In order to reduce the loss of particles during the cycling operation, a technology for the granulation of short channel SBA-15 adsorbent was developed. The adsorption behavior of obtained granules was studied under various factors including initial pH value, contact time in different initial concentration and acid stability by batch experiments. A continuous packed column loaded with granules was performed to remove U(VI) from aqueous solution. The uranium concentration was highly enriched than feed solution. The granules packed in column exhibited excellent reusability through cycling test. The result showed promising application prospect in the uranium extraction from aqueous solution.

Furfural, a promising biobased platform chemical, can be derived from xylan through an acid-catalyzed dehydration process. However, the yield of furfural in the aqueous phase is often limited by side reactions (furfural degradation). Employing a biphasic solvent system for in situ furfural extraction presents a strategy to mitigate furfural degradation as furfural is more stable in some organic phases, reducing the polymerization with reaction intermediates in the aqueous phase. In this study, a novel energy-efficient process was developed for the enhanced production of furfural from corncob xylan in a biphasic solvent system. A series of niobium-modified SBA-15 solid acid catalysts for furfural production were synthesized and characterized to determine the physical properties, structure, and crystallinity. The toluene/H2O biphasic system was selected to intensify the furfural production and reduce subsequent separation costs. The experimental parameters including niobium doping of catalyst, reaction time, reaction temperature, catalyst input, and xylan input were optimized to obtain high furfural yield. The process model for production and purification of furfural was established based on experimental data, and the results demonstrated that the furfural purification section in the proposed process reduced cold energy consumption by 64.08% and heat energy consumption by 70.29% compared to the conventional process.

Periodontitis is a progressive infectious inflammatory disease, which leads to alveolar bone resorption and loss of periodontal attachment. It is imperative for us to develop a therapeutic scaffold to repair the alveolar bone defect of periodontitis. In this study, we designed a new composite scaffold loading metformin (MET) by using the freeze-drying method, which was composed of β-tricalcium phosphate (β-TCP), chitosan (CTS) and the mesoporous silica (SBA-15). The scaffolds were expected to combine the excellent biocompatibility of CTS, the good bioactivity of β-TCP, and the anti-inflammatory properties of MET. The MET-loaded β-TCP/CTS/SBA-15 scaffolds showed improved cell adhesion, appropriate porosity and good biocompatibility in vitro. This MET composite scaffold was implanted in the alveolar bone defects area of rats with periodontitis. After 12 weeks, Micro-CT and histological analysis were performed to evaluate different degrees of healing and mineralization. Results showed that the MET-loaded β-TCP/CTS/SBA-15 scaffolds promoted alveolar bone regeneration in a rat model of periodontitis. To our knowledge, this is the first report that MET-loaded β-TCP/CTS/SBA-15 scaffolds have a positive effect on alveolar bone regeneration in periodontitis. Our findings might provide a new and promising strategy for repairing alveolar bone defects under the condition of periodontitis.

Background CO 2 methanation plays a critical role in reducing carbon emissions. The development of Ni-based catalysts with simple synthesis processes and low costs for low-temperature methanation demonstrates promising industrial application prospects, yet it also faces significant challenges. Ni-based catalysts generally require higher metal loadings, which in turn makes it difficult to achieve high metal dispersion, severely limiting their low-temperature catalytic activity. Methods In this study, a simple co-impregnation method was employed in combination with a dual-strategy approach: hydrogen peroxide pretreatment to increase the concentration of silanol groups on the SBA-15 silica support surface and the assistance of ethylene glycol (EG) during the impregnation process. Significant findings The significant finding of this work lies in the demonstrated synergy of a dual strategies to stabilize highly dispersed Ni catalysts for CO 2 methanation. While high dispersion and good low-temperature activity have been reported elsewhere, this study specifically shows that combining (1) ethylene glycol-assisted impregnation to improve initial dispersion with (2) the utilization of SBA-15 silanol groups as anchoring sites effectively mitigates sintering. This combined approach resulted in a catalyst achieving 77% CO 2 conversion and 100% CH 4 selectivity at 250 °C, with characterization confirming the enhanced stability afforded by the synergy.

