Owing to the high theoretical capacity, multi-electron reactions and semimetallic characteristics, metal tellurides present promising potential for sodium-ion storage. Yet structural collapse and capacity degradation remain inevitable. In this work, a structural confinement strategy was employed to fabricate zinc-telluride/cobalt-telluride heterostructures (ZnTe/CoTe 2 @NC) that is constrained by nitrogen-doped carbon (NC) derived from a metal-organic framework (MOF) and reinforced by carbon nanotubes (CNTs), via template self-assembly followed by in-situ tellurization. The CNTs crosslink with the MOF precursor to yield a dual-restricted architecture that suppresses nanoparticles agglomeration and enhances cycling stability. In-situ and ex-situ techniques elucidate the “alloy-conversion” reaction mechanism and pseudocapacitive sodium storage behavior of the ZnTe/CoTe 2 @NC anodes. While the density functional theory (DFT) calculations reveal the electronic structure modulation underlying their enhanced conductivity. These favorable electrochemical features arise from the synergistic effects of the Zn-Co heterointerface, the highly conductive carbon network, and the abundant defect sites introduced by nitrogen doping, which mitigate sluggish ion transport and structural degradation. As a result, the ZnTe/CoTe 2 @NC anode delivers a high-rate capacity of 82.1 mAh·g −1 at 20.0 A g −1 and retains 106.1 mAh·g −1 at 1.0 A g −1 after 5000 cycles. This study offers a rational confinement strategy and provides insight into designing electrochemically durable telluride heterostructure anodes.

Pressure is the core of high-pressure science and technology, and the accuracy of pressure calibration is of much importance for high-pressure experiments and production. Although the pressure limit of the large volume press (LVP) continues to increase, there are no well solutions for in situ pressure calibration. In this study, using in situ high-pressure electrical performance measurement technology, two ideal calibration standard materials in powder conductors, cadmium phosphide (Cd 3 P 2 ) and zinc telluride (ZnTe) with stable physical and chemical properties and obvious resistance change, are applied to pressure calibration in the LVP. In situ high-pressure synchrotron radiation x-ray diffraction was used to verify the phase transition pressure point of Cd 3 P 2 . The introduction of powder conductors for pressure calibration commits to establish a pressure system, which is safer, more stable to operate, and more accurate in experimental measurements for the LVP.

Among the various semiconductor materials, zinc telluride possesses the lowest electron affinity and ultrafast charge separation capability, facilitating improved charge transfer kinetics. In addition, ZnTe has a relatively high density, contributing to high volumetric capacity. Here, 1D N-doped carbon-coated ZnTe core-shell nanowires (ZnTe@C) are designed and prepared via a facile ion-exchange and carbonization technique. When evaluated as anode for metal ion batteries, it demonstrates superior electrochemical performance in both Li and Na ion storage, including high gravimetric and volumetric capacities (1119 mA h g −1 and 906 mA h cm −3 , respectively, at 100 mA g −1 for Li ion storage), excellent high-rate capability, and long-term cycling stability. This remarkable electrochemical performance is attributed to the low electron affinity and high density of ZnTe, and the amorphous nature of the N-doped carbon layer in the heterostructured ZnTe@C nanowires, which not only provide fast charge transfer paths, but also effectively maintain the structural and electrical integrity of the ZnTe. The strategy of embedding high density and high-performance active materials in highly conductive nanostructures represents an effective way of achieving electrode materials with excellent gravimetric and volumetric capacities towards superior energy storage systems.

Z-scheme heterojunction photocatalysts can restrain carriers’ recombination while retaining high redox capacity. Herein, a novel ZnTe/rGO/WO 3 (ZRW) Z-scheme heterojunction was constructed for simultaneous removal of TC and Cu (II) from wastewater. The highly conductive rGO served as a bridge connecting the ZnTe and WO 3 whereby forming a tight interaction interface, beneficial to carriers transfer and separation. The removals of TC and Cu (II) using the optimized ZRW-10% achieved 90.6% and 89.5% within 150 min of light exposure, which were much higher than those from the ZnTe and WO 3 . Results of free radical trapping experiments and electron spin resonance analysis suggested that·O 2 - and·OH were the key active species for TC oxidation while e - dominated Cu (II) reduction. Based on the identified TC degradation intermediates, two possible degradation pathways for TC were proposed, and the ecotoxicity of most intermediates were less than TC. This study can advance research development of designing efficient Z-scheme photocatalyst and elimination of complex pollutants.
