As well known, the apparent structure and chemical composition of self-cleaning photocatalytic coatings are crucial for their application. In this study, C 3 N 4 with a large specific surface area was introduced into N-CQDs/Bi 2 WO 6 to construct a highly catalytic active catalyst (CBW-0.5), which continuously degraded 57.7 % of NO. A robust self-cleaning photocatalytic coating (CCBW-B) was prepared by firmly bonding CBW-0.5 to the substrate through a layered spraying process. CBW-0.5 endowed CCBW-B with high catalytic activity, maintaining a degradation rate of 64.9 % for NO, and most of the surface organic dye contamination was degraded after 36 h. Due to the appropriate arrangement of low surface energy substances and micro/nano particles on the surface, CCBW-B with a graded cross network on the surface has contact angles (CA) of 156°/145° for water/olive oil, respectively. The influence of each component of CCBW-B on its photocatalytic and liquid repellent ability was studied, and the patterns for the differences in coating performance due to the changes in surface roughness structure caused by different layer distributions was discussed. In addition, the mechanism for the excellent performance of CCBW-B was explored using SEM, specific surface area, and the theory of the generation and distribution of air pockets. Finally, the durability and self-cleaning ability of CCBW-B were tested, and the synergistic mechanism of self-cleaning and photocatalysis was also provided.

Most photocatalysts reported to date need sacrificial agents (ethanol or methanol) to quench h + and facilitate the reduction of O 2 to H 2 O 2 . This requirement increases the cost of H 2 O 2 production and hinders the advancement of photocatalytic technology. Exploring a novel photocatalyst without the sacrificial agents for photocatalytic production of H 2 O 2 remains a huge challenge. In this research, we designed Indium phosphide (InP) quantum dot (QDs)-decorated bismuth tungstate (Bi 2 WO 6 ) microspheres for the photocatalytic generation of H 2 O 2 without the use of any sacrificial agents. The photocatalytic efficiency of InP/Bi 2 WO 6 composites for H 2 O 2 production reached 17.45 mmol g −1 h −1 , which is 90.8 times and 53.6 times greater than pure InP and Bi 2 WO 6 , respectively. Furthermore, InP/Bi 2 WO 6 composites demonstrated high photocatalytic H 2 O 2 production efficiency when used in industrial wastewater and tap water. In addition, in-situ photocatalytic H 2 O 2 synthesis was applied to actual coking wastewater for lowering chemical oxygen demand (COD) levels, and the removal rate was more than 60%. Remarkably, the degradation efficiency of acid orange 7 using the 3InP/Bi 2 WO 6 sample reached 99.9%. To the best of our knowledge, no other research has reported the use of InP QDs for the photocatalytic in-situ synthesis of H 2 O 2 in real water. This study provides valuable insights for the development of InP-based photocatalysts.

Semiconductor photocatalysis holds great potential for the degradation of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), yet photocatalysts often experience low efficiency due to insufficient surface catalytic active sites, limited light absorption, and poor carrier separation efficiency. Inspired by the structure of Eucalyptus trees, a selective reduction strategy is proposed to grow bismuth nanosphere networks on 1D/2D Bi 2 WO 6 (BWO) heteromorphic junctions, which consist of interwoven mesoporous nanofibers (NFs) and nanosheets (NSs). This establishes a synergistic mechanism of “surface active sites-intrinsic defects-carrier separation.” Initially, the electrospun BWO precursor NFs are calcined in air, resulting in 2D NSs growing radially along the NFs in an ordered, spaced arrangement to form 1D/2D BWO structures. Subsequently, under H 2 /Ar reduction, Bi 3+ species are preferentially reduced to Bi⁰ along the NF axes and NS corners, forming a dynamically evolved metal-defect regulatory system. The 0D/1D/2D Bi-BWO photocatalyst can rapidly degrade 100% of acetaldehyde and exhibits superior stability over five cycles. Its degradation rate is 3.5 times faster than that of 1D/2D BWO and significantly surpasses traditional BWO. This work presents a novel perspective for designing photocatalysts to efficiently remove VOCs.

