Two-dimensional tin (Sn)-based perovskite light-emitting diodes (PeLEDs), featuring pure-red emission and eco-friendly characteristics, show great potential in wide color-gamut displays. However, their electroluminescence performance still lags significantly behind that of the lead-based counterparts, primarily due to the challenges of fast crystallization rate and undesired self-oxidation of Sn 2+ to Sn 4+ . Here, we report a rational molecular design strategy using 3,5-difluorophenylhydrazine hydrochloride (2FPHCl), which provides both reduction and passivation functionalities. The fluorine substituents form hydrogen bonds with TEA + in TEA 2 SnI 4 to modulate the crystallization process, while the hydrazine group acts as a reductant to suppress Sn 2+ oxidation. Consequently, defects arising from fast crystallization and self-oxidation in tin-based perovskites are simultaneously mitigated. The optimized pure-red perovskite films exhibit a sixfold enhancement in photoluminescence quantum yield, along with more balanced carrier injection. As a result, the state-of-the-art pure-red PeLEDs achieve an external quantum efficiency of 11.7%, a Rec. 2020 color-gamut coverage of 99%, and a microsecond-scale response. This strategy further enables large-area devices with emitting areas up to 12.25 cm 2 and the first tin-based perovskite active-matrix displays integrated with a thin-film transistor backplane, which are capable of presenting clear cartoon images and videos.

Abstract Zero-dimensional (0D) organic–inorganic metal halides (OIMHs) are highly promising lead-free luminescent materials. However, their inherent instability severely limits their long-term applications. Herein, a relatively stable zero-dimensional manganese halide, (PPIP)2MnCl4, was synthesized. In this structure, PPIP+ cations establish an extensive hydrogen-bond network with [MnCl4]2– tetrahedra, significantly enhancing both the material’s luminescent properties and environmental stability. (PPIP)2MnCl4 exhibits bright green luminescence at a wavelength of 539 nm, with a full width at half-maximum (fwhm) of 60 nm and a photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) of 97.2%. Notably, the material retains its luminescent characteristics even after storage in ambient air for 25 days, as well as after thermal treatment and photoirradiation. Two WLEDs were fabricated using K2SiF6:Mn4+ and CaAlSiN3:Eu2+ red phosphors, respectively, demonstrating their potential for white-light illumination. As an X-ray scintillator, (PPIP)2MnCl4 achieves a light yield of 27,511 photons/MeV, with a detection limit as low as 319.8 nGy/s, enabling high-resolution imaging at a spatial resolution of 9.68 lp/mm. These results indicate that (PPIP)2MnCl4 is a highly promising candidate material for next-generation solid-state lighting and high-resolution X-ray imaging.

Surface treatment with NaBF 4 effectively reduces surface defects of CsPbBr 3 nanocrystals. • Anions in NaBF 4 replace original carboxylate ligands via strong coordination with surface cations. • NaBF 4 -treated CsPbBr 3 nanocrystals achieve high PLQY of 93.71% and good stability. • NaBF 4 -treated PeLEDs show CIE coordinates of (0.10, 0.73), meeting Rec.2020 standard. Surface defect passivation is critical for improving the luminescence performance and stability of CsPbBr 3 perovskite nanocrystals (NCs) toward high-performance perovskite light-emitting diodes. Herein, a facile and efficient room-temperature surface treatment strategy using NaBF 4 is proposed to synergistically enhance the optical properties and environmental stability of CsPbBr 3 NCs prepared via a modified ligand-assisted reprecipitation method. Through the strong coordination interaction between F atoms in BF 4 − anions and surface Pb 2+ ions, the weakly bound carboxylate ligands are replaced, effectively passivating surface defects without altering the cubic perovskite crystal structure. Consequently, the photoluminescence quantum yield is remarkably improved from 72.44% to 93.71%. Moreover, the treated NCs exhibit significantly enhanced thermal stability with PL intensity retention of 65.55% at 350 K, ethanol tolerance with 89.51% retention after 360 min, and photostability under continuous UV irradiation. PeLED devices based on the treated NCs achieve a maximum brightness of 7536 cd/m 2 and an external quantum efficiency of 6.50%, with emission centered at 514 nm and CIE coordinates of (0.10, 0.73) satisfying the Rec. 2020 ultra-wide color gamut standard. This work demonstrates that NaBF 4 surface treatment provides a practical and viable pathway toward high-performance and long-lifetime PeLEDs. A suite of Eu 3+ -doped Na 3 Ca 2 TaO 6 (NCTO) red-emitting phosphors was prepared via a high-temperature solid-state reaction. Under 464 nm blue light excitation, these samples showed a prominent red emission peak at approximately 610 nm corresponding to the 5 D 0 → 7 F 2 transition. Optimal luminescence was achieved at a doping concentration of 25 mol%, where concentration quenching occurred mainly due to dipole–dipole interactions. Interestingly, this material displayed abnormal thermally enhanced luminescence, its emission intensity at 398 K was 32% higher than at room temperature. The activation energy for thermal quenching was determined to be 0.55 eV, and the internal quantum efficiency reached 60.86%. A WLED fabricated with the optimized NCTO:0.25Eu 3+ phosphor and a 395 nm LED chip exhibited a color rendering index of 91.4 and a correlated color temperature of 4687 K. Furthermore, this phosphor enabled clear visualization of tertiary-level details in latent fingerprint imaging and also showed promise for optical anti-counterfeiting applications.

