The pathogenic bacteria induced foodborne disease has been detrimental to public health worldwide. Herein, the peroxidase (POD)-like Fe 3 O 4 /MWCNTs@Mo-CDs (FMMC) nanozyme was applied for the detection of Escherichia coli ( E. coli ). The E. coli aptamer was conjugated with the surface of the FMMC, which effectively enhanced the POD-like activity attributing to the higher affinity to the substrate, and then specific capture of E. coli in food matrices, leading to the reduction of POD-like activity. Therefore, a robust and facile colorimetric aptasensor was developed for detecting E. coli with a wide linear range of 10 1 –10 6 CFU/mL, low LOQ of 10 1 CFU/mL and LOD of 0.978 CFU/mL. The aptasensor demonstrated the satisfied selectivity for E. coli compared to the other strains. This method possessed the potential application for fast in situ screening of foodborne pathogens in food products.

A novel Mo doped reduced graphene oxide/polyimide (Mo-rGO/PI) composite membrane sensor for dopamine (DA) has been successfully prepared by a simple and effective method. In this work, the rGO was doped into PI to prepare polymer composite membrane . Although rGO has a certain degree of catalytic activity for DA, more important is Mo doped rGO/PI film can enhance its electrocatalytic activity towards the oxidation of DA, and so far there is almost no report that MoO 2 can catalyze DA. In order to find the best film, different doped ratios of Mo powder are further investigated, and the combined characterization by X-ray photoelectron spectra and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy indicate that Mo exist in rGO/PI film in the form of MoO 2 . Under optimal conditions, the Mo doped rGO/PI film exhibits excellent catalytic activity to DA, with a linear response throughout the concentration range from 0.1 to 2000 μM, it also shows long-term stability and good reproducibility, and performs well for detection of DA in human blood serums and injection. These results suggest that the novel Mo-rGO/PI film is a promising candidate for the accurate and reliable detection of DA signals in biological samples.

The properties of support have significant effects on the catalytic performance of supported catalysts. The present study involves the synthesis of a series of Mo-modified NbOPO4 supports, which were subsequently utilized for the preparation of supported NiCu bimetallic catalysts via a hydrothermal method. All catalysts were evaluated in the HDO of oleic acid to long-chain alkanes without carbon loss, an essential procedure for contemporary industrial applications. The effects of acidity and porosity on the dispersity and valence states of the metal components were systematically investigated via BET, XRD, SEM, XPS, NH3-TPD, and H2-TPR. Catalytic performance of the materials for HDO of oleic acid was assessed and it revealed that NiCu supported on Mo-modified NbOPO4 exhibited significantly enhanced selectivity for C18 compared to those supported on NbOPO4 (53.10% VS 84.16%) under the mild reaction condition of 250 °C reaction temperature, 3 MPa initial H2 pressure and 7 h reaction time. The resluts demonstrated the significant potential of Mo-modified NbOPO4 as a support for NiCu bimetallic catalysts, enabling efficient conversion of oleic acid into C18 and highlighted the crucial role of support modification in enhancing catalytic performance.

Here, a series of nitrogen-doped carbon (NC) supported transition metal oxide catalysts were prepared by pyrolysis of chitosan-metal salt mixtures for the efficient synthesis 2,5-diformylfuran (DFF) from 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) and fructose. Among them, supported molybdenum-based species on nitrogen-doped carbon (Mo/NC) exhibited excellent activity and selectivity for selective oxidation of HMF to DFF. The presence of nitrogen species reduces the electron cloud density around the Mo species, thereby improving the catalytic activity. Moreover, the interaction between active MoO2 species on the catalyst surface and NC ensured the stability of the catalyst, resulting in no significant loss of activity after four catalytic cycles. 99.5% and 55.1% yields of DFF with full conversion were obtained from HMF and fructose respectively over Mo/NC-chitosan-600 in DMSO under ambient air. In order to enhance DFF yield from fructose, sulfonate groups were introduced into Mo/NC-chitosan-600 catalyst, leading to the highest DFF yield of 70.2%. In addition, this catalyst also allowed 10.0%, 22.9% and 33.3% DFF yields from glucose, sucrose and inulin, respectively.