The elaborate design of efficient strategy to facilitate interfacial and spatial charge separation is a prospective strategy for the enhancement of photodegradation activity. Herein, the oxygen vacancies modified hierarchical hollow tubular Bi 2 WO 6 /In 2 O 3 heterostructure was synthesized via an in situ self-assembly method using MIL-68(In) as precursors and structural component, which can modulate charge redistribution for effective photocatalytic norfloxacin degradation (90.8%) in 50 min. The XRD , ESR , HRTEM , and XPS characterizations significantly prove the existence of oxygen vacancies and the successful construction of Bi 2 WO 6 /In 2 O 3 heterojunction. Furthermore, the optimal BWO/In 2 O 3 -25 catalyst exhibits excellent degradation efficiency of NOR in practical water matrices and superior decomposition performances of tetracycline (82.1%), ciprofloxacin (82.4%), levofloxacin (88.2%), methyl orange (86.3%), methylene blue (93.2%), and rhodamine B (94.7%). Importantly, the toxicity of NOR can be ignored after the degradation. Capture experiments and DFT calculations collaboratively demonstrate the Z-scheme charge migration mechanism. This study presents a novel opinion for rational developing oxygen vacancies modified Z-scheme heterojunction with unique spatial and interfacial charge flow steering via a facile strategy.

Photocatalytic reduction of nitrate (NO 3 − ) to ammonia (NH 3 ) has garnered growing attention as a sustainable route for simultaneous nitrate pollution remediation and value-added ammonia synthesis under ambient conditions. However, its efficiency remains severely limited by the intrinsically high structural stability of nitrate anions and inefficient charge-carrier utilization. In this study, a Fe-doped Bi/Bi 2 WO 6 photocatalyst (H-Fe-B/BWO) is constructed via a facile hydrothermal method followed by calcination in a reducing atmosphere. The experimental results reveal that the optimized H-Fe-B/BWO exhibits significantly enhanced photocatalytic nitrate reduction performance, achieving an NH 3 production rate of 2.419 mmol g cat −1 h −1 with a high selectivity of 99.3% in the presence of ethylene glycol (EG), representing an approximately 4.5-fold improvement compared with pristine Bi 2 WO 6 . The remarkable enhancement originates from the synergistic effect between Lewis acidic sites generated by Fe dopants with unsaturated coordination environments and the surface plasmon resonance of metallic Bi, which collectively facilitates nitrate activation and improves charge-carrier separation and utilization. This work provides a rational strategy for designing efficient photocatalysts for selective NO 3 − -to-NH 3 conversion under environmentally benign conditions, contributing to sustainable nitrogen management and circular economy-driven resource recovery. Graphical The enhanced photocatalytic nitrate-to-ammonia conversion over H-Fe-B/BWO can be summarized as a cooperative process involving surface reaction chemistry and charge-carrier dynamics. Fe dopants introduced into the Bi 2 WO 6 lattice generate coordinatively unsaturated metal centers, which function as Lewis acidic sites capable of strongly interacting with nitrate anions through O-metal coordination. This interaction promotes nitrate adsorption and induces structural distortion of the NO 3 − species, thereby lowering the activation barrier for the initial N─O bond cleavage. Simultaneously, reductive calcination leads to the in situ formation of metallic Bi on the catalyst surface, which serves as a plasmonic component under visible light irradiation. The surface plasmon resonance of metallic Bi not only broadens the light-harvesting capability but also enhances local electromagnetic fields, facilitating the separation and migration of photogenerated charge carriers. As a result, photogenerated electrons are more efficiently delivered to nitrate species adsorbed at Lewis acidic sites, enabling a sustained multi-electron reduction pathway toward ammonia while suppressing competing reactions. The intimate coupling between nitrate activation at Fe-derived Lewis acidic sites and plasmon-induced charge utilization accounts for the high activity and selectivity observed over the H-Fe-B/BWO photocatalyst.

