γ-valerolactone (GVL), derived from biomass, is a crucial platform compound for biofuel synthesis and various industrial applications. Current methods for synthesizing GVL involve expensive catalysts and high-pressure hydrogen, prompting the search for greener alternatives. This study focuses on a novel zirconium phosphate (ZrP)-pillared zeolite MCM-36 derivative catalyst for converting levulinic acid (LA) to GVL using alcohol as a hydrogen source. The incorporation of ZrP significantly contributes to mesoporosity and greatly enhances the acidity of the catalysts. Additionally, we employed31P MAS NMR to comprehensively investigate the influence of phosphorus species on both the acidity and the catalytic conversion of LA to GVL. By adjusting the Zr-to-P ratios, we synthesized catalysts with enhanced acidity, achieving high conversion of LA and selectivity for GVL. The catalyst exhibited high recyclability, showing only minor deactivation over the course of five cycles. Furthermore, the catalyst was successfully applied to the one-pot conversion of furfural to GVL, showcasing its versatility in biomass conversion. This study highlights the potential of the MCM-ZrP1 catalyst for sustainable biomass conversion and offers insights for future research in renewable energy technologies.

All-inorganic perovskite quantum dots (PQDs) being characterized by high photoluminescence quantum yield, tunable emission colors and high color purity attract enormous attention in optoelectronic fields, especially as highly efficient narrow-band phosphors for lighting and next-generation display devices. However, poor stability seriously impedes their practical applications. Herein, we proposed an ion exchange/surface adsorption strategy to realize the room-temperature synthesis and stabilization of CsPbBr 3 PQDs on α-Zr(HPO 4 ) 2 ·H 2 O (zirconium phosphate, α-ZrP) nanosheets. The inherent characteristics of the α-ZrP nanosheets including high Pb 2+ adsorptivity and good Cs + ion exchange capability promoted the heterogeneous nucleation-growth and effective anchoring of CsPbBr 3 PQDs on α-ZrP surfaces. Consequently, the synthesized α-ZrP/CsPbBr 3 composite exhibited superior green-emitting performance and significantly enhanced humidity stability and thermal stability in comparison to pure PQDs and many other matrix-protected PQDs. All these favorable characteristics listed above endowed the α-ZrP/CsPbBr 3 composite with good optical properties for lighting and displays. This work opens up a new way to use inorganic nanomaterials to stabilize all-inorganic PQDs and can promote the scalable synthesis of PQDs with long-term stability for optoelectronic devices.

In this work, self-reporting corrosion inhibition coatings with long-term corrosion protection was prepared by different process means. The two-dimensional (2D) materials ZrP-NH 2 and Tannin@SiO 2 (TA@SiO 2 ) microcapsules were introduced into the epoxy resin (EP) coatings, and the Layered EP coatings (TA@SiO 2 layer coatings and ZrP-NH 2 layer coatings) and the Mixed EP coatings were prepared by layered spraying and mix spraying, respectively. In the pre-corrosion stage, the excellent barrier performance of the ZrP-NH 2 layer coating hinders the diffusion of corrosive media. In the later stages of corrosion, the TA@SiO 2 microcapsules in the TA@SiO 2 layer coating releases TA, which forms a TA-Fe 3+ passivation film with the metal substrate and confers the coating with a blue-violet self-reporting function. Furthermore, the synergistic corrosion inhibition mechanism of TA@SiO 2 layer coatings was investigated by DFT theoretical calculations and experiment. Meanwhile, the Layered EP coatings provide the triple functions of excellent physical barrier action, corrosion inhibition and self-reporting under high temperature and high salt conditions.

Antenna packaging, which is designed to protect electronic components and ensure long-term stability, often employs epoxy resin (EP) composites because high mechanical strength, low dielectric constant and ease of molding satisfy design requirements, yet the highly cross-linked molecular network which leads to poor fracture toughness. In this work, a lamellar aerogel scaffold with different exfoliation α-ZrP flakes was fabricated by the ultrasonic-assisted exfoliation and subsequent freeze-casting technique. An alternating-layered epoxy/α-ZrP composite was made by infiltrating epoxy resin into the aerogel scaffold. The layered epoxy/α-ZrP composite consists of 99 wt% epoxy, in contrast to the scaffold, which contains 1 wt% α-ZrP. It exhibits outstanding fracture toughness, 1.4 times that of neat epoxy, and demonstrates low dielectric constant due to the anisotropic α-ZrP aerogel scaffold, which can be used for antenna packaging. Further studies reveal the effect of exfoliation time on the dimensions and dispersion of α-ZrP flakes, as well as the mechanical properties of epoxy/α-ZrP composites. The crack propagation path and fracture morphology were observed by Optical Microscopy (OM) and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), based on which the toughening mechanisms of epoxy/α-ZrP layered composites were discussed.