In this paper, methacrylic-group-modified ZnO nanoparticles (designated ZnO-MAA) are prepared through the sol–gel reaction between zinc methacrylate and LiOH, which is then functionalized with 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) to form the ZnO-MAA-PHEMA hybrid system after addition polymerization reaction. Then ZnO-MAA-PHEMA unit is modified with 3-(triethoxysilyl)-propyl isocyanate (TEPIC) through the addition reaction and subsequently to achieve the functionalized SBA-15 mesoporous hybrids (ZnO-MAA-PHEMA-SBA-15) by co-condensation of tetraethoxysilane (TEOS) and modified polymer ligand (HEMASi) in the presence of Pluronic P123 surfactant as template. Finally, lanthanide (Eu3+, Tb3+, Nd3+) complex systems with β-diketonates (2-thenoyltrifluoroacetonate (TTA), 1,3-diphenyl-1,3-propanedionate (DBM), 4,4,4-trifluoro-1-phenyl-1,3-butanedionate (BTA) and nicotinate (NTA)) are introduced to obtain multicomponent organic–inorganic hybrid materials through the coordination bonds between the lanthanide ion and the carbonyl group of ZnO-MAA-PHEMA-SBA-15. The detailed physical characterization and especially the photoluminescence of these hybrid materials are studied in detail. The results provide a strategy to assemble luminescent lanthanide hybrids with multicomponent units such as semiconductors, polymers and mesoporous silica and lanthanide complexes.

Encapsulating the USY zeolite within a mesoporous SBA-15 shell is a promising strategy to construct hierarchical catalysts with regulated acidity. However, the acidic conditions required for SBA-15 synthesis pose a stability challenge to the acid-sensitive USY core. In this work, we first systematically investigated the physicochemical evolution of USY under simulated SBA-15 synthesis conditions by varying the acid concentration, temperature, and treatment time. Through XRD, N2 physisorption, NH3-TPD, and Py-FTIR analysis, the optimal conditions for USY to retain its framework integrity and Brønsted acidity were determined to be ≤1.0 M HCl and treatment time ≤24 h. This acid-tailored optimization is essential for the subsequent fabrication of the core–shell structure. Guided by these findings, the Ni–Mo/USY@SBA-15 core–shell catalyst is successfully prepared and evaluated in naphthalene hydrocracking, achieving 97.8% conversion and 51.6% BTX selectivity, outperforming conventional Ni–Mo/USY (92.6% conversion and 26.0% BTX selectivity). XPS analysis provides direct evidence of the spatially regulated metal-acid distribution and enhanced electron density on active sites. The performance enhancement is attributed to the hierarchical pore structure and the spatially regulated metal-acid distribution, which together enhance mass transfer, optimize acid site accessibility, and suppress overcracking. This study provides an acid-tolerance-guided synthesis strategy for designing high-performance core–shell zeolite catalysts.

The development of composite materials with functional additives proved to be an effective way to improve or supplement the required properties of polymers. Herein, mesoporous silica (SBA-15) with different pore sizes were used as functional additives to prepare SBA-15/PF (phenolic resin) nanocomposites, which were prepared by in situ polymerization and then, compression molding. The physical properties and structural parameters of SBA-15 with different pore sizes were characterized by N2adsorption–desorption, X-ray diffraction (XRD), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The thermal properties of the SBA-15/PF hybrid were investigated by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA). The mechanical, friction, and dynamic mechanical properties of SBA-15/PF nanocomposites were also studied. The results revealed that the pore sizes of SBA-15 have a significant effect on the resulting SBA-15/PF hybrid and SBA-15/PF nanocomposites. The thermal stability of the SBA-15/PF hybrid was dramatically improved in comparison with pure PF. The friction and dynamic mechanical properties of the SBA-15/PF nanocomposites were enhanced significantly. Specifically, the glass transition temperature (Tg) of the nanocomposite increased by 19.0 °C for the SBA-15/PF nanocomposites modified with SBA-15-3. In addition, the nanocomposite exhibited a more stable friction coefficient and a lower wear rate at a high temperature. The enhancement in thermal and frictional properties for the nanocomposites is ascribed to the confinement of the PF chains or chain segments in the mesopores channels.Keywords:SBA-15/PF;nanocomposites;pore expanding;thermal properties;frictional properties

Background The design and synthesis of catalysts with high stability, activity and selectivity in Fischer–Tropsch synthesis (FTS) have been attracting extensive research attention. Maintaining high catalytic stability and activity is the best strategy for improving the catalyst efficiency and economic benefits. Methods In this study, graphitic carbon nitride (g-C 3 N 4 )-coated SBA-15 was utilised as a support material to prepare cobalt-based FTS catalysts. The catalysts coated with g-C 3 N 4 were studied via TEM, XPS, XRD, H 2 -TPR, TG, N 2 adsorption–desorption, and tested in a fixed-bed reactor. Significant findings The catalysts coated with g-C 3 N 4 were considerably more stable than the Co/SBA-15 catalyst without g-C 3 N 4 coating during a 100 h test period. Furthermore, the CO-conversion performance of the Co/SBA-15 catalyst decreased continuously. Notably, the activity of the Co/ [email protected] 3 N 4 catalyst with a low g-C 3 N 4 loading was higher than that of the Co/SBA-15@1C 3 N 4 catalyst with a relatively high g-C 3 N 4 loading. g-C 3 N 4 can significantly strengthen the interaction between the cobalt species and the support, thereby increasing the catalyst stability. Therefore, a highly stable catalyst with good activity can be achieved by employing a small amount of g-C 3 N 4 for surface modification. The results highlight the effectiveness of the proposed strategy for preparing highly stable, cobalt-based catalysts with good activity.