Given the increasing interest in converting CO 2 into clean energy through photocatalytic processes, a Bi 4 O 5 Br 2 /Bi 2 WO 6 heterojunction photocatalyst was successfully constructed via a hydrothermal process combined with an in situ growth technique for efficient CO 2 photoreduction. Without sacrificial agents, the composite material 20Bi 4 O 5 Br 2 /Bi 2 WO 6 (20BOB/BWO) demonstrated superior photocatalytic activity. The generation rates of CO and CH 4 reached 25 µmol·g −1 ·h −1 and 4.6 µmol·g −1 ·h −1 , respectively; notably, the CO yield was significantly higher than that of pure Bi 4 O 5 Br 2 and Bi 2 WO 6 . Such enhancement originated from the type-II interfacial charge transfer mechanism, which facilitated efficient spatial charge separation and consequently led to a remarkable improvement in the composite’s catalytic efficiency.

Prostate cancer is one of the most common cancers in the world, and its early diagnosis can effectively reduce mortality. A new label-free photoelectrochemical (PEC) immunosensor on the basis of Bi 2 WO 6 /BiOBr nanocomposite materials has been successfully prepared for the test of prostate-specific antigen (PSA) in human serum in this work. The Ag 2 S-sensitized Bi 2 WO 6 /BiOBr heterojunction was used as a photosensitive material, which effectively improved the photocurrent response. On Bi 2 WO 6 /BiOBr surface, dopamine immobilized PSA antibody by self-polymerizing to form polydopamine membrane. Antigen and antibody are specifically combined to achieve quantitative detection of PSA according to the current changes at different concentrations of antigen. Under the optimal experimental conditions, the PEC immunosensor has an ideal linear relationship between 1 pg/mL - 50 ng/mL, and the detection limit is 0.084 pg/mL. In addition, the prepared immunosensor has good stability, reproducibility and selectivity, providing a new method for the detection of PSA in actual sample analysis.

Bi2WO6-based heterojunction photocatalyst for antibiotic degradation has been a research hotspot, but its photocatalytic performance needs to be further improved. Therefore, 2D/2D P-doped g-C3N4/Bi2WO6direct Z-scheme heterojunction photocatalysts with different composition ratios were prepared through three strategies of phosphorus (P) element doping, morphology regulation, and heterojunction, and the efficiency of its degradation of tetracycline hydrochloride (TC-HCl) under visible light was studied. Their structural, optical, and electronic properties were evaluated, and their photocatalytic efficiency for TC-HCl degradation was explored with a detailed assessment of the active species, degradation pathways, and effects of humic acid, different anions and cations, and water sources. The 30% P-doped g-C3N4/Bi2WO6had the best photocatalytic performance for TC-HCl degradation. Its photocatalytic rate was 4.5-, 2.2-, and 1.9-times greater than that of g-C3N4, P-doped g-C3N4, and Bi2WO6, respectively. The improved photocatalytic efficiency was attributed to the synergistic effect of P doping and 2D/2D direct Z-scheme heterojunction construction. The stability and reusability of the 30% P-doped C3N4/Bi2WO6were confirmed by cyclic degradation experiments. Radical scavenging experiments and electron spin resonance spectroscopy showed that the main active species were •O2−and h+. This work provides a new strategy for the preparation of direct Z-scheme heterojunction catalysts with high catalytic performance.Keywords:P-doped g-C3N4;Bi2WO6;2D/2D direct Z-scheme heterojunction;photocatalytic degradation;tetracycline hydrochloride

