Perovskite solar cells (PSCs) suffer from a high density of defects at the buried bottom interface, which negatively impacts the efficiency in the PSCs and interface recombination. This is primarily due to carrier recombination losses occurring at the perovskite/SnO 2 . In this study, a two-dimensional lamellar V 2 CT x MXene materials, synthesized by hydrofluoric acid (HF) etching, was incorporated at the buried interface between the SnO 2 electron transport layer and the perovskite layer. The introduction of a V 2 CT x MXene modified layer at the perovskite/SnO 2 buried interface simultaneously modulates the crystallization and defect passivation within the perovskite material, leading to enhanced grain size and crystallinity. Consequently, highly efficient and stable PSCs were achieved. The presence of terminal group T x (OH − , F − ) in V 2 CT x facilitates the transfer of electrons to the 6p vacant orbitals of Pb 2+ ions, promoting the formation of Pb-F complexes. These complexes effectively suppress uncoordinated Pb ions at the perovskite interfaces, thereby significantly reducing defect density. As a result, the V 2 CT x -modified PSCs achieve an average power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 14.6 %, a notable improvement over the 12.8 % of the control devices, while also enhancing operational stability. This research provides a convenient and effective approach for enhancing crystallization and passivation defects in perovskite films, thereby improving device efficiency and stability.

Nonbattery behavior related phase transition of electrodes is usually not favorable for any batteries because it results in performance degradation at all times. Here, we demonstrate a zinc hybrid-ion battery (ZHIB) with an unusual capacity enhancement even within 18 000 cycles by employing V2CTX MXene as the cathode, enormously differing from all reported counterparts with capacity degradation initiated within hundreds of cycles. The dominated mechanisms are determined to be MXene delamination and an unexpected phase transition during cycling. Both the original cathode and secondary derivative contribute to capacity simultaneously, resulting in the unusual capacity enhancement. Consequently, the specific capacity of 508 mAh g–1 (highest for all reported aqueous zinc-ion batteries) and high energy density of 386.2 Wh kg–1 are realized. Also, the quasi-solid-state batteries fabricated can output stably at −20 °C and in bending, twisting, stabbing, and cutting conditions. Our work brings an effective approach, that is, utilizing “unstable” electrode materials, which should usually be avoided, to achieve continuously enhanced performance of a battery. The idea to use both original and secondary materials for energy storage may be developed to be a general method to achieve extraordinary cycling stability of batteries.

In order to improve the electrochromic performance of polyaniline (PANI), porous PANI/vanadium carbide MXene (PANI/V2CTx) composite electrochromic films were prepared via a rapid, facile, and low-cost one-pot electrodeposition method from an aqueous solution composed of aniline and V2CTxfor the first time. The addition of V2CTxwith a 2D layered structure results in the PANI/V2CTxcomposite films exhibiting significantly different morphologies, structures, electrochemical and electrochromic properties from the pure PANI film. The results show that compared with the pure PANI film, the composite film with optimum V2CTxcontent possesses superior electrochromic properties, such as higher optical contrast, switching speed, coloration efficiency, and cycling stability. The improved electrochromic properties of the composite film can be ascribed to its unique porous morphology and strong hydrogen bond and/or electrostatic interaction between PANI and V2CTx. This research demonstrates that the one-pot electrodeposition method and the prepared conductive PANI/MXene composite films have potential applications in various fields.

Constructing a Zinc ion hybrid supercapacitor (ZHMSC) configuration with excellent electrochemical performance for progressive energy storage is worldwide attractive but yet still a considerable challenge. In this study, a universal and effective strategy has been proposed and developed for 3D-writing additive-free V 2 CT x MXene architected ZHMSC to realize the excellent electrochemical performance. With proper designs of printable electrochemical materials and direct ink writing architectures, 3D printed ZHMSC devices with high areal capacitance and excellent areal energy density have been achieved in a limited footprint area. Benefitting from the excellent ion diffusion and highly conductive networks, the 3D printed ZHMSCs device achieves the ultrahigh specific capacitance of 3.82 F cm −2 , large energy density of 1.36 mW h cm −2 and remarkable cyclic performance with the capacitance retention of 97.8 % after 12,000 cycles at 20 mA cm −2 . This work not only provides new insights on direct ink writing for high-performance Zn-Ion hybrid capacitor, but also offers a facile and efficient method to construct large-scale energy storage devices with high electrochemical performance for future energy storage.

