Achieving ultrahigh water evaporation using g-C3N4/MoS2/chitosan hydrogel@nickel foam evaporator with low enthalpy and optimized scallion-like structure

Zeen Xu,Xingyue Lei,Ru Jiang,Leihao Zhou,Shentao Jiang,Xianqiang Xiong,Qi Wang,Jianbing Li,Huayue Zhu

Scallion-inspired 3D CMC@NF evaporator was prepared. • Ultrahigh ER of 6.17 kg·m −2 ·h −1 achieved under 1-sun irradiation. • Evaporation enthalpy significantly reduced from 2415 to 828 kJ·kg −1 . • 3D CMC@NF exhibited excellent salt resistance and stable desalination. Due to its ease of operation and minimal environmental impact, solar-driven evaporation technology holds significant potential in addressing the worsening global water crisis. Inspired by the multi-layered coiled scallion, a 3D g-C 3 N 4 /MoS 2 /chitosan hydrogel@nickel foam (CMC@NF) evaporator was fabricated by decorating photothermal g-C 3 N 4 and MoS 2 , along with hydrophilic chitosan onto porous 3D nickel foam. Remarkably, water evaporation enthalpy decreased significantly from 2415 to 828 kJ·kg −1 due to the presence of hydrophilic chitosan. The multi-layered coiled structure of the scallion-like CMC@NF-2 enhances solar reflection and refraction, and enlarges the water evaporation area through its hierarchical interfacial design. Leveraging synergistic material advantages and optimized geometric configuration, the CMC@NF-2 evaporator attained an ultrahigh water evaporation rate of 6.17 kg·m −2 ·h −1 (normalized to the top-irradiation projected area). The CMC@NF-2 system also exhibited outstanding outdoor water evaporation of 74.54 kg·m −2 ·d −1 , an output adequate to satisfy the daily water requirements of 23 adults (based on a standard of 3.2 L·person −1 ·day −1 ). This study significantly enhances the capabilities of existing solar desalination techniques for delivering portable, cost-effective freshwater supplies, and simultaneously provides a thorough physical interpretation and actionable optimization frameworks for CMC@NF-2 systems. Unique synergistic effects of ternary multi-dimensional CNT/g-C3N4/MoS2 hybrid as a paraffin oil additive for improved tribological properties

Jiejie Huang,Chunying Min,Zhaolong Sun,Hang Yu,Hongyu Liang

Graphitic carbon nitride (g-C 3 N 4 ) nanomaterials have drawn much interest in the lubrication and friction fields owing to their excellent self-lubrication and mechanical performances. However, the easy agglomeration and poor dispersion stability of single g-C 3 N 4 (CN) have always been a headache. In the work, multi-dimensional ternary carbon nanotube, graphite carbon nitride, and molybdenum disulfide (CNT, CN, and MoS 2 ) hybrids were fabricated by hydrothermal method. The microstructure and its reinforcement impact on the tribological properties of the corresponding paraffin oil were systematically studied. The results showed that the zero-dimensional spherical MoS 2 , one-dimensional tubular CNT, and two-dimensional lamellar CN are uniformly compounded. The tribological test results display that average friction coefficient and wear rate of the 0.2   wt% CNT/CN/MoS 2 are decreased by 39.23% and 91.97% lower than those of pure paraffin oil, CNT and CN/MoS 2 with the same concentration, respectively. The significantly improved tribological properties of lubricating oil is ascribed to even dispersion of CNT, CN, MoS 2 in CNT/CN/MoS 2 hybrids, self-lubricating effect of MoS 2 and CN, and load-bearing ability of CNT and CN nanosheets, and also the generation of lubricating film between friction pairs during the wear process.

Photoelectrochemical Water Separation and Dye Degradation Catalyzed by g-C3N4/MoS2 Nanosheets Doped with V2+ Metal Ions Coated on TiO2 Nanorods

Velusamy Periyasamy,Shanhu Liu,M. Sathiya,Awais Ahmad,Elangovan Elamurugu,Asma A Alothman,Mohammad Sheikh Saleh Mushab,Fuchun Zhang,Xinghui Liu

Photoelectrochemical (PEC) systems are inefficient, probably due to charge carrier mobility, recombination rate, and solar light absorption. Fabricating semiconductor-metal sulfide nanocomposites and nanostructured materials can improve the absorption of solar radiation, electron–hole separation, transport, and hydrogen (H2) and oxygen generation to resolve the world’s energy dilemma. The vanadium-doped (V) layered graphitic carbon nitride (g-CN)/MoS2 (MS) nanocomposite was synthesized employing two-step solvent evaporation and thermal condensation. This multilayer V-doped g-CN/MS nanocomposite broke down methyl red dye in 60 min under sunlight. Due to visible light absorption, the V-doped g-CN-MS nanostructure degrades the dye by 97.84%. We found that at 3.0 wt % V-doped g-CN/MS coated on TiO2 nanorods. The catalyst nanocomposites displayed a high photocurrent density of 23.72 mA cm–2 and a H2 production rate of 4477 mol h–1 cm–2. Additionally, the microstructure, optical absorption behavior, and electrical conductivity were all shown to contribute to these impressive PEC characteristics. The V-modified g-CN/MS nanocomposite structures are effective and regulated PEC catalysts, and this study suggests ways to improve PEC water splitting and degradation.

Visible Light-Based Ag3PO4/g-C3N4@MoS2 for Highly Efficient Degradation of 2-Amino-4-acetylaminoanisole (AMA) from Printing and Dyeing Wastewater

Hong Liu,Houwang Chen,Ning Ding

In this research, the preparation of a Ag3PO4/g-C3N4@MoS2photocatalyst and the performance and mechanism of degradation of 2-amino-4-acetaminoanisole (AMA) were studied. The phase composition and morphology of the synthesized samples were comprehensively characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), ultraviolet–visible diffuse reflectance (UV–Vis), and photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The catalytic performance of the photocatalyst was evaluated by the visible-light catalytic degradation of the AMA. The experimental results show that the Ag3PO4/g-C3N4@MoS2composite photocatalyst has stronger photocatalytic oxidation and reduction capabilities than Ag3PO4and Ag3PO4/g-C3N4. The material only decreases by 31.3% after five cycles of use, indicating that the material has good light stability. Free radical capture experiments prove that photo-generated holes (h+) and superoxide radicals (·O2−) are the main active substances in the photocatalytic process. The fundamental studies in the present research provide a new perspective for constructing an innovative type of visible-light photocatalyst and a new way to promote the photocatalytic degradation of organic pollutants.Keywords:catalysis;degradation;nanomaterials;Ag3PO4;heterojunction formation
