Polydopamine-Assisted In Situ Growth of AgNPs on Face Masks for the Detection of Pesticide Based on Surface-Enhanced Raman Scattering Spectroscopy

Wang Tongtong,Zhang Qijia,Li Jia,Xu Guangda,Guo Na,Song Peng,Xia Lixin

Thiram is used as a fungicide and insecticide in agriculture to prevent white rot and anthracnose, but it also produces certain pesticide residues that endanger human health. Polydopamine (PDA) is an adhesive polymer that functionalizes almost all chemical materials, having been inspired by the adhesive properties of catechol and amines in mussel adhesive protein. In this work, we have fabricated a highly sensitive face mask (FM)–based surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) substrate by depositing silver nanoparticles (AgNPs), using a PDA layer as an interface to promote adhesion. Face masks are currently ubiquitous, and are simple and easy to obtain, and this approach can be regarded as waste utilization. FM/PDA/AgNPs can detect Nile blue A (NBA) probe molecules at concentrations as low as 1.0 × 10 −9  M, and permit measurements with sensitivity and uniformity. The Raman substrate can be used to swab the surface of fruit to detect thiram at concentrations as low as 1.0 × 10 −7  M, and the reproducibility has been assessed. The simple utilization of this flexible SERS substrate holds promise for its practical application in the field of pesticide control.

Yaodi Zhu,Weijia Liu,Shijie Liu,Miaoyun Li,Lijun Zhao,Lina Xu,Na Wang,Gaiming Zhao,Qiuying Yu

In this study, we developed a novel and sensitive AgNPs self-assembled solid-phase (AgNPs-SASP) SERS substrate platform using seed-mediated and liquid interface self-assembly methods and applied the platform for the detection of three bacterial spores. Multivariate statistical analysis (HCA and LDA) were employed for identification and categorization of the obtained data. The results illustrated that AgNPs-SASP exhibited high reproducibility and Raman enhancement effect (1.43 × 10 4 ). The Raman shift bands of the three bacterial spores ranged from 400 to 1800 cm −1 demonstrating the difference in reigon and intensity. And the intensities of their Ca 2+ -DPA Raman bands are significantly different. HCA results revealed that the spectra for the three bacterial spores were statistically different while LDA completely differentiated the spectra for the three bacterial spores with 100 % sensitivity and specificity. Overall, the novel SERS platform based on AgNPs-SASP provides an effective tool for food safety risk control and detection.

An electrochemiluminescence immunosensor based on ABEI-GO-AgNPs as a double-amplified luminophore for the ultra-sensitive detection of prostate-specific antigen

Zhi Luo,Dongmiao Qin,Yusheng Wu,Shuo Meng,Weiming Mo,Biyang Deng

A sandwich electrochemiluminescence (ECL) immunosensor based on an N-(4-aminobutyl)-N-ethylisoluminol-graphene oxide-Ag nanoparticle (ABEI-GO-AgNPs) complex and cysteine silver nanowires (AgCysNWs) was prepared to detect prostate-specific antigen (PSA). Our results showed that an ECL signal probe, ABEI-GO-AgNPs, with an ultrahigh specific surface area, favorable catalytic properties, and electrical conductivity was prepared by a one-step synthesis method. ABEI-GO-AgNPs with good biocompatibility immobilized secondary antibody (Ab 2 ) via Ag N bonds. Furthermore, AgCysNWs containing many –COOH groups were prepared and used to enrich primary antibody (Ab 1 ), which could be used as an affinity probe for the selective capture of PSA. Lastly, through layer-by-layer assembly, we established an ECL immunosensing platform for the sensitive detection of PSA. Under the optimized conditions, the designed ECL immunosensor showed promising sensitivity and selectivity for the detection of PSA in the linear range of 5.5 × 10 −7 –5.5 ng/mL, with a detection limit of 1.2 × 10 −7 ng/mL. The constructed ECL sensing platform possessed good specificity, reproducibility, and stability and could detect PSA in actual human serum samples.

