The common detection methods of phoxim mostly rely on the output mode of single signal, which is easily disturbed by complex environmental media and causes errors. Herein, in order to improve the reliability of detection, we developed a dual-mode detection strategy based on nanozyme for the detection of phoxim. Firstly, manganese-nitrogen co-doped carbon nanozyme (Mn@NC) with peroxidase-like activity was synthesized by one-step pyrolysis, which was used to construct in the luminol-H 2 O 2 electrochemiluminescence (ECL) system with molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) technology. Among them, Mn@NC can act as a co-reaction promoter to catalyze H 2 O 2 to produce large amounts of hydroxyl radicals ( • OH), thereby significantly amplifying the cathode signal of luminol and improving the stability of the signal. Benefiting from the specific selection of phoxim by MIP, this molecularly imprinted electrochemiluminescence (MIECL) mode has considerable sensitivity and selectivity, with a low limit of detection (LOD) of 0.011 ng/mL (S/N = 3). Moreover, the • OH produced by Mn@NC-catalyzed H 2 O 2 oxidized the colorless 3,3′,5,5′-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) to blue oxidized TMB (oxTMB). Taking advantage of the fact that the simultaneous presence of acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and acetylthiocholine (ATCh) inhibited the activity of Mn@NC. A sensitive and simple colorimetric pesticide sensing platform was constructed by combining the nanozyme with the TMB-H 2 O 2 system to achieve the colorimetric detection of phoxim, with the LOD as low as 1.27 ng/mL. The dual-mode sensor was successfully applied to the determination of phoxim in agricultural products with satisfactory results, showing its great potential in the monitoring of food hazards.

Lithium-sulfur batteries (LSBs), with their high theoretical energy density and specific capacity, are considered optimal candidates for next-generation energy storage systems. However, significant challenges remain in their cycle life and efficiency for practical applications, primarily due to the shuttle effect of lithium polysulfides (LiPSs) and the poor electrical conductivity of sulfur materials. The key to addressing these challenges lies in designing materials with excellent dispersion, good electrical conductivity, and high catalytic activity. In this work, we have designed and successfully synthesized a unique structural material consisting of in-situ grown cobalt sulfide nanoparticles embedded in zeolite imidazolate frameworks (ZIFs), which are derived from N -doped carbon wrapped around polypyrrole-derived N -doped carbon nanotubes (CoS@NC/NCNT). This design effectively mitigates the shuttle effect of lithium polysulfides (LiPSs) and enhances the conductivity of the material. As a result, batteries with CoS@NC/NCNT-modified separators achieved a high specific discharge capacity of 1518 mAh g −1 at 0.1 C. This work provides a reliable design strategy for synthesizing N -doped carbon nanotube/high-activity transition metal sulfide composite materials and opens new avenues for enhancing the modification and separation of high-performance lithium-sulfur batteries (LSBs).

Iron-nitrogen-carbon (Fe-NC) materials have emerged as leading candidates among non-precious metal catalysts for the oxygen reduction reaction, offering a potential replacement for platinum-group metals in proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs). However, the high intrinsic activity of current Fe-NC catalysts is often accompanied by rapid degradation, primarily due to the prevalence of M-N x active sites embedded within microporous carbon frameworks, which exhibit limited resistance to demetallation. Here, we report the development of mesoporous carbon-dominated Fe-NC (MC-Fe-NC) catalysts featuring atomically dispersed Fe-N 4 active sites (5.62×10 19 sites g −1 ), synthesized via a dual-coordination strategy combined with an assisted in-situ pore-forming approach. Mechanistic investigations reveal that the interconnected mesoporous architecture improves mass transport and water management at the electrode/membrane electrode assembly level, thereby mitigating carbon corrosion and structural degradation during durability testing. MC-Fe-NC demonstrates superior durability under stringent H 2 /air conditions, retaining 82% of initial current density at 0.6 V for 36 h, 92% of initial voltage at 0.2 A cm −2 for 100 h and enduring 30000 square-wave voltage cycles—surpassing the performance of most previously reported Fe-NC systems. Distribution of relaxation time analysis further supports that the mesoporous structure alleviates water flooding and carbon corrosion-related transport deterioration. Density functional theory calculations reveal that the N-enriched local coordination environment downshifts the d -band center, weakens OH-related perturbations, and reduces the driving force for metal dissolution, thereby enhancing the intrinsic anti-dissolution capability of the active sites. These results indicate that the improved durability originates from the synergistic effect of the interconnected mesoporous architecture and the N-enriched local coordination environment. This work offers a rational design pathway for stabilizing single-atom catalytic sites through the optimization of mesoporous structure and local coordination environment, advancing the practical deployment of non-precious metal catalysts in PEMFCs.

