The fungicide pyraclostrobin is highly toxic to aquatic organisms. Microencapsulation is an effective way to reduce the exposure of pyraclostrobin to aquatic organisms but it also reduces the contact probability between the fungicide and plant pathogens. Hence, winning a balance between the toxicity and bioactivity of pyraclostrobin is very necessary. In this study, triethylenetetramine (TETA), ethylenediamine (EDA), hexamethylenediamine (HAD), and isophoronediamine (IPDA) were selected as cross-linkers to prepare the pyraclostrobin-loaded polyurea microcapsules (PU-MCs) by interfacial polymerization. TETA formed the shells with the highest degree of cross-linking, the slowest release profile, and the best protection against ultraviolet (UV). In terms of MCs fabricated by diamines, higher leaking, weaker UV resistance of the shells was observed with increasing carbon skeleton. TETA-MCs showed the highest safety to zebrafish (LC50 of 10.086 mg/L), whereas EDA-MCs, HAD-MCs, and IPDA-MCs were 5.342, 3.967, and 0.767 mg/L, respectively. TETA-MCs had the best long-term disease management, while the control efficacies of other MCs were higher at the early stage of disease development. Overall, a balance between the aquatic toxicities and fungicidal activities of pyraclostrobin-loaded PU-MCs could be reached through a simple selection of polyamines in the fabrication.

Nanoemulsion provides an effective way for the efficient, safe, and environmentally friendly use of pesticides. In this study, the influence of different type emulsifiers on the formation and stability of nanoemulsion were tested and an optimal pyraclostrobin nanoemulsion with long-term stability was obtained. Pyraclostrobin (2.5 %), #602 (phenylethyl phenol polyoxyethylene ether, 6 %), and #600 P (tristyryl- phenol polyoxyethylene ether phosphate, 2 %) were dissolved in methyl benzoate (2.5 %) and co-emulsifier ethanol (20 %) with deionized water replenished to 100 %. Compared with microemulsion (ME), the nanoemulsion using a lower dosage of emulsifier kept the system stable for a long time, reducing pollution of the environment. Compared with the commercial ME and suspension concentrate (SC), the nanoemulsion had a lower contact angle and surface tension, and higher maximum retention. In addition, adding 0.01 % AEO-3 (dodecyl alcohol polyol ethylene ether) to the dilution of nanoemulsion can significantly improve the target deposition of the nanoemulsion and improve the utilization rate of the pesticide. Besides, the use of methyl benzoate, an environmentally friendly solvent, resulted in the nanoemulsion with high bactericidal activity and low acute toxicity to zebrafish, thus reducing the environmental pollution of such chemicals.

Traditional agrochemicals suffer from low utilization rates and high environmental exposure levels, posing threats to ecosystem security and limiting their practical application. Wheat stem rot is one of the world's major agricultural diseases caused by Fusarium pseudograminearum , which mainly affects the stem base of wheat. Improving the agent's deposition distribution and duration of action in the wheat rhizome is critical when applied through foliar spray or root application.to control this disease. Stimuli-responsive delivery systems can provide more effective crop protection while improving the safety of pesticides for non-target organisms and the environment. In this study, we developed pectin-modified pyraclostrobin nanocapsules (NCS@Pec) exhibiting dual responsiveness to pH and pectinase. Compared to conventional nanoemulsion (NEW), NCS@Pec demonstrated superior adhesion to wheat surfaces with 2.86-fold enhanced rainfastness. Root application reduced pyraclostrobin translocation to leaves while prolonging rhizosphere activity. At 14 days post-treatment, NCS@Pec maintained approximately 68% control efficacy. In addition, the selectivity coefficients of NCS@Pec between F. pseudograminearum and zebrafish were 2.67 and 7.09, significantly reducing environmental risks to aquatic life while maintaining fungicidal activity. These findings advance the application of carbohydrate polymers such as pectin in nanopesticide development and contribute to novel bioactive agent design and food security enhancement.