A new electrochemical aptasensor for ultrasensitive detection of endotoxin using Fe-MOF and AgNPs decorated P-N-CNTs as signal enhanced indicator

Zhaode Mu,Jiangman Tian,Jie Wang,Jing Zhou,Lijuan Bai

Sensitive detection of endotoxin is especially critical in the fields of food security, therapeutics and medical science. In this work, a new sandwich-type electrochemical aptasensor was designed for ultrasensitive detection of endotoxin. For the first time, nitrogen-doped carbon nanotubes (N-CNTs) was functionalized with polydiallyldimethylammonium chloride (PDDA), forming P-N-CNTs nanocomposite. Then, Fe-based metal–organic framework (Fe-MOF) and silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) was decorated with P-N-CNTs to form the MOF/Ag-P-N-CNTs nanohybrid, which was employed as an enhanced signal indicator, not only exhibited outstanding electrochemical activity, but also could directly label with thiol-modified signal probes (TSPs) to form tracer label. Additionally, the avidin–biotin recognition system was introduced to increase the amount of biotin-modified capture probes (BCPs). Differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) was utilized to investigate the detection performances of the proposed aptasensor, which suggested a wide linear range from 1 fg/mL to 100 ng/mL with a low detection limit of 0.55 fg/mL toward endotoxin.

Rapid bacteria capturing and killing by AgNPs/N-CD@ZnO hybrids strengthened photo-responsive xerogel for rapid healing of bacteria-infected wounds

Bo Huang,Xiangmei Liu,Zhaoyang Li,Yufeng Zheng,Kelvin Wai Kwok Yeung,Zhenduo Cui,Yanqin Liang,Shengli Zhu,Shuilin Wu

Rapid bacteria killing and tissue repair are critical for the fast healing of bacteria-infected wounds, especially under poor sanitation without antibiotics. Herein, we prepared a novel xerogel constructed by thioether as a main chain and embedded by Ag nanoparticles (NPs) and ZnO NPs decorated by N-doped carbon dots (N-CD@ZnO). This hybrid xerogel not only has good mechanical properties without swelling but also has the ability to capture bacteria rapidly by the disulfide group through electrostatic interaction. Under 808 nm near-infrared (NIR) light irradiation for 15 min, this hybrid xerogel killed 99.9% Escherichia   coli   and 99.85% Staphylococcus aureus by the synergistic action of released Ag + and reactive oxygen species (ROS) produced by N-CD@ZnO using up-conversion technology (N-CD reduces the biotoxicity of ZnO and changes its photocatalytic response region from the 368 nm ultraviolet (UV) region to the 808 nm NIR region). In addition, the biotoxicity of Ag + is limited by the Ag-S covalent bond, which ensures good biocompatibility for the xerogel. Finally, in wound repair experiments in vivo , this xerogel is able to completely repair the wound within 10 days. This work will open up a new avenue for xerogel antibacterial materials.

AgNPs@Dopamine@BN/Chitosan nanopaper for a novel soft actuator: Dual thermal/electrical triggered shape memory, efficient flame retardancy and thermal management

Zhang Zhaoxin,Dong Xiang,Dai Guo-wei,Rong Caiyu,Ma Yan,Zhao Gaoxiang,Zhang Jiayi,Wei Jiahao,Lin Zixin,Nie Shibin,Tian Konghu

Currently, chitosan (CS)-based shape memory materials typically require the incorporation of reversible phases, which impair CS’s intrinsic properties. This study proposed a facile strategy to solve this problem: replacing the traditional organic reversible phases with novel functional inorganic nanomaterials. Hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) nanosheets were modified with silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) and then used to fabricate the AgNPs@dopamine@BN/chitosan nanopaper (BDAC), a dual thermal- and electrical-triggered shape memory nanocomposite. The results show that BDAC-1 has a thermal conductivity of 1.38 W/(mK)—a 138% increase compared to neat CS—and a good electrical conductivity of 35.6 S/cm. A triple-folded BDAC-1 sample (1 × 4 cm²) fully recovered to a flat state in 43 s on a 120 °C heating platform, reaching 91.5 °C internally. Under 8.5 V, it achieved full shape recovery in 132 s, with an internal temperature of 96.7 °C. The peak heat release rate (pHRR) of BDAC-1 is only 21.4 W/g, which has decreased by 39.5% compared with the neat CS, revealing significantly improved flame retardancy. In addition, BDAC presents high-efficient thermal management performance, which alleviates the risks of heat accumulation and fire. Furthermore, we demonstrated the versatile applicability of BDAC by integrating it into thermal/electrical dual-triggered hierarchical alarm devices and micro-mechanical grippers, highlighting the exceptional application potential of this high-performance soft actuator.