Developing novel photocatalysts with an intimate interface and sufficient contact is significant for the separation and migration of photogenerated carriers. In this work, a novel Co@NC/ZnIn2S4 heterojunction with a strong Co–S chemical bond was formed at the interface between Co@NC and ZnIn2S4, which accelerated charge separation. Meanwhile, the recombination of the electron–hole pairs was further restricted by the Co@NC/ZnIn2S4 Schottky junction. The Co@NC (5 wt%)/ZnIn2S4 composite exhibited an H2 evolution rate of 33.3 μmol h−1, which is 6.1 times higher than that of the pristine ZnIn2S4, and Co@NC/ZnIn2S4 showed excellent stability in the photocatalytic water splitting reaction. Its apparent quantum yield reached 38% at 420 nm. Furthermore, the Kelvin probe test results showed that the interfacial electric field formed as the driving force for interface charge transfer was oriented from Co@NC to ZnIn2S4. In addition, the Co–S bond as a high-speed channel facilitated the interfacial electron transfer. This work reveals that in situ formed chemical bonds will pave the way for designing high-efficiency heterojunction photocatalysts.

In this work, a novel electrochemical sensor for Cd(II) detection with differential pulse anodic stripping voltammetry (DPASV) is fabricated based on hollow ZnO@nitrogen-doped carbon (H-ZnO@NC) polyhedra, which are prepared from ZIF-8 via in situ tannic acid etching and a subsequent calcination process. The as-obtained H-ZnO@NC exhibits a polyhedral morphology with a well-defined hollow structure and a uniform distribution of elements C, N, O, and Zn in the shell. The unique structure of H-ZnO@NC can provide an enlarged surface area and abundant active sites. Moreover, ZnO has a strong affinity for heavy metals, which can enhance the adsorption capacity of H-ZnO@NC for Cd(II) in the accumulation step of stripping voltammetry, and thus improve the electrochemical sensing performances. As expected, the H-ZnO@NC-based sensor achieves a wide linear range of 0.3–300 μg L−1, a low detection limit of 0.1 μg L−1 (S/N = 3), and exhibits good selectivity as well as high stability and reproducibility. Moreover, the proposed electrochemical sensor can be applied for the determination of Cd(II) in real water samples, obtaining satisfactory results.

Higher resistance is exceptionally detrimental to metal oxide-based electrochemical sensors' detection performances that depend on their electrical conductivity. Herein, guided by the synergistic effect of the heterophase boundary, a hollow core–shell combination with a double-layered structure was engineered via hydrolysis strategy, namely nitrogen-doped carbon hollow nano-microspheres (N C HNMs) coated with SnO 2 outer layer (N C@SnO 2 HNMs), then applied for high-performance electrochemical sensing. Advantages including large surface area and strong electronic coupling of Sn-C bond on the boundary facilitated the adsorption of target molecules and electron transferring across the composites, achieving efficient quantitative identification. Density functional theory (DFT) calculation demonstrated the motivation of the charge accumulation at the interface due to the formation of the Sn-C bond, which acted as a bridge for charge transfer. Unsurprisingly, the N C@SnO 2 HNMs-based electrode showed an excellent performance toward dopamine (DA), such as favorable DA selectivity, a lower limit of detection, and a wide linear detection range. Moreover, the electrode material could be applied to the microsensor for in-situ DA detection in artificial sweat.