Two-dimensional layered materials have attracted wide attention owing to their many desirable properties. In particular, its outstanding barrier properties can effectively improve the impermeability of organic polymer coatings. However, the barrier properties of the coating depend to a large extent on the dispersion and orientation of the nanosheets in the coating. Here, monoamine-capped poly(etheramine) is inserted into the synthesized α-zirconium phosphate (α-ZrP) to obtain water-dispersible nanosheets with regular shapes and controllable thicknesses. In addition, the effects of the orientation (random and parallel) of α-ZrP nanosheets on the permeability and corrosion resistance of waterborne epoxy coatings have been systematically studied, and the results are in good agreement with the theoretical model. Compared with the pure coating, the impedance of the coating with high aspect ratio nanosheets and the coating with high aspect ratio nanosheets arranged in parallel increased by 83.5 and 221.7 times, respectively, after immersion for 60 days. This provides a strategy and theoretical basis for the two-dimensional nanosheet to improve the long-term service of anticorrosion coatings.

Phase change materials (PCMs) have shown great application potential in sustainable energy utilization. The green preparation and efficient application are both focus of PCMs in research. In this paper, without any carbonized process under high temperature, bio-based sodium alginate (SA) and different content of ZrP nanosheets modified by PDA were used to prepare intrinsic framework materials (SA@ZrP) with sensitive lighting absorbance. Polyethylene glycol (PEG)/SA@ZrP with shape stability was fabricated via the vacuum impregnation method. Among them, CPCM5 (SA:PDA@ZrP = 50:50) exhibited excellent thermal storage and cycling stability. Compared with CPCM0 (SA:PDA@ZrP = 100:0), the melting enthalpy (159.8 J/g) and freezing enthalpy (159.3 J/g) of CPCM5 increased 16.8% and 15.4%, respectively. After 100 thermal cycles, there was no significant difference in the latent heat during meting (159.02 J/g) and freezing (157.36 J/g) process. Superior light-thermal performance of CPCM5 also performed during photothermal conversion. Therefore, with the environmentally friendly and low-cost prepared process while excellent thermal properties, PEG/SA@ZrP shows widen application prospects in the photothermal storage and conversion field. Efficient extraction of lithium from salt lake brines is critical to alleviating the global lithium resource shortage. In this study, a novel composite membrane was fabricated based on polyphenylene sulfide (PPS), polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), and zirconium hydrogen phosphate (ZrP) for selective lithium-magnesium separation via electrodialysis. The highly crystalline PPS matrix provided a compact and ordered polymer framework, contributing to selective ion transport by creating size-sieving channels that favor the passage of smaller Li⁺ over hydrated Mg²⁺. Meanwhile, the incorporated layered ZrP significantly enhanced the membrane’s hydrophilicity and offered additional pathways for facilitated lithium-ion conduction. Results demonstrated that the composite membrane exhibited remarkable stability during a prolonged 408-hour electrodialysis operation. The Li⁺/Mg²⁺ molar ratio in the cathode chamber increased dramatically from 0.08 to 2.62, representing an approximately 33-fold improvement in separation efficiency. Structural characterization confirmed the formation of high-purity magnesium hydroxide precipitate in the cathode chamber, validating the membrane’s high selectivity and stability. This study provides new insights into the design of high-performance ion-selective membranes for lithium resource recovery.

Fluoride ion contamination in water bodies poses a serious threat to human health, necessitating the urgent development of highly efficient adsorbents to mitigate fluoride pollution in drinking water. This study constructed a novel composite adsorbent material, ZrP@NC-X, by combining amorphous ZrP with porous carbon (NC) derived from calcined and etched ZIF-8. Benefiting from both the enhanced mass transfer and increased active site utilisation provided by NC, alongside the abundant adsorption sites offered by amorphous ZrP, ZrP@NC-3 achieves effective removal of fluoride ions from aqueous solutions. At a dosage of 1 g/L, adsorption equilibrium is reached within 200 min, with a maximum adsorption capacity of 24.08 mg/g. Furthermore, ZrP@NC-3 exhibits outstanding fluoride ion adsorption performance across a broad pH range of 3 to 7, maintaining high selectivity towards fluoride ions even in the presence of PO4 3− ,CO 3 2− ,HCO 3 − and SO 4 2− . Systematic characterisation and mechanistic analysis indicate that fluoride adsorption is primarily driven by electrostatic interactions with the ZrP@NC-3 surface and ligand exchange with hydroxyl groups on the ZrP surface. Consequently, the developed ZrP@NC-X material holds promise as an ideal candidate for highly efficient fluoride removal.