Electrochemical Immunosensor for the Determination of Nuclear Matrix Protein 22 in Urine Using Carboxylated MWCNTs and Zeolitic Imidazolate Framework Modified with AgNPs

Dandan Wang,Lixia Luo,Daoting Deng,Guoao Gong,Jiangyang Qin,Ke Cai,Yingying Gu,Yong Mei

Nuclear matrix protein 22 (NMP22) is considered one of the noninvasive biological indications in the urine that has recently captured extensive clinical attention for bladder cancer screening and surveillance. Hence, it is imperative to create a straightforward, sensitive, and precise NMP22 assay. As a type of carbon nanomaterial, carboxylated multiwalled carbon nanotubes (CMWCNTs) exhibit exceptional electrical conductivity and abundant carboxyl groups. The silver nanoparticles and zeolitic imidazolate frameworks-8 composite (AgNPs-ZIF-8), which is a three-dimensional material, possess a wide surface area, acceptable electrical conductivity, and satisfactory biocompatibility. More importantly, it can also immobilize NMP22 antibodies in striking amounts via the Ag–NH2 bonds. Along these lines, in this work, AgNPs were decorated on ZIF-8 and modified on the glassy carbon electrode together with CMWCNTs. The comparative advantages of carbon nanotubes, metal–organic frameworks, and AgNPs were successfully combined to develop an electrochemical immunosensor with superior sensitivity and reliability for the detection of NMP22 in urine. It should be mentioned that the immunosensor not only has a wide linear range (10–2 to 105 pg mL–1) and a low detection limit (8.8 fg mL–1, S/N = 3) but also exhibits robust precision, excellent selectivity, and desirable stability. Aside from that, the immunosensor was effectively utilized to detect human urine samples, demonstrating an excellent performance.

Electrostatic Assemblies of Well-Dispersed AgNPs on the Surface of Electrospun Nanofibers as Highly Active SERS Substrates for Wide-Range pH Sensing

Tong Yang,Jun Ma,Shu Jun Zhen,Cheng Zhi Huang

Surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) has shown high promise in analysis and bioanalysis, wherein noble metal nanoparticles (NMNPs) such as silver nanoparticles were employed as substrates because of their strong localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) properties. However, SERS-based pH sensing was restricted because of the aggregation of NMNPs in acidic medium or biosamples with high ionic strength. Herein, by using the electrostatic interaction as a driving force, AgNPs are assembled on the surface of ethylene imine polymer (PEI)/poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) electrospun nanofibers, which are then applied as highly sensitive and reproducible SERS substrate with an enhancement factor (EF) of 107–108. When p-aminothiophenol (p-ATP) is used as an indicator with its b2 mode, a good and wide linear response to pH ranging from 2.56 to 11.20 could be available, and the as-prepared nanocomposite fibers then could be fabricated as excellent pH sensors in complicated biological samples such as urine, considering that the pH of urine could reflect the acid–base status of a person. This work not only emerges a cost-effective, direct, and convenient approach to homogeneously decorate AgNPs on the surface of polymer nanofibers but also supplies a route for preparing other noble metal nanofibrous sensing membranes.

Multifunctional On-Demand Removability Hydrogel Dressing Based on in Situ Formed AgNPs, Silk Microfibers and Hydrazide Hyaluronic Acid for Burn Wound Healing

Jueying Chen,Xin Zhao,Lipeng Qiao,Ying Huang,Yutong Yang,Dake Chu,Baolin Guo

Elevated temperatures can deactivate tissues in the burn wound area, allowing pathogenic bacteria to multiply on the wound surface, ultimately leading to local or systemic infection. An ideal burn dressing should provide antibacterial properties and facilitate painless dressing changes. Silk microfibers coated with poly (2, 3, 4-trihydroxybenzaldehyde) (referred to as mSF@PTHB) to in situ reduce AgNO 3 to silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) in a hydrazide hyaluronic acid-based hydrogel are utilized. The findings indicate a more homogeneous distribution of the silver elements compared to directly doped AgNPs, which also conferred antioxidant and antibacterial properties to the hydrogel. Moreover, hydrogels containing pH-responsive dynamic acylhydrazone bonds can undergo a gel-sol transition in a weak acid environment, leading to the painless removal of adhesive hydrogel dressings. Notably, the on-demand replaceable self-healing antioxidant hydrogel dressing exhibits antibacterial effects and cytocompatibility in vitro, and the wound-healing performance of the hydrogel is validated by treating a burn mouse model with full-thickness skin defects. It is demonstrated that hydrogel dressings offer a viable therapeutic approach to prevent infection and facilitate the healing of burn wounds.

