RbCl doping enhances pure-blue emission in mixed-halide perovskite quantum dot glass through crystallization promotion and defect passivation

Jingyi He,Shimin Liu,Shiqing Xu

All-inorganic lead halide perovskite (CsPbX 3 , X = Cl, Br, or I) quantum dots (QDs) glasses have attracted considerable attention due to their excellent stability. However, realizing pure-blue emission CsPbX 3 (X = Br, Cl) QDs glasses with high photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) remains a challenge. This study employs RbCl as a dual-functional dopant to regulate the photoluminescence (PL) wavelength and promote the crystallization of CsPbBr 2 Cl 1 QDs embedded in a glass matrix. During thermal treatment, Cl − ions separated from the glass network enhance CsPbBr 2 Cl 1 QD crystallization by increasing the internal Cl/Br ratio and passivating Cl vacancy defects. Simultaneously, high-field-strength Rb + ions partially enter Cs + sites, further promoting crystallization and suppressing Cl vacancies. The synergistic effect of Cl − and Rb + ions induces PL wavelength from 495 nm to 473 nm, while the PLQY increases from 17% to 25%. Among the RbCl-doped samples, the LED based on 4.5 mol% RbCl exhibits the widest color gamut, covering 79.7% of the Rec. 2020 standard. This study introduces a bifunctional dopant strategy to fabricate high-performance, pure-blue-emitting CsPbBr x Cl 3-x QDs glasses. The developed material shows great potential for advanced applications in LED lighting, backlight displays, information storage, and optical anti-counterfeiting.

Solid–Liquid Phase Equilibrium in the Ternary Systems C6H5B(OH)2 + KCl/RbCl/CsCl + H2O at 298.15 and 348.15 K

Zhuang Ziyu,Zhang Manman,Li Dongdong,Gao Dandan,Feng Haitao

The phase equilibria of ternary systems phenylboronic acid (C 6 H 5 B(OH) 2 ) + KCl/RbCl/CsCl + H 2 O were investigated at 298.15 and 348.15 K using a direct isothermal dissolution equilibrium method with mannitol-NaOH titration. Solid phases were characterized by Schreinemakers’ wet method, XRD, Raman, IR, and TG-DSC. No new adducts were detected, in contrast to the stable adduct 2H 3 BO 3 ·3CsCl formed in the H 3 BO 3 + CsCl + H 2 O system. All three systems are of the simple eutectic type, with two solubility branches and one invariant point. C 6 H 5 B(OH) 2 exerts a weak salting-in effect on the chlorides, independent of temperature. Conversely, the chlorides salt out C 6 H 5 B(OH) 2 following the order CsCl < RbCl < KCl, an effect that increases with temperature. This pattern differs from H 3 BO 3 -alkali chloride systems (salting-in) but resembles H 3 BO 3 -alkaline earth chloride systems (salting-out). The salting-out is attributed to salt-induced reduction of water activity, which disrupts the hydration layer of the solute and promotes its dehydration condensation to triphenyl boroxine. From a crystallographic viewpoint, the layered structure of H 3 BO 3 provides suitable sites for Cs + , whereas the three-dimensional network of C 6 H 5 B(OH) 2 does not. This structural insight suggests that the layered 1,4- and 1,3-benzenediboronic acids may form similar adducts with Cs + , warranting further investigation.

Understanding the Solid Solution–Aqueous Solution Equilibria in the KCl + RbCl + H2O System from Experiments, Atomistic Simulation and Thermodynamic Modeling

Li Dongdong,Gao Dandan,Zeng Dewen,Li Wu

The solid solution–aqueous solution (SSAS) equilibria in the KCl + RbCl + H 2 O system were redetermined at 298.15 K. The experimental data for (K,Rb)Cl were consistent with the formation of a continuous solid solution without miscibility gaps. The Schreinemakers’ wet residues method and an XRD quantitative analysis technique based on the Vegard approach were applied to determine the chemical composition of the solid solution phase of (K,Rb)Cl. The compositions of (K,Rb)Cl derived from the Vegard approach are in accordance with those from the wet residues method. The thermodynamic properties of mixing of the (K,Rb)Cl solid solution were theoretically predicted using atomistic simulations. From these simulations, a regular solution behavior is recognized that is consistent with the knowledge of the thermodynamic properties of mixing of (K,Rb)Cl obtained from SSAS equilibrium studies, but the predicted regular solution model parameter A 0 is significantly larger than that regressed from the SSAS equilibrium data. Finally, a thermodynamic model was developed for representing the SSAS equilibria and element partitioning in the KCl + RbCl + H 2 O system as a function of temperature that can be used for predicting the SSAS equilibria in the studied system over the temperature range 273.15–373.15 K.

