NO is the main precursor of photochemical smog. Since the SCR system of marine diesel engines has many disadvantages, this paper proposes an effective wet method to remove NO from the exhaust gases of marine diesel engines. Experiments were performed in a bubble column reactor to study the absorption of NO using sodium persulfate (Na 2 S 2 O 8 )/urea ((NH 2 ) 2 CO) solutions from a simulated gas stream. The effects of various operating parameters on NO removal were investigated, including reaction temperature, urea concentration, Na 2 S 2 O 8 concentration and the initial pH value of Na 2 S 2 O 8 /urea solutions. The experimental results showed that the NO removal efficiency increased with increasing reaction temperature (25–80 °C) and increasing Na 2 S 2 O 8 concentration (0.01–0.2 mol/L). When the concentration of urea was higher than 0.5 mol/L at 60 °C, 1 mol/L at 70 °C or 2 mol/L at 80 °C, the NO removal efficiency increased with the increase of urea concentration (0.1–4 mol/L). The highest NO removal efficiency was 99.7%, occurring at 80 °C when the concentrations of Na 2 S 2 O 8 and urea were 0.1 mol/L and 4 mol/L, respectively, and the concentration of nitrate was 14.93 mg/L. The optimal urea conditions were well below the legal limit of 60 mg/L. The NO removal efficiency increased with the increase of initial pH value within the herein investigated range of 7–9. All the experimental data showed that the novel system not only achieved effective NO removal efficiency, but also reduced the nitrate in wastewater, which could thus be applied to denitrification of marine engine exhaust gases.

A Michelson interferometric carbon monoxide (CO) fiber-optic sensor based on Co/Ni-MOF-74 is proposed and fabricated. The bimetallic-ion-coordination MOFs material Co/Ni-MOF-74 was prepared by solvothermal method. Through XRD and XPS characterizations, the results show that Co/Ni-MOF-74 and Ni-MOF-74 have the same crystal structure. Co/Ni-MOF-74 has a good adsorption effect on CO, and it is integrated into the optical fiber sensing structure for CO detection. In the CO concentration range of 0–35 ppm, the sensitivity and linearity are 0.022 35 dB/ppm and 0.999 36, respectively. The detection limit of the sensor is about 1.990 46 ppm. The presented fiber-optic sensor has excellent selectivity, resistance to temperature interference and good time stability, and it is expected to be applied to the detection of trace CO.

Radiation ulcers (RUs) represent a devastating and intractable complication arising from radiotherapy, driven by a self-perpetuating pathological cascade featuring persistent oxidative stress, unresolved chronic inflammation, progressive neurovascular destruction, and recurrent bacterial infection, which cannot be sufficiently mitigated by conventional single-target therapeutic interventions. Both electrical stimulation (ES) and nitric oxide (NO) therapy exhibit promising regenerative potential for tissue repair; nevertheless, traditional ES relies on invasive implanted electrodes with unsatisfactory spatial controllability, whereas exogenous NO delivery suffers from insufficient spatiotemporal precision and potential off-target cytotoxicity. Herein, we developed an injectable collagen hydrogel (CKPB) integrating with potassium sodium niobate nanoparticles loaded with an ultrasound-sensitive NO donor. Upon non-invasive ultrasound triggering, this integrated platform achieves wireless generation of localized electric fields as well as spatiotemporally tunable NO release. In a murine RUs model, CKPB/US treatment efficiently facilitated nerve regeneration, M2 macrophage polarization, angiogenesis, antioxidant defense and antibacterial properties. Such multi-faceted therapeutic effects contribute to the recovery of near-physiological epidermal architecture, improved functional blood perfusion, and strengthened overall tissue integrity. Collectively, this work establishes a noninvasive, dual-modality strategy to reconstruct neuro-vascular-immune homeostasis, offering a rational framework for coordinating multimodal signals to target complex pathological microenvironments.

