Zero-dimension (0D) lead-free metal halide perovskites have attracted great attention because of their outstanding photophysical properties. However, the development of tunable-color-temperature white-light emission in single perovskite phosphors is still a challenge. Herein, a dual-band tunable multicolor emitters based on ns2 ions (Bi3+ and Te4+) codoped with a 0D hybrid perovskite derivative (C4H12N)2HfCl6 is reported. The prepared (C4H12N)2HfCl6:Bi3+/Te4+ samples exhibit broad dual-band emission originating from the dopant self-trapped excitons of [BiCl6]3– and [TeCl6]2–, respectively. By virtue of the energy transfer from blue-emitting (Bi3+) to yellow-emitting (Te4+), tunable dual-emission white-light emission covering the entire visible region is achieved. Meanwhile, Bi3+/Te4+-codoped perovskites exhibit unique excitation-dependent emission, and a wide color gamut can be obtained by precisely controlling the excitation wavelength, which corresponds to the color hue evolution from warm white to blue, then to white, and finally to orange. These findings provide fundamental insight into multicolor emission in the Bi3+/Te4+-codoped systems and open up more opportunities for multifunctional applications.

Fluorescence thermometry has garnered significant attention for its noninvasive, remote, highly sensitive, and rapid temperature measurement capabilities. However, achieving superior sensitivity at high temperatures remains a persistent challenge. Herein, a series of Rb 2− x Cs x HfCl 6 : y%Te 4+ perovskites are synthesized to investigate the impact exerted by A-site regulating regarding the luminescence efficiency and temperature-responsive capabilities. Te 4+ doping significantly enhances luminescence intensity, with the broadband yellow light resulting from electron–phonon coupling within the soft lattice, driven by self-trapped exciton emission. Furthermore, A-site regulation demonstrates that increasing Cs⁺ content induces enhanced Jahn–Teller distortion, thereby boosting luminescence efficiency. However, the pure Rb sample exhibits the lowest thermal activation energy, as the temperature rises, increased phonon-exciton coupling and the defect activity accelerate the nonradiative recombination, drastically decreasing fluorescence lifetime by two orders of magnitude from 300 to 390 K. Utilizing this exceptional thermal sensitivity, a lifetime-based fluorescence thermometer is developed, attaining a breakthrough relative sensitivity reaching 20.69% K −1 at 390 K, with high repeatability across multiple heating and cooling cycles. Additionally, a high-temperature warning system for lubricating oil pipelines is designed, demonstrating robust monitoring capabilities. This work offers a new perspective on developing highly sensitive thermometers that utilize halide perovskites for high-temperature applications.

Since traditional fluorescent materials are too easily observed by the eyes just under the UV light, off-on fluorescent materials are explored as the new generation of fluorescent labels. In the “off” state, such off-on fluorescent labels cannot be observed by naked eyes under either natural light or UV light. Only after a specific decryption treatment to make the fluorescent materials turning into the “on” state, the fluorescent labels can be observed under the UV light. Up to now, it is still a challenge to prepare fluorescent inks with aforementioned ideal properties by using halide perovskite materials. Herein, we reported the first example of Te 4+ doped indium halide perovskite inks with both off-on fluorescence under solvent stimuli and invisible ink color by the naked eyes. The synergistic effect of doping/undoping of Te 4+ together with the reversible phase transformation between Cs 2 InCl 5 (H 2 O) and Cs 3 InCl 6 under solvent stimuli is key for the off-on fluorescence of crystals. Under acid solvent, the substitutional doping of Te 4+ during the process of phase transformation from Cs 3 InCl 6 to Cs 2 InCl 5 (H 2 O):Te 4+ gives rise to “turning-on” orange emission from Te-induced self-trap emission (STE). Under the stimuli of methanol, the dissolution of Te 4+ from the crystals destroys the structure of Te 4+ in ligand-field and results in “turning-off” Te-induced emission during the process of phase transformation from Cs 2 InCl 5 (H 2 O):Te 4+ to Cs 3 InCl 6 . On the basis of the Te 4+ doped indium halide perovskite , printable and colorless ink can be prepared for the confidential information encryption and decryption. Since the mixture of Cs 3 InCl 6 crystals and TeCl 4 have no absorption in visible light scope, the printed encrypted information by such off-state fluorescent ink is colorless and invisible by the naked eyes under either ambient light or UV light. After decryption by acid solvent stimuli, the resulted Cs 2 InCl 5 (H 2 O):Te 4+ doping crystals have a large Stokes shift with absorption below 450 nm from the excitation of Te 4+ in ligand-field and emission around 570 nm from Te-induced STE. It makes the decryption information still colorless and invisible by the naked eyes under the ambient light but visible and readable under the UV light. In comparison to traditional undoped CsPbBr 3 /CsPb 2 Br 5 perovskites with small Stokes shift and eye-visible ink color, the current colorless Te 4+ doped indium halide perovskites are no doubt providing better security level for both encrypted and decrypted information.

