The benzene-methanol alkylation offers a strategic route to valorize methanol surplus and meets the growing demand for high-purity aromatics. For industrially viable shaped catalysts, achieving a balance between sufficient acidity and optimal diffusion capacity remains critical. Traditional shaping methods using binders inadvertently compromise mass transfer efficiency within zeolite crystals while introducing strong acid sites that disrupt the tailored weak-acid properties. To overcome these limitations, we developed a dual-approach strategy employing 1) B-Mg-co- substitution in ZSM-5 frameworks to effectively suppress ethylbenzene generation while enhancing catalytic durability, and 2) recrystallization-driven structural engineering to create binder-free architectures featuring cheese-like macropore. Intelligent gravimetric analysis (IGA) and fluorescence probe diffusion mapping further reveals three-dimensionally interconnected micro-meso-macroporous networks that facilitate enhanced molecular transport for both small and bulky aromatic species. The optimized catalyst demonstrates remarkable stability during extended operation (1008 h) under 460 °C, 0.4 MPa and 2.5 h −1 , achieving 45–50 % benzene conversion (X B ) with toluene selectivity (S T ) ~50 %, C 8 selectivity (S C8 ) ~37 %, C 9+ selectivity (C 9+ ) ~ 14.0 %, and yield of EB in C 8 (Y EBinC8 ) <9 %. This work establishes a morphology-directed synthesis protocol for isomorphously substituted zeolites, offering a scale-up manufacturing route for acid site-engineered catalysts that combine hierarchical porosity with optimized Brønsted-Lewis acid synergy.

Osteoporosis, a prevalent chronic health issue among the elderly, is a global bone metabolic disease. Flavonoids, natural active compounds widely present in vegetables, fruits, beans, and cereals, have been reported for their anti-osteoporotic properties. Onion is a commonly consumed vegetable rich in flavonoids with diverse pharmacological activities. In this study, the trabecular structure was enhanced and bone mineral density (BMD) exhibited a twofold increase following oral administration of onion flavonoid extract (OFE). The levels of estradiol (E2), calcium (Ca), and phosphorus (P) in serum were significantly increased in ovariectomized (OVX) rats, with effects equal to alendronate sodium (ALN). Alkaline phosphatase (ALP) and tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase (TRAP) levels in rat serum were reduced by 35.7% and 36.9%, respectively, compared to the OVX group. In addition, the effects of OFE on bone health were assessed using human osteoblast-like cells MG-63 and osteoclast precursor RAW 264.7 cells in vitro as well. Proliferation and mineralization of MG-63 cells were promoted by OFE treatment, along with increased ALP activity and mRNA expression of osteoprotegerin (OPG)/receptor activator of nuclear factor-kappaB ligand (RANKL). Additionally, RANKL-induced osteoclastogenesis and osteoclast activity were inhibited by OFE treatment through decreased TRAP activity and down-regulation of mRNA expression-related enzymes in RAW 264.7 cells. Overall findings suggest that OFE holds promise as a natural functional component for alleviating osteoporosis.

The purification and separation of CO 2 , CH 4 , and N 2 from biogas, flue gas, and coalbed gas for carbon capture and storage are main technology in mitigating the greenhouse effect. The Mg-MOF-74@clinoptilolite (Mg-MOF-74@CP) composites are successfully synthesized through an interfacial growth of Mg-MOF-74 onto the surfaces of the synthesized CP for adsorption and separation of CO 2 , CH 4 , and N 2 . The structural characteristics of the resultant composites are systematically characterized by various characterizations. In particular, small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) patterns are used to elucidate the fractal structural evolutions of the parent CP, Mg-MOF-74, and Mg-MOF-74@CP. Meanwhile, the single-component adsorption isotherms for CO 2 , CH 4 , and N 2 are demonstrated. The breakthrough measurements on CO 2 /CH 4 and cycling tests on CO 2 are conducted. The results elucidate that the CO 2 equilibrium capacity of Mg-MOF-74@CP is higher than that of parent CP, displaying a high affinity toward CO 2 , the longer breakthrough time and enhancement of CO 2 uptake exhibit a better separation performance. The cycling tests on CO 2 reveal that the Mg-MOF-74@CP could be used repetitively, promoting its practical application in an energy-saving and economical way. Additionally, the adsorption isotherms and adsorption sites of the prepared Mg-MOF-74@CP are simulated using the Grand Canonical Monte Carlo (GCMC) method, elucidating the mechanism of the gas separation performance of Mg-MOF-74@CP.