The exfoliation and uniform dispersion of two-dimensional nanofillers are significantly important to improve the comprehensive properties of silicone rubber including the tracking resistance and mechanical properties. Herein, tetrabutylammonium hydroxide-intercalated zirconium phosphate (M-ZrP) and urethane-containing silane (US) were incorporated into addition-cure liquid silicone rubber (ALSR). The interaction between US and M-ZrP and the dispersion of M-ZrP in ALSR were investigated. It was found that US contributed to the exfoliation and dispersion of M-ZrP in ALSR. M-ZrP and US synergistically improved the tracking resistance of ALSR. ALSR/US/M-ZrP containing 0.1 phr M-ZrP and 1.0 phr US classed 1A4.5 level, and the ratio of electrical eroded mass was only 0.11%. The effect of M-ZrP and US on the thermal degradation behavior of ALSR and the electrical erosion residue after inclined plane test were systematically studied. It was revealed that US and Karstedt’s catalyst (Pt) synergistically promoted silicone rubber to form ceramic layer under strong arc bombardment. Besides, the exfoliated M-ZrP nanosheets in ALSR served as barrier layer and support skeleton. When subjected to arc bombardment, a compact ceramic barrier formed on the ALSR/US/M-ZrP surface, which protected the internal matrix, thus significantly improved the tracking resistance of ALSR.

The conventional coating of reinforcing bars exhibits inadequate anti-corrosion efficacy stemming from a non-specific, blind protection mechanism, poses a threat to the durability of concrete. We devised a novel self-responsive functional filler, L-arginine (LA) intercalated zirconium phosphate (LCZrP), synthesized via an intercalation reaction. This innovative filler was seamlessly integrated into an epoxy (EP) resin matrix, yielding a smart anticorrosive coating that harmoniously combines active and passive corrosion protection strategies. The integration of LCZrP within the coating matrix serves a trifecta of purposes: it extends the corrosion propagation path, effectively disperses nanofiller agglomeration, and enhances interfacial adhesion with the epoxy coating. Critically, the controlled release of corrosion inhibitors from the interlayer further fortifies the coating's resistance to corrosion, imparting a multi-layered protective shield. After enduring a 60-day immersion in a simulated concrete pore solution, the LCZrP/EP coating demonstrated exceptional durability, maintaining a low-frequency impedance modulus value consistently within the range of 4.27×10 10 to 5.12×10 10 Ω·cm 2 , marking a remarkable 34-fold enhancement over the performance of the epoxy coating alone. This breakthrough underscores the LCZrP/EP coating's potential as a groundbreaking solution for reinforcing bar protection in concrete, harnessing the complementary strengths of epoxy resin's physical barrier, the impermeability of two-dimensional lamellar structures, and the proactive release of corrosion inhibitors to forge a robust, multi-faceted passivation layer.

This work describes the synthesis of a ZrP–C composite adsorbent using MOF-808 as a template via one-step, high-temperature carbonization. The adsorption performance of ZrP–C material toward fluoride ions was investigated as a function of time, solution concentration, temperature, pH, and coexisting anions. After 3 h, the ZrP–C-3 adsorbent achieved saturation in fluoride uptake, demonstrating a final uptake of 37 mg/g at equilibrium. Fit the adsorption process using kinetic and isothermal adsorption models. The study revealed that adsorption was dominated by monolayer chemical adsorption. Adsorption was found to be endothermic, according to thermodynamic studies, with higher temperatures favoring increased uptake. Combined XPS, XRD, and FT-IR studies revealed that ion exchange, surface complexation, and electrostatic interactions jointly governed fluoride removal. For low-concentration fluoride-containing water bodies, typically those with concentrations below 20 mg/L, adding an appropriate amount of adsorbent could effectively reduce the wastewater concentration to meet national standards. These results highlight the strong potential of ZrP–C-3 for practical applications in fluoride removal from wastewater.

The development of polyurethane composites with significant flame retardancy and corrosion resistance for widening its practical application is a great importance. In this study, supramolecular wrapped α-ZrP (MCP@ZrP) was prepared via self-assembly of melamine, cobalt ions (Co 2+ ) and phytic acid (PA) on the surfaces of α-zirconium phosphate (α-ZrP). It was found that both compatibility and dispersion of α-ZrP sheets in thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) matrices were improved with the incorporation of organic supramolecular components in TPU/MCP@ZrP nanocomposites. Moreover, their fire-retardant characteristic was significantly enhanced, along with effective suppression of smoke and toxic gas emission. By adding 5 wt% MCP@ZrP, peak heat release rate, total heat release, total smoke production, and total CO production of such nanocomposites were reduced by 35.66%, 18.01%, 15.52%, and 41.42%, respectively. The generation of a continuous and dense char layer benefited from well-dispersed MCP@ZrP nanohybrids, which resulted in tortuous effect to impede heat diffusion and prevent the evaporation of volatile gasses. By means of the barrier effect of ZrP, TPU/MCP@ZrP composite films also showed improved anticorrosion performance. Effective interfacial adhesion, achieved by combining MCP supermolecules and α-ZrP sheets, offers a viable approach to improve protective properties of TPU nanocomposites. Highlights Supramolecular-wrapped α-ZrP was prepared via self-assembly strategy. MCP@ZrP showed good dispersion and interface adhesion within TPU matrices. MCP@ZrP enhanced the flame retardancy and mechanical performance of TPU. MCP@ZrP preventing smoke and toxic gas evaporation.