Zero-dimensional metal halide perovskites have captured intense research interest owing to their unique optoelectronic properties. Particularly, metal halides with the n s 2 electronic configuration are of great interest owing to the high-temperature sensitivity of their photoluminescence, which could be applied to remote optical thermometry (ROT). Herein, all-inorganic and lead-free halide perovskite Te 4+ -doped Cs 2 InCl 5 ·H 2 O single crystals (SCs) were prepared through the hydrothermal method and showed a strong temperature dependence of photoluminescence lifetime. Upon Te 4+ doping, the nonemissive Cs 2 InCl 5 ·H 2 O SC exhibits a bright orange emission at 660 nm with a wide full width at half maximum of 180 nm. The strong phonon-exciton coupling promotes the formation of self-trapped excitons in the soft lattice of the zero-dimensional Te 4+ -doped Cs 2 InCl 5 ·H 2 O SC. The Te 4+ ions with the 5s 2 electronic configuration endow the Te 4+ -doped Cs 2 InCl 5 ·H 2 O SC with a strong temperature-dependent photoluminescence lifetime. This SC reaches a maximum specific sensitivity of 0.062K −1 at 320 K, thereby showing the potential advantages of indium-based metal halide perovskites in ROT applications.

The relationship between charge-density-wave (CDW) and superconductivity (SC), two vital physical phases in condensed matter physics, has always been the focus of scientists' research over the past decades. Motivated by this research hotspot, we systematically studied the physical properties of the layered telluride chalcogenide superconductors CuIr2−xAlxTe4 (0 ⩽ x ⩽ 0.2). Through the resistance and magnetization measurements, we found that the CDW order was destroyed by a small amount of Al doping. Meanwhile, the superconducting transition temperature (Tc) kept changing with the change of doping amount and rose towards the maximum value of 2.75 K when x = 0.075. The value of normalized specific heat jump (Δ C/γ Tc) for the highest Tc sample CuIr1.925Al0.075Te4 was 1.53, which was larger than the BCS value of 1.43 and showed the bulk superconducting nature. In order to clearly show the relationship between SC and CDW states, we propose a phase diagram of Tc vs. doping content.

Achieving robust multiband luminescence in metal halide perovskites under blue-light excitation remains challenging due to inefficient energy transfer and weak absorption of lanthanide (Ln 3+ ) ions. Herein, Te 4+ /Ln 3+ (Ln=Er, Ho, Tm, Sm) co-doped Cs 2 NaInCl 6 perovskites were developed as an efficient multiband luminescence material. A unique broadband excitation centered at 435 nm (5s 2 → 5s 1 5p 1 electronic transitions) was introduced through Te 4+ doping, which demonstrates enhanced blue-light compatibility compared to conventional sensitizers such as Sb 3+ /Bi 3+ . Systematic investigations reveal that self-trapped excitons generated in [TeCl 6 ] 2− octahedrons act as efficient energy donors, enabling broadband sensitization of Ln 3+ ions. The optimized Te 4+ /Ln 3+ codoped systems exhibit characteristic multiband emissions spanning both visible and near-infrared (NIR) wavelengths under 435 nm excitation, achieving NIR photoluminescence quantum yields of 10.26% for Te 4+ /Tm 3+ (1223 nm emission) and 9.36% for Te 4+ /Er 3+ (1540 nm emission). These findings establish Cs 2 NaInCl 6 :Te 4+ /Ln 3+ as a versatile optoelectronic platform, combining blue-LED-driven multicolor emission with exceptional stability for practical applications.