In the present study, a magnetic adsorbent, rhein-coated magnetic Fe 3 O 4 nanoparticle (RMNP), for Pb 2+ and Mg 2+ had been developed, and adsorption mechanism was studied via low-field NMR. RMNP was characterized by TEM, FTIR, and XRD. RMNP could adsorb and remove Pb 2+ and Mg 2+ from water and was successfully applied to remove Pb 2+ and Mg 2+ from wastewater, with satisfactory recovery rates and high adsorption capacities. The calculated maximum adsorption capacity for Mg 2+ and Pb 2+ was approximately 69.3 and 64.9 mg g −1 of RMNP, respectively, which was better than some results reported. Low-field NMR results showed that Pb 2+ or Mg 2+ enhanced the T 2 relaxation time of RMNP, which suggested that RMNP selectively coordinated with Pb 2+ or Mg 2+ and led to the aggregation of RMNP, furthermore removal of Pb 2+ or Mg 2+ from water. The standard curves for △T 2 -cation concentration exhibited good line correlation. The linear ranges were from 4.2 × 10 −6 to 2.0 × 10 −4 mol L −1 for Pb 2+ and from 5.0 × 10 −6 mol L −1 to 1.0 × 10 −4 mol L −1 for Mg 2+ , respectively. The limits of detection were 1.4 × 10 −6 mol L −1 for Pb 2+ and 2.1 × 10 −6 mol L −1 for Mg 2+ , respectively. In short, low-field NMR could clearly display the interaction between RMNP and Pb 2+ or Mg 2+ , even be used to detect Pb 2+ or Mg 2+ in suitable condition. Besides, this method could be expanded to study the interaction between other magnetic adsorbents and analytes.

This paper describes a leaching-purifying-precipitation process to recover magnesium from serpentine acid-leaching solution and to synthesize high purity Mg(OH)2and 4MgCO3·Mg(OH)2·4H2O. Fe, Al, and Cr in the leaching solution were removed using the oxidation precipitation method with active MgO as a precipitant and H2O2as an oxidant. Ni, Co and Mn were removed by Na2S precipitation to obtain a pure MgSO4solution. Mg2+ions were first precipitated with NH3·H2O to synthesize Mg(OH)2, followed by NH4HCO3precipitation to obtain 4MgCO3·Mg(OH)2·4H2O. A small part of MgSO4coprecipitates with Mg(OH)2to form MgSO4·5Mg(OH)2·3H2O. The Mg(OH)2was aged with a diluted NaOH solution to remove the sulfur; the two-stage precipitation percentage of Mg is 96.3%. Mg(OH)2has a purity of 98.48% with a sulfur content of 0.28%. This process provides a promising method for the high-efficiency recovery of Mg and the large-scale production of the high purity of Mg(OH)2from the serpentine.Keywords:serpentine;two-stage counter current leaching;remove impurity;MgSO4·5Mg(OH)2·3H2O;high purity Mg(OH)2

Ceramic membranes have a highly porous structure and a high surface area, which provide suitable support for heterogeneous catalytic oxidation. In this study, as effective catalysts for ozonation, Mg, Ce, and Mn oxides were coated by co-precipitation onto a flat-sheet ceramic membrane to produce two catalytic ceramic membranes (CCMs), namely an Mg-Ce membrane and an Mg-Mn membrane. This technique combines ceramic membrane filtration with catalytic ozonation for advanced water and wastewater treatment. The CCM characterization showed that the metal oxide catalysts were well coated on the membrane surface and inside the membrane pores. Compared with non-catalytic ozonation, catalytic ozonation with CCMs was more effective for the degradation and removal of organic pollutants, including a dye as a model pollutant in water and residual organics in secondary wastewater effluent. At the same ozone dosage for ozonation coupled with membrane filtration, the organic removal efficiency was increased from approximately 30% for the ceramic membrane without the catalyst coating to over 80% for the CCM with the catalyst coating. Membrane catalytic ozonation also resulted in effective membrane fouling control during ultrafiltration of the secondary effluent. Based on the hydroxyl ( OH) quenching test, ozonation with CCMs produced more OH free radicals than ozonation alone, which led to enhanced organic degradation. Moreover, catalytic ozonation in the membrane reactor played an effective role in mitigation of membrane fouling. Ceramic membrane-based catalytic ozonation can be used for effective removal of toxic and persistent organic pollutants from water and wastewater.

