Short-wave infrared (SWIR) detectors are becoming increasingly vital in areas such as autonomous driving, food inspection, medical diagnostics, and scientific exploration. Recently, Te x Se 1–x has exhibited exceptional promise for infrared photodetection. However, Te x Se 1–x -based devices still struggle with excessively high dark current and subpar performance. This work presents an interface engineering via selenization in the SnO x /Te 0.73 Se 0.27 heterojunction SWIR photodetector. The post-selenization modifies the surface properties of SnO x , reduced the interface defect density, and enlarged the built-in potential in the junction. Moreover, this interface engineering leads to improved band alignment, facilitating charge transport and collection. As a result, the improved device achieves a reduced dark current density from 1.6 × 10 −6 A cm −2 to 1.4 × 10 −7 A cm −2 at zero bias voltage. The device exhibits a broad-spectrum response ranging from 300 to 1700 nm, with a room-temperature responsivity of 0.33 A W −1 at 980 nm, a specific detectivity of 6.61 × 10 10 Jones, a -3 dB bandwidth of 120 kHz, and a linear dynamic range of 110 dB. Moreover, its applications in the short-wave infrared single-pixel imaging is demonstrated.

Inverted flexible perovskite solar cells (FPSCs) offer a promising route towards commercialization by using undoped inorganic hole transport layers and thermally-stable electron transport layers (ETLs), which deliver good environmental stability such as water resistance. But the power-conversion-efficiencies (PCEs) of inverted flexible perovskite cells are still far below those of FPSCs in regular configuration so far. One main challenge for achieving high-performance FPSCs lies in optimizing the ETLs and their adjacent buffering layers. Herein, we modify the fullerene derivatives (Phenyl-C61-butyric acid methyl ester , PCBM) ETLs by adding 3-aminopropyl triethoxysilane (APTS) molecules into the PCBM solutions. The addition of APTS results in smoother and denser PCBM layers via a physically steric-hindrance effect mechanism, which could benefit the electron collection between the PCBM layer and the perovskite layer. More importantly, APTS can offer nucleating sites, such as amine groups or hydroxy groups by partially hydrolyzing, to grow conformal tin oxide (SnO x ) layers by atomic layer deposition (ALD), which acts as robust buffer layers to replace traditional bathocuproine (BCP) layer. Finally, high-performance inverted FPSCs based on the optimized PCBM/SnO x electron-selective layers are fabricated, delivering a best PCE of 18.62%. The unencapsulated FPSC showed a slow decay and remained above 90% of its initial PCE after being stored for more than 600 h in a damp environment with a humidity of more than 85% R.H. The strategy is demonstrated to be applicable in the future large-scale production of stable FPSCs.

Series catalysts of Ru-SnOx/Al2O3with varying SnOxloading of 0–3 wt% were prepared, and their catalytic activity and selectivity have been discussed and compared for the selective hydrogenation ofm-dinitrobenzene (m-DNB) tom-nitroaniline (m-NAN). The Ru-SnOx/Al2O3catalysts were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and hydrogen temperature-programmed reduction (H2-TPR) and desorption (H2-TPD). Under the modification of SnOx, the reaction activity increased obviously, and the best selectivity tom-NAN reached above 97% at the complete conversion ofm-DNB. With the increasing of the SnOxloading, the amount of active hydrogen adsorption on the surface of the catalyst increased according to the H2-TPD analysis, and the electron transferred from Ru to SnOxspecies, as determined by XPS, inducing an electron-deficient Ru, which is a benefit for the absorption of the nitro group. Therefore, the reaction rate and product selectivity were greatly enhanced. Moreover, the Ru-SnOx/Al2O3catalyst presented high stability: it could be recycled four times without any loss in activity and selectivity. Keywords:Ru catalyst;SnOxdoping;hydrogenation;m-dinitrobenzene;m-nitroaniline;catalyst recycling

Porous carbon nanofibers (PCNFs)@Tin oxide (SnO x ) nanocomposites are synthesized by co-electrospinning using renewable alkali lignin-polyaniline (PAN) solution as the core and Sn precursors-polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP) solution as the shell, followed by heat treatment. By changing the preheating temperature during heat treatment, PCNFs@SnO x nanocomposites with different nanostructures are obtained. The nanocomposites as electrodes of supercapacitors exhibit remarkable performance. The relationship between the microstructures and electrochemical properties of nanocomposites is explored. The experimental results show that increasing the preheating temperature to 300 °C, micropores and mesopores coexist in this nanocomposite. The prepared nanocomposite as the electrode possesses a high specific capacitance of 229 F g −1 at 0.2 A g −1 . The superior electrochemical performance is presumably attributed to the large specific surface areas of PCNFs and pseudocapacitance of SnO x modifications. These encouraging results show great potential in synthesizing renewable biomass-based PCNFs@ SnO x nanocomposites with different structures.