Low-dimensional lead-based perovskite materials have recently attracted extensive attentions for their diverse structures, unique optoelectronic properties and enhanced stability. However, the toxicity of lead, low photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) and complex preparation processes limit their practical applications. Herein, we present a simple room-temperature synthesis of orange-emitting lead-free perovskite derivative (NH 4 ) 2 SnCl 6 :Te phosphors with a large quantity at one time. By introducing Te 4+ ions with 5s 2 active lone pairs, (NH 4 ) 2 SnCl 6 :Te exhibits broadband emission peaked at 590 nm, a large full width at half maximum (FWHM) about 127 nm and a maximum PLQY up to 83.51%. Density functional theory calculations combined with comprehensive spectroscopic data reveal that the incorporated Te 4+ ions change the band structure and trigger the formation of Jahn-Teller-like self-trapped excitons (STEs) in [TeCl 6 ] 2− centers. In addition, (NH 4 ) 2 SnCl 6 :Te shows excellent ambient and thermal stabilities. Using (NH 4 ) 2 SnCl 6 :0.5%Te as an orange down-conversion material, highly stable wLEDs with a Commission Internationale de l’Eclairage (CIE) of (0.39, 0.38), correlated color temperature (CCT) of 3855 K, and color rendering index (CRI) of 83 are demonstrated. We expect these results to facilitate the development of low-cost, environmentally friendly and high-performance novel phosphors for future lighting and display technologies.

A series of lead-free Rb2ZrCl6:xTe4+(x= 0%, 0.1%, 0.5%, 1.0%, 2.0%, 3.0%, 5.0%, 10.0%) perovskite materials were synthesized through a hydrothermal method in this work. The substitution of Te4+for Zr in Rb2ZrCl6was investigated to examine the effect of Te4+doping on the spectral properties of Rb2ZrCl6and its potential applications. The incorporation of Te4+induced yellow emission of triplet self-trapped emission (STE). Different luminescence wavelengths were regulated by Te4+concentration and excitation wavelength, and under a low concentration of Te4+doping (x≤ 0.1%), different types of host STE emission and Te4+triplet state emission could be achieved through various excitation energies. These luminescent properties made it suitable for applications in information encryption. When Te4+was doped at high concentrations (x≥ 1%), yellow triplet state emission of Te4+predominated, resulting in intense yellow emission, which stemmed from strong exciton binding energy and intense electron-phonon coupling. In addition, a Rb2ZrCl6:2%Te4+@RTV scintillating film was fabricated and a spatial resolution of 3.7 lp/mm was achieved, demonstrating the potential applications of Rb2ZrCl6:xTe4+in nondestructive detection and bioimaging.

Inorganic metal halides have been drawing significant attention due to their rich configurations and variable emissive properties in the visible and near-infrared region. However, very few reports are available on the all-inorganic metal halides with self-trapped emission in ultraviolet region. Here, the magnesium halides with a large bandgap of over 4.0 eV and alkali metal halides are used to fabricate all inorganic metal halides by ball milling technique. Such “greener” approaches also allowed the reaction at room temperature for preparation of AMgX 3 ·6H 2 O (A = K、Rb、Cs; X = Cl、Br) by combination of MgX 2 and AX, as confirmed by XRD measurement. As a result, the emission of AMgX 3 ·6H 2 O mainly covered the violet and blue region from 396 to 450 nm. After introducing of Sn 2+ and Te 4+ ions into the CsMgBr 3 ·6H 2 O, a typical sample, the emission wavelength of doped ones shifted from 396 nm of original ones to 522 nm for Sn 2+ doped ones, to 569 nm for Te 4+ doped ones. Theoretical calculations showed that the bandgap value was reduced from the original 4.52 eV for CsMgBr 3 ·6H 2 O to an indirect bandgap of 3.95 eV for Sn 2+ doped CsMgBr 3 ·6H 2 O. Combining with the properties of variable-temperature spectra, the Huang-Rhys, and exciton binding energy, the emission mechanism of the product should be attributed to self-trapped exciton (STE) emission. Interestingly, no emission was observed for the Sn 2+ doped samples after exposed moisture. A similar circular quenching-recovery phenomenon is also observed during exposure/de-watering. This material offers a completely new option for hydrochromic materials used for security information.