Inactive magnesium, including electrochemically formed nanoscale Mg2+ ions in the solid electrolyte interphase (SEI Mg2+) and electrically isolated unreacted nano metallic Mg (Mg0), contributes to poor capacity and cycle life in magnesium metal batteries. Nevertheless, the precise quantification of nanoscale SEI Mg2+ versus inactive Mg0, as well as their formation mechanisms and relationship with the anode cycling reversibility, remains elucidated, thereby hindering progress in anode optimization design. Here, a magnesium-targeted acid-assisted continuous titration-collection-gas chromatography (AAC-TCGC) technique is developed to precisely quantify the percentage of nanolevel inactive SEI Mg2+ and Mg0 in Mg anode, revealing that the predominant contributor to Mg loss is the nanolevel inactive SEI Mg2+, which is different from the well-known inactive metal-dominant loss mechanism in Li/Zn battery. We find that the nanoscale SEI Mg2+ is mainly from the side reaction of the Mg anode with electrolyte anions/solvents or contaminants. We also discover a phenomenon that uniaxial stack pressure has no effect on altering the performance or morphology in the Mg metal anode (also distinct from Li/Zn anode behavior), highlighting the importance of nanoscale SEI Mg2+ loss tuning for magnesium metal battery construction. This study offers theories and approaches concerning the quantification and formation mechanism of inactive magnesium, crucial for developing high-performance magnesium metal batteries.

Alloying is one of the effective approaches to boost the discharge property of magnesium (Mg) anodes for primary Mg-air batteries and recently micro-alloying is highly recommended at the aim of developing advanced primary Mg system. In this study, micro-alloyed extruded Mg0.5Zn0.2Ge (in wt.%) alloy is evaluated as an anode candidate for primary Mg-air batteries in both half-cell and Mg-air full cell configurations, in comparison with commercially accepted Mg anodes, typified by as-cast HP Mg and extruded AZ31 alloy. The corrosion behavior at open circuit potential (OCP) condition of the three materials is also compared through electrochemical tests. Mg0.5Zn0.2Ge alloy displays the most negative OCP value and the highest corrosion resistance at OCP. During discharge, Mg0.5Zn0.2Ge anode exhibits low wasteful-discharge rate and homogeneous dissolution that gives rise to the absence of “chunk effect”. Consequently, the anodic efficiency and specific capacity of Mg0.5Zn0.2Ge anode are superior to those of HP Mg and AZ31 anodes, e.g. 57.3% and 1257 mAh g −1 at 1 mA cm −2 . Additionally, Mg-air battery based on Mg0.5Zn0.2Ge anode offers higher cell voltage and specific energy than those assembled with HP Mg and AZ31 anodes, which can be further optimized by addition of electrolyte additives. Therefore, micro-alloyed Mg0.5Zn0.2Ge alloy can serve as a promising candidate for anode material of primary Mg-air batteries.

Compared to single-function inhibitors, the novel multifunctional corrosion inhibitor developed in this study—oleic acid polyethylene glycol ester phosphate (OPP400)—achieves synergistic corrosion inhibition through molecular engineering that integrates multiple active functional segments. Its corrosion inhibition behavior and mechanism on Mg and Mg alloy in 3.5 wt% NaCl solutions were systematically investigated. The corrosion inhibition performance of OPP400 was evaluated using a combination of EIS, PDP, SEM, AFM, and contact angle measurements. The results demonstrate that at the optimal concentration of 100 mg L−1, OPP400 achieves corrosion inhibition efficiencies of 89.07% for pure Mg and 79.55% for Mg alloy. The PDP curves reveal OPP400 to be a mixed-type corrosion inhibitor. EIS reveals a marked increase in charge transfer resistance and a marked decrease in double-layer capacitance, which indicates the formation of a dense adsorbed film on the metal surface. Mott–Schottky analysis further corroborates that OPP400 selectively blocks Cl− ions by reducing the carrier density in the oxide film and enhancing the energy barrier of the passivation film. Surface analysis reveals that OPP400 significantly reduces the surface roughness of the substrate and enhances its hydrophobicity, thereby increasing the water contact angle from 37° to more than 66°. The inhibition mechanism is attributed to the synergistic effects of chemical adsorption, hydrophobic layer formation, and ionic barrier action, which collectively block the penetration of corrosive species (e.g., Cl− and H3O+). This study offers critical theoretical basis and practical guidance for the molecular design of corrosion inhibitors targeting Mg and Mg alloy.