The rational design and assembly specific structures consisting of multiple components with distinctive features are promising strategies for developing advanced materials for efficient sodium storage. Herein, a novel hierarchical sandwich-liked structure MoSe 2 nanosheet array is designed and synthesized, in which MoSe 2 nanosheet through strong interfacial interaction is encapsulated in two dimensional carbon framework that improves electrical conductivity and Na + diffusion kinetic. Moreover, the carbon protective layer reinforces the stability of structure and maintains electrochemical activity during long-term charging/discharging process. The density functional theory calculation (DFT) further confirms carbon incorporation can reduce Na + diffusion energy barrier for enhancing the reaction kinetics. With the obtained NC/MoSe 2 @NC as free-standing electrodes for SIBs, it achieves a reversible capacity of 632 mAh g −1 at 0.2 A g −1 , or actual capacity of 421 mAh g −1 by removing contributed capacity of the carbon cloth substrate, and excellent long cycling stability. By matching with Na 3 V 2 (PO 4 ) 3 /C cathode, the sodium full cell displays a high energy density of 186.2 Wh kg −1 with a power density of 121.2 W kg −1 . This current design and fabrication strategy manifests promising prospect for exploring efficient electrode materials for sodium storage.

The high-cost synthesis of highly dispersed non-noble metal–nitrogen–carbon (MNC) electrocatalysts hinders their practical applications. Here, we have developed a cost/time-efficient synthesis method for MNC electrocatalysts with highly dispersed metal sites, using the commercially available cheap ZnO as the Zn source, reducing the cost of Zn usage by over 80%. Our specially chosen solvent formamide can react with ZnO and allow the formation of nano-sized ZnFeCo–Nx complexes uniformly distributed in the formamide-derived high-N-doped carbon substrate. Further annealing the ZnFeCo–N–C precursor will produce a highly dispersed FeCo–NC target product. Electrochemical measurements show that the prepared FeCo–NC is an excellent electrocatalyst for alkaline oxygen reduction reaction (ORR), rendering superior onset and half-wave potentials of 1.05 and 0.92 V, respectively. The Al–air battery assembled using this also shows a high specific power (204.9 mW cm−2) and a large specific capacity (552 mA h g−1 at 10 mA cm−2), exceeding those of the 20 wt% Pt/C catalyst. Our method may inspire the scalable and low-cost production of highly dispersed MNC electrocatalysts and their wide range of practical applications.

The exploration of cheap, stable, and highly efficient non-precious metal catalyst is conducive to extending the practical applications of zinc-air batteries (ZABs). Herein, a simple, environmental friendly and low-cost method was proposed to fabricate nitrogen-doped carbon–coated TiN nanoparticle composites (TiN@NC). Dicyandiamide was applied as the nitrogen source instead of ammonia reduction, based on which Ti 0.95 Co 0.05 N@NC was synthesized. Oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) measurement shows that the onset potential of Ti 0.95 Co 0.05 N@NC was 30 mV higher compared to TiN@NC, which is attributed: (i) Cobalt was doped into TiN lattice. (ii) After cobalt doping, the graphitization degree of carbon was increased to facilitate electron transport. (iii) Controlling the reservation of nitrogen to form more N-C active sites in Ti 0.95 Co 0.05 N@NC may further promote the performance of ORR. The performance of the ZABs was effectively improved after cobalt doping. It is believed to make it more convenient to prepare binary transition metal nitride nanostructures.

