An efficient and ecofriendly method to remove impurities from raw cashmere fiber was constructed by employing various biological enzymes ( lipase , cellulase , pectinase and protease ) to form reverse microemulsion in supercritical carbon dioxide. An investigation and optimization of various parameters, such as the dosage of biological enzymes, cleaning temperature, pressure and duration for this method were performed according to the whiteness and weight loss of the treated samples. Then the proposed method was further validated by energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry (EDS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis to verify the impurity removal from cashmere fiber. Moreover, the aggregation structure and properties of cleaned cashmere fiber were also investigated by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), strength measurement, moisture absorption testing and thermal analysis (TG-DTG). The results declare that, via forming a type of (W+enzymes)/SCF-CO 2 microemulsion to transfer the biological enzymes into supercritical medium, various impurities from raw cashmere fiber could be efficiently decreased and removed, which cleaning performance was better than a conventional control process. The cleaning efficiency for various impurities was notably influenced by the dosages of the applied enzymes and system parameters, which could be improved at an appropriate condition in SCF-CO 2 . Furthermore, the cleaning feasibility, reliability and efficiency of the enzymatically catalyzed method for raw cashmere fiber was successfully verified by SEM, EDS, XRD, TG-DTG, tensile strength analysis, and a supercritical cleaning mechanism for raw cashmere was further proposed.

Summary Red blood cells supply the oxygen required for all human cells and are in demand for emerging blood-loss therapy. Here we identified N6-methyl-2′-deoxyadenosine (6mdA) as an agonist that promotes the hyperproliferation of burst-forming unit erythroid (BFU-E) progenitor cells. In addition, 6mdA represses the apoptosis of erythroid progenitor cells (EPCs). Combined use of with SCF and EPO enabled cultures of isolated BFU-E to be expanded up to 5,000-fold. Transcriptome analysis showed that 6mdA upregulates the expression of the EPC-associated factors c-Kit, Myb, and Gata2 and downregulates that of the erythroid maturation-related transcription factors Gata1, Spi1, and Klf1. Mechanistic studies suggested that 6mdA enhances and prolongs the activation of erythropoiesis-associated master gene c-Kit and its downstream signaling, leading to expansion and accumulation of EPCs. Collectively, we demonstrate that 6mdA can efficiently stimulate the EPC hyperproliferation and provide a new regenerative medicine recipe to improve ex vivo generation of red blood cells.

Developing new reactive disperse dyes and applying them to dye natural fiber substrates in the supercritical fluid of carbon dioxide (SCF–CO 2 ) is of great importance for ecological protection and the sustainable development of the textile industry. In this work, a reactive disperse dye with an anthraquinonoid chromogen in blue hue and a dichlorotriazine reactive group was successfully designed and synthesized. The precursor of the anthraquinonoid derivative reactive disperse dye was synthesized with a one-pot amination reaction method by employing the reactions between 1, 4-dihydroxyanthraquinone or its cryptochrome 1, 4-diaminoanthraquinone and aniline, ethylenediamine. Then, the precursor was subjected to continuously react with a reactive group of cyanuric chloride to obtain a dichlorotriazine type reactive disperse dye. Moreover, the chemical structures and color characteristics of the final dye, as well as the precursor, were characterized and confirmed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), 1 H nuclear magnetic resonance ( 1 H NMR), and ultraviolet–visible absorption spectroscopy (UV–Vis). Additionally, the anthraquinonoid derivative reactive disperse dye was preliminarily applied to the coloration of cotton and wool substrates in SCF-CO 2 . The coloration results show that the staining fastness and the dry, wet rubbing fastness of the reactive disperse dye on both cotton and wool substrates were satisfactory.

In this study, a novel UV-resistant hyperbranched polyurethane (HBPU) was designed and processed into a series of waterborne sizing agents for short carbon fiber (SCF). The content of functional groups on the SCF surface was subsequently increased, leading to improvement of the interfacial adhesion of SCF/polyamide6 (PA6) composites. According to the mechanical property results, SCF/PA6 composites with 0.5 wt% sizing agent showed the best reinforcing effect, with the tensile and bending strength increased by 41.4% and 26.4%, respectively. The mechanisms for the enhancement of the interfacial adhesion by sizing agent were investigated. Noteworthy, the mechanical properties of the sizing SCF/PA6 composites remained about 99% after a week of uninterrupted UV aging treatment, indicating the excellent UV resistance of the nTiO 2 grafted HBPU sizing agent.

Developing flexible textiles with effective electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding is highly attractive for wearable devices and electronic protection applications. However, achieving both excellent flame retardancy and EMI shielding performance in flexible textile systems remains a great challenge due to the inherent flammability of textiles and the poor durability of modified coatings. In this work, thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) incorporating a metal–organic framework-encapsulated ammonium polyphosphate (APP@ZrCu-MOF) and short carbon fibers serves as the outer layers. The polyester (PET) fabric modified by the alternating deposition of MXene and reduced graphene oxide is used as the intermediate layer. These components are assembled into a flexible multilayer composite by employing an air-assisted hot-pressing technique. Among the prepared composites, TMS4P3 exhibits markedly improved fire safety, which has a high limiting oxygen index of 29.5%. Compared with the unmodified PET/TPU composite, the peak heat release rate, total heat release, peak smoke production rate, and total smoke release of TMS4P3 decrease by 44.9, 41.4, 60.0, and 42.7%, respectively. In addition, TMS4P3 exhibits average EMI shielding effectiveness values of 30.4 and 31.9 dB in the X and Ku bands, respectively. This study provides a promising approach for broadening the applications of PET fabrics and TPU and offers an effective strategy for the fabrication of multifunctional flexible composites.

