Carbon nanodots (CDs) with superior fluorescence performance were obtained by hydrothermal method using tomatoes as raw materials. When the ultraviolet absorption band of tartrazine and the fluorescence spectrum of CDs have complementary overlaps, the fluorescent internal filter effect (IFE) occurred. Furthermore, the degree of quenching of fluorescence intensity of CDs has an excellent linear correlation with tartrazine concentration. And based on this principle, a method for detecting tartrazine was established. As the decrease of fluorescence intensity, tartrazine can be measured in the linear range of 0.1 μM–40 μM. The detection limit is 39 nM, and the recovery rate is 90.7%∼114.5%. The established protocol was also effectively employed to assay tartrazine in beverage samples, indicating that it has great potential for food color analysis.

We investigated the influence of incorporating tartrazine on the dose response characteristics of radiochromic 3D dosimeters based on polyurethane resin. We use three types of polyurethane resins with different Shore hardness values: 30 A, 50 A, and 80 D. PRESAGE dosimeters are fabricated with different chemical components and concentrations. Tartrazine (Yellow No. 5) helps incorporate a yellow dye to fabricate the dosimeter. Elemental composition is analyzed with the Z eff . Three sets of six different PRESAGE dosimeters were fabricated to investigate the effects of incorporating yellow dye on the dose response characteristics of the dosimeter. The dose response curve was obtained by measuring the optical absorbance using a spectrometer and optical density using optical CT, respectively. The energy and dose rate dependences are evaluated for the dosimeter with the highest sensitivity. For the optical density measurement, significant sensitivity enhancements of 36.6% and 32.7% were achieved in polyurethane having a high Shore hardness of 80 D and 50 A by incorporating tartrazine, respectively. The same results were obtained in the optical absorbance measurements. The ratio of the Z eff of the dosimeter with 80 D Shore hardness to water was 1.49. The polyurethane radiochromic dosimeter with a Shore hardness of 80 D showed the highest sensitivity and energy and dose rate independence upon the incorporation of tartrazine.

In this work, surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) technology coupled with Ag nanowires was shown to be a promising tool in the detection of tartrazine in large yellow croaker for the first time. Ag nanowires with a uniform diameter were fabricated by an efficient and manageable polyol method. The partial least square model was established for the quantitative analysis of tartrazine, which showed a relatively high linear correlation between actual and predicted concentrations of standard tartrazine solutions. An optimal sample preparation method was also selected and used to extract tartrazine from large yellow croaker within 20 min. The lowest concentration detected was 20.38 ng/cm2, which fully meets the requirements of tartrazine testing in aquatic products. This study indicated that SERS technology combined with the as-prepared Ag nanowires could detect tartrazine sensitively and provide an easily operable and time-saving way to monitor tartrazine in large yellow croaker. Keywords:SERS;Ag nanowires;tartrazine;large yellow croaker

Highly luminescent carbon dots (CDs) derived from fermented beverages-kvass (K-CDs) were synthesized through a one-step hydrothermal method with ethylenediamine (EDA) as a surface passivation reagent. Purified K-CDs with a fluorescent quantum yield of 35.1% were obtained after a dialysis process. The K-CDs were characterized by TEM, FT-IR, XPS, fluorescence and UV-vis spectroscopy. The results indicated that K-CDs possess typical excitation wavelength-dependent blue fluorescence emission, and the strongest excitation and emission wavelengths are 350 nm and 440 nm, respectively. The great spectral overlap between the emission peak (440 nm) of K-CDs and the absorption peak (430 nm) of tartrazine (TAR) leads to an effective fluorescence quenching phenomenon by TAR through inner filter effect (IFE) and the calculated (lg(I 0 /I)) showed a linear response to TAR concentration in the range of 0.1–70 µM. The detection limit of the developed method is 23 nM for TAR, and the relative standard deviation (RSD) is 3.9% (c = 10 µM, n = 7). The fluorescent sensor for TAR based on K-CDs through the IFE mechanism possesses the characteristics of rapid, sensitive, and high selectivity. It has been successfully applied to detect of trace TAR in foods.