The development of pesticide-loaded nanocapsules responding to environmental stimuli holds great promise for sustainable disease control and may help to reduce pesticide usage while making it more efficient. Herein, pH-responsive nanocapsules containing pyraclostrobin (Pyr) were constructed by the rapid interfacial assembly of tannic acid (TA), ethylene oxide-propylene oxide block copolymer , and Cu 2+ ions using a fine reversed-phase emulsion as a template. Under acidic conditions similar to those caused by Rhizoctonia solani infestation, these nanocapsules released Pyr to achieve its intelligent delivery and, hence, efficient R. solani control. Nanoencapsulation significantly increased the photostability of Pyr, and the half-life increased by 10 times compared with the Pyr-technical (Pyr-TC). In addition, the introduction of TA enhanced its spreading performance and rainfall resistance in crops, and contact angle drops to 2.2° ± 0.1° in 100 s. Its toxicity to non-target organisms ( Daphnia magna and humans) was reduced. The fabricated nanocapsules exhibited a high antifungal activity superior to that of commercially available agents and exerted no significant adverse effects on crop growth and soil microbial communities . Thus, our work highlights the potential of nanoencapsulation for the intelligent delivery of fungicides to target crops, thus providing an effective strategy for improving the efficiency of pesticide usage and promoting sustainable pesticide development.

To combat fungal plant diseases and induce plant resistance, this study employed w/o/w double emulsion technology to fabricate composite microcapsules using poly(lactide-co-glycolide) and hydroxypropyl methylcellulose phthalate as wall materials, coencapsulating pyraclostrobin of the outer layer and plant hormone 24-epibrassinolide of the inner layer. The microcapsules exhibited an average particle size of 2.12 μm, pyraclostrobin encapsulation efficiency (EE) of 74.1%, and 24-epibrassinolide EE of 64.8%. Cumulative release profiles showed 62% pyraclostrobin release at 10 h, reaching a maximum of 82% by 72 h, while 24-epibrassinolide achieved 52% release at 10 h and 60% by 48 h. Compared with the technical pyraclostrobin, the microcapsules significantly enhanced the photostability of 24-epibrassinolide by 4.36-fold, thereby facilitating the long-term utilization of active ingredients. The microcapsule formulations exhibited superior control efficacy against rice leaf blast and significantly reduced acute toxicity to zebrafish (20-fold higher LC50 than technical).

Microencapsulated suspensions (MEs) are widely used in agriculture for their enhanced pesticide efficacy and minimal environmental impact. However, their release mechanisms and associated risks remain insufficiently explored. This study investigated the release, environmental fate, and risks of pyraclostrobin MEs using HPLC-Q-TOF-HRMS and UPLC-QqQ-MS/MS. Field experiments showed only 3.6% of pyraclostrobin was in free state in water, with most encapsulated in microcapsules that settled in sediment. Seventeen transformation products were identified, primarily accumulating in sediment. Predictions of persistence (P), bioaccumulation (B), mobility (M), and toxicity (T) revealed eight highly mobile and four highly toxic metabolites. Metabolites m/z 281 and m/z 339 showed significant chronic toxicity to daphnia, surpassing pyraclostrobin toxicity. Risk quotient analysis indicated that m/z 358 and m/z 611 posed a moderate risk to daphnia and mysid. The study highlights the importance of evaluating MEs, focusing on their release mechanisms and ecological risks to ensure safe pesticide use.