The misuse of antibiotics has resulted in multidrug resistance among bacteria, rendering nearly all conventional antibiotics ineffective and creating a pressing global need for highly efficient and broad-spectrum antibacterial alternatives. Photodynamic antibacterial therapy (PDAT) has emerged as a promising strategy to address bacterial resistance; however, its efficacy is limited by inherent challenges such as poor tissue penetration, short diffusion ranges, and brief half-lives of reactive oxygen species (ROS). In this study, we developed an antibacterial composite nanofiber membrane with red light responsiveness by incorporating functional l-arginine-modified PCN-224 nanoparticles (Arg-PCN NPs), which enabled NO-enhanced synergistic PDAT. Specifically, Arg-PCN NPs were synthesized and subsequently embedded into a polylactic acid (PLA) matrix by electrospinning, yielding a porous nanocomposite membrane (APM). Under irradiation, APM showed a strong synergistic antibacterial effect, and the bactericidal rate against Escherichia coli (E. coli) and Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) reached 99.9%. Comprehensive mechanistic studies revealed that APM potently enhanced bacterial membrane permeability and elevated intracellular ROS levels upon irradiation. Furthermore, cytotoxicity assays confirmed that APM exhibited negligible in vitro cytotoxicity. The red light-activated antibacterial membrane developed in this work holds significant potential for wound care applications and provides a design strategy for advanced antibacterial materials capable of combating drug-resistant bacterial infections.

Amino-density regulation was used to tune the electronic structure of UiO-67. • Diamino ligands induced electron redistribution between Zr nodes and linkers. • UiO-67-2NH 2 showed improved charge separation and interfacial transfer. • NO oxidation was enhanced while NO 2 formation remained at a low level. • Surface NO x intermediates were further converted into nitrate-related species. Functional group engineering of metal-organic frameworks provides a feasible route to tune their electronic structures, yet the specific role of amino ligands in regulating photocatalytic NO oxidation over Zr-based MOFs remains insufficiently clarified. Herein, UiO-67 derivatives with different amino densities were constructed through ligand engineering to investigate the relationship between ligand-induced electronic redistribution and visible-light-driven NO removal. Compared with pristine UiO-67, amino-functionalized UiO-67 exhibited enhanced visible-light absorption, improved charge separation, and reduced interfacial charge-transfer resistance. XPS and band-structure analyses suggest that the introduction of amino groups induces electron redistribution from Zr-oxo nodes toward ligand-related states, resulting in increased electron density near the valence band edge and more favorable photocarrier behavior. Among the prepared samples, UiO-67-2NH 2 showed the highest NO removal efficiency and maintained a relatively low NO 2 release during photocatalytic oxidation. ESR results confirmed the generation of •O 2 − and •OH under visible-light irradiation, while in-situ DRIFTS revealed the formation and evolution of NO + , NO 2 − , and nitrate-related intermediates. These results indicate that photogenerated carriers and reactive oxygen species jointly participate in the stepwise oxidation of NO toward more stable nitrate species. This work provides experimental evidence that amino ligand engineering can remotely modulate the electronic structure of UiO-67 and offers a useful strategy for improving the activity and selectivity of MOF-based photocatalysts for NO removal. In this work, a positively charged chitosan-grafted-polyarginine (CS-N-PArg) as the macro-molecular NO donor, and a negatively charged acetalated starch (AcSt-O-PAsp) as a glucose donor, have been synthesized. To achieve the multi-enzymatic cascade system for local generation of self-supply glucose to increase the H 2 O 2 concentration for the subsequent oxidization of L-Arg into NO, the designed positively charged CS-N-PArg, negatively charged AcSt-O-PAsp, glucoamylase (GA) and glucose oxidase (GOx) are absorbed and assembled in the pore of the gelatin sponge via electrostatic interaction to establish a smart antibacterial dressings (CS/St + GOx/GA). Once stimulated by Escherichia coli ( E. coli )-infected wounds (a slightly acidic environment), the cascade reaction system can sequentially induce to generate glucose, H 2 O 2 and NO, which exhibits a meaningful alternative idea for a high-performance antibacterial therapy.