Structure of an aqueous RbCl solution in the gigapascal pressure range by neutron diffraction combined with empirical potential structure refinement modeling

W.Q. Zhang,T. Yamaguchi,C.H. Fang,K. Yoshida,Y.Q. Zhou,F.Y Zhu,S. Machida,T. Hattori,W. Li

An aqueous 3  m (=mol/kg) RbCl solution in D 2 O is measured at 298 K/0.1 MPa, 298 K/1 GPa, 523 K/1 GPa, and 523 K/4 GPa by neutron diffraction. The interference functions are analyzed by an empirical potential structure refinement (EPSR) modeling. The ion hydration and association and hydrogen-bonded water structure as a function of temperature and pressure are revealed in the pair correlation function, coordination number, triangular distribution, and spatial density function (3D structure). The results show that structure parameters are temperature and pressure-dependent. The second hydration layer of Rb + and Cl − becomes evident under elevated pressure and temperature conditions. The average oxygen coordination number of Rb + in the first hydration layer increases from 6.3 ± 1.7 at ambient pressure to 8.9 ± 2.3 at 4 GPa with decreasing coordination distance of 0.290 nm to 0.288 nm. The average oxygen coordination number of Cl − in the first hydration shell increases from 5.9 ± 1.5 at ambient pressure to 9.1 ± 2.1 at 4 GPa, and the corresponding coordination distance decreases from 0.322 nm to 0.314 nm with increasing pressure. The orientation of the water dipole in the first solvation shell of Rb + and a central water molecule is sensitive to pressure, but that in the first solvation shell of Cl - does not change very much regardless of the thermodynamic condition. The number of contact-ion pairs Rb + -Cl − decreases with elevated temperature and increases with elevated pressure. Water molecules are closely packed, and the tetrahedral hydrogen-bonded network of water molecules no longer exists in extreme conditions.

Thermodynamics and phase equilibrium of the high concentration solid solution-aqueous solution system KCl–RbCl–H2O from T = 298.15 K to T = 323.15 K

Lijiang Guo,Haijun Han,Ouyang Dong,Yan Yao

Water activities of the high concentration solid solution-aqueous solution system (SS-AS) KCl–RbCl–H 2 O and its sub-binary systems at T   =   298.15   K and T   =   323.15   K have been elaborately measured by an isopiestic method. The solubility of this ternary system at T   =   (298.15, 308.15 and 323.15)   K was also measured by a Flow-Cloud-Point method. A Pitzer model was used to estimate the reliability of the solubility reported in the literature, and to judge the type of solid phase, by correlating the measured water activity and the reported solubility values. The binary model parameters as a function of temperature between T   =   298.15   K and T   =   323.15   K were obtained by fitting the water activities in the binary systems. The predicted water activities at T   =   298.15   K and T   =   323.15   K with the obtained binary parameters only, are in good agreement with the experimental values, which indicate that the Pitzer model can reliably represent the properties of the ternary system, with binary parameters only within the temperature range from T   =   298.15   K to T   =   323.15   K. Under the different assumptions that the equilibrium solid phase involved the pure salts (KCl (s) and RbCl (s) ) for the ideal solid solution or regular solid solution (K, Rb)Cl (ss) , the solubility isotherms at T   =   (298.15, 308.15 and 323.15)   K were calculated and compared to experimental results, respectively. It was found that only the calculated solubility isotherms for (K, Rb)Cl (ss) regular solid solution are consistent with the corresponding experimental values. The solid phase equilibrated with the aqueous solution in the KCl–RbCl–H 2 O ternary system should be a regular solid solution (K, Rb)Cl (ss) . This conclusion also can be verified from the Lippman log   ∑   K   −   X s   −   X act and Φ   ∑   m   −   X s   −   X aq equilibrium diagrams.