MXenes have promising applications in capacitive deionization (CDI) due to their excellent electrical conductivity, tunable layer structure and hydrophilic surface. However, the electrochemical performance and water stability of MXenes would be limited by the large number of terminations on their surface. In this work, we obtained VS2/V2CTx nanocomposites by in situ partial derivatization of MXene to enhance electrochemical performance and slow down its own oxidation, and the resulting material was used as a cathode for CDI desalination. The TOPSIS-Entropy weight model was first used to achieve multi-objective optimization, realizing a salt adsorption capacity of 166.83 mg g−1, a salt removal rate of 3.67 mg g−1 min−1 and an energy consumption of only 0.256 kW h kg−1-NaCl. It also showed good stability over 60 CDI cycles. The fast salt removal rate and high desalination capacity of VS2/V2CTx can be explained by the synergy between the pseudocapacitive and battery behaviors of the VS2/V2CTx hybrid material. In situ electrochemical analysis based on electrochemical quartz crystal microbalance (EQCM) demonstrated that the desalination process is reversible and that the deionization mechanism is a combination of faradaic reaction (removal of Na+·4H2O) and intercalation pseudocapacitance (removal of desolvated Na+). This work shows that VS2/V2CTx, as a partially derived MXene material, provides a new solution to improve the stability and electrochemical properties of MXenes.

Vanadium-based compounds are promising cathodes for aqueous zinc-ion batteries owing to their high capacity derived from multi-electron redox reactions. However, their practical application is often hampered by poor rate capability, caused by low electrical conductivity and sluggish Zn 2+ diffusion kinetics. Herein, we propose a precise amorphization strategy applied to conductive V 2 CT x MXene to overcome these limitations. Starting from exfoliated few-layer V 2 CT x , a controlled annealing process in argon induces a crystalline-to-amorphous transition, which effectively elevates the valence state of surface vanadium, creates abundant active sites for Zn 2+ storage, and expands the interlayer spacing to facilitate ion diffusion. Meanwhile, the intrinsic conductive V-C-V framework remains intact, ensuring rapid electron transport. As a result, the amorphous a-V 2 CT x cathode delivers remarkable electrochemical performance: a high reversible capacity of 543 mAh/g at 1 A/g, exceptional rate capability (494 mAh/g at 30 A/g), and outstanding cycling stability over 3000 cycles with a minimal decay rate of 0.012% per cycle. This work demonstrates the great potential of phase engineering MXenes for developing high-performance energy storage materials.

The single-component electrode materials have not met the requirement of high performance of energy storage devices. Hybrids combined with two-dimensional materials and nanoparticles exhibit problem-solving ability. In this work, ZnFe2O4@V2CTx hybrids are fabricated by in situ chemical co-precipitation, and the morphology, microstructure, and electrochemical performance are characterized. Scanning electron micrscopy images show the internal gaps of the accordion-like structure of V2CTx MXene are filled with ZnFe2O4 nanoparticles. On the basis of the different lithium storage mechanisms and the stable interface electronic transfer, the hybrid with the weight ratio of V2CTx MXene and ZnFe2O4 being 0.5:1 exhibits an amazing reversible capacity of 1189 mAh g–1 after 100 cycles, which is 7.62 times that of pure ZnFe2O4. Obviously, ZnFe2O4@V2CTx MXene electrodes contribute synergetic charge storage via the redox and intercalation mechanism. Interestingly, ex situ X-ray photoelectron spectra are utilized to explore the complicated electrode reaction. These results tend to confirm Zn has not been involved in the lithium storage process. The study will illuminate the application prospect of transition metal oxides-based materials as high-performance electrodes.

Two-dimensional (2D) materials used in potassium ion batteries (PIBs) have high theoretical capacitance and excellent rate characteristics. However, the origin of low diffusion of potassium ions and poor storage kinetics still remain challenge mainly due to the large size of potassium ions (0.138 nm) and narrow 2D interlayer spacing. Herein, the V 2 CT x -based hybrids including 1T-MoS 2 (1T -MoS 2 @V 2 CT x ) has been successfully constructed by the magneto-hydrothermal method and proved to be an eminent anode, which can make PIBs have high reversible capacity and eminent rate performance at the same time. Moreover, the combination of 2D 1T-MoS 2 and V 2 CT x not only significantly promotes the transfer of interfacial charges as well as accelerates the transmission and diffusion of electrons and K + , but also helps to alleviate the volume changes caused by the insertion/extraction of large-sized K + during the cycle, which makes the electrode exhibit good cycle stability. Density functional theory (DFT) indicates that the synergy effect between 1T-MoS 2 and V 2 CT x has significantly strengthened the potassium affinities and ion diffusion kinetics in the 1T-MoS 2 @V 2 CT x anode by reducing the ion diffusion energy barrier, thereby showing outstanding K + storage performance, especially in 1T-MoS 2 @V 2 CF 2 . As a result, the 1T-MoS 2 @V 2 CT x anode shows a high reversible capacity of 887.3 mA h g −1 at 0.1 A g −1 , eminent rate performance of the capacity maintaining 563.6 mA h g −1 at 2.0 A g −1 and remarkable cycle stability of 601.2/374.7 mA h g −1 with 69.4/56.5% capacity retention after 2000 cycles at 1.0/2.0 A g −1 . This work provides a new way for the exquisite design of 2D composite electrodes with excellent performance in PIBs.

