Pt@CeO 2 /MCM-56 (PCM) and CeO 2 -CuO (9:1)/MCM-56 (CCM) were combined to purify the exhaust emissions from diesel vehicles in three configuration statuses, defined as configuration A—where CCM stays above PCM, configuration B—where PCM stays above CCM, and configuration C—where CCM mixes with PCM homogeneously in loose contact. Among these combined catalysts, the configuration A is most favorable for the selective catalytic reduction (SCR) reaction, with >80% NO x conversion obtained at the temperature range of 150–550 °C and gas hourly space velocity (GHSV) of 240,000 ml g −1 h −1 . NH 3 -TPD, H 2- TPR and NH 3 conversion measurements demonstrated that NH 3 can be selectively used to reduce NO x in the configuration A but is over-oxidized if the reaction is operated in configuration B or configuration C status, deteriorating the deNO x activity at temperature above 250 °C. Hence, configuration A not only takes advantage but also overcomes the shortcomings of PCM and CCM, leading to high NO x conversion and N 2 selectivity. A significant decrease in the onset temperature of soot combustion was also observed in this research.

Metal support interactions modulation is one of the effective strategies to enhance the catalytic performance. Herein, we reported that modulating metal support interactions by switching the strength (CO, H 2 , NH 3 ) and temperature (200, 300, 400 °C) of reducing gases is a facile way to improve the catalytic performance of Pt/CeO 2 for toluene oxidation . The distinct reduction treatments will stepwise enhance the reducibility, ratio of Pt 0 and oxygen vacancy concentration, which dominated the activity. The metal support interactions modulation can significantly affect toluene deep oxidation (from benzoate to formate or monodentate carbonate) via enhancing the mobility of surface/lattice oxygen and activation ability towards O 2 molecules, since the main activation sites for O 2 molecules expand from Pt 0 sites to oxygen vacancies and Pt 0 sites with temperature increasing.

Herein, a biosensing system was designed based on tripedal DNAzyme walker integrated nanoprobe signal amplification strategy for realizing ultrasensitive determination of the microRNA-21. In this work, the two-dimensional MoSe 2 /MXene nanocomposite with high electronic conductivity was synthesized as electrode signal amplification materials to immobilize more capture DNA and accelerate electron transport. After adding microRNA-21, the tripedal DNAzyme walker was activated on the surface of the Pt@CeO 2 nanoclusters, which were as nanozyme to construct the high-performance nanoprobe machine. Then, the tripedal DNAzyme strands could cleave the substrate strands and walk onto the nanoprobe for amplifying the signal remarkably. Furthermore, the detectability of the electrochemical biosensor was verified by DPV, acquiring a wide linear response in a range of 0.1 fM to 1 nM, as well as the limit of detection was 0.04 fM. Hence, such double signal amplified strategy could not only provide excellent selectivity and specificity, but also achieve superior repeatability and stability in real complex serum samples. Therefore, the designed biosensing platform detected different microRNA through modulating the recognition sequence, which might provide a general strategy for various cancer analyses and have a promising potential for clinical application.

A series of Pt/CeO 2 compounds with hollow spheres (Pt/CeO 2 –S), wires (Pt/CeO 2 –W), and particle (Pt/CeO 2 –P) morphologies were prepared and further used for catalytic liquid organic hydrogen carrier (LOHC) dehydrogenation. The exposure and distribution of different crystal faces affected the nucleation process of crystals and then formed different microscopic morphologies. Compared with Pt/CeO 2 –W and Pt/CeO 2 –P, Pt/CeO 2 –S showed hollow spherical structures with significantly higher oxygen vacancy concentrations and specific surface areas. These structural differences not only affected platinum (Pt) dispersion, but also affected the activity and stability of the catalyst, thus promoting methylcyclohexane (MCH) conversion. The fixed bed reaction showed that Pt/CeO 2 –S had excellent catalytic activity, with the MCH conversion rate at 97.7 % and hydrogen release rate of 350.50 mmol/g (Pt) /min, and it still maintained stable activity after 72 h. Under the same conditions, the MCH conversion rates for Pt/CeO 2 –W and Pt/CeO 2 –P were only 77.23 % and 32.02 %, respectively. Therefore, through the growth pattern and morphology controls of catalyst supports, this was an effective means for improving the dehydrogenation performance of LOHC.