Lignin, renowned for its renewable, biocompatible, and environmentally benign characteristics, holds immense potential as a sustainable feedstock for agrochemical formulations. In this study, raw dealkaline lignin (DAL) underwent a purification process involving two sequential solvent extractions . Subsequently, an enzyme-responsive nanodelivery system (Pyr@DAL-NPs), was fabricated through the solvent self-assembly method, with pyraclostrobin (Pyr) loaded into lignin nanoparticles . The Pyr@DAL-NPs shown an average particle size of 250.4 nm, demonstrating a remarkable loading capacity of up to 54.70 % and an encapsulation efficiency of 86.15 %. Notably, in the presence of cellulase and pectinase at a concentration of 2 mg/mL, the release of Pyr from the Pyr@DAL-NPs reached 92.66 % within 120 h. Furthermore, the photostability of Pyr@DAL-NPs was significantly improved, revealing a 2.92-fold enhancement compared to the commercially available fungicide suspension (Pyr SC). Bioassay results exhibited that the Pyr@DAL-NPs revealed superior fungicidal activity against Botrytis cinerea over Pyr SC, with an EC 50 value of 0.951 mg/L. Additionally, biosafety assessments indicated that the Pyr@DAL-NPs effectively declined the acute toxicity of Pyr towards zebrafish and posed no negative effects on the healthy growth of strawberry plants. In conclusion, this study presents a viable and promising strategy for developing environmentally friendly controlled-release systems for pesticides, offering the unique properties of lignin.

Controlled-release nanopesticides based on metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) have aroused broad interests. PCN-777, the Zr-MOF with the largest mesopores, can host the bulky broad-spectrum fungicide pyraclostrobin (Pyr). Nanoscale PCN-777 was prepared and then capped with pectin and chitosan through coordination interactions and electrostatic interactions/hydrogen bonds, respectively, to create double-gated nanofungicides. The double gatekeepers had substantial capping effect to inhibit early release of Pyr. The loading capacity of Pyr reached 25.9 % due to the large mesopores of PCN-777, higher than those in other Pyr-loaded MOF nanofungicides. The smart nanofungicides achieved the pH-, pectinase-, phosphate-, phytic acid-responsive controlled release of Pyr, which is closely associated with the physiological factors of pathogens and plants, and these stimuli-responsive mechanisms were explicitly elaborated. The nanofungicides protected Pyr from UV photolysis thanks to the shielding effect of PCN-777 organic ligands. The nanofungicides showed good fungicidal activity against fungi Fusarium graminearum (wheat head blight) and control effect of wheat powdery mildew triggered by Erysiphe graminis through foliar spray and seed coating, in comparison with commercial pesticide formulations. In terms of target plant growth biosafety, the nanofungicides improved wheat seed germination, seedling emergence, and seedling height by 10 %, 13 %, and 5 %, respectively, relative to the commercial formulation. In terms of non-target organism biosafety, the median lethal concentrations of the nanofungicides toward zebrafish were 3.6–5.7 times those of the commercial formulation, besides honeybees and human normal cells. The smart controlled-release nanofungicides have good prospective applications in the sustainable increase of agricultural products.

The combined application of difenoconazole and pyraclostrobin is a common strategy to combat early blight in potatoes; however, a comprehensive understanding of their co-residue behavior and associated dietary risks remains limited. In this study, a modified QuEChERS method coupled with ultra-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS) was developed and validated for the simultaneous determination of difenoconazole and pyraclostrobin residues in potatoes. The calibration curves showed excellent linearity over the concentration range of 0.002–0.2 mg/L. At fortification levels of 0.02, 0.2, and 2 mg/kg, the average recoveries of difenoconazole ranged from 94.8 to 100.4%, with relative standard deviations (RSDs) of 0.56–1.81%; the average recoveries of pyraclostrobin ranged from 95.2 to 99.8%, with RSDs of 0.97–1.62%. The limit of quantification (LOQ) of both compounds was 0.02 mg/kg, and the instrumental limit of detection (LOD) was 2.00 × 10 g. This sensitivity is substantially better than that of conventional HPLC-UV methods (which typically exhibit LODs around 10−9 g), and the LOQ aligns with the maximum residue limit (MRL) of 0.02 mg/kg established in China. Dietary risk assessment indicated that the risk quotients (RQs) were 0.993 and 0.956 for difenoconazole and pyraclostrobin, respectively, demonstrating that the health risks to consumers are acceptable.