Low-temperature anticounterfeiting technologies play a crucial role in ensuring the authenticity and integrity of temperature-sensitive products such as vaccines, pharmaceuticals, and food items. In this work, a low-temperature anticounterfeiting route based on the differentiated photoluminescence (PL), PersL, and thermally stimulated luminescence (TSL) behaviors of metal halide perovskite, pure CsCdCl3, and CsCdCl3:10% Te4+ is proposed. The CsCdCl3 host exhibits pronounced color shifts, encompassing PL, PersL, and TSL behaviors, ranging from blue to yellow and orange as the temperature rises from 100 K to room temperature. This color change is attributed to a change in the luminous center (from the D3d octahedron to the C3v octahedron). Conversely, the addition of Te4+ as the luminescence center inhibits the matrix emission, maintains the characteristic orange emission of Te4+, and regulates the trap distribution of the matrix at low temperature and the TL luminescence intensity. This work highlights the significant promise of CsCdCl3:10% Te4+ and CsCdCl3 phosphors as innovative low-temperature anticounterfeiting technologies, especially for cold-chain vaccine safety monitoring.

Vacancy-ordered double perovskites have emerged as promising scintillator materials for X-ray imaging applications. However, they typically necessitate the sophisticated synthetic approaches and exhibit weak emission. Here, an uncomplicated, large-scale, and cost-effective solution synthesis of Te4+-doped Cs2ZrCl6 double perovskite was adopted. Temperature-dependent photoluminescence study on Te4+-doped Cs2ZrCl6 revealed an abnormal negative thermal quenching phenomenon with an increase in temperature. During this process, as the carriers obtain sufficient thermal energy, they can participate in radiative recombination after escaping the trap states, thereby increasing the photoluminescence intensity. Te4+-doped Cs2ZrCl6 microcrystals exhibit highly efficient yellow photoluminescence with a photoluminescence quantum yield of 82% and robust stability, and they are used as scintillators to demonstrate a notable light yield of 24,415 photons MeV–1 and spatial resolution of 8 lp mm–1. It is believed that this scintillator screen shows potential for use in X-ray imaging.

This work employs an ultrafast microwave-assisted synthesis to achieve efficient and uniform Te 4+ doping in Cs 2 ZrCl 6 within 30 min at 60 °C, addressing key challenges of slow kinetics and inhomogeneous distribution prevalent in conventional methods. Structural and optical analyses confirm that temperature and concentration critically govern dopant incorporation and luminescent properties. Temperature-dependent spectroscopy reveals undoped Cs 2 ZrCl 6 hosts dual self-trapped excitons (Zr-STE1 and Zr-STE2) exhibiting excitation-dependent thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) with a minimal singlet-triplet gap (0.060 eV). Te 4+ doping introduces efficient [TeCl 6 ] 2− emitters and modifies energy transfer pathways. Lifetime analysis demonstrates that host TADF, especially synergistic dual-channel activation under 254 nm excitation, enables highly efficient (>83.1%) resonance energy transfer to [TeCl 6 ] 2− centers. Microwave optimization, achieving homogeneous shallow doping, yields an exceptional photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) of 95.43% for Cs 2 ZrCl 6 :Te, significantly outperforming conventional syntheses. The material exhibits outstanding stability under thermal, UV, humidity, cycling, and ambient conditions, with prototype LEDs demonstrating superior reliability. These findings establish a synergistic design strategy combining controlled doping and TADF-mediated energy transfer for high-performance luminescence.