A chlorine-free catalyst consisting of zeolite Y modified with Pd (Pd/NaY) catalyst has been prepared and used in the indirect oxidative carbonylation of methanol to dimethyl carbonate (DMC). The activity and stability of the catalyst were further improved by introducing molybdenum into Pd/NaY using a top-down approach (Pd-Mo/NaY catalyst). The Pd-Mo/NaY catalyst exhibited higher stability compared to the Pd/NaY. A high CO conversion of 97% and DMC selectivity of 80% during a 30-hour catalytic test for the Pd-Mo/NaY were obtained. Furthermore, the incorporation of Mo was found to partially heal the silanols and hinder the aggregation of Pd in the Pd-Mo/NaY catalyst. The interactions between Mo and Pd increased the amount of active Pd 2+ species and enhanced the adsorption of CO reactant on the Pd-Mo/NaY catalyst. The key reaction intermediate of COOCH 3 * was captured by in situ diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy . The stabilization of active Pd 2+ species contributed to the enhanced catalytic activity of the Pd-Mo/NaY catalyst in the indirect oxidative carbonylation of methanol to DMC reaction.

The cleavage of C-C bonds to generate small molecules is a pivotal strategy for integrating shell bio-refinery products into the conventional chemical industry. Herein, we synthesized a novel bifunctional acetylacetone molybdenum-based catalyst with oxygen vacancies and acid sites (Ov-Mo-acac), which catalyze the retro -aldol reaction of N -acetylglucosamine (NAG), consequently the condensation with acetylacetone and dehydration to co-produce furan and pyrrole compounds. Reaction optimization resulted in a remarkable yield of 95 % for N-acetyl-3-acetyl-2-methyl pyrrole (AMAP) and 74 % for 5-(1,2-dihydroxyethyl)-2-methyl-3-acetylfuran (DMAF) from NAG at 90 ℃ for 3 h. XPS, EPR, and Raman confirmed the reduction of molybdenum from the Mo 6+ to Mo 5+ and Mo 4+ , and oxygen vacancies on the surface. Furthermore, the catalyst has Lewis and Brønsted acidic sites, as evidenced by py-FTIR and 1 H MAS NMR. The study offers a new approach to utilizing shellfishery waste and sheds the function of oxygen vacancies on Mo-based catalysts for the retro -aldol reaction of carbohydrates.

Electrochemical water splitting is considered to be an environmentally friendly and efficient method of hydrogen production. NiFe LDH is a well-known electrocatalyst for oxygen evolution, yet its effectiveness in HER has been suboptimal. In this research, we created a Mo-NiFe LDH@NiS catalyst on carbon cloth via cation doping and heterointerface construction of NiFe LDH. The resulting Mo-NiFe LDH@NiS/CC showed remarkable HER activity. Furthermore, when used as a bifunctional electrode for overall water splitting, Mo-NiFe LDH@NiS/CC operated at a cell voltage of 1.58 V at a current density of 10 mA/cm² and exhibited outstanding durability. This study emphasizes the significant enhancement in HER and overall water-splitting efficiency of NiFe LDH achieved through Mo doping and heterostructure engineering, advancing its potential for effective water splitting applications.

The limited surface reconstruction of NiFe alloy-based catalysts in an anion exchange membrane water electrolysis (AEMWE) restricts the utilization of active sites in the membrane electrode assembly (MEA), hindering further improvements in mass activity and AEMWE performance. Additionally, during MEA preparation using highly active powder-based catalysts, challenges such as contamination and coverage of the active sites may arise, impacting performance. This work presents an in situ anodic oxidation method to selectively leach Mo ions from pre-designed NiFe alloy particles, achieving bulk transformation and forming cation vacancy defects. Results demonstrated that the leaching of Mo ions facilitated the bulk transformation of NiFe to NiFeOxHy with an optimized electronic state, while Mo cation vacancies accelerated the deprotonation of hydroxyl (*OH) species, significantly lowering the free energy barrier required for *OOH formation. The resulting VMo-NiFe catalyst achieved an overpotential of 222 mV during rotating disk electrode (RDE) testing. After rapid in situ activation, the AEMWE equipped with a VMo-NiFe catalyst layer delivered 1.0 A cm−2 at 1.71 V, exhibiting high stability in galvanostatic and fluctuation tests. The in situ bulk transformation method developed in this work effectively enhances MEA performance and reduces the risk of activity loss during MEA preparation.

