, and mechanics. LGF-PA6 shows high strength, impact, and scratch resistance and low fiber float. Structure–interface–property link established across molecular to macro scales.