In this work, we present the self-passivation of tin oxide (SnO x ) electron transporting layer (ETL) induced by manipulatively filling the oxygen vacancies for perovskite solar cells (PSCs). The oxygen component of SnO x ETL is tuned by the annealing under the oxygen (O 2 ) atmosphere to control the trap state density for high electron collection efficiency. With increasing the O 2 content when annealing, oxygen vacancies of SnO x ETL are filled gradually, with the x of SnO x being up to 1.84, while the crystalline structure grown better to be rutile. Furthermore, the measurement of electron transport dynamic demonstrates that the SnO x ETL is benefit for electron collection after O 2 -annealed, and receiving high power conversion efficiency (PCE) of PSCs. The PSC based on the O 2 -annealed SnO x ETL yields an average PCE of over 19%, much higher than 17.81% of that after N 2 -annealing. The O 2 -annealed PSC gives a champion PCE of 20.40%, with a short current density of 24.41 mAcm −2 , an open circuit voltage of 1.14 V and a fill factor of 73.37%. Therefore, the annealing is an efficient and simple way to control the quality of SnO x ETL for the high performance PSCs.

Efficient and selective photoelectrochemical CO2 reduction remains a significant challenge for solar fuel production. Here, we fabricated a heterostructured Cu2O photocathode featuring a pristine SnO2 layer deposited via atomic layer deposition. Upon photoelectrochemical activation, the SnO2 layer transformed into uniformly distributed Sn/SnOₓ nanoparticles across the photocathode surface. Systematic characterization revealed the SnO2 layer's structural evolution. The activated Cu2O photocathode significantly enhanced the charge transfer characteristics and PEC CO2 reduction performance, delivering a current density of -2.5 mA cm-2 at -0.2 V vs. RHE and a formate Faradaic efficiency of 75.4% at -0.1 V vs. RHE. Coupling with a semitransparent BiVO4/NiCo LDH photoanode enables unassisted, solar-driven CO2 reduction and ethylene glycol (EG) oxidation, achieving a current density of 0.11 mA cm-2 and producing 0.13 μmol cm-2 formate yield in the first 0.5 hour. This work presents a scalable and earth-abundant materials-based strategy for efficient PEC CO2 reduction and underscores the potential of tandem architectures for sustainable solar fuel generation.

The scalability processing of all functional layers in perovskite solar cells (PSCs) is one of the critical challenges in the commercialization of perovskite photovoltaic technology. In response to this issue, a large-area and high-quality gallium-doped tin oxide (Ga-SnOx) thin film is deposited by direct current magnetron sputtering and applied in CsPbBr3 all-inorganic PSCs as an electron transport layer (ETL). It is found that oxygen defects of SnOx can be remarkably offset by regulating oxygen flux and acceptor-like Ga doping level, resulting in higher carrier mobility and suitable energy level alignment, which is beneficial in accelerating electron extraction and suppressing charge recombination at the perovskite/ETL interface. At the optimal O2 flux (12 sccm) and Ga doping level (5%), the device based on sputtered Ga-SnOx ETL without any interface modification shows a power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 8.13%, which is significantly higher than that of undoped SnOx prepared by sputtering or spin coating. Furthermore, a PCE of 5.98% for a device with an active area of 1 cm2 is obtained, demonstrating great potential in fabricating efficient and stable large-area PSCs.

Furfural is a promising platform chemical that can be catalyzed from lignocellulose biomass. In this study, a novel micro-mesoporous carbon supported tin oxide catalyst (MC-SnO x ) was developed to convert xylose into furfural in a low sodium chloride (NaCl) concentration and acid-free biphasic system. The catalysts synthesized by annealing from 400 °C to 600 °C for 3.5h were characterized by BET, SEM, XPS , XRD , NH 3 -TPD and FTIR techniques. The factor that mostly affected the catalytic performance was the acid concentration of the catalysts, and the best catalytic performance was achieved by MC-SnO x annealed at 450 °C. Further increasing the annealing temperature can cause reduction, volatilization and aggregation of Sn species, which can finally affect acid concentration and performance of the catalyst. In addition, a synergistic catalytic effect was found between MC-SnO x and NaCl and effectivity of low concentration of NaCl indicated the potential of applying seawater or wastewater containing NaCl as a low-cost reaction solvent and NaCl source. To balance the catalytic performance, cost, equipment safety and environmental concerns, a reasonable furfural yield of 53.9% was achieved over the MC-SnO x -450 and NaCl (0.2 M) in biphasic system under mild conditions (180 °C and 20 min) with a good catalyst reusability .