Pt/CeO2 catalysts with different support shapes and prereduction temperatures were prepared and tested in the liquid-phase hydrogenation of nitrobenzene. Detailed characterizations reveal that the support shape effect of Pt/CeO2 catalysts on nitrobenzene hydrogenation originates from the exposed crystal planes on CeO2 with different reducibilities. A high-energy surface is readily reduced to generate more Ce3+ surface sites and oxygen vacancies, not only favoring the dispersion and stabilization of Pt species due to stronger metal–support interaction but also providing more adsorption sites for reactants and intermediates. Reduction treatment at high temperatures has been proved to be an effective way to improve the performance of Pt/CeO2 catalysts by providing additional Ce3+ surface sites and high H-spillover capability. The additional Ce3+ far away from Pt, derived from a high-temperature reduction, can adsorb the N-phenylhydroxylamine intermediate more effectively due to its stronger electron-donating ability and in turn promote aniline formation. It is also found that Na ions with suitable content facilitate the generation and stabilization of surface Ce3+ by charge transfer and help Pt particles to maintain a smaller size. Consequently, a 0.25 wt % Pt catalyst, supported on Na-containing CeO2 nanorods and reduced at 600 °C, displays a high level of aniline productivity of 40.8 molAN/gPt/h and excellent stability in nitrobenzene hydrogenation at room temperature. A pathway of nitrobenzene hydrogenation catalyzed by Pt/CeO2 is also proposed.

Nitrogen-doped carbon nanotubes (N-CNTs) prepared by carbonization of polypyrrole nanotubes (PPy-NTs) are used as supports. Pt–CeO 2 /N-CNTs electrocatalysts are successfully prepared by in-situ growth of Pt and CeO 2 nanoparticles (NPs) via a one-step coupling method of co-deposition and ethylene glycol reduction. Through structural characterization and electrochemical tests of the prepared electrocatalysts, the effects of preparation conditions on the structure of the electrocatalysts and their electrocatalytic activity for methanol oxidation were systematically investigated. The results verify that the Pt–CeO 2 /N-CNTs electrocatalysts were prepared using N-CNTs calcined at 700 °C as a support and 15 mM alkali concentration. They have the largest electrochemical active area and methanol oxidation mass activity of 85 m 2 g −1 (Pt) and 722 A g −1 (Pt), respectively. Furthermore, the electrochemical stability and anti-CO poisoning performance of the electrocatalysts are significantly better than those of the commercial Pt/C electrocatalysts. The highly-dispersed Pt and CeO 2 in Pt–CeO 2 /N-CNTs, a large number of N sites, and the synergistic action of Pt, CeO 2 , and N-CNTs result in a catalyst with excellent electrocatalytic activity, stability, and resistance to CO poisoning. The support structure and the dispersion of Pt and CeO 2 can be controlled by changing the preparation conditions, which provides a basis for the industrial application of direct methanol fuel cells.

The interfaces in heterogeneous catalysts play an important role in their performances by either directly providing active sites through the synergistic effects from different catalyst compositions or indirectly modulating the state of active sites. However, constructing abundant interfaces in heterogeneous catalysts is a key scientific challenge since it requires the high dispersion of all catalyst compositions involved in substrate activation. A surface reduction strategy is proposed as the solution for this challenge, which creates a pyramid-type catalyst, (Pt/4nmCeO2)/SiO2, with maximized interfacial Pt–CeO2 sites as an example. Pt is chemically bound in surface reductive centers of 4 nm CeO2 nano-islands, generating stable Pt2+ sites with moderate hydrogenation capacity compared to Pt0 sites on bulk CeO2 and SiO2. This work facilitates the development of heterogeneous catalysts by presenting a high level of controlling the local chemical environment within nanomaterials.

Pt1/CeO2nanospheres (Pt/CeO2-NS) were synthesized by the bath oiling method with L-asparagine as a necessary additive. Owing to the morphology control effect and coordination interaction of L-asparagine, CeO2nanospheres can retain their nanosphere structure and show stronger electronic metal-support interaction with highly dispersed Pt. Moreover, the toluene catalytic combustion performance of Pt/CeO2-NS was investigated. The structure-performance relationship is analyzed according to the coordination state of Pt. The Pt/CeO2-NS catalyst exhibited superior catalytic activity than the commercial CeO2-supported Pt catalyst, which is attributed to its higher oxygen vacancy and Pt4+.