The naturally evolved and intestinal pathogenic Fusobacterium nucleatum ( Fn )-induced drug resistance profoundly impaired the efficacy of chemotherapy against colorectal cancer (CRC). Alternative treatment modalities against Fn -associated CRC are desperately needed. Herein, we engineer an in situ-activated anti-tumor and antibacterial nanoplatform (Cu 2 O/ [email protected] ) to allow photoacoustic (PA) imaging-guided photothermal and NO gas combinatorial therapy for enhanced Fn -associated CRC treatment. The nanoplatform is constructed by loading cuprous oxide (Cu 2 O) and nitric oxide (NO) donor (BNN6) into dextran-decorated mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSN), which is finally surface-functionalized with dextran via dynamic boronate linkage. Cu 2 O can be sulfuretted in situ by endogenous hydrogen sulfide overexpressed in CRC to produce copper sulfide with remarkable PA and photothermal properties, enabling the generation of NO from BNN6 under 808 nm laser irradiation, which is eventually triggered to release by multiple biological cues in the tumor microenvironment . Cu 2 O/ [email protected] exhibits superior biocompatibility , as well as H 2 S-triggered near-infrared-controlled antibacterial and anti-tumor performance in vitro and in vivo via photothermal and NO gas combination therapy. Furthermore, Cu 2 O/ [email protected] provokes systemic immune responses, thereby promoting anti-tumor efficacy. This study provides a conbinational strategy to effectively inhibit tumors and intratumor pathogens for enhanced CRC treatment.

The electrochemical nitric oxide reduction reaction (NORR) provides a promising pathway for mitigating air pollutant NO while generating valuable ammonia (NH3). However, most research has focused on high NO concentrations (≥10%), which contrast with industrial dilute streams (≤1%), where conventional catalysts, such as single-atom catalysts (SACs), struggle with insufficient active site density and limited *H supply, while nanoparticle catalysts suffer from hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) competition. To address these challenges, we designed a hybrid catalyst consisting of atomically dispersed Co–N4 satellitic sites and Co(111) nanoparticles (Co SA-NPs). Through electronic interaction, Co(111) facilitated enhanced water dissociation to generate *H, while Co–N4 sites strengthened NO adsorption and activation. This cooperative mechanism promoted rapid *H spillover, enabling selective NO hydrogenation to NH3 while suppressing HER. Under 1% NO, Co SA-NPs achieved a significant NH3 yield rate of 11389 μg cm–2 h–1, which is 2.6 to 243.9 times higher than all previously reported NORR catalysts. At industrially relevant and ultralow concentrations (0.05, 0.1, and 0.5%), it maintains a notable average Faradaic efficiency of 93.6% and NH3 yield rates (556, 948, and 3120 μg cm–2 h–1 respectively) among the highest reported under such challenging conditions. Furthermore, the catalyst demonstrated durability with >85 h of stable operation, and a cumulative NH3 production reaching the gram-scale, showcasing its practical potential. Techno-economic analysis (TEA) revealed that NORR with Co SA-NPs could achieve zero-cost NO treatment and even generate profit, compared to traditional NH3–SCR.

In order to enhance the mass transfer efficiency between gas–liquid interfaces, NaClO2mist generated by an ultrasonic humidifier was used to remove NO from simulated flue gas. The effects of some key parameters (the gas flow rate, the NaClO2concentration in the solution, the inlet NO concentration, the NaClO2solution pH) on NO removal efficiency were investigated preliminarily. The results showed that NaClO2mist could oxidize NO with a much higher efficiency compared with other mists containing either NaClO or H2O2as oxidants. With an increase in the gas flow rate from 1.5 to 3.0 L·min−1, the atomizing rate of the NaClO2solution increased almost linearly from 0.38 to 0.85 mL·min−1. When the gas flow rate was 2.0 L·min−1, a complete removal of NO had been reached. NO removal efficiency increased obviously with an increase in the NaClO2concentration in the solution. With an increase in the inlet NO concentration, the ratio of NO in the flue gas and NaClO2in the mist increased almost linearly. Furthermore, the NaClO2mist exhibited a relatively stable and high NOxremoval efficiency in a wide pH range (4–11) of NaClO2solutions. The reason for the high NO removal efficiency was mainly ascribed to both the strong oxidative ability of NaClO2and the improved mass transfer at the gas-liquid interface.