Photocatalytic oxidation of cyclohexane (CHA) with air in solvent-free is an efficient and green approach for the production of cyclohexanol and cyclohexanone (KA oil). In the present work, ultrathin Bi 2 WO 6 /BiOCl heterojunction nanosheets are prepared by varying the amounts of potassium chloride (KCl) via a one-step solvothermal method. The oxygen vacancies (OV) in Bi 2 WO 6 /BiOCl nanosheets can be produced in situ during the photocatalysis. An efficient and selective photo-oxidation of CHA to KA oil with air as an oxidant in solvent-free was achieved over OV-Bi 2 WO 6 /BiOCl catalyst. The composition, structure, morphology, as well as textural, optical, and electrochemical properties of the photocatalysts are systematically analyzed by various characterization techniques. The photocatalytic activity (KA oil, 484.4 μmol) for the titled reaction was significantly improved over OV-Bi 2 WO 6 /BiOCl with 1.8 and 9.8 times compared with that by pure BiOCl and Bi 2 WO 6 catalysts, respectively. Meanwhile, up to 92.5% selectivity of KA oil and 5 cycles without photocatalytic activity loss were achieved. The photogenerated holes (h + ) and ·OH radicals are verified to be predominant reactive species by trapping experiments and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) tests. The excellent photocatalytic performance can be attributed to the enhanced photo-absorption, abundant oxygen vacancies, high exposure of active facets, and efficient electron-hole separation. Thereby, the present work offers a prospective strategy for constructing Bi-based photocatalyst with highly efficient and selective photocatalytic oxidation of CHA.

An efficient Ag/rGO/Bi 2 WO 6 nanocomposite was synthesized by the precipitation-photoreduction method. The resulting Ag/rGO/Bi 2 WO 6 showed excellent photocatalytic activity for the photodegradation of Rhodamine B (RhB), with 15%Ag/rGO/Bi 2 WO 6 photodegrading 96.97% of RhB in 180 min, which was 1.28, 1.09 and 1.05 times higher than that of Bi 2 WO 6 , Ag/rGO, and rGO/Bi 2 WO 6 , respectively. The effect of noble metal Ag's surface plasmon resonance and Schottky barrier , as well as the superior electron transfer ability of rGO , dramatically improved photo-generated electron-hole pair separation and transfer efficiency. In addition, the effects of pollutant concentration, pH, and catalyst dosage on Ag/rGO/Bi 2 WO 6 photocatalytic performance also were explored. Furthermore, the free-radical trapping tests revealed that the primary active radicals in the catalytic system are hole (h + ), superoxide radical (•O 2 − ), and hydroxy radical (•OH). Additionally, after four recycling, the photocatalytic performance of the Ag/rGO/Bi 2 WO 6 composite did not show a significant decline. As a result of this research, the Ag/rGO/Bi 2 WO 6 catalyst, as developed, has a bright potential for environmental purifying.

The cotton fabrics were characterized by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), XRD, SEM, and EDS. The photocatalytic activity of the BiOCl/Bi2WO6photocatalyst and cotton fabrics was assessed by photocatalytic degradation of MB (methylene blue) solution under simulated visible light. The self-cleaning property of cotton fabrics was evaluated by removing MB solution and red-wine stains. Results revealed that the coated cotton fabrics exhibited appreciable photocatalytic and self-cleaning performance. To explore an efficient photocatalyst for NO pollution, a direct Z-scheme photocatalytic system is successfully fabricated by coupling Bi2WO6 with NH2-UiO-66 via a simple hydrothermal synthesis technique. The Z-scheme system promotes the NO photocatalytic oxidation activity with an optimum NO removal rate of 79%, which is 2.7 and 1.2 times that obtained by using only pristine Bi2WO6 and NH2-UiO-66, respectively. Simultaneously, superior selectivity for converting NO to NO3−/NO2− is observed. The enhanced photocatalytic performance of the Bi2WO6/NH2-UiO-66 hybrids is attributed to the following two aspects: (i) large specific area of NH2-UiO-66, which exposes more active sites and is beneficial to the adsorption and activation of NO; (ii) outstanding Z-scheme structure constructed between BiWO6 and NH2-UiO-66, which can improve the efficiency of the separation of electron–hole pairs and preserves the strong oxidation ability of hybrids. ESR analysis shows that ·O2− and ·OH contribute to NO removal. A possible photocatalytic mechanism of NO oxidation on the direct Z-scheme photocatalyst (BWO/2NU) under visible light irradiation is proposed. This work displays the BWO/2NU hybrid's potential for treating low-concentration air pollutants, and the proposed Z-scheme photocatalyst design and promotion mechanism may inspire more rational synthesis of highly efficient photocatalysts for NO removal.