Indium(III)-based hybrid halides are emerging low-dimensional luminescent materials; however, their rigid lattices and d 10 electronic configuration of In 3+ suppress intrinsic self-trapped-exciton (STE) emission, leading to limited photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY). To address this issue, Sb 3+ is doped into the 0D (Me 2 NH 2 ) 4 InCl 7 host, transforming it from a nearly non-emissive material into a highly efficient warm-white STE emitter. The optimized (Me 2 NH 2 ) 4 InCl 7 :0.2Sb 3+ delivers a near-unity PLQY (∼100%) under 350 nm excitation. Single-crystal structural analysis and theoretical calculations reveal substitutional Sb 3+ at In 3+ sites, inducing locally distorted [SbCl 6 ] octahedra. This Sb 3+ -triggered local lattice distortion strengthens electron–phonon coupling, and it deepens the STE potential well and suppresses non-radiative relaxation pathways, thereby enabling robust broadband STE emission with a microsecond-scale lifetime (4.28 µs), a large Stokes shift (280 nm), and a wide bandwidth (177 nm). This work provides a facile route to realize warm-white emission from a single host lattice based on stable, low-toxicity indium-based hybrid halides.

The development of simple and efficient synthesis strategies for multicolor fluorescent carbon dots (CDs) is crucial for advancing their applications in fields such as optoelectronic devices and fingerprint detection, and other fields. This study reports a “one-step synthesis combined with Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC) separation” strategy for the successful preparation of multicolor fluorescent CDs covering the entire visible spectrum (499-628 nm) under constant solvothermal conditions, using Neutral Red as the sole core precursor. The separated monochrome components—red (R-CDs), orange (O-CDs), yellow (Y-CDs), and green (G-CDs)—exhibit excellent optical properties, with R-CDs achieving a quantum yield (QY) as high as 20.3%. Systematic structural and spectral characterization reveals that the multicolor luminescence of these CDs does not originate from the conventional quantum confinement effect but is dominated by their surface states. The energy of these surface states is precisely tuned by the graphitization degree of the carbon core and the type of nitrogen-containing functional groups. Leveraging their superior optical properties and solid-state luminescence, the separated multicolor CDs were successfully applied in solid-state lighting to fabricate monochrome light-emitting diodes (LEDs) emitting bright orange, yellow, and green light, respectively. Furthermore, by compounding the highly luminescent R-CDs with starch, high-fidelity imaging of latent fingerprints (LFPs) was achieved, with second-level details being clearly visible. This research provides a new pathway for the low-cost production of multicolor fluorescent carbon dots, showcasing their broad application prospects in the field of advanced functional materials.