Phase Equilibrium of the RbCl–RbBr–H2O System at 298.15 K and Molecular Dynamics Simulations of MCl–MBr–H2O (M = Li+, Na+, K+, Rb+, NH4+)

Ya-Li Wang,Rui-Zhi Cui,Hong-Bao Ren,Qiu-Ye Yang,Wu Li

This study addresses the unclear crystallization behavior of rubidium in chlorobromine coexisting brine systems through experimental and simulation approaches. First, the phase equilibrium data of the ternary system RbCl–RbBr–H2O at 298.15 K were determined using the isothermal dissolution equilibrium method, and the corresponding phase diagram was constructed. The solid phase was characterized by XRD and SEM-EDS, and solubility was theoretically calculated and validated using the Pitzer model. To further elucidate the solid-solution formation behavior of rubidium in chlorobromine coexisting brine systems at the microscopic level, molecular dynamics simulations were performed. Combined with the previously reported phase diagrams of MCl–MBr–H2O systems (M = Li+, Na+, K+, NH4+), the radial distribution functions, coordination numbers, and mean square displacements of different systems were systematically analyzed to examine the differences in ionic hydration structures and migration behavior. From macroscopic phase equilibria to microscopic ion dynamics, this study systematically clarifies the common patterns of formation of continuous solid solutions in chlorobromine coexisting brine systems.

Solubility Isotherm Determination of the H3BO3 + RbCl + H2O and H3BO3 + NH4Cl + H2O Systems at T = 273.15, 298.15, 323.15, 348.15, and 363.15 K and Thermodynamic Modeling

Ziyu Zhuang,Dongdong Li,Jinshun Lei,Dandan Gao,Dewen Zeng

Highly concentrated boron is widespread in salt lake brine and nuclear wastewater. Treatment of these aqueous solutions involves the solubility of extensive boron-containing minerals. Recently, we concentrated on the temperature-dependent solubility of the H3BO3 + salt + water system. Here, we systematically determined the ternary solubility isotherms in the H3BO3 + RbCl + H2O and H3BO3 + NH4Cl + H2O systems at T = (273.15, 298.15, 323.15, 348.15 and 363.15) K, using an isothermal equilibrium method. The results showed that both ternary systems belonged to a simple eutectic case. The solubility isotherms consisted of the solubility branches of H3BO3(cr) and RbCl(cr) or NH4Cl(cr). Using a revised Pitzer–Simonson–Clegg (rPSC) model implemented in the ISLEC software, these ternary solubility data were represented by fitting the interaction parameters between H3BO3 and RbCl and H3BO3 and NH4Cl. With the help of these models, polythermal phase diagrams of the two ternary systems are predicted.

Solid–Liquid Phase Equilibrium in the Quaternary System H3BO3 + CsCl + RbCl + H2O at 298.15 K and Identification of a Solid Solution Phase 2H3BO3·3(Cs,Rb)Cl

Ziyu Zhuang,Manman Zhang,Dandan Gao,Wolfgang Voigt,Dongdong Li,Haitao Feng

Previously, the formation of a stable adduct 2H3BO3·3CsCl (BC) was observed in CsCl(aq) but not in RbCl(aq). The phase equilibria of the H3BO3 + RbCl + CsCl + H2O system were studied to assess the potential for selective separation of Cs from Rb. Solubility isotherms were determined experimentally. Appropriate liquid composition ranges were preselected using modeling with ISLEC’s equilibrium software. Schreinemakers’ wet solid method, XRD, Raman and IR spectra, Roozeboom’s plots, and SEM-EDS were applied to identify the four phase regions H3BO3, 2H3BO3·3(Cs,Rb)Cl (Bss), (Rb,Cs)Cl, and (Cs,Rb)Cl. Notably, in the presence of RbCl, the BC phase incorporates Rb+, forming a substitutional solid solution, Bss, which inhibits selective separation of CsCl. Roozeboom’s plot analysis revealed that RbCl exhibits higher solubility in the Bss phase compared to the (Cs,Rb)Cl solid solution. The separation factor βCs/Rb between the solid Bss phase and the corresponding solution was 2.0, significantly lower than that of (Cs,Rb)Cl (βCs/Rb = 9.5) in the ternary system without H3BO3. This indicates a stronger coordination between CsCl and H3BO3 relative to that of RbCl in the ternary system without H3BO3. The above understanding provides new strategies designing novel B–OH compounds to enhance Cs/Rb separation efficiency in aqueous systems.