Photocatalytic coating has been widely studied as a promising material to remove air pollutants. However, the effectiveness and long-term effect of photocatalysis in high relative humidity environment is still the main challenge in this field. In this study, a fluorinated WO 3 -TiO 2 nanorods/SiO 2 epoxy photocatalytic superamphiphobic coating (FTSE coating) was prepared using a simple spraying method. The micromorphology and chemical composition of FTSE coating was characterized by SEM , EDS, FT-IR, XPS and TGA techniques. The advanced contact angle and hysteresis angle test show that the FTSE coating had excellent superamphiphobicity. The mechanical abrasions , corrosion resistance and UV aging tests show that the FTSE coating exhibited reasonable durability. Besides, the NO degradation efficiency of hydrophilic and superamphiphobic coatings with contact angles of 20.19°, 87.74°, 162.93° and 164.47° was tested in different humidity environment. The results showed that the superamphiphobic coating exhibited more superior photocatalytic degradation efficiency (84.02%) than the hydrophilic coating (51.38%) at a high relative humidity (RH=98%). Finally, FTSE coating exhibited prominent photocatalytic stability and the synergistic effect of photocatalysis and self-cleaning. After 30 d outdoor weathering test, the NO degradation efficiency decreased by 13.07% and recovered to the original level after flushing. The improvement mechanism of NO degradation performance was proposed based on the characteristics of superamphiphobic surface.

Detecting some appropriate target gases through the optimization of material structure is still applicable to some old sensing materials. In this work, we showed that hollow tin oxide (SnO 2 ) nanotubes (NTs) exhibited a remarkable sensing performance for nitric oxide (NO) at 160 °C. The sensing materials were prepared by direct annealing of electrospun precursor nanofibers , and hollow NTs can be obtained at an appropriate heating rate of 6 °C/min. Given the large surface area of hollow SnO 2 NTs, their sensing performance is better than that of solid SnO 2 NTs. The response of hollow SnO 2 NTs is approximately 33.3 upon exposure to 500 ppb of NO at 160 °C. The hollow SnO 2 NTs also exhibit good repeatability, long-term stability, and excellent selectivity . These remarkable sensing properties indicate that conventional SnO 2 still has great practical applications because of the fine design of the material structure and proper control of working conditions.

Low-temperature electrocatalytic reduction of nitric oxide (NORR) is promising for the low-cost, high-efficiency removal and utilization of nitric oxide (NO), which couples the two crucial industrial processes of denitration and synthetic ammonia. We reported a binary catalyst of Cu/P–TiO 2 for NORR process, which took advantages of the Cu electrocatalysts and porous TiO 2 . The increase of surface areas and channels can improve the adsorption of NO molecules. The decoration of the ultrafine Cu nanoparticles on the porous TiO 2 may prevent the agglomeration of ultrafine Cu nanoparticles. The as-prepared Cu/P–TiO 2 electrode exhibits excellent electrocatalytic activity with a Faraday efficiency of 86.49% and NH 3 yield of 3520.80 μg·h −1 ·mg −1 in 0.1 M K 2 SO 4 at −0.3 V vs. RHE. The mechanism of the NORR reaction process with Cu/P–TiO2 catalysts was also discussed. This research may broaden the application areas of TiO 2 -based materials in the electrocatalysis and provide a new sight in the treatment of NO pollutants.