A facile co-additive crystallization strategy fabricate 0D/3D perovskite heterojunctions via a one-step spin-coating route. • FABr induces in-situ formation of 0D Cs₄PbBr₆, NEABr regulates crystallization kinetics and passivates defects. • The optimized 0D/3D heterostructure enables reduced defect density, balanced charge injection, suppressed ion migration. • Green PeLEDs based on this heterojunction achieve a peak EQE of 7.81% and an ultrahigh luminance of 51823 cd m⁻². Metal halide perovskites have emerged as promising semiconductors for next-generation displays, featuring high electroluminescence efficiency and outstanding color purity. Three-dimensional (3D) perovskites offer superior charge transport but suffer from moderate exciton binding energies that limit radiative recombination. In contrast, zero-dimensional (0D) Cs₄PbBr₆ provides strong exciton confinement. However, controllable integration of 0D perovskites into 3D matrices via solution‐processable routes remains challenging. Here, we report a co-additive crystallization modulation strategy that enables in-situ fabrication of uniform 0D/3D perovskite heterojunction films active layer through a one-step deposition process. Formamidinium bromide (FABr) promotes the formation of 0D Cs₄PbBr₆ nanocrystals, while 1-naphthylethylammonium bromide (NEABr) regulates crystallization kinetics via steric hindrance and coordination effects, yielding improved film morphology and suppressed defect formation. The synergistic effects reduce defect density, balance charge injection, and enhance light outcoupling. Consequently, green perovskite light-emitting diodes (PeLEDs) based on the optimized 0D/3D heterojunctions deliver a peak luminance of 51823 cd m⁻² and a maximum external quantum efficiency (EQE) of 7.81%. Efficient green phosphors with high internal quantum efficiency (IQE) are crucial for developing high color rendering white light-emitting diodes (LEDs). Herein, through co-substituting cation sites, Y 3+ /Al 3+ are replaced by Ba 2+ /Si 4+ respectively in the Y 3 Al 5 O 12 (YAG) lattice, yielding novel Ce 3+ -doped BaY 2 Al 4 SiO 12 (BYAS) green phosphors with symmetrical and stable structure similar to that of YAG. Notably, the BY 1.94 AS:0.06Ce 3+ phosphor exhibits exceptional IQE of 96.4%. Upon adjusting the Ce 3+ doping concentration, the optimal BY 1.94 AS:0.06Ce 3+ phosphor shows green emission at 533 nm and a broad full width at half maximum of 87 nm under 469 nm excitation. The emission spectrum ranges from 500 to 700 nm, primarily due to the characteristic 5d to 4 f transitions of Ce 3+ ions. The BY 1.94 AS:0.06Ce 3+ phosphor retains 67.7% of its initial intensity at 423 K (E a = 0.241 eV), demonstrating high thermal stability. As-prepared BY 1.94 AS:0.06Ce 3+ green phosphor and commercial CaAlSiN 3 :Eu 2+ red phosphors were combined with InGaN blue chip to fabricate a white LEDs device. The device exhibits warm white light with a high color rendering index (Ra = 85.9, R9 = 41.1), a low correlated color temperature (5064 K) and an excellent luminous efficiency (80.24 lm/W). This work suggests that the novel high-efficiency BYAS:Ce 3+ green phosphors possess significant potential for achieving high color rendering in warm-white LEDs.

Developing high-efficiency and thermally stable deep-red-emitting phosphors is crucial for advancing agricultural illumination. Eu 3+ -activated phosphors hold significant potential in plant growth light-emitting diodes (LEDs). However, achieving highly efficient deep-red emission of Eu 3+ remains challenging owing to the weak 5 D 0 → 7 F 4 transition and thermal quenching. In this study, novel Ca 2 YAl 3 Ge 2 O 12 : Eu 3+ phosphors were successfully synthesized via high-temperature solid-state reaction. Under the excitation of 394 nm, the phosphors exhibited deep-red emission in the wavelength range of 550–750 nm. Notably, the strongest anomalous emission peak was found at 708 nm, corresponding to the 5 D 0 → 7 F 4 transition of Eu 3+ ions, which can be explained using structural analysis. Additionally, the phosphors showed good thermal stability, and its emission intensity at 423 K maintained about 84 % of that at 298 K. The internal quantum efficiency reached 67 %. Furthermore, a prototype LED device was fabricated using the optimized phosphors, and its emission spectrum widely overlaps with the absorption band of plant pigments. These results indicate that the Ca 2 YAl 3 Ge 2 O 12 : Eu 3+ phosphors possess great potential applications in plant growth LEDs.