As an important way to detect tartrazine, a probe with excellent fluorescence properties is of great significance in fluorescence detection method. Copper nanoclusters (Cu NCs) was prepared by chemical reduction method, in which copper sulfate as metal body, folic acid as capping reagent and ascorbic acid as reducing agent. In the light of inner filter effect and static quenching mechanism, a fluorescence sensor for tartrazine measurement was designed based on Cu NCs with excellent selectivity. The spherical Cu NCs with uniform size emitted blue fluorescence at 443 nm when the excitation wavelength was located at 353 nm. Under the optimum detecting condition, the corresponding linear range and LOD were 0.5–50 μM and 0.071 μM, respectively. Coupled with pleasing recovery experiments in real samples, this as-proposed platform was very promising for tartrazine detection.

Chemical doping with heteroatoms was employed to prepare N,Cl co-doped fluorescent carbon dots (N,Cl-FCDs) which may be designed for the detection of tartrazine. Using urea as the N source and FeCl 3 · 6H 2 O as the Cl source, N,Cl-FCDs were synthesized by hydrothermal method with carbon dots prepared from aloe. Compared with pure carbon dots (CDs), N,Cl-FCDs resulted in dramatic improvement in the fluorescence properties and surface physical chemical properties. The fluorescence quantum yield of the N,Cl-FCDs was as high as 60.52%. As an effective fluorescence probe for tartrazine, a good linear relationship between N,Cl-FCDs and tartrazine was constructed at the concentration range from 0.1 to 30 μM with a detection limit of 48 nM based on the mechanism of fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET). The proposed fluorescent probe method was successfully applied to detect tartrazine in beverages, which is expected to have a potential application in the field of food analysis.

Tartrazine is used as a synthetic colorant to improve the color of food. Excessive intake of tartrazine will seriously harm human health. In this paper, a green and facile one-pot hydrothermal approach is proposed for the preparation of sulfur-doped carbon quantum dots ( S- CQDs) with Alternanthera philoxeroides (AP) powder and thiourea. The S- CQDs were developed as a highly sensitive “turn-off” fluorescent sensor for the detection of tartrazine. The S- CQDs displayed superior fluorescence characteristics of CQDs with a quantum yield (QY) up to 20.19%. S- CQDs exhibited the maximum fluorescence emission intensity at λ em = 462 nm under excitation at λ ex = 390 nm. The standard curve of S- CQDs had good linearity in the range of 7.8 ~ 125 μmol/L tartrazine, and the linear correlation coefficient ( R 2 ) was 0.9983. The S- CQDs were demonstrated to selectively react with tartrazine, leading to fluorescence quenching effect, which was successfully used for the detection of tartrazine with a limit of detection at 0.45 μmol/L, which was lower than the national standard detection limit of 187.14 μmol/L. The feasibility of practical application was assessed by the detection of tartrazine in real samples.

An electrochemiluminescence (ECL) sensor was constructed based on Ru(bpy) 3 2+ @Au and GO@CdS for the detection of tartrazine (TTZ). In the presence of the co-reactant TPrA, Ru(bpy) 3 2+ and CdS quantum dots (QDs) were used as dual luminophores to synergistically amplify the ECL signal of the sensor. Gold nanoparticles (Au NPs) enhanced the electron transport capability of the system and thereby amplified the ECL intensity. Graphene oxide (GO), as a carrier, has a special wrinkle-like structure that not only adsorbed a substantial amount of CdS QDs but also prevented their agglomeration. Additionally, a more sensitive detection method was established based on the quenching of the ECL signal, which occurred due to the interaction between Ru(bpy) 3 2+ and TTZ. A low detection limit (1.3 × 10 –13 mol·L −1 , S/N = 3) was obtained for TTZ concentrations ranging from 4.0 × 10 –13 to 4.0 × 10 –8 mol·L −1 . Finally, actual measurement results from three beverage samples demonstrated that the prepared sensors possess excellent practical capabilities for TTZ detection. Graphical