Determination of pyraclostrobin in ginseng samples by molecularly imprinted dispersive solid-phase extraction (MIDSPE) coupled with high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) method was developed. Molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) were prepared by precipitation polymerization using pyraclostrobin as template, methacrylic acid (MAA) as functional monomer, ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (EGDMA) and azobisisobutyronitrile (AIBN) as cross-linker and initiator, respectively. The mixture of butanone (MEK) and n -heptane (7:3, V:V) was used as solvent and porogen. The microspheres were characterized by laser particle size analyzer, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Fourier transform infrared spectrometry (FTIR). Binding experiments showed high binding capacity of polymers, and that the maximum adsorption of MIPs and NIPs to pyraclostrobin was 73.01 mg g −1 and 59.14 mg g −1 . Selective adsorption experiments verified that polymers had specific and selective recognition site for pyraclostrobin. Comparing MIPs with C 18 , the recoveries of pyraclostrobin from blank ginseng samples spiked at 0.05, 0.1, and 1.0 mg kg −1 ranged between 77.6% and 93.5% with the standard deviation of 2.18–6.07 and the relative standard deviations (RSDs) between 2.47 and 6.99% ( n = 5). The recoveries of pyraclostrobin that used C 18 as sorbent were found to be 53.04–63.86% with the standard deviation of 1.13–2.83 and the relative standard deviations of 1.07–4.99%. The data indicated that the method for the analysis of the pyraclostrobin in ginseng samples can achieve good recoveries, repeatability and reproducibility. The linear regression equation was calculated as y = 2.09935e−006 x + 0.0176235 ( R 2 = 0.998656). The limit of detection (LOD, S/N = 3) was 0.01 mg kg −1 . The confidence interval for the slope at the 95% confidence level was [356084.1828, 899542.8563], and the confidence interval for the intercept was [− 755349.2710, 72645.0856]. The MIDSPE-HPLC method showed specific selective separation and enrichment of trace pyraclostrobin in ginseng samples. The raw samples were tested and results were all below the maximum Residue Limit (MRL) 0.1 mg kg −1 in the European Union.

The low bioavailability of pesticides has resulted in serious resource waste, environmental pollution, and potential threats to human health. Polymeric micelles for the delivery of pesticides can obviously reduce the drift, and photolysis as well as the risks of poisoning during the application of pesticides. Herein, an amphiphilic polymer, octaneacylhydrazone propylcellulose pyruvate (OPP), was prepared by conjugating octanehydrazide with propylcellulose pyruvate and used as a micellar carrier to improve the utilization efficiency of pyraclostrobin (PYR). The results showed that OPP exhibited a lower critical micelle concentration (9.99 mg/L) than classical surfactant Tween. The prepared PYR-loaded OPP micelles (POM) exhibited excellent pH and cellulase dual responsive release properties with a pesticide loading rate of 8.94%, which could efficiently prevent PYR from photolysis to prolong the effective duration. The fungicidal activities of POM against Sclerotinia sclerotiorum and Botrytis cinerea were better than that of PYR in vitro and in vivo . Furthermore, the acute toxicity of POM to zebrafish was decreased more than eleven-fold compared with that of PYR technical. Therefore, the prepared POM with excellent fungicidal activities may be a potential alternative to conventional formulations of PYR, and OPP would be used as a promising polymeric carrier for the highly efficient delivery of pesticides.

The elimination of pyraclostrobin by simultaneous microbial degradation and Fenton oxidation was achieved in a microbial fuel cell (MFC) system. After 12 h of incubation, the removal rate of pyraclostrobin was 1.4 mg/L/h at the anode and 1.7 mg/L/h at the cathode. The pyraclostrobin concentration was less than the detection limit (0.1 mg/L) after 72 h at the anode and 24 h at the cathode. The air flow rate, temperature, and pH of the catholyte had significant effects on the generation of H 2 O 2 . The maximum production of H 2 O 2 was 1.2 mg/L after reaction for 20 h during the Fenton process. Microbial community analysis indicated that functional bacteria in the genera Chryseobacterium , Stenotrophomonas , Arcobacter , and Comamonas were predominant in the anodic biofilm. In conclusion, the MFC-Fenton system provides an effective approach for treating environmental contaminants.
