Mg-Zn-Fe LDH was anchored on phosphate-modified reed straw biochar. • Mg 1 Zn 1 Fe-LDH@PBC reached a surface area of 394.466 m 2 g −1 . • The adsorbent efficiently removed RhB, MO, and OTC from water. • Maximum RhB adsorption capacity reached 659.2 mg g −1 . • Removal efficiency remained around 70% after five cycles. Sustainable conversion of waste biomass into high-performance adsorbents provides an effective route for organic wastewater remediation. In this study, phosphate-modified reed straw biochar-supported layered double hydroxide composites (LDH@PBC) were synthesized via a facile co-precipitation method. Binary and ternary LDHs containing Mg 2+ , Zn 2+ , and Fe 3+ were constructed on the biochar matrix, and their adsorption performance toward rhodamine B (RhB), methyl orange (MO), and oxytetracycline (OTC) was systematically evaluated. The optimized Mg 1 Zn 1 Fe-LDH@PBC exhibited a well-developed porous structure, abundant surface functional groups, and the highest specific surface area of 394.466 m 2 g −1 . Owing to the synergistic effects of phosphate-modified biochar and Mg-Zn-Fe LDH nanosheets, the composite maintained stable adsorption efficiency over a broad pH range. The optimized Mg 1 Zn 1 Fe-LDH@PBC achieved a maximum experimental RhB adsorption capacity of 659.2 mg g −1 under the optimized dosage condition. In contrast, Langmuir isotherm fitting gave theoretical maximum monolayer adsorption capacities of 944.898, 696.552, and 303.146 mg g −1 for RhB, MO, and OTC at 298 K, respectively. Kinetic and isotherm analyses suggested that the adsorption process may be associated with multiple interactions, including electrostatic attraction, ion exchange, hydrogen bonding, π–π interactions, and possible surface complexation. In addition, the removal efficiency remained around 70% after four adsorption–desorption cycles, indicating favorable reusability. This work highlights a promising biomass-derived LDH/biochar adsorbent for efficient and sustainable removal of multiple organic pollutants from water.

In this paper, a novel, selective and eco-friendly biosensor has been fabricated and applied for sensitive detection of antibiotic oxytetracycline (OTC). This fluorescent biosensor was based on carbon quantum dots (CDs), H 2 O 2 and Fe 3 O 4 magnetic nanoparticles (Fe 3 O 4 MNPs). Herein, we firstly demonstrated that the fluorescence of CDs decreased apparently in the presence of OTC, H 2 O 2 and Fe 3 O 4 MNPs. The fluorescence quenching of CDs not only is caused by the hydroxyl radical produced from the Fenton reaction and complexation of Fe 3 O 4 MNPs with OTC, but also might be related to the inner filter effect (IFE) between CDs and OTC, which improved the selectivity and sensitivity of the fabricated biosensor. Under the optimal experiment conditions, the relative fluorescence intensity of the CDs decreased linearly with the increasing concentration of OTC from 25 nM to 1.75 μM. The detection limit of the fabricated biosensor on OTC was 9.5 nM at a signal-to-noise ratio of 3. Compared with other current protocols, the method described here displayed a few advantages including simplicity, low cost and rapid detection. The precision and reproducibility of the proposed sensor were also acceptable Significantly, the practicality of this sensitive sensor for OTC detection in drugs was further validated, revealing the advantages of high simplicity, sensitivity and selectivity. Hence, the developed biosensor might provide a useful and practical tool for OTC determination and related food safety analysis and clinical diagnosis.

The investigation about the mechanism of crystal plane regulation on the generation of oxygen vacancies remains a challenge. In this paper, BiOBr/FeMoO 4 composites were synthesized by precise control of crystal plane growth, and it exhibited the enhanced concentration of oxygen vacancies due to lower formation energy of oxygen vacancies. The composite performs higher photo-Fenton-like ability for degrading oxytetracycline hydrochloride (OTC). Structural analyses and theoretical calculations reveal that crystal plane regulation induces significant changes in oxygen vacancy concentration. The BiOBr/FeMoO 4 /peroxydisulphate (PDS) /light system, which dominated by the non-radical pathway, degraded 96.8 % ± 1.0 % of OTC within 30 min. The activation mechanism of the system and the degradation pathway of OTC were elucidated. The intermediates in the degradation process of OTC were evaluated using liquid chromatograph-mass spectrometer (LC-MS), toxicity evaluation software tool (T.E.S.T) and soybean germination experiments. This work offers novel insights into the pivotal role of crystal plane directional regulation in the quantitative generation of oxygen vacancies.