Furfural (FFR) is one of the most important biomass-derived chemicals. Its large-scale availability calls for the exploration of new transformation methods for further valorization. Herein, we demonstrate that Ru nanoparticles (Ru NPs)-supported on a sulfonated carbon layer coated SBA-15 can be employed as an efficient bi-functional catalyst for one step conversion of FFR into 1,4-pentanediol (1,4-PeDO). The optimum bi-functional catalyst can afford the full the conversion of FFR and 86% selectivity to 1,4-PeDO. The catalysts have been characterized thoroughly by using a complementary combination of powder X-ray diffraction, N 2 adsorption–desorption, scanning/transmission electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, elemental analysis, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The characterization revealed that acidic groups (–SO 3 H) have been introduced on the surface of the carbon layer coated SBA-15 support after sulfonation with 98% H 2 SO 4 and the surface acidity can be tuned facilely by the sulfonating time. Meantime, Ru(0) sites was highly dispersed via an impregnation and sequential reduction and directly adjacent to the surface –SO 3 H group. There existed an electronic interaction between Ru(0) sites and sulfonic groups, in which the electronic transfer from sulfonic sites to Ru(0) sites occurred. Brönsted acid sites (–SO 3 H) have a significant influence on the FFR conversion and the selectivity to 1,4-PeDO. The ordered mesoporous structure, the appropriate density of acid sites and the electron-rich Ru(0) sites accounted for the the excellent performance of the catalyst for an efficient production of 1,4-PeDO from FFR. A facile and environmentally friendly method to synthesize efficient catalysts for activating peroxymonosulfate (PMS) to degrade contaminants is highly important yet remains challenging. By combining the superiorities of ordered Co/N@ZS and alginate hydrogels, namely regular and stable channels, large specific surface area, outstanding hydrophilicity and unique three-dimensional structure, an excellent recovery and recyclability catalyst, Co 0·6 /N@ZS-SA, exhibited outstanding performance in activating 0.50 g/L PMS for ciprofloxacin degradation (20 mg/L) with a high degradation rate of 82.52%. The effect of diversified influencing parameters, stability and recyclability on the degradation efficiency was systematically investigated. More importantly, the composite hydrogel with excellent recovery and recyclability could still degrade more than 63.4% CIP after three consecutive reactions. In addition, combined EPR analysis and ROS quenching research indicated that HO • , SO 4 •− , O 2 •− and 1 O 2 were generated but CIP degradation dominated by the radical mechanism comprising the yield of SO 4 •− . Besides, the intermediate products were identified by LC-MS analyses to propose the possible degradation pathways.

Reported herein is an easy-to-prepare novel heterogeneous catalyst of platinum complexes bearing binary ligands of bidentate naphthalenolimine and cyclo-1,5-octadiene that are anchored onto mesoporous silica SBA-15. The presence of the binary ligands not only stabilized the platinum, but also enabled the platinum atoms to form nanoclusters with diameters of ca 1 nm, and led to high platinum loading (8.69 wt%). Moreover, the platinum catalyst exhibited high catalytic activity towards hydrosilylation of terminal alkenes and styrene with silanes under mild and solvent-free conditions, with excellent regioselectivity.

In this work, amino-functionalized Santa Barbara Amorphous-15/calcium alginate (ASBA-15@CA) microspheres were fabricated and characterized by FTIR, SEM, XRD, TGA , and XPS analyses. The Pb(II) adsorption properties of the ASBA-15@CA microspheres were studied in terms of the effects of the adsorption time, adsorbent dose, solution pH, temperature, and initial concentration of Pb(II) on the adsorption capacity. At pH 6 and 298 K, the adsorption reached equilibrium after 100 min and the sample exhibited a good adsorption effect, affording a maximum adsorption capacity of 1029.58 mg/g and a removal rate as high as 98.99%. The adsorption process conformed to the Langmuir model ( R 2 = 0.9937) and followed the pseudo-second-order kinetics model ( R 2 = 0.9995). Regeneration experiments showed that the removal rate of the sample reached 75% even after 6 cycles. Overall, this study provides new insights into the development of novel, highly efficient, and repeatable degradation materials for the removal of Pb(II).