Chaohu Lake, a vital freshwater resource for surrounding communities, faces environmental stress due to industrial and mining activities, leading to metal contamination. However, the potential ecotoxicological effects of these metals remain unclear. To address this knowledge gap, we analyzed spatial metal distributions in the lake and developed a Drosophila model exposed to region-specific raw water samples. Our results revealed significantly elevated total metal levels in the western region compared to other areas. Male Drosophila exposed to western raw water exhibited >20% reduced climbing ability and reproductive deficits, suggesting metals as likely contributors to these adverse effects. Notably, the primary characteristics of the observed reproductive dysfunction included a >20% reduction in motor activity and a more than twofold increase in brain aging in offspring following paternal exposure to western water. Comparative analysis with China’s surface water standards identified barium (Ba), molybdenum (Mo), and cadmium (Cd) as key metals in the western region. Crucially, paternal exposure to these metals alone recapitulated the offspring’s motor decline and brain aging. We conclude that Ba, Mo, and Cd may be the key metals responsible for Chaohu Lake water-induced paternal motor/reproductive dysfunction and impaired offspring motor performance, with brain senescence potentially mediating the offspring’s motor deficits.

Vinylidene fluoride (VDF) is a fundamental fluorinated olefin in the fluorochemical industry, and innovation in its production holds significant importance for sustainable development. Traditional routes involving the dehydrohalogenation or dehalogenation of halogenated alkanes suffer from issues such as substantial waste emissions and severe equipment corrosion. The one-step catalytic dehydrogenation of 1,1-difluoroethane (HFC-152a) to produce VDF offers notable advantages. To accomplish this goal, this work innovatively aims to construct an oxidative dehydrogenation system with a highly dispersed Mo/Ti catalyst for HFC-152a. Through systematic characterization techniques, such as XPS, XRD, Raman spectroscopy, and TPD, the reaction mechanism is thoroughly investigated. These results prove that more abundant O2– species are related to improved activity, achieving 21.1% VDF selectivity and modest stability for at least 20 h.

The catalytic conversion of concentrated glucose to mannose is of considerable interest due to the latter's therapeutic value, yet it is constrained by low catalytic efficiency. Herein, a Mo/NC-300 catalyst was constructed by introducing active Mo species into a nitrogen-doped carbon (NC) matrix via pyrolysis. The resulting catalyst demonstrated outstanding activity in the epimerization of high-concentration glucose (50 wt%) to mannose, achieving a high yield of 33.4 % and selectivity of 94.6 %, alongside an excellent productivity of 123.7 mmol·g cat −1 ·h −1 . Catalyst characterizations and density functional theory calculations revealed that the NC layer modulates the electronic structure of Mo species, shifting the d-band center upwards. This preferentially enhances glucose adsorption and lowers the epimerization energy barrier. Isotope labeling experiments further confirmed the reaction follows an intramolecular 1,2‑carbon shift mechanism. The catalyst also exhibited excellent stability and reusability, primarily attributed to the hydrophobicity imparted by the NC layer. This work not only provides a catalytic system that simultaneously overcomes the challenges of concentration, stability, and efficiency, but also offers insights into the role of electronic metal-support interaction in glucose epimerization.

The electrolysis of seawater represents a promising route for sustainable hydrogen production, yet it remains severely hindered by chloride-induced corrosion and competing side reactions at the anode. In this study, we develop a robust NiFe layered double hydroxide (LDH) anode modified with molybdate (MoO 4 2− ) via a simple ion intercalation strategy, which significantly enhances both the activity and durability of the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) in alkaline seawater. Systematic experimental and in-situ spectroscopic analyses reveal that intercalated MoO 4 2− induces electron delocalization around Ni/Fe sites, elevating their oxidation states and facilitating a lattice oxygen-mediated reaction pathway. This electronic modulation not only accelerates OER kinetics but also effectively shields active sites from chloride attack. The optimized NiFe LDH-MoO 4 2- electrode achieves outstanding performance with low overpotentials of 252, 284 and 312 mV at current densities of 100, 500 and 1000 mA cm −2 , respectively, and exhibits remarkable long-term stability for 220 h with 93 % retention. When integrated into a two-electrode seawater electrolyzer, the system requires only 1.65, 1.74 and 1.87 V to deliver 0.5, 1.0 and 2.0 A cm −2 , and operates stably over 180 h. This work offers an effective anti-corrosion engineering strategy, paving the way for industrial-scale seawater electrolysis.