Solid-phase templates are commonly used for building hollow-structured carbon materials (CMs) but often demand post treatments to remove templates. Herein, we develop an efficient and general method to construct hollow carbonaceous structure via the templating of sacrificial carbon nitride (termed as f-NC) without post treatment. The f-NC template can be decomposed under high-temperature annealing, additionally, it can serve as N source to enrich the N content. Applying f-NC template, we manage the synthesis of hollow-structured highly dispersed binary FeCo-nitrogen-carbon material (termed as f-NC@FeCo-NC). Its hollow feature is confirmed by direct observation using HRTEM . Meanwhile, Fe/Co in oxidation states have been verified uniformly distributing in heavily N-doped CMs (N content ∼ 13.2 at.%). The resulted f-NC@FeCo-NC, as examined by electrochemical measurements, exhibits highly efficient performance toward oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) in alkaline medium. It respectively shows much enhanced onset and half-wave potentials of 1.01 and 0.89 V relative to the FeCo-NC that is obtained without f-NC, in contrast, 20 wt% Pt/C shows 0.95 V onset potential and 0.83 V half-wave potential. The f-NC@FeCo-NC catalyst also shows excellent Al-air battery performance when applied as cathode, which possesses a high open circuit voltage of 1.91 V and a high peak power density of 241 mW cm −2 . We believe this sacrificial f-NC can be applied as general template for the fabrication of other hollow-structured carbon-based materials for broad electrochemical applications.

Cathode materials play important roles in the optimization of methane upgrading in microbial electrolysis cell-coupled anaerobic digestion (MEC-AD) systems. In this study, metal organic framework (MOF)-derived carbon-based bimetallic hybrids (Ni/Co-NC) was synthesized as cathode material and its performances and microbial activities were evaluated in MEC-AD. A high methane production rate (0.57 m 3 CH 4 /m 3 ·d) and yield (0.34 m 3 CH 4 /kgCOD) were achieved with a Ni/Co-NC cathode at a potential of 0.6 V. The methane content in the biogas was upgraded to ca. 90%. The enhanced methane production was likely related to the positive surface charge and the good conductive capacity and hydrogen evolution of the Ni/Co-NC cathode, as demonstrated by electrochemical assessment. Additionally, roughness and extensive surface areas provided additional room for cathodic biofilm adhesion via hydrogen bonding and electrostatic interactions. A significant enrichment of Methanobacterium (79.6%) in the MEC-AD-Ni/Co-NC system, especially in the biofilm of the cathode surface, indicated that the methane production pathway shifted from acetoclastic to hydrogenotrophic methanogenesis. Moreover, Methanosaeta harundinacea 6Ac species, which can directly accept electrons, were identified in the MEC-AD systems. These findings revealed that Ni/Co-NC cathode probably enhanced bioelectrochemical reduction of CO 2 to CH 4 by accelerating hydrogenotrophic methanogenesis and direct electron transfer.

Three-dimensional S-CN/NC/CNTs network composites were synthesized via a combined hydrothermal and high-temperature treatment strategy. And their electrochemical behavior as supercapacitor electrodes was investigated. Compared with conventional synthesis routes, this method provides distinct advantages. Cobalt and nickel nanoparticles catalyze the directional growth of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) from melamine, forming a uniform coating structure that significantly enhances the electrical conductivity of the electrode. Concurrently, the sulfidation of cobalt and nickel nanoparticles dispersed within the nitrogen-doped carbon (NC) matrix and CNT network generates abundant redox-active sites, thereby improving the specific capacitance. Within this composite, Co-Ni-S functions as the electrochemically active phase, NC serves as the structural scaffold, and CNTs form an interconnected three-dimensional conductive framework that facilitates efficient electron transport. The synergistic interaction among these components endows the material with superior electrochemical performance. The optimized composite exhibits a high specific capacitance of 2104 F g⁻¹ at 0.5 A g⁻¹ in 6 M KOH electrolyte. Furthermore, a flexible quasi-solid-state supercapacitor assembled using this material as the positive electrode, activated carbon as the negative electrode, and a gel polymer electrolyte achieves an energy density of 40.3 Wh kg⁻¹ at a power density of 750 W kg⁻¹ , maintaining 87.6 % capacitance retention after 5000 cycles at 10 A g⁻¹ with excellent mechanical flexibility. This study presents an effective route for enhancing the electrochemical performance of three-dimensional composite electrodes through hierarchical conductive network design and controlled active-site dispersion, offering valuable insights for the development of high-performance energy storage materials.