Ultra-sensitive, multi-component, and real-time detection of heavy metal ions via AgNPs@Cu-TCPP(Pt) sensitized strong coupling plasmonic sensor

Jie Yan,Runcheng Liu,Jian Shi,Wen Yang,Shouzhen Jiang,Zihao Zhang,Mingshun Jiang

The high toxicity and bioaccumulation of heavy metal ion pollutants pose severe threats to the environment and public health. Tilted fiber Bragg grating-based surface plasmon resonance (TFBG-SPR) sensors have emerged as effective tools for heavy metal ion sensing owing to their portability and rapid response. These sensors typically feature a single plasmonic structure. And they are constrained by hardware restrictions and complex spectral analyses. Thus, these conventional designs render multicomponent detection and precise analysis challenging. To address these limitations, this study introduces a lightweight multichannel sensing platform based on a composite plasmonic TFBG structure. A two-dimensional metal–organic framework (2D MOF Cu-TCPP(Pt)) and silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) are integrated onto a gold (Au)-coated TFBG surface. This configuration enables strong coupling between the SPR and localized SPR (LSPR). Hence, the signal sensitivity is enhanced. The molecular sieve effect of the Cu-TCPP(Pt) improves the target analyte enrichment and suppresses the background interference, thereby ensuring a stable signal output. Additionally, a DNA aptamer conformational switching strategy ensures selective target analyte recognition. This platform integrates an AgNPs@Cu-TCPP(Pt)/Au/TFBG sensor, optical channel array, and real-time signal processing module and enables simultaneous detection of Pb 2+ , Cd 2+ , and Hg 2+ within 6 min, with detection limits of 0.007, 0.012, and 0.005 nM, respectively. The proposed sensor effectively mitigates background interference in complex matrices, demonstrating excellent linearity and recovery. Compared with conventional TFBG-based methods, this platform offers high sensitivity, short detection times, and enhanced robustness, and presents a novel solution for real-time multicomponent detection in complex matrices.

AgNPs loaded adenine-modified chitosan composite POSS-PEG hybrid hydrogel with enhanced antibacterial and cell proliferation properties for promotion of infected wound healing

Cong Zhou,Tao Jiang,Siju Liu,Yingjie He,Guichun Yang,Junqi Nie,Feiyi Wang,Xiaofan Yang,Zhenbing Chen,Cuifen Lu

Wound healing is a dynamic and complex process, it's urgent to develop new wound dressings with excellent performance to promote wound healing at the different stages. Here, a novel composite hydrogel dressing composed by silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) impregnated adenine-modified chitosan (CS-A) and octafunctionalized polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) of benzaldehyde-terminated polyethylene glycol (POSS-PEG-CHO) solution was presented to solve the problem of wound infection. Modification of chitosan with adenine, not only can improve the water solubility of chitosan, but also introduce bioactive substances to promote cell proliferation. CS-A and POSS-PEG-CHO were cross-linked by Schiff-base reaction to form the injectable self-healing hydrogel. On this basis, AgNPs were added into the hydrogel, which endows the hydrogel with better antibacterial activity. Moreover, this kind of hydrogel exhibits excellent cell proliferation properties. Studies demonstrated that the hydrogel can significantly accelerate the closure of infected wounds. The histological analysis and immunofluorescence staining demonstrated that the wounds treated with the composite hydrogel exhibited fewer inflammatory cells, more collagen deposition and angiogenesis, faster regeneration of epithelial tissue. Above all, adenine-modified chitosan composite hydrogel with AgNPs loaded was considered as a dressing material with great application potential for promoting the healing of infected wounds.