Developing homogeneous dispersion and efficient loading Pt-based electrocalalyst remains a huge challenge for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). Herein, a facile approach to deposit Pt nanoparticles on two-dimensional V 2 C MXene (Pt/V 2 CT x ) is achieved. Pt nanoparticles with narrow size distribution (∼3 nm) and high loading capacity are uniformly anchored on the surface of V 2 CT x . The obtained catalysts possess outstanding activity and stability for HER. In 0.5 M H 2 SO 4 , the overpotential of Pt/V 2 CT x (20%) is 67 mV, and the Tafel slope is 20.6 mV/dec. The oxygen-rich surface of V 2 CT x can provide good hydrophilicity, low hydrogen adsorption free energy and oxophilicity to provide abundant bonding sites for Pt nanoparticles. Moreover, the intrinsically excellent conductivity of V 2 CT x and strong coupling between V 2 CT x and Pt are also of benefit for improving the charge transfer and accelerating the HER kinetics. Therefore, Pt/V 2 CT x may be a promising candidate for HER.

Mn-based aqueous zinc-ion batteries (ZIBs) are promising candidate for large-scale rechargeable energy storage because of easy fabrication, low cost, and high safety. Nevertheless, the commercial application of Mn-based cathode is hindered by the challenging issues of low rate capability and poor cyclability. Herein, a manganese–vanadium hybrid, K–V2C@MnO2 cathode, featured with MnO2 nanosheets uniformly formed on a V2CTX MXene surface, is elaborately designed and synthesized by metal–cation intercalation and following in situ growth strategy. Benefiting from the hybrid structure with high conductivity, abundant active sites, and the synergistic reaction of Mn2+ electrodeposition and inhibited structural damage of MnO2, K–V2C@MnO2 shows excellent electrochemical performance for aqueous ZIBs. Specifically, it presents the high specific capacity of 408.1 mAh g–1 at 0.3 A g–1 and maintains the specific capacity of 119.2 mAh g–1 at a high current density of 10 A g–1 in a long-term cycle of up to 10000 cycles. It is superior to almost all reported Mn-based cathodes for ZIBs in the aqueous electrolyte. The superior electrochemical performance suggests that the Mn-based cathode materials designed in this work can be a rational approach to be applied for high-performance ZIBs cathodes.

Since wearable pressure sensors have promising applications in the fields of human physiological signal detection and bionic robots, there is an urgent need for wearable pressure sensors with comprehensive attributes such as high sensitivity and wide detection range. Here, we introduce a facile electrospinning process to fabricate a film composed of thermoplastic polyurethane/carboxyl multiwalled carbon nanotube/V 2 CT X -MXene (TPU/c-MWCNTs/V 2 C). This film has high sensitivity and great linearity, designed for flexible piezoresistive sensors. To further enhance sensor performance, we applied a spin-coating of polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) on the sandpaper surface to create a top substrate with intermittent spinosum structures. Additionally, a layer of TPU fibers was electrospun between the conductive film and the interdigitated electrodes. The assembled components form a flexible piezoresistive sensor with a wide detection range of 0–200 kPa, a high sensitivity of 545.2 kPa −1 , a low detection limit of 5 Pa, a short response time of 48 ms, and excellent long-term durability after 7000 loading/unloading cycles, making the piezoresistive sensor highly discriminating for detecting complex human movements. Thanks to the great sensing performance and stable structure, we conducted various demonstrations to capture human physiological signals, including signals of muscle activity and pulse. These findings indicate the potential of the designed flexible pressure sensor for applications in electronic skin and smart devices.

High-performance aqueous electrochemical energy storage technology has attracted extensive research interest due to its high safety and potential for commercialization. Herein, following the simultaneous doping-electrostatic synergistic assembly strategy, we synthesized the 2D/2D Co-doped NiMn-Layered double hydroxide (LDH)/V 2 CT x MXene (CNMV) composite materials that serve as advanced electrodes for aqueous energy storage devices, such as supercapacitors and zinc ion batteries (ZIBs). For supercapacitors, benefiting from the hetero ion doping effect, the as-assembled CNMV electrode exhibits a higher specific capacitance of 1005 F g −1 at a current density of 1 A g −1 . For the assembled asymmetric supercapacitor (ASC) devices, a high energy density of 30.16 Wh kg −1 at 0.7 kW kg −1 was achieved. Acting as the cathode for ZIBs, CNMV exhibits a high reversible capacity of 322.7 mA h g −1 at 0.2 A g −1 after 100 cycles, and a considerable energy density of 368.7 W h kg −1 at a power density of 246 W kg −1 . The battery-type transformation to the pseudocapacitance-type CNMV electrode for the supercapacitor was demonstrated by quantitative kinetic analysis, while phase transformation and Zn 2+ insertion/extraction for zinc ion storage mechanism were demonstrated by ex-situ XRD and XPS. This study provides a facile and effective approach for the design of high-performance MXene-based electrodes for aqueous electrochemical energy storage devices.