Narrow-band red inorganic phosphors excited by near-ultraviolet (n-UV) light have significant application potential in the manufacture of white light-emitting diodes (LEDs) with high R9 index. Novel near-UV-excitable Eu 3+ doped K 3 Ca 2 (SO 4 ) 3 × (X = F, Cl, Br) halosulphate phosphors were synthesized via high-temperature solid-state reaction method. By modifying the non-activating ions in the host matrix, the luminescence properties of Eu 3+ were effectively enhanced across various matrices, thereby optimizing the performance of this series of phosphors. As-prepared phosphors can be activated under 397 nm excitation and emit red light at 619 nm, corresponding to 5 D 0 → 7 F 2 transitions of Eu 3+ . Optimization of the doping concentration revealed that the optimal Eu 3+ concentration for different host matrices is 0.13. Notably, the K 3 Ca 2 (SO 4 ) 3 F host matrix doped with Eu 3+ exhibits stronger emission intensity and better performance. The K 3 Ca 2 (SO 4 ) 3 F:0.13Eu 3+ phosphor exhibited long fluorescence lifetime of 0.42 ms and high color purity of 92.25 %. The emission intensity of K 3 Ca 2 (SO 4 ) 3 F:0.13Eu 3+ at 423 K can retain 89.5 % of its value at room temperature. A white LEDs device was fabricated by mixing and encapsulating K 3 Ca 2 (SO 4 ) 3 F:0.13Eu 3+ phosphor with commercial BaMgAl 10 O 17 :Eu 2+ blue and (Ba, Sr) 2 SiO 4 :Eu 2+ green phosphors onto 397 nm n-UV InGaN chip. The device emits bright white light and exhibits high color rendering index (Ra = 79.9, R9 = 86.5) and a suitable correlated color temperature (CCT = 5915 K) at 50 mA drive current. The results suggest that this work provides new assistance in achieving high color rendering white LEDs excited by n-UV light.

Here, the crystal structure, phase analysis, site occupancy, and luminescence properties of NCMP:Eu2+,Tb3+,Mn2+ have been studied for the first time. Under 335 nm ultraviolet excitation, the NCMP:Eu2+ phosphors show narrow-band blue emission. In addition, we discuss the reason for a continuous red shift for the emission spectra of NCMP:xEu2+ by raising the x value. The efficient ET processes of Eu2+ → Tb3+ and Eu2+ → Mn2+ were investigated by the luminescence spectra and decay curves. The ET efficiencies reach 92.58% at y = 0.15 for NCMP:0.01Eu2+,yTb3+ and 99.85% at z = 0.15 for NCMP:0.01Eu2+,zMn2+ phosphors, respectively. The efficient energy transfer processes greatly improve the quantum efficiency, luminous intensity, and thermal stability. Bright green and red emissions can be realized through changing the related ratio of Eu2+, Tb3+, and Mn2+. In addition, the excellent performance of the prepared white LED lamps utilizing a 385 nm chip combined with our prepared NCMP:Eu2+,Tb3+/Mn2+ phosphors indicates that NCMP:0.01Eu2+,yTb3+ and NCMP:0.01Eu2+,zMn2+ phosphors can be potential green and red phosphors for white LEDs.

In this study, a series of Sr6LuAl(BO3)6:Sm3+red phosphors were successfully prepared with a high-temperature solid-phase technology. The Rietveld refinement analysis of the X-ray diffraction (XRD) diffraction patterns indicated that the as-prepared phosphors belong to theR3¯space group of the hexagonal crystal system. Under 404 nm near-ultraviolet excitation, the Sr6LuAl(BO3)6:Sm3+phosphor exhibits narrowband emission within the range of 550 to 750 nm. The primary emission peak is observed at a wavelength of 599 nm, corresponding to6H5/2→4F7/2. The optimum doping concentration of the Sr6LuAl(BO3)6:xSm3+phosphor is 10 mol%. Nearest-neighbor ion interaction is the mechanism of concentration quenching. The synthesized phosphors demonstrate exceptional thermal stability, with a high quenching temperature (T0.5> 480 K). Furthermore, the assembled white light-emitting diode (w-LED) device exhibits a low color temperature (5464 K), an excellent color rendering index (Ra= 95.6), and CIE coordinates (0.333, 0.336) close to those of standard white light. Collectively, these results suggest the enormous potential of Sr6LuAl(BO3)6:Sm3+phosphors for applications in w-LEDs.