In this work, a selective methane gas sensor was prepared based on In 2 O 3 to eliminate the serious cross-sensitive sensitivity to VOCs, NO 2 , and CO, which are typical interfering gases for methane detection in domestic. The catalytic films of Pt-TiO 2 , Pt-CeO 2 , and Pt-ZrO 2 were placed on the top of the sensing layer, i.e., In 2 O 3 loaded with Pd. Catalytic films were designed as filters to catalytically oxidize the interfering gases, such as VOCs, to prevent them reaching the surface of the sensitive layers. Thanks to this design, our sensors showed a high selectivity to methane, even in the presence of ethanol, CO, and NO 2 . In addition, we confirmed via the power-law response of oxygen that the basic sensing mechanism between Pd-In 2 O 3 and the sensor-printed catalytic films are kept the same. Both follow the general model with MOS sensors, which involves an electron transfer process resulting from the adsorption of oxygen on the surface and interaction with methane molecules. The present study showed that catalytic filter films (Pt-TiO 2 , Pt-CeO 2 , and Pt-ZrO 2 ) printed on Pd-In 2 O 3 sensors could enhance the selective response to methane for methane monitoring.

The efficient and sustainable transformation of biomass-derived furfural into value-added chemicals is a key challenge in green chemistry. In this study, a series of Pt/CeO 2 catalysts with varying Pt loadings (0.1–2.0 wt%) were synthesized via a carbonization–reduction method and applied for the selective conversion of furfural to 2-furfural diethanol in ethanol under mild conditions. Comprehensive characterization using XRD, XPS, EPR, TEM, and Py-FTIR revealed that the 1.0 wt% Pt/CeO 2 catalyst exhibited optimal properties, including high dispersion of metallic Pt⁰, abundant oxygen vacancies, enriched Ce 3+ species, and dominant Lewis acid sites. Catalytic tests demonstrated that under mild conditions (20 °C, 4 MPa N 2 ), the 1.0 wt% Pt/CeO 2 catalyst achieved the highest yield (92.17 %) and furfural conversion (95.41 %). Mechanistic studies suggest a proposed redox-driven tandem hydrogenation–condensation pathway, where the synergistic effect between Pt⁰ sites and oxygen vacancies facilitates furfural activation, hydrogen transfer, and product formation. This work provides a mechanistic understanding of furfural upgrading over Pt/metal oxide interfaces and offers a promising strategy for the rational design of high-performance catalysts for biomass valorization.

Metal–support interactions (MSI) play a crucial role in enhancing the catalytic activity and stability of metal catalysts by establishing a stable metal-oxide interface. However, precisely controlling MSI at the atomic scale remains a significant challenge, as how to construct an optimal MSI is still not fully understood: Both insufficient and excessive MSI showed inferior catalytic performance. In this study, we propose finely tuning MSI using temporal-precise transient high-temperature pulse heating. Using Pt/CeO2 as a model system, we systematically investigate how variations in pulse duration and atmosphere influence the reconstruction of the metal–support interface and MSIs. This leads to the formation of two distinct types of MSI: (1) strong MSI (SMSI, Pt@CeO2) and (2) reactive MSI (RMSI, Pt5Ce@CeO2), each with unique compositions, structures, and electrochemical behaviors. Notably, Pt5Ce@CeO2 with RMSI exhibits remarkable catalytic performance in the alkaline hydrogen evolution, showing an overpotential of −29 mV and stable operation for over 300 h at −10 mA·cm–2. Theoretical studies reveal that alloying Pt with Ce to form Pt5Ce modifies the electronic structure of Pt, shifting the d-band center to optimize the adsorption and dissociation of intermediates, thereby reducing the reaction energy barrier. Moreover, the intimate interaction of Pt5Ce with CeO2 further improves the activity and stability. Our strategy enables precise, stepwise, and controllable regulation of MSIs, providing insights for the development of highly efficient and durable heterostructured catalysts with optimal MSI for a wide range of catalytic applications.

Toluene, dichloromethane, and methanethiol were selected as probe molecules for aromatic, chlorinated, and sulfurated VOCs, respectively, to evaluate the catalytic properties of Pt/CeO 2 composites. The T 90 for toluene, DCM, and methanethiol oxidation were only 153, 265, and 240 °C, when 0.9 wt% Pt/CeO 2 was used as the catalyst. The synergy between Pt and support could be responsible for the high catalytic activity and antipoisoning properties. When combined with NDIR CO 2 sensors, the composite could be used for atmospheric total organic carbon detection. The recorded data almost overlap with that of the theoretical, suggesting the excellent reliability of the dictation system.