The urgent demand for reliable thermal management, electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding and mechanical properties in aerospace electronics operating under extreme conditions drives the development of advanced multifunctional composites. Herein, the core-shell boron nitride/short carbon fiber (BN/SCF), synthesized via diazonium coupling and electrostatic assembly, is strategically aligned onto CF felts using a high-voltage electric field. Subsequent lamination with CF cloth and vacuum-assisted resin infusion (VARI) molding to fabricate multifunctional carbon fiber/epoxy resin (CF/EP) composites. The three-dimensional CF felt establishes thermal conduction bridges within EP interlayers, effectively mitigating the intrinsic limitation of out-of-plane thermal conductive. Concurrently, the BN nanoplates coated onto SCF enhance EP phonon transport via architecturally ordered crystalline lattice alignment, while oriented SCFs extend phonon pathways, collectively establishing dual phonon-electron thermal channels. Consequently, the CF/EP composites achieved optimal out-of-plane and in-plane thermal conductivities of 1.20 and 14.08 W m -1 K -1 . The unique core-shell BN/SCF promotes multiple reflections of electromagnetic waves (EMWs) through an energy band structure mismatch between the wide bandgap BN and conductive SCF, and BN dielectric polarization, achieving exceptional shielding effectiveness (SE) of 50.06 dB, which was a 63.33 % improvement over the original CF/EP composites (30.65 dB). Moreover, the core-shell BN/SCF acts as rivet-like reinforcements, suppressing crack propagation through synergistic mechanical interlocking and chemical bonding, achieving 35.50 % and 97.35 % enhancement in ILSS and mode II toughness compared to original CF/EP. This multiscale structural engineering strategy demonstrates a material-level solution to fulfill the multifunctional requirements of next-generation aerospace systems operating under extreme environment conditions.

The silane/maleimide co -modified waterborne polyurethane (WPU-M-S) sizing agent and furan-functionalized carbon nanotubes (CNTs-FA) were prepared through chemical modification method. The continuous grafting of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) was realized on the carbon fiber surface by multiple continuous surface treatments, including electrochemical anodizing (EAO), sizing, and chemical grafting of CNTs. The stable physical and chemical connection between carbon fiber, sizing agent, and resin was constructed through the preparation of CNTs/SCF reinforcement. The results of different surface treatment processes such as ultrasound and CNTs grafting process were contrastively studied in terms of surface morphology , microstructure, and mechanical properties. It is reflected that carbon fiber grafted with CNTs-FA (CNTs/SCF) that were prepared by ultrasound assisted chemical grafting provide optimal wettability and interfacial performance. The interfacial shear strength (IFSS) and interlaminar shear strength (ILSS) of CNTs/SCF reinforced epoxy resin composites are 115.37 % and 93.91 % higher than those of the untreated carbon fiber (UCF), respectively. The synergistic improvement mechanism of reinforcement on carbon fiber reinforced epoxy resin composites interfacial properties was proposed. This research provides a multiple continuous surface treatment technology that matches the industrial production of carbon fiber to prepare CNTs/SCF reinforcement.

Carbon fiber reinforced polymers (CFRP) composites, prized for their outstanding mechanical properties, have garnered extensive applications across critical industries including aerospace, transportation, new energy systems, and power infrastructure. However, under increasingly demanding service environments, improving the interlaminar fracture toughness of CFRP composites has become a pivotal challenge to ensure structural integrity and longevity. The present work presents an effective design strategy to address this issue for the carbon fiber/epoxy/core-shell rubber composite by integrating multi-scale reinforcements. The mechanical performance of specimens with different compositions was systematically analyzed. Synergistic multi-scale toughening mechanisms were rigorously elucidated through fracture surface morphology analysis and correlative mechanical data interpretation. The results demonstrate that incorporating short carbon fibers (SCF) into CFRP (i) and adding core-shell rubber (CSR) to CFRP (ii) both significantly enhance the toughness. CFRP (iii), which contains both SCF and CSR, exhibits an even more pronounced toughening effect. The subsequent grafting of carboxylated multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs-COOH) onto SCF, resulting in CFRP (iv) with SCF-CNTs and CSR mixed, demonstrates superior interlaminar fracture toughness compared to CFRP (iii). Specifically, the G IC $$ {G}_{\mathrm{IC}} $$ and G IC $$ {G}_{\mathrm{IC}} $$ of CFRP (iv) increase by 12.89% and 15.46%, respectively, compared to CFRP (iii). This improvement is attributed to the strengthened interfacial bonding between MWCNTs-COOH and the matrix through mechanical interlocking, which enhances fiber bridging and the effects of core-shell rubber. This multi-scale reinforcement paradigm provides critical insights into the design of damage-tolerant CFRP composites for extreme operational scenarios, advancing their deployment in next-generation engineering systems subjected to complex mechanical loads.