Rechargeable Mg batteries are promising candidates for highly safe large-scale energy storage batteries owing to their low-cost and non-dendritic metallic Mg anode. However, exploration of high-performance cathodes remains a great challenge hindering their development. Herein, a new pseudocapacitive Mg-storage nanowire material (a-MoS3@CNT) is constructed with a carbon nanotube (CNT) core and an amorphous MoS3 (a-MoS3) outer layer (15 nm thick). The nanowire cathode exhibits a high reversible capacity of 175 mA h g−1 at 100 mA g−1, a good rate performance of 50 mA h g−1 at 1000 mA g−1, and an outstanding long-term cyclability over 500 cycles. Further investigation of the mechanism demonstrates that the Mg-storage of a-MoS3@CNT is mainly achieved by the pseudocapacitance of a-MoS3, in which Mg2+ ions show fast solid-state diffusion kinetics. The present results demonstrate a new approach for efficient Mg-storage using pseudocapacitive materials, and the performance and solid-state Mg2+ diffusion kinetics could be optimized by delicate morphology tailoring.

The magnesium (Mg) metal anodes of magnesium batteries have attracted significant attention because of their high theoretical capacity, high safety, and low cost. Their development is hindered by the passivation characteristics of magnesium, especially the serious voltage lag and corrosion polarization in aqueous solutions. This study demonstrates a novel approach involving the electrophoresis deposition on the surface of a magnesium electrode with MXene@ZIF-67. MXene@ZIF-67 is a heterojunction material with a core-shell structure obtained from MXene and ZIF-67 by the in-situ growth method. The addition of ZIF-67 not only solves the problem of MXene layer-to-layer instability, but also improves the corrosion resistance of magnesium metal by utilizing the properties of ZIF-67 material topology. The core-shell structure design of the modified film layer enables MXene and ZIF-67 to achieve efficient synergy. On the one hand, the unique lamellar structure of MXene is utilized to achieve uniform Mg 2 + flux and reduce the interfacial resistance of the magnesium anode, and on the other hand, the unique ionic conductor performance of ZIF-67 enables precise separation of solvent molecules and simultaneous selective Mg 2+ transport. So, the film is beneficial for interfacial stability and reaction kinetics. The modified Mg battery exhibits a reduction in voltage lag time from 7.2 seconds to 1.3 seconds. A notable reduction in polarity and enhanced stability in plating and stripping was observed in magnesium metal battery for 300 cycles. The DFT calculations show that there is a high adsorption energy between the MXene@ZIF-67 film and the magnesium alloy.

The development of promising boron-based electrolyte for rechargeable magnesium batteries (RMBs) is constrained by high costs and cumbersome synthesis. Herein, an accessible and innovative magnesium phenyl fluoroborate complex electrolyte (MPFBC) has been designed, which employs cheap boron trifluoride as both the boron and fluorine source, utilizing a facile Lewis acid-base reaction for synthesis. The MPFBC electrolyte is capable of stable cycling of Mg||Mg cells at 0.5 mA cm −2 with low overpotential (<100 mV) and maintains a decent discharge specific capacity of 62.6 mAh g −1 after 1000 cycles of the Mg||Mo 6 S 8 battery at 0.5C. Further, the complementary advantages of chemistry and electrochemistry have been highlighted for the first time to harmonizes interface chemistry of Mg anode. A complementation combining the in-situ pre-corrosion driven by chemical process and the Mg 2+ -conducting layer formed through electrochemical process enables controllable interface chemistry and interface evolution. The design and synthesis of MPFBC pave a feasible way for commercialization of boron-based electrolytes, and simultaneously the interface regulation strategy of chemistry-electrochemistry complementary advantages enriches the interface theories of RMBs.