In this study, we report the synthesis of silver-doped yellow-green fluorescent carbon dots (Ag-YGCDs) using a facile solvothermal method with L-citrulline, phthalamide, and silver nitrate as precursors. The Ag-YGCDs exhibited a maximum emission at 530 nm when excited at 450 nm, with a fluorescence quantum yield of 5.9 %. Paramountly, the Ag-YGCDs exhibited exceptional fluorescence quenching performance with high sensitivity and selectivity towards tartrazine, enabling a novel fluorescent probe for trace tartrazine detection. A wide linear response range spanning 0.10–45 μM was exhibited by the probe for tartrazine quantification, while maintaining a detection limit as low as 27 nM. The constructed method was then successfully applied in various food matrices, including cocktails, juices, energy drinks, hard candies, gummy candies, and chocolate confectioneries. The recovery rates ranged from 91.4 % to 120 %, with relative standard deviations between 1.1 % and 3.7 %, confirming the method's reliability and accuracy.

A sensitive electrochemical method was developed for the simultaneous determination of Brilliant Blue (BB) and tartrazine (Tz) using an ionic liquid-modified expanded graphite paste electrode (IL-EGPE). The IL-EGPE was prepared by mixing ionic liquid-expanded graphite composite (IL-EG) with solid paraffin. Compared with the EGPE, the IL-EGPE remarkably enhanced the electrocatalytic oxidation signals of BB and Tz. Under optimal experimental conditions, the designed IL-EGPE exhibited wide linear responses to BB and Tz ranging from 5.0 × 10–9 to 4.0 × 10–6 M and 1.0 × 10–8 to 1.0 × 10–6 M, respectively. The detection limits for BB and Tz were 2.0 × 10–9 M (1.6 ng/mL) and 3.3 × 10–9 M (1.8 ng/mL) at an S/N of 3, respectively. This electrode showed good reproducibility, stability, and reusability. The proposed method was successfully applied in the simultaneous determination of BB and Tz in a soft drink with satisfactory results.

In this work, sulfur quantum dots (TPA-SQDs) protected by terephthalic acid as a stabilizer were synthesized using a one-pot method. When excited at 310 nm, the synthesized TPA-SQDs solution emitted strong blue fluorescence at 428 nm, and the absolute quantum yield was as high as 85.99%. The proposed SQDs can be used as a fluorescent probe to specifically quench tartrazine (TZ), showing a good linear relationship (R 2 = 0.996) at TZ concentrations of 0.1–20 μM, with a detection limit of 39 nM. By analysing the fluorescence lifetime, UV–Vis absorption spectrum and zeta potential of the assay system, it can be speculated that the fluorescence quenching mechanism of TZ on TPA-SQDs is the inner filter effect (IFE). The proposed method was applied to the detection of TZ in vitamin water and orange juice, and the results were consistent with the determination results by high-performance liquid chromatography. The recoveries and relative standard deviations were 93.2–102.6% and 1.34–2.88%, respectively, which provided an alternative method for the determination of TZ in beverages or other food samples.

In this work, an ultrasensitive sensing system based on fluorescent carbon dots (CDs) was developed for the tartrazine (Tar) determination. The CDs were prepared via a simple one-pot hydrothermal method with m-phenylenediamine as the only precursor. The physical and chemical properties were in detail characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), MALDI-TOF MS, UV-vis absorption and photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy, elemental analysis, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). Upon exposure to Tar, the fluorescence of CDs was efficiently quenched via the dynamic interaction between CDs and Tar as well as the inner filter effect (IFE). With this information, the CDs were proposed as a fluorescence probe for Tar detection. It was found that CDs had high sensitivity and selectivity for Tar sensing, and the linear relationship was observed in the range of 0.01–25.0 μM with the corresponding detection limit (3σ/k) of 12.4 nM, which is much more sensitive than any of the existed CD-based sensing platform. The investigated sensing system was finally utilized for Tar sensing in various food matrices with a high degree of accuracy. The spiked recoveries were in a range of 96.4–105.2%, and the relative standard deviations (RSDs) were lower than 4.13%. This work highlights the great application prospects of CDs for Tar sensing in a rapid, simple, and sensitive way.