The development of methodologies for synthesizing carrier-transporting materials is critical for optoelectronic device fabrication. Amorphous metal oxides have emerged as potential carrier transport materials for perovskite tandem solar cells and flexible electronics due to their ease of fabrication and excellent electronic properties. However, perovskite solar cells employing amorphous metal oxides as the electron-transporting layers (ETLs) remain inefficient. This research describes a moderate dehydration reaction for the low-temperature synthesis of amorphous SnOx. We investigated this amorphous SnOx as the ETL for perovskite solar cells and demonstrated a maximum power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 20.4%, the greatest efficiency ever attained with an amorphous metal oxide ETL produced below 100 °C. Remarkably, the device maintained 85% of its initial efficiency for more than 4800 h. Furthermore, flexible perovskite solar cells based on this amorphous SnOx have a maximum PCE of 11.7%. Finally, this amorphous SnOx was used to fabricate LEDs and exhibited a maximum external quantum efficiency of over 3%.

In this article, Pt-SnxOyhybrid nanoparticles encaged in porous silica nanospheres (Pt-SnxOy@PSNs) were prepared by using 1-dodecanethiol (C12-SH) as a coordination agent to confine Pt and Sn ions in a microemulsion system, which is formed by cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) and C12-SH as co-surfactants in water. Compared with Pt@PSNs, when different molar ratios of SnxOywere introduced into Pt@PSNs to form Pt-SnxOy@PSNs, the catalytic efficiency of 4-nitrophenol (4-NP) reduction with NaBH4can be significantly enhanced. At molar ratios of 4-NP/Pt of 150/1, the 4-NP conversion reached 100% over Pt-SnxOy@PSNs with Pt/Sn molar ratios of 1/0.75 in 8 min. This catalytic performance showed a slight decrease after six reaction cycles. This enhanced catalytic efficiency can be ascribed to the synergistic effect between Pt and SnxOy,and the protection of porous silica nanostructures can effectively improve the stability of the catalyst.

p-nitrophenol (p-NP) is a pollutant with environmental persistence, bioaccumulation potential, and significant health risks, and is widely dispersed in wastewater, so efficient removal ofp-NP is imperative. Among the various methods, the catalytic reduction ofp-NP top-aminophenol (p-AP) using sodium borohydride (NaBH4) is a particularly promising one and, herein, catalysts play a crucial role. Among the various metals, Au shows unique catalytic activity forp-NP reduction. However, nanosized Au often exhibit limited activity and stability due to their high surface free energy. To address this challenge, we designed and synthesized Au-SnOxhybrid nanoparticles confined within hollow mesoporous silica nanoreactors (Au-SnOx@hm-SiO2) via a soft-template-assisted co-adsorption strategy. The resulting bimetallic Au-SnOx@hm-SiO2nanoreactor showed significantly enhanced catalytic activity toward the NaBH4-mediated reduction ofp-nitrophenol (p-NP) compared with its monometallic Au@hm-SiO2counterpart, owing to the synergistic effect between Au and SnOx. Among various Au/Sn ratios, the catalyst with an Au/Sn molar ratio of 1:0.1 demonstrated the highest activity, achieving complete conversion ofp-NP within 5 min at ap-NP/Au molar ratio of 529:1—a tenfold improvement over Au@hm-SiO2. Moreover, the catalyst maintained high efficiency over six consecutive cycles, with only slight deactivation, benefiting from the protective silica shell.

To address the volume change-induced pulverization problem of tin-based anodes, a concept using hollow carbon nanoballs (HCNBs) as buffering supports is herein proposed. HCNBs with hollow interior, flexibility and graphitic crystallization are first prepared by a combined method of chemical vapor deposition (CVD) and template-synthesis using CH4 as the carbon source and CaCO3 as the conformal template. The ultrafine SnO2 nanoparticles are loaded onto the HCNBs (denoted as SnO2@HCNBs) via pyrolysis of tin(II) 2-ethylhexanoate at 300 °C in air. On further annealing SnO2@HCNBs in Ar, SnO2 is partially reduced to SnOx by consuming a part of carbon of HCNBs as the reducing agent, and thus SnOx@HCNBs are obtained (note that SnOx represents a composite consisting of SnO2, SnO and Sn phases). When applied as anode materials for lithium ion batteries (LIBs), HCNBs deliver high reversible capacities of 841 mA h g−1 after 125 cycles at 200 mA g−1, and 726 mA h g−1 after 400 cycles even at 1000 mA g−1, while SnO2@HCNBs and SnOx@HCNBs exhibit discharge capacities of 1042 and 1299 mA h g−1 after 400 cycles at 200 mA g−1, respectively. Notably, all of them display gradually increased capacity with retention over 100% even after long-term cycling, which is attributed to the novel robust characteristic of the HCNBs as revealed by the ex situ TEM analysis. The flexible hollow HCNBs with high graphitic crystallization not only efficiently tolerate the volume changes of the Li–Sn alloying–dealloying but also facilitate the electrolyte/charge transfer owing to the hollow structure and high conductivity of the HCNBs.
